Lean microdose of Shane Jesse Christmass around 30 or so pages but packed with detail expanding infinitely through its sparse prose.
Like Christmass’ other work you would have to use a kitchen colander to sift through the sensory images for the story but you need to submit willingly and let it wash over you in a wave
Destructive relationship at the core that takes on a cult-like revelry through its elliptical nature
We are given the collected distilled essence of a life like a three-dimensional slideshow showcasing our menial repetitions
Its liquid narrative exists everywhere and nowhere it’s literally beyond time or outside of it but tailored to what the collective unconscious envisions of a Houston in apocalyptic ruin
About the energy and feelings places give off from a life lived like the dank residual memories of spaces
Heightened passionate expressions of love in the form of betrayal, drug abuse, dangerous sex, and blunt graphic cruelty
Overstimulating synesthetic stream of conscious word choice
Moments of lucidity that feel like life preservers against a raging psychedelia
Rereading the same passage could conjure completely different images
Earnest piece of art that doesn’t over intellectualize
The final line gave me chills and left me with a lingering bitter sweetness long after
