Grrrr to summaries that are a blatant mis-representations of a books' storyline.

The synopsis for project Genesis, does a piss poor job of telling you what the book is about,
( and to save you the trouble of scrolling for it, I'll paste it here:

Vin Michaels gave up a lot when he “volunteered” for Project Genesis: a career, a normal life and a budding romance with the career-minded Helen Scott. But what else was he supposed to do when the government offered him no other option?

When a surprise attack on Earth brings Helen back into Vin’s life, he realizes he has a bigger fight on his hands than just getting rid of aliens, because his connection to her couldn’t be denied or brushed aside. But after Vin dumped her without explanation, Helen’s guarding her heart against the Alpha Squad team leader.

So, okay, Yes the H joined some super secret government program, but we don't get any details! Iirc, we don't even know what the deal was they made, or why it needed to be made! That all gets skipped right over, and were thrown in the deep end. And we get very few details about the project and its' results. I want world building, dammit, how is that a hard concept for so many authors to understand?

And the hero spends very little time trying to win the heroine back...no he spends most of the book pushing her away, but simultaneously trying to hold on to her....it actually got irritating , dude couldn't make up his fucking mind, and she had to live in the limbo of his indecision.

*Sigh*.. I sorta wanted to kick her for not even trying to move the hell on... Additionally, I'll readily admit I had a tough time liking the h...she actually says she blames her mother for being poor...seriously?! I think the author seriously should have invested in more inner monologues and introspection with her MC's, because bits like that one seriously need some 's'plaining!

And okay, maybe it's just me, but it felt like a lot of this story was told, and not shown... Too much info dumping if you ask me, and I just couldn't connect. I think the only reason I kept going was because it ( only loosely) remind me of Independence Day but it's turned into such a disappointing read, dammit!

Oh and It pretends an emotional heaviness that's just not there...liked there are moments between the characters, where the author, I can only assume, wants us to think are supposed to be all heavy, and meaningful, but they're really not. if anything they, much like the majority of this book are pretty damn shallow.

Oh and We finally do get some info regarding the top super secret military stuff, but it's at the end of the book....can you say too little too late? Maybe if we'd gotten this info earlier than the h, I'd have been okay, but by the time we get it, I no longer gave a crap. And if I did give a crap, I still would've been disappointed because said info was pretty vague...and left more questions than answers.

Now to be fair, this wasnt a bad book per se,..it just got the shit luck of being another book at the ( hopeful) end of a train of sub par reads I've been beleaguered by lately ....if you're not looking for a lot of depth, but instead are okay with a quick easy read, you'd probably like this, it's just not what I was looking for, so 2.5 stars,

Having said all that, In the name of full disclosure, keep in mind a few things:
1-It's nearing the midnight hour, and I've been awake since about an hour before sunrise...so it has been an impossibly long day. And I'm beyond exhausted. So please take everything I mentioned with a grain of salt and please forgive typos and other errors.
2- I still have like 20ish pages left to go, but I'm pretty sure my "review" will stand as is. if there are any glaring things I have to mention, I'll come back, k?

3.5 stars. This is a hard review to write as I enjoyed the story but it felt like it needed more information, background and build up.
It also kept reminding me of another series, even down to the rotten boss called Slade. Some acts were not explained, like why did Slade hassle Helen. What was that about?
Vincent annoyed me with his pushing Helen away whilst grabbing on to her.
Helen seemed a strong character but needed to give Vincent a good kick.
The aliens are well described and quite scary sounding.
The epilogue was not a HEA, we don’t really get one but took this story in a different direction without warning. Will be interesting to see where this goes.
Some simple errors should have been picked up in proof reading.

Awesomeness !

So recommend any books by this author, you won't be disappointed. For this book, it's got all the right stuff except the alpha and heroine in the book has a surface relationship that for me didn't seem deep - but in no way did this take away from the story line of this
book; for me it felt like I was half way through the book when it ended - and craved more. Still this book has all the awesomeness expected from a sci fic romance and this author!

The hero spends most of the book pushing her away. They broke up 6 months ago after he was enhanced by the government and now he has special powers.

This seems like it has the potential to being a great series. The one thing that aggravates me in this book is the main character Helen. Okay, maybe she isn't that bad, but the way in which she treats her mother drives me crazy and maybe in a future book they will address this. In short Helen has become a BFD with a great career while looking down on her teenage mother who was a stripper to support them when Helen was young. Yeah, without a doubt it would suck in a major way to know that your mother is a stripper and be made fun of because of it, but considering her mother was kicked out and had no one to help her I would think she would be a little compassionate. The phone conversation were her mother is basically pleading for a connection (mind you the world is going to crap with an alien attack)and Helen sort of blows her off just seemed disrespectful to me especially as her mother is trying to tell her about her job promotion at retail store and Helen is still acting like it just isn't good enough. Once again it would be horrible to have a stripper mom, but it doesn't excuse you to act like a stuck up witch to a mom that appears to have sacrificed a great deal so that you can look down on her in your ivory tower.

Michelle Howard does it again!!!!! Fantastic book with very strong characters who work well together.
Vin Michaels signed up for a experimental project to protect his country. He only had one love and he would have to leave her without telling her why.
Helen Scott met Vin in a coffee shop and they were together for six months then he left her without work.
But fate changed all that. He helped her to get to safety when aliens attack and destroyed her office building. But instead of taking her home he took her to his command center where she stayed until the next day. He decided that he would have to break her heart to protect her when he took her home. She couldn't believe he didn't have feelings for her but he turned his back on her.
Then one night he shows up on her doorstep wounded and bleeding for a battle and ask her to help him.
Will she help him? Will they admit their feelings toward each other? This is a thrilling book!!!! Lots of action!!! A must read!!!!!

I loved this book and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good sci-fi romance I gave this book 5 stars it's hot ,well written ,brilliant story and amazing characters I loved how alpha male vin was but also caring and sweet I also loved Helen she has the right mix of vulnerability and isn't afraid to stand up for her self when she has to
I must also point out why I loved this book I really do enjoy sci-fi /dystopian romances but it's hard to find them that's not ya or erotic but this book has a few hot loving romantic hanky panky but it's not overly done yes I shall buy more from this author in hope this wasn't a one-off as I haven't read her books previously.

I've been eagerly anticipating reading the next book from Michelle Howard, and she did not disappoint. I love how realistic characters are placed in a Sci Fi setting. Sure aliens are destroying the place and super enhanced humans have to fight them. But at the very heart of the book is a love story that many of us can relate to. My only complaint is it ended too soon. I was finished quicker than anticipated. And that epilogue has me on edge for the next book in the series. My mouth is already watering!

Loved it!
A mix of typical super soldier vs alien invasion but with a very interesting set of characters that allows you to dive deep into this story.

I particularly liked how both main characters Vin and Helen were tough and stubborn, feeling a lot but too proud to give an inch. It seemed like an impossible situation at many times but still, loves conquers all.

I really hope to see the rest of Alpha Squad in future books!!

This book had an interesting premise, and I liked the characters, but it felt like it was unfinished. The HEA, what there was of it, happened off page. WTF? The epilogue made it feel even more unfinished.

I jumped right into this book. It was very hard to put down and I finished it in about two days. Now comes the hard part... waiting for the next in the series.
