Just as Forrest is settling into life in the quaint New England town of Broken Hill and moving in with Mitch—her high school sweetheart turned local bookstore owner—she finds herself drawn into a dangerous investigation that the local police have dismissed.

As the lines between imagination and truth begin to blur, Forrest must determine if Elizabeth's manuscript holds the key to her disappearance—or if it will become her obituary. I was happy to see there was another book in this series. Agent Forest is back with another missing person in her quiet town. She’s still with Mitch. He’s such a good guy ! The mystery has several good twists and turns that hold one’s interest. I think there will be another one as this one ended with the hint of a mystery yet to come.

This is book seven in The Alexis Forrest Mystery series. Elizabeth is an author and when she goes missing and it is her manuscript that holds the keys to who took her and why. Alexis gets a call from Elizabeth’s agent saying that Elizabeth is missing and nobody will help her so that is when Alexis decided to help find Elizabeth but time is running out and will they find her in time. The circle is getting wider, more bodies are falling and the only thing that will stop this madness is to arrange a sting operation which will hopefully catch the culprits and eliminate the threat while bringing the suspects to justice. Wow I have read every single book written by Kate Gable who is a amazing author and writer and I have to say that her books just get better and better with each one that is released and I can’t put them down as they are so addictive, action packed and so descriptive on everything that is happening around you and it is so real that you feel like you are there living through it all with them. This action packed book will pull you in and keep your attention throughout. Kate’s books are definitely worth reading and you will not be disappointed and I can’t wait to read more of her books in the future.

The next book in the FBI Agent Alexis Forest thrillers. Alexis is supposed to be on light duty while recovering from a recent case. However, Alexis is not "made that way". She receives a call about a missing author, Elizabeth Kovalenko, from her concerned friend/agent Rosamund Malone. Rosamund is worried because Elizabeth has gone missing after uncovering a conspiracy in real life that matches too well with the fictional story she was writing. Elizabeth had been receiving threats and then was just gone. Rosamund wanted help. Alexis gets "hooked" and decides to investigate.

This story doesn't disappoint. Kate Gables is great at laying out a story that will draw you in and have you turning the pages to see how it all turns out. Alexis is a strong woman with emotional baggage from her past, but she is always able to compartmentalize it in order to solve her cases. Mitch, her significant other, is a very loveable, tolerant man who actually makes Kate a better, stronger person through his devotion, support, tolerance, and understanding. Kate is fantastic at making her characters so realistic and believable. I never hesitate to recommend her books when friends ask for an author to check out. Her books are great!

This is a thrilling unputdownable 7th book in the Alexis Forrest FBI Mystery Thriller! It begins Alexis getting a frantic phone call from a famous writer's agent. Apparently the author, Elizabeth, is missing. It seems the missing author has uncovered a plot very similar to the book she had written. And now she's missing. Alexis decides she has to look into the case and she is stepping into a very dangerous situation. Add to that and she is moving in with her boyfriend, Mitch. This is a page turning edge of your seat thrilling mystery that keeps you guessing. I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series. Alexis is a great character. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

This is a good story, but inconsistencies in the flow has me considering not reading any more books by this author. For example, in the Kindle edition (Loc 761), Alexis says "...wishing I'd brought my service weapon..." which, to me, clearly shows that Alexis has no weapon at all. However, at Loc 779, while continuing the story started before Loc 761, it says "...stepped through the doorway, weapon raised..." What the heck? Is Alexis a magician?

In the River's Hollow book I previously read, I reviewed that the flow was also off with several noticeable inconsistencies.

Perhaps the author (or her publisher) need to find a better proofreader. What are your thoughts?

Weird inconsistencies

Now I am not a FBI agent but there was weird stuff. She knew people were in danger but she didn't get them protection until the end. She left the old guy who saw everything back at his place and he was the only eye witness.then the whole cabin scene was just cut off and its the next day. He told her to hide the files and she left them in her car trunk??? They were watching her parents house and she never warned them or got them protection. I was just befuddled. But I do love this series.and the author!

A Choice

The story develops around the choice of answering the question "Is it ok to do bad things for the common good?"
Through out the book we are reminded of the bad and the good. However, when "the good" prevails it allows people to be strong in their own thoughts and live again!

A author writing a novel about a town murder goes missing. FBI Agent Alexis Forrest receives a phone call from the writer's agent. Alexis enters the investigation on her own and finds a dangerous network in operation. A page turning thriller that I could not put down.

This is the seventh book in the Alexis Forrest FBI series. It’s full of mystery and suspense. Alex is investigating the disappearance of an author who was writing a book about the town murder. Will Alex find her dead or alive? This is a great addition to the series.

I am really enjoying this series. This one dragged somewhat in the middle when it seemed to become somewhat repetitive, but the beginning and ending kept me wanting to read that one more page, one more chapter.

FOREST OF DECEPTION is the seventh instalment in Kate Gable’s contemporary, adult ALEXIS FORREST FBY MYSTERY suspense thriller focusing on FBI Special Agent Alexis Forrest. FOREST OF DECEPTION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines sis revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from first person perspective ( Alexis Forrest) FOREST OF DECEPTION follows FBI Agent Alexis Forrest as she begins an investigation into a missing author, a woman who uncovered information meant never to be revealed. Two years earlier, a seventeen year old boy drowned, and the police refuse to reopen the case but author Elizabeth Kovalenko, working on her next best seller, would uncover a possible conspiracy surround the death of the young man. A call from the author’s agent, and a town of reluctant witnesses finds Special Agent Alexis Forrest, without the consent of the people in charge, conducting an investigation of her own, an investigation that will place a target on the back of our story line heroine. As the bodies begin to mount, Alexis discovers the story goes much deeper than she could have ever imagined when the people she loves are threatened.

The world building is, once again , familiar between the author’s series, and leading heroine-too similar from back stories to boyfriends, plotlines and ongoing premises. Alexis Forrest is determined to prove that the accidental drowning was no accident but someone else is determined to take Alexis down. Meanwhile Alexis’s boyfriend Mitch is struggling with his girlfriend’s obsessive need to take every case, a need that is threatening their own happily ever after.

The colorful secondary and supporting characters include Alexis Forrest’s long suffering boyfriend Mitch, Elizabeth’s Editor Rosamund Malone; as well as frightened townsfolk; local law enforcement Captain Christopher Felch, and Bukowski, and retired police officer Walter Greaves.

FOREST OF DECEPTION is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, murder and threats, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is captivating, dramatic and dark; the characters are determined and dynamic. FOREST OF DECEPTION ends on a bit of a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
