Kate Gable has, once again, hit it out of the park with her new book, River's Edge. It is a well written, well plotted, great story line with characters that will draw you in, whether you love them or hate them.
Enter River Collins, an FBI agent, who is covering a case of two young mothers who seem to have just vanished off the face of the earth. These were women you would never consider high risk: well-to-do, married, children, heavily involved with their children's schools, kept their homes like show pieces, etc. So, what happened to them. River and her team are tasked with the case.
River is a driven woman with a past. While I can feel empathy for what she went through and her past, I found her to be a very unlikable person. She is self-narcissistic, insidiously arrogant,. I say self-narcissistic because she recognizes what needs help about herself but does absolutely nothing to improve herself. She needs therapy, but doesn't get it. She is insidiously arrogant because she thinks she is better than everyone else; she finds fault or resents everyone she meets or knows, but keeps it to herself and focuses on not showing her disdain. This arrogance and disdain even extends to her co-workers and sister. Her sister knows that River must move on, and to do so, must meet people. While not the wisest thing to do, her sister sets her up on blind dates, which go over like a lead balloon. River mostly "tolerates" her co-workers; there is no socialization outside of work.
River has no friends. If she had her way, she'd be the only rock in the pond. She doesn't socialize or even try. The fact she doesn't makes her hard to like or to feel too much compassion for. I'm sure Kate will have River excel in time. So, while navigating all her negative feelings for others, River has to compartmentalize her issues in order to do her job. She does her job well as it is really the only thing she has and the only thing she cares about. I look forward to seeing River evolve and become a more mentally healthy human being.
This is book one in The River Collins FBI Mystery Thriller series and omg what a great start to a new series. Twenty years ago River was abducted and managed to escape but even now the person who abducted her has never been caught which leaves her in some kind of flux but she still had the scars and nightmares and never forgot about what happened to her and now being a FBI Agent she does everything that she can to uphold the law and protect people and get justice for the victims by putting the bad people behind bars. When two mothers go missing and all that is left behind is a car and blood it is a race against time to find out what happened, where they are and try to find them before it is too late. River is getting really frustrated because there are no clues to what happened or where they are and on top of that her nightmares from her abduction from when she was younger is coming back with a vengeance as this case has stirred everything up for her but River is determined to leave no stone unturned so that she can get the answers that she needs and find these women before it is too late but River feels like something is not right and things are not adding up at the moment and then they get a breakthrough which uncovers that things are worse than they thought so now it is all hands on deck to solve the puzzle and hopefully bring these women home alive. Wow this is only the fist book and I am already addicted to this series. The story pulled you in and kept you on the edge of your seat while turning the pages and it kept my attention throughout the whole book and I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.
A riveting crime mystery that grips you from the first chapter. This chilling, atmospheric thriller is populated with mysterious and wonderfully flawed characters. Get ready to be engaged in this page-turning thrilling crime mystery like no other. It’s intense! It’s an emotional turmoil! It’s full of heartache! RIVER’S EDGE is the first book in the River Collins FBI Mystery Thriller. Kate Gable weaves together plots, the plight of motherhood, and family strife to create a book that lingers with you long after you have read it. With River’s traumatic escape, the past is ever present here, and in ways both relatable and surprising.
FBI Agent River Collins was asked to investigate a missing case of two mothers who are reported missing. This case is so close to River as she has her own demons that she has been trying to elude. What could have happened to the mothers and why have they both disappeared around the same time—so many questions and few answers? River must wade through the web before the case goes cold. What happens next? Well, read this heart pounding crime mystery while waiting with bated breath for the next book. I highly RECOMMEND this book.
This new series by Kate Gable is a must read for mystery/thriller fans. River (first off, cool name) is a survivor of a traumatic experience when she was a child. Now that she is an adult she hunts perpetrators of crimes. Her first case is about two women kidnapped before they can pick up their children from school. River and her fellow agents begin searching for clues but there is little to go on. Both husbands act peculiar during their interviews adding to the mystery of the case. Meanwhile, the reader gets glimpses into River’s past and why she has trust issues. The added part of River going out on dates was a great addition mostly because it helps the reader imagine what the private life of a FBI agent must be like. There are some other side issues going on that River is able to offer her friendship as a way to grow as a person. There are many things that could be seen as distraction from the case at hand but the author has River handle them in a way that shows women are capable of being an agent, a mother and a survivor of crime and function at full capacity.
RIVER’S EDGE is the first instalment in Kate Gable’s contemporary, adult RIVER COLLINS FBI mystery thriller series focusing on thirty four year old, FBI Agent Rebecca ‘River’ Collins.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from three first person perspectives including River Collins, RIVER’S EDGE follows in the wake of the abduction of two local women, stay at home mothers, with only their children’s school to connect them. Remembering her own kidnapping twenty years earlier, Agent River Collins struggles to face the possibilities of what is happening to the missing women. As River, and fellow Agent Emma Bertinelli begin a deep dive into the possible whereabouts of the missing women, a pattern begins to emerge, with the discovery of several other women missing in the surrounding area…but all is not well in the FBI office when one of their own suffers the ultimate betrayal.
Meanwhile, River’s sister Leslie is desperate to see River happily married, but the blind dates are failures, and only one man has caught the eye of our story line heroine.
The world building is familiar to fans of Kate Gable as there are many similarities with backstories and premises, including the betrayals directed at the heroine, and the people with whom she works.
RIVER’S EDGE is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, friendships and relationships. The character driven premise is intriguing, dramatic and gripping; the characters are determined and charismatic.
This is the first book in a new series filled with action. It follows FBI agent River Collins as she investigates the mysterious disappearance of two young mothers on the same day. The only link between the women is that their children attend the same school, prompting River to delve into every aspect of their lives and finances to uncover the truth. This case hits close to home for River, evoking painful memories from her past, but it only strengthens her resolve.
River is a strong, fierce, yet broken character who struggles with social interactions due to her history. This book is a true page-turner that keeps you hooked until the last page. I can't wait for the next instalment in the series!
FBI Agent River Collins still has some unresolved trauma after being abducted 20 years ago. She obviously survived this and now helps people as an FBI agent. Now, two mothers disappear on their way to pick up their kids from school. It turns out the kids go to the same school. River dives into the case but it also brings up the past for her. I always love these FBI books. I like to see how they hunt down the killers/abductors etc. River is driven. Parts of her past come back up to the surface as she tries to focus into the case. I enjoyed the book. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.
Wow! The first book in an edge of your seat thriller series that keeps you turning pages until the surprising ending! We are treated to an intense protagonist with a lot of baggage and passed trauma of her own in FBI Agent, River Collins. River was tasked with the case of two missing abducted mothers. She must put her own past on the back burner since this case brings back some of River's own demons. Her kidnapper was never caught. This story line grips you from the very beginning and never lets go until the end. I can't wait for the next book in a very promising series. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
This is a start of a series that I really enjoyed. River's story will twist up any heart, and admire her strength to fight for others. This read took me on the twisty ride with her as she investigates and chases down what happened to these two missing moms. I love the ups and downs that come with that, how she handles things that could trigger her past, and her ability to be there for a friend. I'm looking forward to what comes her way, and having a series that will keep me on my toes!
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters of a new thriller. It is the beginning of an exciting new female lead with a traumatic history that is revealed throughout the story. The characters are relatable and believable. The plot kept me turning the pages and the twists kept me guessing until the end. i would recommend this book to readers who enjoy strong female leads. I received an advance copy if this book and this is my honest review.
OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! I cannot believe that this book ended the way it did. I cannot wait to read the next book. This book had so many twists and turns that I found myself reading faster than I ever have before, because I was so anxious to find out what happens next. So glad I read this book and am excited to read the next book in this series to find out what's going to happen next. You won't regret reading this book. I promise you!!!!
FBI Agent River Collin is on a case which deals with two women who had suddenly disappeared at Charlottesville. Rivers was also dealing with her traumatic past. There was a lot going on than it seemed which was nefarious. A chilling read which is unputdownable. I received this ARC copy and recommend this book to other readers.
This is the first book in the River Collins FBI Mystery series. The plot is well developed and the characters are great. It’s heart pounding and action packed. The drama and intrigue drew me in right away. The gripping plot is full of vengeance, secrets, lies and betrayal. This is going to be a great series and I can’t wait to read more.
This is a thrilling read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This is a new series from Kate an FBI agent called River who has a lot of things that have happened in her life. There is a call about a Mum that’s gone missing after the school run and it seems it’s going to be quite close to home for River. There is a lot going on in this first book and I’m looking forward to finding out more about River and the other characters
Two housewives go missing without a trace. FBI agent River Collins was taken a number of years ago and held captive. She knows the terror the women must be going through. A criminal network that expands the state and maybe more. A very enthralling novel that moves quickly and keeps you interested.
I received an ARC of River's Edge and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I really enjoyed having multiple mysteries in one. It kept things moving along. While the mysteries were solved a lot of them can be continued into the next book which I think is great. That along with the cliffhanger in the end and the description from the second book has me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book to come out.
Really good book. There were so many things going on. Rivers back story, and present, her partners issues, and the missing women. It kept my attention and made me want to keep reading. I highly recommend this book.
This story is full of twists and turns in the search of kidnapped women without hardly any leads to go on. The story was also a narrative of having to rely on others to accomplish your job, letting down walls, allowing people in to help you with life and job.
This is a fantastic new series by Kate Gable. I love everything she writes. This one has a great cast of characters. I love River and her complex history. I could not put it down once I started it.
This was a great story about River searching for two women and what they were involved with and finally finding them with lots of suspense and action. Thank you for this excellent story.
Wow! I love Kate’s books and the girl missing series, but I think this one is the best one yet!! Definitely didn’t disappoint and I can’t wait for the next one.
Kate's books are always a page turner and this one is no exception! Be sure to get yourself a copy and relax and read. Thank you Kate for another fantastic book!
Absolutely loved book one! River is an fbi agent but her life has been rough now with two women missing will she be able to find them before it's to late? Will her past come back to haunt her?
An extremely well written book I couldn't put down. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story was so compelling I had to keep reading, missed some sleep because of it. An edge of the seat page turner.
