I have to give books 5 stars if they make me cry. It's just the way of the world (especially when they have me crying at work, like, seriously, how dare)

The final battle is nearing; the losing bet is Alkoria. Telli would do whatever it takes to protect her family... even lose herself. The stakes have never been higher... I could taste the tension running through the story.

'There is no line she wouldn't cross..' YEAH! 'No bargain she would not strike' YEAH! 'To drag his soul to the under realm' HECK YEAH!

Telium's journey concludes in the most epic way it could. Her anxiety about the sands of time running out had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the end. It has twists and turns that only Madeline Te Whiu could weave and a romance that I swooned over (literally. swooned.). This book was a drug – I was hooked.

If you like dark fantasy, soulmates, and morally grey (insane) FMCs, then I BEG you to read this series. I want to talk to more people about it.

4/5 spice. On-page sex scenes (have you SEEN the fanart on Te Whiu's socials??).

I can’t believe the series is over.

I have laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve spent countless hours messaging Maddy about these books (sorry Maddy!!)

Telli & Pax will forever have etched themselves into my heart and soul.

Telli really does show you that no matter what you’ve been through, no matter what you’re going through, you are ALWAYS deserving of love and happiness.

Madeline - the only thing I can say to you, is thank you. These books are everything to me ❤️

I loved this so much. I always hate saying goodbye at the end of a series and this was such a well done final book in the trilogy.

Highly recommend the audiobooks! I listened to all whilst reading along and loved them so much.

I think this book could have been condensed immensely, I still love the story and concept of this trilogy but I can’t lie about the disappointment I felt for book 3. The interactions between Telli and Pax were really the only good thing about this book, the rest was fluffy. Good potential and really solid effort, I’m rooting for this author to grow with her writing because her ideas are great.

I really don’t want to say goodbye to Telium and the Alkoria assassins. This book really gave me everything, mortally grey heroine, found family, assassins, a Fae war, Goddess and Demonic princes, romantic with 🌶️ but without taking over the story and some great side characters redemption arch. One I absolutely loved but didn’t realise how much I loved it until the last page in the laat chapter.as I was so torn about loving this character and then wanting to kill them cause Maddi you had me bitten my nails up to that minute.
Took the 0.25 star off because my only negative is so would of loved more of a sexual tension between Teluim and Pax though the book their was a bit but not enough to put him on the level of Book boyfriend Xaden, Cassian and Rhys, those book males you can’t get enough of. Teluim was an amazing heroine but Pax just not quite perfectly written yet.

Well…
Shit…
Did not see those emotions coming…
The war in this book is written with great detail and I loved it. The sexual content warning was finally earned in this book 😂 absolute contrast to how the first book read.
Watching Telium going from having no one to having a family and a soul tethered was amazing growth.
Little mad over the characters that die in the end but aye… is it really fantasy if some of the secondary characters die

Definitely rate this series

The biggest and baddest battle of all time is upon Telli and the Alkorian people.

Sides are chosen.

Traitors are exposed.

The truth is revealed.

And Telli is about to show everyone why she is the most feared assassin in all the kingdoms.

The Queen Thief is an action packed, soul reaping journey that will have you on the edge of your seat for what happens next.

Telli and her family of Assassins are preparing for another battle with Hermitch and his rebel fae. They seek help from the council, who I believe Telli should reap their souls, Queen Isadora with her Thresiel Fae and the fellow Alkorian people.

She is met with resistance and rejection, again and again. But she will not stop until her people are safe from Hermitch and his band of rebel fae.

I really enjoyed seeing Telli come into a position of power and finally put some people in their places or cut them down and made them bleed for their actions or lack of.

A whirlwind of emotions were experienced while reading this. I was panicked and anxious in the beginning, confused and frustrated maybe halfway through, worried and scared towards the end, sadness to the point of weeping and then bittersweet happiness at the end.

Ps. There were times where my heart stuttered and I weeped with grief. I was literally leaking from my eyeballs. I was not okay. I will be sending Maddy my therapy bill.

But the ending is worth it all.

For the two people who have suffered through absolute horrors and have fought everyday to survive to finally find peace. I’m here for it.

Take me to the sea!

Oh and that surprise appearance by a goddess! I was shocked to my core!!

Oh and if this review doesn’t already scream read the book and the entire Soul Thief Trilogy then let me tell you. Go and read it right now. You won’t regret it.

Massive thanks to Maddy and New Dawn Publishing for allowing me the pleasure to arc read this trilogy! THANK YOU.

The Queen Thief, is the final book in The Soul Thief Trilogy. From the first sentence we are thrown back into Alkoria, into the fight, there is not one moment of downtime this book gives you. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and keeps you going, keeps you searching for redemption, revenge, victory. Filled with secrets, learning to trust, and many deals brokered in the pursuit of dragging Hermitch to the underrealm, once and for all. A tense, almost-700 page journey to right the wrongs and find peace - internally, for others and for her country.

Im a blended mix of happy and sad. My heart is broken, this book breaks you and heals you. It is the ending to the series that i needed. I feel content. I dont have a million questions and what ifs/what abouts roling in my head. I have an embarrassing amount of butterflies and contentment and love - bandaiding the rawness of my heart.

The Assassin Thief was one of the first books i picked back up after not reading very often, so to be on the other end of the trilogy, to have come through the past few years, is a feeling i cant even begin to describe.

Telli teaches you, reminds you, of your ability to love, to accept who you are, that you are, above all, worthy. To find your family amongst those who would not support you. To forgive, to learn.

I loved watching Teli and Pax’s journey to each other. I LOVED the final battle - the fall. I both wanted to throttle and understand the revenge filled anger grief of Queen Isadora.

And Lotte. I loved her in book 1 and there was nothing you could do to stop me loving her throughout book 2 & 3. But you can determine for yourself.

THE ENDING had me literally pulling my hair out. I was not expecting that. Well done.

Congratulations Maddy. Thank you to New Dawn for an Early Review Copy of The Queen Thief. All opinions are my own.

This is the final instalment in The Soul Thief trilogy.

This trilogy... I've been following it from book 1. I absolutely love the world and complex character's Madeline created! The tension between the FMC and MMC can be cut with a blade.

The lead up to the huge battle was everything, it had me on the edge of my seat. Telium will do everything to ensure her peoples, and her families safety.

The ending was everything. ✨Trauma✨ I love how bittersweet the ending is. Two people who have been through everything and fought right to the end, get their happy ending. (In a way I totally didn't see coming!)

A HUGE thank you to New Dawn Publishing and Madeline for the ARC copy of The Queen Thief! Amazing trilogy, please go read it!!

Amazing book to end the series, the ending scared me a little with that dead scare.

I wish the ending was a little more stretched out, kinda felt very rushed to get the ending done.

But overall, very good series and I will definitely re read in the future

The story is compelling with well-developed characters, especially the protagonist Telium and Praxium that as a reader, really get to know along with her ‘family’.  At the heart of it, all the books are one big love story with dark undertones with some demon summoning and goddess intervention thrown in the mix for good measure

The actual story line over the three books reminded me a lot of Amanda Bridgeman’s Aurora series, where there’s a lot of story development but not a lot happening until right the last 7 or 8 chapters (and still waiting for the Aurora series to have the last book written!).

Now I come on to the criticisms of “The Queen Thief”,  compared to the first books, “The Assassin Thief” and “The Soul Thief” where I could find no typos, no spelling mistakes or any errors in copy at all, with “The Queen Thief” it’s riddled with them, almost as if Elanor Narey (proof reader) and Chelsea Wilcox (Copyeditor) gave up quarter way in to the book (examples at the bottom of the review.)

Other issues I had, and these really have been throughout the trilogy is the lack of varied similes, the use of the “They/Them’ pronoun for one of the characters totally threw me for a while reading as had no context or back story to the use. The prime example being the use of “fakrir” as an description for just about anything and everything.  The constant reference to Tealium’s bi-colored eyes really had little to no bearing on the story line at all but frequently is brought up. The constant reference to Teliums haladie knife dagger really was just constant and overly referenced and finally the map in the front of the books is so small to read with black on grey colour even with a magnifying glass it’s tough to follow where the characters are in story.

With all that said, I do give Madeline Te Whiu a lot of slack as is her first published series, and was truly a compelling read that drew me back daily wanting to continue reading the story and unlike so many series, this one has, with out giving away any spoilers, a satisfying heartwarming end, though was a bit of a rollercoaster to get there.

And now for the examples:

Page 15 : “She knows that pain, Knows if from the scars she has decorating her forearms when she was leaning (Learning?) to par with a blade.”
Page 89: “Beyond her shield, the crowd has turned into a violate (Violent?) press of bodies,”

Page 274 : “ ‘My advisors, ‘ Telium replies. ‘Sila, Esmerelda, Hazel, and you I’m sure you know Praxium.” (Doesn’t scan correctly)

Page 364: “By now, the boy has reach Telium” (reached I suspect is what was wanted)

Page 373: “Sila is nods her head in agreement” (this one really even a basic grammar check would pickup)

Page 413: “’There is one a bell’s hard side (ride?)  south-east of here.’”

Page 417: “If (It?) feels like even the trees lean in,”

Page 500: “, if they will be split their numbers,”   (no need for the ‘be’ – will make sense as an error when read it in context)

Page 521: “, he rearranges her to (so?) she is nearly sitting in his lap,”

Page 533: “As it is, he (his?) emerald eyes,”

Page 590: “, their mounds so close the (they) are nearly touching.”

The Queen Thief is the fast paced, thrilling steamy conclusion to Madeline Te Whiu’s debut trilogy. The Soul Thief trilogy follows Telium, a once feared assassin as she embarks on an adventure full of love, heartache, revenge, retribution, and most importantly self-acceptance. This story was absolutely unreal, you could honestly feel the love and devotion that went into writing this beautiful novel. The maturity and level of writing is outstanding which made the end to Telium’s story very compelling and emotive full.

One of my favourite parts about this book was the beginning. Paxium was not present for a good chunk, and it left you to see the independent side of Telli, (Yes, I LOVE Paxium don’t get me wrong, but seeing such female empowerment was such a power move). It really showcased the relationship that had been developed over book two, and how these bonds aren’t dependent on each other but instead enhance and aid each other. For this I have mad respect for Madeline, for not only making a badass female character that is imperfectly perfect, but for also giving us that suspenseful enemies to lover’s romance. One of the other aspects that really jumped out to me while I was reading, were the glimpses into the past. You have no idea how much this was needed. It helped explain so many fractures, which helped Telli slowly heal as the past revealed itself.

As we discuss Telli and her journey it is very important to note that she is very selfless, even if it almost kills her. This is more than evident and had me sobbing from chapter 52-54, as we learn what she must do to save her kingdom, what she was born to do; “Always a pleasure doing business with you, daughter of mine.” The relationship between Telli and Pax grows more than ever as this story continues and is beautiful to watch as she walks the line to acceptance with Pax every step of the way. We cannot ignore that while they are wholesome and give you the ‘awwww’ happy sighs, they also have a very passionate connection. There are multiple instances that will have you fanning your face from their sexual tension, but we all saw this coming right… all I’ll say is chapter 42. This book is definitely a slow burn, it is tantalizingly slow, seductive and everything you’d want in this epic conclusion.

While reading this book, the number of times I gasped at the twists and turns and the now obvious easter eggs trailed through the previous books left me shook. This book highlighted what ends Telium would go to for peace not just for the late Siren Queen, but for the Assassins, and the whole of Alkoria as she continued to put them first through numerous personal sacrifices, ‘The People’s Queen.’

“It’s the royal bell…To welcome the Queen home.” ‘The assassins amongst them go further, taking a knee in front of their Lord and Queen.’

This excerpt above had me squealing, crying, let’s be honest… even threw the book. It shows the power one holds by showing true devotion and honesty to their people as Telli fought for what was right continuously.

I wish we got some closure on the relationship between Telium and the goddess Tenebris as they are so intricately intertwined, but I loved the twists involving the princes of the under-realm. I’ll leave that there so you readers can still have a suspenseful read.

I also wish the character Ariel could have been written better into the storyline. Their representation in this novel was good but could have been better. The explanation part was unnecessary and drew attention away from the story when it wasn’t needed as Ariel has been apparent from book one. No special treatment needs to be warranted to characters and people who identify this way, just as you wouldn’t with Paxium or Telium’s character, especially as I quite enjoyed reading about them.

Setting that aside, as we approach the end of the book it gets very emotional. This book ended up being almost 700 pages long, yet the ending still felt a bit rushed, I was not prepared for it to end. That being said the last 200 pages tied up the story beautifully, not just for Telium but also for her companions. One of these companions has held a soft spot since day one, Kya. Her devotion and admiration for Telium after everything is breathtaking, and after Kya’s personal struggles it is awe-inspiring to read about her strength and infectious joy. The found family is more than evident at this point as Telli has found her family, her people to share the lows and highs with.

Lotte…. My heart shattered and repaired itself all at once. A lot happened with Lotte, both bad and good. Honestly, I’m at a loss for words. She is a beautiful character that cared deeply for her friendship with Telium despite the mistakes that happened even until the end, “I came to tell you goodbye one last time…. Maybe in the next life, we can be friends.”

The conclusion has me crying tears of happiness and sadness as these characters adventure comes to a close. This book will have you feeling every emotion imaginable and sucks you in for a hauntingly beautiful ending, ‘You deserve happiness too,’ Selenia whispers.

I struggled… there were parts that were great don’t get me wrong, but I feel like the book was longer and far more drawn out than it needed to be. And even after all that I still feel like a lot was left unresolved. We had a few great twists, and after what felt like the longest slow burn of all time we finally got some spice too.

I can’t breathe.
I’m sobbing
I’m crying so hard it feels like I’ve fractured a fucking rib into my lungs.
I’m dying.
What the di k
It can’t be over
I need more
I need more
More
Mormemkre
I need Paxium and telium back.
I can’t
I didn’t finish it.
I’m in denial.
What the fuck
I can’t
It’s not
No
I can’t.
Help me

I guess I actually have to talk about the book instead of spewing nonsense so here we go.

This series will stick with me for longer than I care to admit. It is so fucking wonderful and unexpected for a debut series.
I’m actually spinning out at how well written and how well planned this is.
I actually think this series comes into my top three.
What the fuck.

Everything about this book was spectacular.
Ranging from the characters, their betrayals, deaths and friendships. And then the plotting and way everything is laid out to the end so there is no fault in sight.

Firstly characters.
Lotte.
I don’t knwo how to feel.
I think I really like her.
Even when she was in a horrible state because her waitan died, she essentially killed telium so that she could be saved by being killed from isadora. And then just before teliums life floods away, she saves her.
Literally makes her come back to life.
I actually love lotte because she always wanted to help but didn’t know how and I feel like she could be so misinterpreted but to me it makes sense.

Next.
Telium.
If I was her I would not have lasted a moment in this lifestyle. First being elected to run an assassin academy, but then having to take charge of the whole fu king hims country.
If that burden was placed upon me I would break.
And like I know she had pax to lean back into, but she still fought with all she had.
In every battle she fought, she tore and tan through anyone who threatened her family.
True leadership.
I also love that she is a true morally grey character, and that she and pax go so well together.
Like in battle they reach for eachother for strength, or simply when the are doing mindane tasks such as secrete Lh transversing with enemies, they do it with ease together.
And then we move to Paxium.

Where do I fund one????????
I need a pax.
Like actually.
He is the book boyfriend.
Firstly he is always willing to follow what she says, unless it hurts her, but he also is absoloutleh filled with tension and yearning that reading this has mg goes curling.
He was woah.
Like everytime telli needed someone to lean on he was always there even when he had no hope to give.
And oh
My god
I felt so fucking bad for him when she died.
DIED
AFTER SHE ADMITTED TO HERSELF THAG SHE WAS FONNA ACCEPT THE TETHER.
like I didn’t think she was gonna coke back.
We had three pages left and she wasn’t alive and I was stressing and so was her.
He was actually full of hrief.
I couldn’t.
I heaved reading about her dying and his reaction.

Now
Onto all the deaths.
You know
The ones of all my favourite side character.
First
Errol. I can’t. I can’t. I still haven’t accepted that he is dead. He is just sitting in the corner conjuring a jest to say to telium
He is alive. I promise. I swear it.
And then Ariel. Omg when they died I was so scared for Jason. Like I know the weren’t tethered but oh my gosh.
I do wish we got his reaction but I think I would have torn into two.
Next came fucking sila. Oh my gosh.
I curled in on myself and sobbed like a baby.
A BABY.
And her last words.
Apart from the I love you. (THEH will be in quote section.)
And then fucking Esmeralda. My body was convulsing by this point.
J went into shock and just was sobbing crying thrashing throwing.
SO MANY CHARAXTER DEATHS THAG J LOVED AND FHEN HAD TO SOB OVER THEIR DEAD BODIES.
NO.

And lmg the plot of this last book shook me.
Like the war, even though it happened so quick and possibly unrealistic, it sttill felt fu king real.
Like the amount of death that came with it and the toll it took on all of the characters felt so human like and real.

And also hermitch.
Is it bad that I feel a tad sorry for him. I feel like he could have been not an evil conniving botch if he didn’t grow up around mallux and the mad fae king.
Not a sympathiser, just a realist.

Now
My favourite part.
Quotes.
However these are not happy.

“You have to let me go. It’s okay. This is my path. It’s time for me to lay my blades down. J am ready.”
Sila.
I am not ready. I
I sobbed through my teeth reading this. I can’t explain the pain I felt.
He dying tore something from
Me

“You don’t understand. Because I heard that demon, heard that he possessed your father and hurt your mother. And I don’t care”
I realise how bad thsi can sound out of context but trust me.
It’s not.
Pax the man that you are.
The amount of comfort his character brings me.

There are so many more quotes but I can’t comprehend this book and I don’t want to turn into a sobbing mess again.
So goodnight.
But no

A massive thank you goes to Madeline Te Whiu & New Dawn for letting me read an ARC of The Queen Thief, the final instalment in The Soul Thief trilogy! This dark fantasy series has truly saved the best for last with its epic conclusion, featuring devastating powers, emotion & overwhelming odds…

Telium is fighting to gather all of the forces she can, to meet Hermitch & his Fae army in a final battle. With her found family around her, she is playing every single hand she has in an effort to save Alkoria. But just how far can Telli push herself before she loses everything? The command given to her by Queen Isadora is getting stronger, & the Underrealm is calling her name. If she isn’t careful, Telium will lose not just her life, but her soul. Will she be able to harness her powers & defeat the great evil of their time? Who will stand with Telium & her friends at the end? Is there any hope that she will survive what’s ahead, finally gaining the future she longs for with Paxium?

Within The Queen Thief, we are taken on the darkest of adventures. Danger lurks in every shadow, ready to pounce the very second a back is turned. I could *feel* the time running out for Telium & her family, which is why I devoured this book over two days. Who could stop reading when it all comes down to this moment, this one chance to save everybody? Madeline is a force to reckon with, a masterful storyteller in the dark fantasy genre. And this is one of the best books I’ve read this year...

This series has my heart!!

"So many unspoken words pass between them. The once scared sheltered girl, facing the once broken warrior. Now a young assassin facing a Queen" - Kya to Tellium

From the Assassins Thief, I have loved Telium, but Queen Telli was just something else!! So strong and vulnerable, fearless and a mess. I loved her growth and evolution into the formidable leader in the face of everything. The way this book and series had me crying at those, we lost so much more. Especially when Telli was pulling the magic from the pillars and saw Trigg and then again when she was readying for battle with her family and the losses suffered. I loved the twists and turns at the end .... and then that closeout!!! What a rollercoaster that was!!. This story ended with loss and love and was beautifully tied up. It was everything Telli deserved and an absolutely amazing way to end this outstanding trilogy🖤.

This is by far one of the best fantasy series I have ever read. If you haven't yet and you love an epic fantasy, add the Soul Thief Trilogy immediately to your TBR

Telium will do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of those that she loves. But time is almost up; her final battle is almost on her doorstep, and Telium now has everything she holds dearly at stake.

The Soul Thief trilogy has ended in the most epic of ways. Telium fights until the very last minute, the stakes are high and my heartrate throughout reading was higher! Telium tries everything to save Alkoria and her newfound family; there is nothing that she won't do. But how far will she need to go before she loses everything, when danger is lurking around every corner?

What a fantastic end to the series! I can't wait to see what Madeline does next.

Pick up this series if you love:

⚔️ epic battles
❤️ morally grey characters
🩸 a sprinkle of spice
⚔️ complex characters
❤️ dangerous settings
🩸 high fantasy

Thank you New Dawn & Madeline for an arc of The Queen Thief, all opinions are my own.

I can’t believe this journey has come to an end.

Madeline Te Whiu has crafted something truly magical with The Queen Thief, and saying goodbye to this world is bittersweet.

Telli and Pax have completely stolen my heart. Their story is filled with so much depth, love, and resilience - I laughed, I cried, and I held my breath through every twist and turn. These characters aren’t just names on a page; they feel real, like dear friends I never want to let go of.

Telli’s journey is a reminder that no matter how broken you feel, no matter what you’ve endured, you are worthy of love, happiness, and healing.

Madeline - thank you. For every moment of heartache, every moment of joy, and for creating a story that will stay with me forever. These books mean the world to me. ❤️

What an epic and emotional conclusion to The Soul Thief Trilogy. From start to finish, this book had me completely captivated. Telium’s journey—filled with resilience, sacrifice, and self-discovery—was both heartbreaking and inspiring.

The banter between Telium and Paxium was a definite highlight, balancing the intensity of the plot with moments of levity and warmth. Their dynamic felt so authentic, and I loved watching their relationship evolve. The action sequences were gripping, the magic system felt richer than ever, and the stakes were higher than I could have imagined.

Madeline Te Whiu has crafted a phenomenal ending to this series, tying everything together in a way that felt both satisfying and bittersweet.

The Queen Thief 👑

Ahhh it’s over and what an amazing ending it was - the whole trilogy was amazing! Madeline did an excellent job of wrapping this series up in a way that kept you engaged and hooked right until the end. Did she hurt my heart - yes…was it worth it - also yes! Telium went through so much character growth and I loved being on this journey with her. The ending was honestly perfect for her! Telli and Pax are one of my favourite couples! I can’t say much more without going into spoilers but if you love found family, amazing adventure, a dark but strong female main character and a swoon worthy main male character then get onto this completed trilogy asap 🖤

Hmmm I just don't know that this was worth 600+ pages to be honest. I'm so glad we finally got to the romance and spice we'd all been waiting for for 2.5 books! And it was very good. I just don't know that this book needed to be as long as it was, there was a lot of the same will Hermitch attack here, he has attacked here, back and forth.

There were also a number of typos or grammar errors that I actually picked up in the book, so that wasn't great, mainly towards the end, and maybe because I wasn't as invested by then. I read another review that listed a bunch of errors, and none of those I had even picked up, I'd picked up a bunch of others, so I'd say there's even more than I noticed 😬

There were lots of parts of this book that I really liked, but I cannot get past the use of “hung” instead of “hanged” in the context of an execution. It’s literally the sole instance for hanged!!!! I also didn’t feel like the story had stakes because critical character died, which is why I was bummed at the ending. I thought the death of Telli would have been a bold choice that fulfilled her arc as the story had so clearly telegraphed that she was going to die and she had made her peace with that, so having that pulled out was irritating.
That said, I am excited to see what the author does next and how she progresses as a writer.

Omg it is done..... happy sad. This one had me groaning in frustration so many times I was cursing "the family" and Madeline for the torture she put poor Pax (and Telli) through 🤣🤣. My heart broke for favourite characters, and cheered for others. Just desserts were served and I can not think of a better ending to have been written for our Assassin Soul Thief Queen.
Loved Meeting Madeline for a signed copy in Brisbane, but now I know why she said what she did about Lotte and Orion and yeah GRRRR at you lady 🤣🤣💜💜. Thank you for an amazing story.

Ps this one does get Spicy..... eventually 🤣

I thoroughly enjoyed the final chapter of Telium and Paxium’s story - I laughed, I loved, I cried - but mainly I was bitterly disappointed with the numerous typos throughout the printed version I bought. It was just so distracting and frustrating to come across another one over and over again. No hate to Madeline as the story was engaging and impressive but the publisher needs to do better and represent their authors better because if this is the standard of what they are putting out to the public on the authors behalf it’s unimpressive.

I enjoyed this series and was excited to read this third instalment. I've had to remove a star for the sheer volume of spelling and grammatical errors, particularly in the first half of the book. They distracted from immersion in the story. In the acknowledgements, the author thanked her proofreader for correcting her poor spelling. She should be replacing her. It feels as if the book was rushed to press.
