The deeper the water, the darker the secrets. What should have been a regular mission to a remote wind farm in the North Sea turns deadly when the crew of the Electron stumbles upon a gruesome murder. The captain is dead, his first mate barely clinging to life. DCI Erica Cooper is called to investigate, but the vessel’s isolated location and history of buried secrets make this case far from routine.
As Cooper digs deeper, she uncovers a chilling link between the deaths onboard and a tragic accident from two years ago—a protest that ended with the death of a young environmental activist. The crew may hold the key to solving the mystery, but someone onboard is willing to go to any lengths to keep the truth submerged.
With tensions rising with the tide, Cooper must not only navigate the dangers onboard but also confront problems at home. Can she truly balance life as a detective with being a mother of two? Or are some sacrifices inevitable? Because it’s not just the crew hiding secrets—Cooper has some of her own.
Now, she must race against time to expose the killer before they strike again. But in the end, the truth might sink them all.
The Bridge is the eighth instalment in Baskerville’s gritty DCI Cooper series. Her novels explore the complexities of justice, morality, and personal sacrifice. Perfect for fans of police procedurals and psychological thrillers, this book is for readers who love complex characters, intricate plots, and a touch of darkness beneath the surface.
Fans of LJ Ross, Ann Cleeves, and Val McDermid will be hooked by Cooper’s relentless pursuit of the truth.
The 8th instalment in the DCI Cooper series is electric. It has all the awesome ingredients of the previous books, an eclectic bunch of characters, twisty plot lines and fast paced action. From the first page it feels like you are rejoining old friends, as the storylines wind their way through different crime scenes and the characters piece together threads of evidence. The whole host of different northern locations add to the intrigue, reading as a northern dweller, however the types of crime scenes add to the interest and cunningness of the clever plots within this book. A brilliant instalment from B Baskerville, can’t wait for the next book.
Loved reading this book. DCI Cooper and her team feel like old friends who are back together again!
The story lines were brilliant, with great locations that are so familiar to those living in the North East, which in my opinion makes them more relatable!
Thanks Faye for a great book, can't wait for the next one!
Can't get enough of the DCI Cooper series and now gutted that I've read all 8 and have to wait for the release of book 9. I love that Keaton is getting more time in the chapters but Cooper is a complicated individual who I get less keen on as the books continue. That said these are amongst my favourite crime fiction novels.
B Baskerville has done it again. Another brilliant story with great characters and a plot to keep you guessing. As someone living in the NE of England I love the locations and references to real buildings. Cannot wait for the next one.
Read all the books in the series.Author writes about the places where I've been on holiday and feels that I know the places she writes about. Also the family she writes about sounds so familiar with life today.
I really enjoy the DCI Cooper series, I can relate with her as I am a full time working man and trying to fit everything in can be challenging. The story plot and twist was great and I love the camaraderie with her colleagues. Can't wait till book 9 comes out.
