Sapph in the City

Undeniable You

Rate this book
I’m so close to everything I’ve ever wanted, including getting my graduate degree in reading education, when a series of unfortunate financial events hits me like a ton of bricks. I need a job and I need one NOW or else I’m in big trouble. This was not in my plan and I’m crossing every appendage I have that I can find something that fits with my class schedule, will pay enough, and won’t destroy my soul. A very tall order.

One minute I’m a single mom in grad school, living away from my family for the first time, and the next I’m withdrawing from school, moving back home, and signing a lease for my very own romance bookstore, all thanks to an inheritance from my beloved grandmother. The new bookstore is taking up all my time and both of my moms are unavailable to watch my daughter, Juniper, but my best friend, Sophie, knows someone she thinks will be perfect.

Looking after Juniper should be a breeze. She’s a fun, well-behaved (relatively), and engaging kid. The problem is her mother, Larison. I never should have taken the job when, during the interview, I was hit by a bolt of lust so strong, I almost blacked out. She’s definitely a Mom I’d Like to…well. You know. If this were a regular workplace, I’d report myself to HR, but I seriously need the cash from this job. All I have to do is keep it in my pants until I’m financially out of the woods.

Being distractingly attracted to my new nanny was not something I ever saw happening to me, but here we are. Jo is driven and gorgeous and she’s wonderful with my daughter in a way that makes me feel all kinds of inappropriate things. The combination is lethal and I’m struggling to keep my professional distance, but it’s taking a toll on my sanity. I never should have hired her.

Absolutely adorable!

When single mother turned new bookstore owner Larison hires struggling grad student Jo to be a nanny for her five-year-old, the last thing either woman wants or expects is for attraction to spark or feelings to develop. But the longer they fight their connection, the more they realize it’s undeniable.

Undeniable You is the absolutely adorable fourth addition to the Sapph in the City series. Larison and Jo are clearly meant to be from the start, but watching them figure it out through stolen looks, secret crushes, and the endearing domesticity of caring for Larison’s cute daughter Juniper is highly entertaining. When the realization finally dawns, their relationship unfolds with a delightful mixture of sweetness and spice, along with plenty of humor. The surrounding cast of side characters, including couples from previous Sapph books, enhances the overall story and makes its queer community feel real.

If you’re in need of a low angst sapphic romance with fun characters, Undeniable You is a perfect choice.

I was too busy looking at Jo. My Josephine.
She’d been mine this whole time. And I’d been hers from the beginning.

3.5 stars. This is becoming something of a comfort series to me. My go-to if I want a sweet sapphic romance that's pretty low stakes and low conflict, but delivers a lot of heart and sexiness. I enjoyed this so much! It's probably my least favourite in the series so far, because out of all of the couples we've gotten, I really wish this one had been more slow burn, and that it had been longer. This is the kind of relationship where I really want to see the characters develop and grow together, and this romance took place in such a short period of time. I was a teensy bit disappointed. But the overall experience was just as delightful and swoony as I expected it to be.

Larison is a single mother who just returned to town, and is in the midst of opening up a new bookstore. She needs a new nanny for the summer for her daughter. Jo is a grad student studying education and needs a job to help her for the summer. They're introduced through mutual friends, and while they each feel an instant attraction that might make things difficult, it's such a perfect fit for them both, and Jo takes the job as Larison's nanny. And what follows is a cute, sweet, really sexy, slightly forbidden romance. As with any nanny romance, the connection with the kid is a really important ingredient, and I loved Juniper so much. For the most part, she did read very believably as a smart, precocious kid. And she was present enough on page and had enough of a personality that I could really feel Jo bonding with her. Five is a tricky age, and the author didn't make it seem too easy, or too hard. It helped that Jo is literally going to university for this type of thing, and has a fair amount of experience with kids, so it didn't feel inconceivable that Jo was able to connect with her and manage her easily. (Though I will say, both she and Larison are pretty young, mid 20s ish, and they both felt and acted older.)

I really loved the moments where Jo took care of Larison, did extra little favours and chores for her, not out of obligation but because she wanted to, and already felt so close to them both. The attraction was pretty quick, but I'm glad that it at least took them a while to act on things. The chemistry is really good, really hot. There's a little side plot with Larison's moms, who were really cute. There are hints at the complicated relationship Jo has with her own mother, which we didn't really explore, to my disappointment. And I wish we had spent more time seeing Larison work on her bookstore, and Jo work on her degree. It wouldn't have taken much for us to get to know these characters a bit better.

Most of all, I just wish this had been longer. I love everything about the trajectory of the relationship, and where things went with all three of them. It would have just meant so much more to me if it had taken them at least a few months to get there. I don't think it's farfetched that Juniper would have latched onto her fun sweet amazing nanny very quickly, but it's a little incredulous that Larison didn't want to take things slower. Especially since she has a kid involved. I mean, I'm reading a romance book, so EYE know things are going to turn out okay, but I think as a parent, you would be a little hesitant to introduce a new partner into your and your kid's life so abruptly. I'm not sure of the timeline, but I'm pretty sure this book took less than two months. The 'other mama' conversation came up SO quickly; it was a little staggering.

Despite that... I don't know. I just really enjoy the author's writing, and the way she does romance. I fell for this couple so very, very hard. Listened to the audiobook as read by Lori Gardner and Amber Goode, and I liked it! I will say, Larison's narrator took a bit of getting used to. Especially the kid voice she did for Juniper. I actually started off kinda hating it, but by the end, I kinda liked it? It fit Juniper's vibes as a smart, weird kid. And as always, I'm glad I had the audiobook, because I'm really not fond of the way the author always drags out words in dialogue phonetically. "Fuuucccccckkk." It just feels kinda silly to me, lol.

Overall, another win for this series. Looking forward to the next one!

Larison Meets Jo and it’s Undeniable!

Super cute and super sweet hot for boss with some friends to lovers and maybe found family added in. Love this friend group! Actually wish we could have seen a bit more of them but it makes sense that we saw much more of Sophie, being Larison’s best friend. We got a bit of Reid but I would have loved more! The others made some cameo appearances which was awesome!

Nice

It was a nice ending to the four friends' stories. I just wish there could've been more intermingling of the friends. Maybe a book 5? A linear story with all eight getting a perspective? Or at least the original four? I would definitely read that

Dripping with sweetness

Such a cute book. The relationships grow in such a sweet way. Not just Jo and Larsons but Jo and Junipers and the moms. Juniper is a precious little character that makes me smile.

Spectacular.

Overall a feel good book. It did move fast, but sometimes, that's how life works. I enjoy Cameron's books. You won't regret it.

3-3.5 stars. I really liked the book - until they got together. The yearning and pining was delicious - although it bothered me a bit in the beginning that the pining was purely physical at first. They barely talked to each other. Luckily there was time for them to get to know each other through texting after a bit.

But... the instalove trope which I don't generally like at all dropped the rating for me. Their relationship was too U-haul stereotype for me to truly like the story in the end. Why couldn't it take the whole summer, why everything had to happen within a week?

And it really bothered me that Larison was like 24/25 years old and had raised a kid, gone to college and almost finished graduate school as a single parent straight after highschool. It's just too unrealistic for me to really invest in the story. She could have been like 3-4 years older and gotten pregnant senior year of college or something. But Larison's age was set because she was Sophie's childhood friend and Sophie was introduced in the previous book. Unrealistic ages/timelines is my pet peeve.

This was low angst and a lot of fun, and Juniper is the bomb. I just have to be clear on that before I say: the very start was a little much. As in, point at your open mouth and make fake gagging motions kind of a little much? (Though, I say that fondly.) Jo and Larison have such intense first reactions to each other it was just a bit over the top. “Couldn’t keep my limbs working and my lungs functioning” kind of reactions.

OK, well, I’m glad we got past that because then it got to be a lot of fun. Jo was so sweet with Juniper, it’d be hard for any parent not to fall for her! And it was clear how hard Larison worked for Juniper and what a good job she did despite getting the bookstore going on the side. The insta-attraction was kind of superfluous because Jo and Larison fell for each other so naturally for all these other reasons, and that was the fun part.

I mean, a lot of the fun was in the denial. The “I can’t fall for my boss”/“I can’t fall for my nanny” kind of thing that went on for a good long time, while their feelings got plainer and plainer and ever more obvious to each of them individually. And, it was sweet that when it finally came to a head, it wasn’t an explosion — it wasn’t completely without drama but they handled it really well, all things considered.

Then, of course, there’s a lot of fun while they sort themselves out and a very happy conclusion, with Juniper again playing a pretty significant role. What can I say? I’m a sucker for kids who have an influence on the story like that.

To be clear, my very favorites are all angstier stories… but for a sweeter and lighter kind of thing, this really hit the spot. Oh yeah, and did I mention? Juniper is the bomb. :)

Juni, the kid, was fun to read and sweet. And I did like the main characters in terms of personality, Jo and Larison. But the dialogue was just bad in this one, a lot of conversation about benign minutiae that spanned pages and did not do much for the stakes or conflict. I liked the characters, but it was still hard to plow through.

It could be something about the dueling points of view that makes this an issue, we know the real longings of the characters from their internal points of view, and since all of that is just delivered as inside, it leaves the dialogue not particularly compelling when they do talk to each other. Not enough of the kind of conversation where a character has to take a risk, or reveal something. The dialogue cannot just be about what pizza to order or what time it might be for bed, if so, it's just not satisfying.

Happy story with a happy ending

The whole thing was sunshine and rainbows. There was no conflict or anything. Just two people content with being single and generally happy with their life paths who meet, fall in love, overcome a small bout of nerves at confessing, then seamlessly combine their lives at warp speed in that way sapphics tend to do.
Usually a total lack of anything to really overcome or a significant character arc bores me, but I enjoyed every sugary moment of this book without all that. A hearty meal is essential...but sometimes we all crave a little sweet treat. Like cotton candy, not much substance, but melts in your mouth and is impossible to stop consuming once you start.

This book features a child character - and I want to note this upfront because it matters significantly to the story. While I personally have no issues with little characters (no pun intended), I know some readers prefer child-free romances. Here, the child isn't just background; they're pivotal to the main characters' interactions (or lack thereof), unlike stories where kids merely exist in the periphery.

What makes this story work:
1. Both characters achieve professional growth through mutual support – a refreshing dynamic
2. Their meeting has that magical 'six degrees of separation' quality, beautifully illustrating how interconnected our lives can be.

Jo needs a job to make ends meet for her final year in college. Larison needs a full time babysitter for her 5 year old daughter, Juniper, while she opens the bookstore of her dreams.

From the very first moment they meet for Larison to interview Jo, there's attraction on both sides. And both of them fight to keep it under control.

Of course, you know how this is going to play out, right? Especially with a little unintentional 5 year old matchmaker helping things along?

This is a gentle feel good story of finding then accepting love where it comes, of pursuing dreams, including the dream of finding "your person". This was a fun, lovable book!

Undeniable You is an enjoyable addition to the Sapph in The City series. This tale follows Jo and Larison’s developing relationship as they follow the “falling in love with the nanny” story arc. The relationship develops quickly, there is a small amount of angst, and there is a chance to catch up with several characters from earlier volumes. No major surprises, just a comforting read with the expected HEA.

so cute

Another hit by Chelsea Cameron.
This book is so sweet, expect a trip to the dentist when you’re finished.
This couple have that instant, heart stopping connection from the first moment. What follows is a great story with a seriously cute kid thrown in the mix.
Perfect winter evening read.

GOOD, OLD-FASHIONED LOVE STORY

Chelsea M Cameron always writes an excellent love story. This one was one of the best. I especially enjoyed reading that one of the MC’s parents were women! It took me at least half of the book to realize that Larison was named for both her moms, Lara and Allison.

Undeniably sweet!

I love this story, and I love their path to HEA. I was already rooting for them in Saph book 3! It's a testament to finding love with all of the other priorities in life.

Undeniably Wonderful

This is a great romance read. Cozy up with a nice drink and some snacks, then settle in and just enjoy. I love the low angst, there's some alright but it works itself out quickly and I appreciate that. I just like to enjoy an enjoyable story!

I was really enjoying this until they officially got together and then it all moved at an alarmingly fast rate: the 'I Love You's, the moving in together, the becoming the kid's second parent. Calm down, like.
