I was fortunate to get this book as an ARC and really enjoyed it! It was fast paced from the very beginning and didn’t let up until the last page. The reason for 4 stars is there were some holes in the storyline, but they were easy to figure out throughout the story and some of the abuse I didn’t like but understood it was part of the story. I would definitely read another book by this author.

★★★☆☆

Jane Alexander’s The Devils Duo is a quick, twisted dive into the dark allure of love between two morally gray characters, Damon and Mariah. Brought together by dangerous business ties and a shared, almost gleeful ruthlessness, the pair embarks on a violent journey to escape a powerful family’s grip. Damon, driven by power and manipulation, is thrown off course when he meets Mariah, whose own dark inclinations mirror his own, awakening his self-awareness in the worst (and best) ways possible. Their chemistry is instant, sparking a whirlwind of chaos, violence, and toxic attraction that keeps the pages turning.

While the story's fast pacing adds intensity, it leaves some scenes feeling rushed, missing the opportunity to dive deeper into the characters' psyches and give their relationship a more complex evolution. A bit more depth and development would have elevated the story, providing readers with a fuller exploration of Damon and Mariah's twisted romance and psychological complexities. Still, it’s an entertaining read if you’re into darker romance and psychopathic protagonists who find comfort in each other’s destructive tendencies. Many thanks to the author for the ARC—I’m curious to see what twisted tales Jane Alexander writes next!

The Devil’s Duo is a fast paced, gritty little novella with a dark twisted core. It follows Damon and Mariah, two dangerous morally grey characters whose paths collide in a chaotic mess of passion, power and violence. Neither of them are “good” people and that’s exactly what makes their dynamic so compelling. It’s one of those stories where you’re constantly questioning whether their love will redeem them or completely destroy them.

The writing is raw with a strong atmosphere and some intense emotional moments woven through the chaos. You can tell it’s a debut as the pacing is a bit rushed in parts and I would’ve loved more depth or backstory to some of the scenes but it still kept me fully engaged the entire time. There’s something really magnetic about reading two deeply flawed people unravel and find a strange kind of connection in their darkness. Overall, this was a quick addictive read with bold characters and a violent dark romance edge. If you enjoy morally grey characters and don’t mind a bit of messiness in your love stories then this one’s worth checking out.

The Devils Duo* by Jane Alexander was a great read. I enjoyed the well-crafted characters and the rich background. The trigger warnings were manageable for me, and the fast-paced story kept me engaged. However, the swift pace did leave some plot holes and made certain scenes feel rushed. Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed the book, especially the twisted love between Damon and Mariah. I would recommend this to other readers who enjoy a fast-paced, intense romance.
