Karla Gracey was born with a very creative imagination and a love for creating stories that will inspire and warm people's hearts. She has always been attracted to historical romance including mail order bride stories with strong willed women. Her characters are easy to relate to and you feel as if you know them personally. Whether you enjoy action, adventure, romance, mystery, suspense or drama- she makes sure there is something for everyone in her historical romance stories!
The setting of Boston and Eagle Creek, Montana made a great comparison of city and rural area. Jake Graham, decides to place an ad for a mail order bride. He is in for quite a surprise.
The characters were enchanting and had lots of layers. I connected with them right away. There were surprises along the way as I was enthralled with the details of a sweet romance. Another lovely story by this author. Highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.
The story is a sweet, clean, historical romance with angst, emotions, and love. It was fun reading and experiencing the locations, history, and people. While this is the tenth book in the series, it will read well as a stand-alone.
The story takes place in three locations, Eagle Creek, Montana, Boston, Massachusetts and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Jake Graham and his best friend and partner, Walks With The Sun, both apprenticed under Jonas Gilpin to learn the art and trade of blacksmithing. Jake has never really pursued any relationships with the various girls in town—but now he feels he would like to consider marriage—and goes through a matrimonial agency advertising in papers in the East.
“You’ll find the right woman in time. She’ll come from far away, but will find her way to you.” –Strikes The Iron
Laura Collins is a governess and Elodie March is the nanny to Ronald and Alice Galway of Boston. Both ladies lost their parents as young girls and while from society, the relatives didn’t want them and instead sent them to boarding school to learn a trade. Laura doesn’t want to be a governess and takes the notion to answer a mail-order bride ad to a man, Jake Graham, of Montana. All the letters are constructed together by Laura and Elodie. Elodie is content, and more down to earth and Laura wants to climb back up the ladder of society—and a blacksmith doesn’t suit.
The story’s plot will have Elodie losing her nanny position in the fall when the twins will be going away to boarding school. Laura is asked to continue as governess, and expected to travel with the family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She had agreed to go to Montana and meet Jake, and since she can’t, she wears Elodie down until she agrees to go and break the news to him since a ticket is already purchased. When Elodie arrives, Jake is so nervous, that he keeps talking and doesn’t allow her to explain she isn’t Laura. Between nerves and exhaustion from the long train trip, she plans on clearing it up the next day—but it seems to never be the right time. When she finally confesses the truth—he is hurt, angry, and wants nothing to do with Elodie or Laura. Anger rules his emotions—he abhors lies and feels he has been played a fool. Elodie is brokenhearted because he won’t listen, and deep down, she has feelings for him. So what will become of these two? Will time to heal open Jake’s eyes to what had been right in front of him? Will love prevail?
If you have not read this entire series, I highly recommend it! This is the tenth book in the series, and it does not disappoint. Jake is a blacksmith in Eagle Creek, with a good business. He has seen how others have placed ads in the matrimonial paper with great success and he finally decides to give it a try. Elodie and her friend Laura have been reading the matrimonial ads and Laura decides to write a response. But she has Elodie write most of it, and when Jake responds, it is Elodie that is very interested, but Laura responds that she will come meet him. But Laura runs off and does something completely different, leaving Elodie to go meet Jake. However, when she arrives and tries to tell him what happened, he is very talkative, and she can't get a word in. Time keeps going by and she doesn't tell him. They start to fall for each other, and she wants to tell him, now she is afraid it is too late, and he will hate her. It really is very well written, and you can't help but fall in love with the characters and their trials. I really enjoyed this story.
My first mail order mishap book and I must say I quite enjoyed it.
Jake decided it was time to first the meant for him. Although many ladies in Eagle Creek wanted him none of them seemed right for him. So he placed an advertisement for a bride. Laura and her best friend Ellie read the brides wanted section coming across Jake's ad. Laura with Ellie's help responsed to Jake. Jake was instantly drawn to Laura and was bold enough to insist she comes for a visit in Montana to get to know him and the town he loves so much. Laura told it was to soon to go. They had only just began write each other....
That's all I'm gonna tell you, you will have to read the book to find out how the love triangle ends. You will be pleasantly surprised.
This is another of the Eagle creek bride series. Elodie and Laura are working in Boston as a nanny and governess and decide that they need more out of their lives. They get ahold of the matrimonial listings and they pick out one in Montana. They both work on the letters to Jacob in Eagle Creek and he is very interested in meeting Laura whose name is on the letters. He invites her to come visit and at the last minute Laura doesn't go and Elodie goes in her place, she doesn't tell anyone that she is not Laura and by the time she leaves she is in a dilemma, she is in love with Jacob and he with her but as the wrong girl. She tells him the truth and the betrayal is more than he can deal with and they go their separate ways. They find their way back to each other for a happy ending.
Karla Gracey has created such a wonderful community in her Eagle Creek series and this book is an awesome addition. Each book can be read as a stand-alone but it has been so much fun watching the community grow and learning the back story of all the characters. I love how the Crow indians are also included in these books. These characters seem more like friends and family than fictional people in a book. Also the story line will keep you entertained to the very end.
Two blacksmiths from Eagle Creek are best friends. One finds love and a happy marriage. One realizes that he wants the same, but there's no one in town that interests him. Could he find happiness with a mail order bride?
Two governesses from Boston. One is looking for love, the other is happy with her life, but in a short time, she won't be needed.
I enjoyed this story. There are many deceptions, some beautiful scenes and twists and turns of love. Enjoy it for yourself!
This was a great story to read, Mail Order Mishap. What started out as a traditional mail order bride story, quickly becomes a mishap, when Elodie takes the place of her friend, Laura in meeting her intended, Jake for the first time. You will totally enjoy this amazing story.
I was given an ARC of this book by the author for an honest review.
I read this book with great pleasure. I have read a number of mail-order bride books and I think that this is one of the best I can remember. The plot is believable and held my interest to the end. As a man, I'm a bit of a romantic and found this a very pleasant way to spend a few leisurely hours!
This was definitely one of my favorite mail order books in a while! Elodie and Jake were amazing. They were destined to be together. Even facing several obstacles, that they needed to overcome. I was left with happy tears at the surprises the ending afforded.
I was so excited to read another book in this series although being #10 I was. concerned if it would stack well with the other 9 books. This author did not disappoint at all! This book is just as interesting as the ones before it!
Enjoyed book, but there are gaps/jumps in events that could have been better developed. Indecision and not taking time to listen to each other is a major factor in the confusion shown in this book. Intresting addition to the series.
I enjoyed the story and the history behind it. Interesting to see the huge diversity of cultures between East and West! Still differences with the old rich and the middle class, and even more with the lower classes. Well written.
This was a fun story. We know by the time Elodie gets on the train that she is halfway in love with Jake already. What happens next is a comedy of errors and perhaps fear of how Jake will react. The question is, did she lie or did he never give her a good opportunity to tell the truth? I enjoyed this book.
This was absolutely a great book and by a great author. I highly recommend this book and author. I can’t wait to read the next book by this wonderful author.
