Alice awakens in a cursed manor where any of her wishes can come true, but she tasks herself with escaping back to civilization. We follow her from room to room, bearing witness to several humans that have given into their desires, descending into madness and ultimately losing what humanity they once had. These people embody escapism, and demonstrate the dangers of such a thing in a majorly exaggerated way. In the midst of this, Alice is not safe from harm either; her body is being progressively decayed by the poison of desire to escape from a system in which she is doomed to fail in. The build-up leading to her escape is executed well, and what comes after makes for a well-written twist.
The artwork here is astounding, with lots of diversity ranging from beautiful atmospheric panels to vividly detailed, and quite frankly, horrifying panels. Either way, every double spread page in this manga boasts impressive art.

Realmente me ha sorprendido esta historia.
La historia es una belleza visual de principio a fin dónde la existencia de criaturas, demonios, habitaciones y transformaciones es cada vez más atrapante. Se va tejiendo poco a poco, entregándonos el rumbo de la incertidumbre inicial que de igual forma atrapa.
Una joven llamada Alicia despierta en la habitación 431 de la cual le dicen que estará eternamente, pero ella quiere ir al exterior y le advierten que no puede salir y si lo intenta se irá pudriendo, pero ella decide arriesgarse de igual forma, comenzando así una travesía fantástica muy oscura.
Lo que más destacaría es el body horror que me ha dejado wooow y unos paneles fascinantes con un nivel de detalles hermosos.

Me desvelé leyendo esta historia por que se lee bastante rápido y fluido y quieres saber que esta pasando y como cada habitación está llena de monstruos y abominaciones. Cuando de la nada el autor le da un giro para explicar el origen de todo y se mete con demonologia y destrucción que mi cabeza explotó.
Aunque el final no me lo esperaba, me dejó con muchos cabos sueltos la historia. Aún así la disfrute bastante y tiene ese toque eroguro que me agrada.

a short manga (12 chapters) that i feel you can get multiple things out of. however, for me, it’s a powerful allegory for the way, often in times of crisis and moments when we need to be more “awake” than ever, we get filled with ‘escapism’ propaganda to keep us passive. and i don’t mean this in the weird right wing soy conspiracy theory way. if minority groups stay quiet and can’t confirm their realities then of course it’s gonna be easy for the opposite to rot the world. there’s also some more on technology and the power of knowledge because as i said, i think you can get multiple things out of it. all in all, it’s pretty great with beautiful art and an ending that is subtly haunting.

الببليومانيا (Bibliomania) هي الهوس الشديد بجمع الكتب، وأحيانًا إلى حد الهوس المرضي. لا يقتصر الأمر على حب القراءة فقط، بل قد يكون الدافع وراءه هو امتلاك الكتب النادرة أو الجميلة أو مجرد جمعها بكميات كبيرة دون بالضرورة قراءتها. عبر التاريخ، كان هناك بعض الشخصيات المعروفة بالببليومانيا، مثل السير توماس فيليبس، الذي جمع مكتبة ضخمة بشكل مبالغ فيه.
تبدو الرواية بأسلوب يشبه المانغا اليابانية، لكنها في الواقع رواية مصورة فرنسية، وليست يابانية.
أسلوب الرسم والتنسيق ربما يجعلانها تبدو كعمل ياباني، لكن الكاتب أورفال (Orval) والناشر مانغيتسو (Mangetsu) كلاهما فرنسيان.

I think it's safe to say that the pursuit of knowledge is a nobel goal, as a civilization and as an individual. Most scientists and scholars would agree, but the best among them like Einstein, Tesla had their doubts, because they know what could be possible in the future if technological advancements prosper in the wrong hands.
Bibliomania is a short manga about a little girl who ends up in a manor whose host is a snake. No one's intentions are as they seem, especially the little girl because she wants to leave the manor now that she is inside. Even though inside your room in the manor, everything you ever wish for comes true.
But the girl just wants to leave-that is her desire- and to do so, she must go through all the rooms in the manor towards room 000...from her room, 431. The other catch is that her body will rot more and more as she's further from her own room.
This does not deter the girl because she marches onwards through all the rooms, each housing a different individual with a different desire.
The Art style is just *chefs kiss* It's unique; impeccable linework; expressive both when the art style goes maximalist as well as subdued and minimal and this mangaka KNOWs how to paint a character in a certain light.
The mangaka can paint a character to look tragic, beautiful, disgusting, sympathetic, terrifying, and sometimes, all at the same time. Most of the scenes hit this mark, showing the dark sides of common human desires and regrets.
The mystery throughout the easy-going pace of 12 chapters is engaging and impenetrable at first, with just the right amount of mystique especially in all the scenes showing how the girl got to the mansion in the first place, and then, the walls guarding the truth crumbles at a really nice pace and the whole smick doesn't come to you before the conclusive final chapter.
I think that's where my only major complain lies, by the end of the story, you realise how the puzzle pieces fit but it can be slightly underwhelming I won't go too into it, but that's just how I feel.
There's much more I wanna say but I really don't wanna spoil anything, so if you got an afternoon, you should knock this one out, it's pretty good.

Libro preciosista, con body horror y algunas viñetas increíblemente bellas. La historia no es alucinante pero encaja con el estilo, creando una historia interesante y bella a partes iguales.

En ocasiones, las obras toman una historia como excusa para desnudar y criticar el mundo real. Por supuesto que mientras más tiempo nos detengamos detallar y describir, más fácil le será al lector identificarse con elementos de la realidad. Pero no siempre es necesario un exceso de realismo. En ocasiones, solo se necesita la viñieta de un manga fantasioso.
Alicia podría tener todo lo deseé en su mundo ficticio, excepto una cosa: el mundo real. Para una amante de la verdad, vivir una mentira es imposible, y por eso quiere escapar.
En cada una de estas habitaciones hay otras personas que también fueron encerradas y que viven sus propias fantasías, evadiendo o luchando contra la verdad.
Curiosamente, las dos puertas iniciales son las que más impactan, demostrando que por más infantil que haya parecido el diseño de la protagonista y la serpiente, el abordaje a los temas que toca serán duros. Temas como el bullying, la guerra, la enfermedad, la presión, e incluso la evasión del tiempo. Cada una de las personas que están encerradas ahí optaron por desear una vida distinta a la que llevaban afuera, y a la vez, todos están aferrados a los malos momentos del pasado ¿Acaso se le puede llamar a eso "vivir"?
Los flashbacks están muy bien ubicados, y generan más curiosidad acerca del porqué Alicia quiere volver a un mundo que se encuentra en ruinas ¿Es ese amor por la verdad el único motor de la niña?
El dibujo es espectacular, una sensación gráfica que se vive a detalle a cada vuelta de página. Los detalles son precisos, y demuestra el estado mental y emocional de cada uno de los personajes secundarios.
Y llegando al final, debo admitir que es mucho más fantasioso y complejo de lo que me esperaba, y a la vez tan humano, que retrata los dos matices opuestos de un mismo color.

El nivel de todo lo vinculado a lo gráfico en esta historia es HERMOSO.
Es interesante el tema del ansia de conocimiento y los submundos dónde hay personas atrapadas que no quieren abandonarlo porque por fin están viviendo su sueño o por fin logran ser felices.
Pero todo eso no me basta para sentirme deslumbrada porque algo que crítico en todas las historias es cuándo las protagonistas pasan todas las pruebas cómo si nada y salen victoriosas.
Comienzan los comentarios de lo que no me gustó con spoilers
Alicia, la protagonista, pasa por 340 habitaciones tan rápido que se siente cómo si fuese corriendo, además se suma el pequeño detalle de que avanza sin ningún tipo de dificultad y sin tener algún tipo de daño o secuela.
Debo confesar que estoy un poco agotada de este tipo de protagonistas que son perfectos en todos los aspectos, sin importar si son buenos, malos, mujer, hombre, etc. Siento que se subestima a los lectores con este tipo de contenido.
Y el final también es bastante simple, todo se resume a que Alicia resultó ser una niña enferma, no solo en el sentido médico, sino que también estaba enferma por conocer, por saber, explorar todo lo que no podía a causa de las limitantes de su cuerpo enfermo. Por lo cuál creó un libro que albergara tanto conocimiento que le permitiera obtener la libertad que siempre soñó. El punto es que Alicia se transforma en un monstruo que quiere cada vez más y más conocimiento y poder.
Por lo cuál, en su avaricia por más conocimiento y poder termina por acabar con la humanidad quedando completamente sola al punto de absorber a otros libros que buscaban imitar el suyo propio.

Wow, this was amazing. It has been a long time since I read a manga that I couldn't stop reading. The art is beautiful and the story is so interesting and intriguing. Completely recommend!

It was worth it though... it's one of those stories which reveal new things as you read it again and again

Estuve todo el rato pensando en Alice Human Sacrifice (vocaloid) Ademas que la prota me daba todas las vibras de Kagamine Rin. Pero bueno, estar en la pasta del anime/manga/vocaloid desde chica, algún daño te deja en el cerebro JAJAJA
Mezcla muy bien el hacer uso del arte sencillo y el complejo, un storytelling muy trepidante, así que se lee muy rápido. Tampoco debes esperar tanto de la trama ni buscarle la quinta pata al gato.

Je préfère la couverture en noir et blanc avec le visage d’Alice, le choix de l’édition française est moins frappant à mon goût c’est dommage !
Sinon j’ai beaucoup aimé suivre cette aventure horrifique, des moments vraiment superbe en terme de dessin (même si horrible en réalité), j’aime aussi beaucoup le contraste de la mignonne petite Alice qui parcoure cet univers ignoble.
Avertissement de contenu : body horror (corps déformés de façon horrible)

Story ist sehr interessant, aber irgendwas fehlt mir. Mit Fortgang der Geschichte wird es immer verrückter, was grundsätzlich gut ist. Auch gut finde ich, dass es ein One-Shot ist. Es braucht nicht immer 30 Bände für eine gelungene Story. Dennoch, ein bisschen mehr in die Länge ziehen könnte man es schon. Mein Fazit: Bibliomania ist ein kurzweiliges Kunstwerk, das es zu lesen und vor allem zu betrachten lohnt.

Una interesante alegoría del ansía de conocimiento y la verdad.
Supongo que está basado en parte en Alicia en el país de las maravillas, aunque también me recuerda al mito de la caja de Pandora.
Ha sido entretenido, pero puede que esperase un poco más del final (se viene spoiler), o tal vez se me ha hecho muy fácil llegar a la habitación 000, idk. Eso sí, el arte es muy bonito y evidentemente perturbador, I like it.

Me ha encantado. Un dibujo flipante y una historia que engancha mucho y con unos giros muy buenos.
Estoy segura de que la premisa se podría extender durante varios tomos pero la decisión de hacerla como es en una historia corta es también muy buena.
Me encanta cómo ha acabado, si vais a leer este manga hacedlo del tirón, sin duda.

Aquest manga té un estil de dibuix peculiar, no puc dir que sigui detallat però sí carregat. És un estil que casa molt amb l'horror que vol transmetre el manga. Però, bé, jo no sé de dibuix així que passem a la part de la qual puc parlar.
La història té una premissa interessant i una coberta que et dona ja expectatives de trobar un manga ple d'horror. Per desgràcia, no acaba de ser així. Potser perquè és un volum únic sento que no acaba de desenvolupar bé l'horror que hauria de transmetre. A cada habitació veiem un aspecte de l'ésser humà, un desig. Veiem la justícia, l'heroicitat, la família, la bellesa; totes les virtuts per amagar una realitat: que cap d'aquelles habitacions és real i res del que passa ho és. L'autoengany de les persones per alternar la realitat o per allunyar-se d'ella. I és que aquest és un tema bastant amanit en la literatura i, potser per això, se m'ha fet més superficial en aquesta història.
El gir de guió, si t'agrada endevinar-los, molt possiblement sigui previsible (jo visc a la Lluna de València i mai m'entero fins que passa), espero equivocar-me perquè és la gràcia del manga.
M'he debatut entre les 3 o 4 estrelles, al final m'he quedat en 4 perquè a mi m'ha tingut atrapada tota la mitja hora que he estat llegint. Però podria haver sigut 3 estrelles perfectament.
Aquest manga té un estil de dibuix peculiar, no puc dir que sigui detallat però sí carregat. És un estil que casa molt amb l'horror que vol transmetre el manga. Però, bé, jo no sé de dibuix així que passem a la part de la qual puc parlar.
La història té una premissa interessant i una coberta que et dona ja expectatives de trobar un manga ple d'horror. Per desgràcia, no acaba de ser així. Okuduğum mangalarda hep bir climax sorunu oluyor çıldırıcam şimdi. Sırf ismi için okudum ve işleyiş tarzı da çok hoşuma gitti ama asla tam bir statement vermiyor gibiydi bazen yarım kalıyormuş gibi hissediyorum. Artwork harika bu arada.

Um livro surpreendente, a nível narrativo e essencialmente estético. Uma rapariga dá por si num quarto de uma estranha mansão. Dentro desse quarto, diz-lhe o anfitrião, todos os seus desejos serão satisfeitos. E haverá uma grande festa, quando o número de habitantes da mansão chegar a 666. Nenhum pode sair, e sempre que chega um novo, é criado um novo quarto. Mas a rapariga não está pelos ajustes, e exige saber como sair da mansão. Há uma forma, requer chegar ao quarto 000, o índice da mansão. Mas nunca ninguém lá conseguiu chegar. A casa tem um sistema, quem sair do seu quarto, é penalizado com o apodrecimento progressivo do seu corpo.
Mas a rapariga não está mesmo pelos ajustes, e sai, em busca do mítico quarto 000. Para isso, tem de atravessar os restantes quartos da mansão, cruzando-se com as mais sublimes, bizarras, elegantes, ou humildes obsessões dos seus habitantes. Sempre acompanhada pelo anfitrião que, sibilino, lhe sussurra que jamais conseguirá chegar à saída, cairá de podre antes de o conseguir. Mas o impensável acontece, e com isso uma nova e ainda mais bizarra revelação. Ao morrer, a rapariga renasce, e revela o seu segredo. Ela, tal como o anfitrião da mansão, são encarnações bibliófilas. Um pesadelo gerado do amor de uma menina doente pelos livros, cuja obsessão benigna gerou um super-livro que, por curiosidade, devorou a humanidade após uma guerra. O anfitrião é um desses livros, e sonha com o momento em que as suas páginas ficarão completas para, finalmente, tocar o mundo real. Mas quando o consegue, descobre que a jovem que se escapou dos seus quartos é ela própria um livro ainda maior, que já incorporou toda a humanidade, e agora incorporará mais este livro errante.
Confusos? É normal. Bibliomania foi das leituras mais estranhas e bizarras que li, ultimamente. É sublimemente surreal, com a sua história que parece começar como uma banal antologia de terror, mas depressa evolui para direções de um perfeito absurdismo decadente. A ilustração acompanha o tom, saltita entre puro realismo, estilismo quase cartoon, e surrealismo expressionista. Visualmente deslumbrante, com uma história que faria inveja aos velhos surrealistas e dadaístas. Um daqueles livros que nos obriga a abandonar a lógica ao longo da sua leitura, e é tão mais delicioso por isso.

American McGee’s Infinity Train on HBO Max. The watercolor tones made this feel kind of like early 2000’s western comics in my mind, a la Fables or Sandman. My favorite part was the mystical organic earth weaponry.

Bibliomania is definitely a better than average manga. Though a bit of a fast read, the imagery and the surprising transformation of Alice was definitely entertaining. Seeing each room and the deeper meanings in this manga really made me reflect on the concept of time vs misery. Seeing how each of the characters tried to escape the wrong in their life before the manor by creating their own utopia of happiness was something that touched me on a personal level. Especially when I am learning to become one more part of the physical world.
This manga is definitely worth checking out. I'm happy it was my first finished book of 2022 :)

Leí este manga porque era una de las opciones en el especial de intercambio ruleta de mangas en el server de Discord en el que estoy. La verdad que arranqué esta historia sin saber qué esperar, por lo que los 3 primeros capítulos literalmente me tuvieron 🧍♀️ de los nervios porque el dibujo ?????? una locura absoluta, y el misterio y la intriga que generaba la historia me tenía queriendo leer todo bien rápido para saber qué carajo iba a pasar. Ya más cerca del final la trama tomó un giro más bien filosófico que no era lo que esperaba entonces fue medio un bajón xd not my cup of tea; pero bueno de todas formas es un manga que se lee súper rápido con un arte espectacular.
