Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.

Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.

Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.

[Tadashi] was smiling and giving Hiro a thumbs-up.
Hiro smiled back and took a breath.
“Sorry. My name is Hiro Hamada, and I’ve been working on something I think is pretty cool. I hope you like it.”

Hiro, and his brother Tadashi, are recovering from their newly orphaned status (because...it's a Disney movie...).

Hiro's lost all interest in his schoolwork, his friends and life. He's a certifiable genius but he's using all his smarts in underground Bot Battles on the streets of San Fran Tokyo

Tadashi just can't reach his brother...that is, until Tadashi finally takes Hiro to the lab.

There, Hiro is able to see all the absolutely amazing and unbelievable science happening all around him...and soon he decides he wants to join Tadashi and his friends.

He took out a small object no bigger than a paper clip.
“This is a microbot.”
The small object in his palm took a bow.
“It doesn’t look like much,” Hiro continued, “but when it links up with the rest of its pals, things get a little more interesting...”

And just when things are looking up, the unthinkable happens and Tadashi is ripped away from Hiro - plunging Hiro into a deeper spiral than ever.

Hiro then meets Baymax - a leftover personal project of Tadashi. Baymax is a health-robot, designed to help humans. Baymax may have met his most difficult challenge yet.

Meanwhile, Hiro's microbot technology has been stolen by an evil super villain and it's up to Hiro, and Tadashi's friends to take back the city.

I really loved this movie and the book was pretty good too!

The author did an excellent job of expressing the joys and sorrows of this story. The characterizations were really well done!

The plot was thoroughly covered the movie but didn't feel like a complete repeat.

The only thing that bugged me about this novel (and honestly, it also bugged me in the movie too) - too much happens.

First we have this wonderful and tragic story of Hiro and Tadashi, The battle bots and Baymax. I cried during the movie and felt just so much emotion as this story unfolded.

Then, around halfway, we have superheroes and supervillains. Suddenly Hiro and Tadashi's friends have all superhero origin stories and they have to fight these Big Bads to save the world.

It just feels like too much for one story for me. I would have loved one story or the other...but to cram both into one movie just overwhelmed me.

A very enjoyable retelling of the film. Big Hero 6 follows the story of Hiro, whose brother Tadashi prods him into entering a science expo in order to attend university. Hiro wins the contest with his microbots but a subsequent fire destroys his invention and kills Tadashi.

Hiro discovers Baymax, a cuddly marshmallow robot invented by his brother to provide health care. When Hiro finds that some of his microbots survived and are being used by an evil villain, he wants answers, and to do that, he adds armor and fighting moves to Baymax's programming and gets a little help from his brother's friends.

Overall, Big Hero 6 is a far deeper story than it's plot suggests. It's a great juvenile adventure story, but like all the best Disney movies, it's a type of film that speaks to audiences whatever their age as it deals with themes such as revenge, grief, loss, and love.

The only problem with this book is that it's practically a description of everything that happened on film with no changes. This isn't a problem for most of the book. However, certain scenes of action and training on film should have been fleshed out in the book. Instead, they're described with brief expeditionary sentences.

Still, it was an enjoyable adaptation that reminded me of what made this movie so special

A wonderfully narrated audiobook. We haven't watched the movie, but my 4.5 year old loves this book. The characters are well balanced and realistic, for the futuristic settings. Its a 2 hour listen, great for long road-trips or lengthy commutes to and from school.

This is not as good as the movie, at least in my perspective. So the iconic movie meets book form and that was a big mistake, at least the manga were better. Anyways I would recommend to the very committed bunch to the Big Hero movie and manga. This book is simple all the characters from the movie, Big Max, Hiro (the main), Honey (the sweet one), GoGo (the tough one), Tadashi (the dead brother), Fred (the comic-book lover), and Robert (the antagonist). This to me, at least is, is the less scaled down version with not many pages and easily accessible, as I am kind with many other books I didn't like this at all, but yet here I am writing this. As with many other books I would read this again, as for this I wouldn't want to touch this book again. Trust me when I say this book is bad, this is based after the movie not before so this book has not much detail, the movie does.

Another junior novel of a Disney Movie, I read it to get it over with. Regarding the movie: the plot is sweet and nice, though I never really enjoyed it fully because I found that this story was too predictable and the the abomination that was Fredzilla was such a disappointment from the original comics and design.

A little bit different from the movie.

It was obviously loyal to the movie it just felt a bit overcondensed. If you like the movie and want to relive it, it is worth the read. Or if you have a child who loves the movies. Otherwise, it is pretty skippable.

Good Novel

This is the junior novelization of Disney's Oscar-winning animated movie of 2014, Big Hero 6, which just happens to be my favorite movie of all time.

So, why 3 stars instead of 5? Here's why.

The movie may be my favorite, but the book, while based on the movie script, is fairly different, and not in a good way. While the movie has beautiful animation and a beautiful score to go with it, reading through the book's bland writing style (sorry Trimble, I gave you a chance with two of my favorite Disney movies, I really tried) is not the same experience. Not to say I don't enjoy novelizations of movies or series; I absolutely love what Richard Ashley Hamilton is doing regarding the books based off the Netflix series, Trollhunters (here's my review for the first of the Trollhunters books). But the way this particular novelization was executed was poor in quality.

"But Light! It's a junior novel--this is for kids! What do you expect?"

I expect a good writing standard to grow up with. Now, this isn't to say that Trimble's writing is bad, per se; it's simple and concise, but she leaves out a lot of details, changes a lot of dialogue, and though she has her moments, the descriptions are rather simple. And she tells a lot rather than shows. Like, rule number one of writing? Show, don't tell.

So I stick by my 3 stars, bumping it from a 2 simply because the story is still mostly in tact. But as a final thought, if you're considering reading this, I'd suggest watching or re-watching the movie instead.
