Mountain Man - Hugh Glass a true legend. A fur trapper, frontiersman that was ripped to shreds by a pissed off grizzly bear. He was left for dead. A group led by a military man on an expedition left him. Hugh was driven and survived by desire alone for the revenge of being left for dead.
He somehow managed perseverance. No other could possibly have endured. In the first days he mainly was in and out of consciousness, but not really aware. He struggled to survive by the need to find the men who betrayed him. He crawled approximately 200 miles to safety at Fort Kiowa, using his wilderness skills to survive. There he hoped to find the men who left him without his rifle, knife and supplies.
Hugh with his strong will and his desire ate berries and roots. Dragging himself with a broken leg the first quarter of a mile. Slowly as he healed and drew strength he managed miles daily.
Hugh Glass's story is true. This novel is also true but to a point, fiction in maybe the storytelling of accuracy. Once I started though I really wanted to continue reading. Very adventurous and exciting wondering:
"How does he survive?"
"How in the world does he make that 200 miles in the mauled shape he was in?"
"Does he find the men and take his revenge?"
I have not read any other sagas of Hugh Glass's life including Michael Punke's The Revenant as of yet, but I have seen the movie (2015).
The meaning of the word Revenant: a person who has returned, especially supposedly from the dead.
Visually and in my mind unbelievable will.

Fascinating biography about Hugh Glass. I really enjoyed it, but it was a bit gory in some scenes for young readers. Well researched

I have read mountain man by Robert M. Myclung. I thought it was a great book. My foavorite part was when he killed a white bear, he was severly injured by the great beast and his partners thought he was dead and left him. He was also on board a ship when he and his crew were abducted by pirates. the pirates killed the crew and captuered him and his partner Jim. they were going to kill them the next day but in the night they jumped ship and swam a mile to shore. once they got there they were captured by pawee indeans the killed jim as a sacrifice and were going to kill him but he gave them a rare gem for a gift and so the chief adopted him as his son and gave him a powerfull gun whith perfect aim (which he named old faithfull). he decided he needed to return and left the pawee so he did and went back to the missury fur company. when he was there he was attacked by Rees indeans and he got shot in the leg. the reason why i gave this book a 5 star was because its a biogrophy so it realy happened to him. I thoght it was a great book.

May 12, 2022I read Hugh Glass, Mountain Man by Robert M. McClung. Hugh was an old mountain man. He went on a trapping trip and was injured by a bear. The group of men he went with split into two groups. Two men would stay back with Hugh and the others would go get help. The two men that stayed with Hugh .They got scared in Indian country and left Hugh. Hugh crawled himself to town. Hugh later sets out to kill the two men that left him. But decides to forgive them.
The theme of Hugh glass mountain man is adventure. At first it is just a story of a fur trapper. It progresses into a story of betrayal and revenge then to a story of forgiveness. “...The youth he had one thought of as a friend…” “Hugh felt more of his anger subside.”
The setting plays a huge role in how the events of the book play out. Without them going into the wilderness to trap there would be no story. If Jim did not live at the fort Hugh probably would have killed him immediately.
I liked this book a lot. I love to trap so the story and terminology made sense to me.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense,outdoors,and drama. Aside from the old timey English, the book is easy to read. The author did a great job with how the story is played out and he ensures that it is all correct down to what kinds of traps the men carried. Overall this was a great book.

This book is highly recommended for anybody that enjoys the outdoors or a book about the 1800's. The story goes on to tell how a trapper gets attacked by a bear, but manages to survive the attack. The crew who he is with have two men to stay with him, but instead they desert him. The trapper, Hugh Glass, is on a mission to get revenge on those men for whatever it takes. The book is a very good book with a great plot.

This was a fascinating account of a fur trappers in the old west. Many of the descriptions were extremely violent. Hugh Glass was a hard man and lived through hard times. I think middle school boys would enjoy this adventurous biographical fiction.

Book Review
The book I have been reading for the first half of the year is Hugh Glass Mountain Man. This book is about a man who is an American fur trader. While escaping from Indians he stumbles upon a grizzly bear with her baby cubs. Since he’s a fur trader, of course, he would try to take the beast down but he made a mistake with trying to take it on by himself. The bear attacks him and mauls him to near death. His team eventually finds him but they are sure that he will die. They leave him to die but Hugh was determined to live. To survive Hugh set his broken leg back into place, keep himself warm with the fur from the grizzly bear, and put maggots in his leg to prevent gangrene and he prepared himself for the journey to Fort Kiowa in South Dakota.
There were many things that happened in this book that I liked and dislike about this book. One thing I liked about this book is how it told a true story about how Hugh had to survive in the wild by himself. One thing I didn't like how the story started out, it was a boring start when the book began and then it just would have a lot of specific detail for everything. This is what I liked and disliked in this book.
I would recommend this book this to people who likes history because it has a bit of that in the book, I would also recommend it if you were liked a survival book it was a lot of survival details in the book. I think that the only thing that you might not like is how boring and how it got down to every detail like I said in the paragraph before. So, if you like this kind of book this might be the book for you.

Hugh glass mountain man lexile 950
This is one of my favorite books I’ve read it four times now and it gets more intense everytime.The first intense moment was when he was attacked and killed the white bear. Badly wounded he was abandoned by Jim Bridger and an older part of the trapping company when there orders were to stand by him until his death. However he made an amazing recovery. My favorite part of the book was when he spared young Jim Bridger. He was going to kill the other older man, but realized he was a scout for the army and couldn’t be killed. Overall it was a very good book the only thing i liked how they went into detail on the small stories in the book that most people wouldnt take the time to go into to, Like when he was kidnapped by pirates.I would recomend this book to anyone who doesnt care about gore.

This book is a little gory to I wouldnt recomend it to people that get grossed out by blood and stuff. I gave this book five stars because it kept me reading. Although I dont like to read I couldnt put this book down. My favorite part of this book is when Hugh gets attacked by the giant white she-grizzle. I think this the best because he has flaps of skin hanging down and his throat is torn open with blood gushing out. Also his back is completely distoyed. Like I said this book is kinda gorry at the begining and the rest doesnt have anything like that.

"I thought this going to be a kind of stupid book, but I loved it. It was exciting and interesting to read. Hugh glass really had some strength and endurance that I admire. It is amazing to believe that he really dragged himself hundreds of miles to a fort, in order to seek revenge, and then once he gets there, he never does get the final confrontation he at first wanted."

I realy like this book because, it was really interesting like how his buddies who were supposed to stay at his side left him because they saw indian tracks around them and though "why dont we just leave him he's gonna die any way. My favorite part in the book was when he found the guy that left him how he just let him go and that showed that he stepped up and was the bigger man thats why it was my favorite part.

There was a question on my 4th grader's assignment about Hugh Glass, otherwise I never would have known about this amazing story! This is a fictionalized book written for young adults, and I read it in one day. It's about betrayal, survival, revenge, and forgiveness. There are good Indians and bad ones. Hugh was one tough dude! He gets shot in the back with an Indian arrow and survives, until the next time. Which is why the book isn't longer.

When people complain, my son tells them that Hugh Glass wouldn't cry like that. My wife brought this book home so we could learn a little more about this historical figure that our son likes so much. Two funny notes : Our son is in his mid thirties, and I hate bears.

What I liked about this book is that it was a Historical fiction. I also Like how it explained how this man survived, and how he almost past. You should read this book because it is more of and action, and adventure. This book also shows how it was to live in the old days like 1800's.

I watched a trailer with DiCaprio playing Hugh Glass. So i had to research the man the myth. The legend. What a test a will the trapper had and to not lose his mind under great physical pain. Wow.

I loved this book. It had a good story to it. A trapper gets attacked by a bear and needs to find a way to survive. I recommend it to everyone.

Hugh Glass lived a very rugged life filled with expeditions. Left in the wilderness, torn apart by a angry Grizzly Bear, Glass is motivated with revenge. He is driven with vengeance for the men who decided to just leave him out there to die. But truly, I think his resilience was amazing the way that he was able to make it back to the world and live again.
