Rate this book
“I command thee, kneel!”

When a history buff reincarnates as the infant emperor Carmine, he’s immediately struck by despair—child rulers aren’t known for their longevity. But as he learns the ins and outs of his new reality’s elaborate metaphysics and “his” corrupt and bloated state apparatus, he sets in motion a scheme to purge the rot—and woe betide any scheming noble standing between Carmine and a functioning government.

Of course, he’ll have to survive first—no easy feat for a child emperor dancing on other men’s strings. But hey, how hard could running an empire be?

REAAAAALLY liked this one and want to continue it. I’m liking that any potential romantic feelings are age-appropriate for the MC H so far, so none now, with possibilities for the future solidly in the future.

4, can’t wait to read the next one, stars!

I read this 3 years ago as a fan translation and I thought that it was a bad one. It wasn't; it's just the way the book is written. There's nothing really to grab on and like for 3 to 4 hours of the read. You're basically in the world and he kind of feels like a camera with feelings, but makes no real connections because he can't. The author has trouble making small milestones interesting as a writer. The emotional development isn't there. It doesn't get that much better. Just a real big turn off on this book. Weirdly enough, it would make an ok anime. But I have a feeling the anime writers would make this whole first book like the first half, 1 episode and mostly fast-forward through.

Had the author made the magic a way for him to explore, it would have been much smarter as a writer, like "micro missions" or something. The author didn't. Just great idea, poor execution. Although I get through the book and have a feeling it might get better later, I'm not sure if I want to keep investing.

This one was a little rough for me. I thought the premise was interesting, but the execution left a lot to be desired.

This is a reincarnation plot, but instead of being reborn as the 12th son of a poor Baron or as the village huntsman's kid, our MC is born as a child emperor. It's a bit of a flip compared to the usual zero-to-hero path we often see with reincarnation stories that begin from childhood.

This wasn't an action story and instead focused on the political maneuverings in the empire and neighboring kingdoms as the MC pretends he's a spoiled and dumb child to avoid drawing too much attention. A puppet emperor is only useful when it dances properly on its strings and the major political players are most likely responsible for the previous emperor's death.

While many people might struggle to stay engaged with a story that focuses so much on the political power struggles, I enjoyed the change of pace and variety.

What I had a harder time enjoying was how the story was written. The MC basically describes everything as if he is summarizing events for the reader as they happen. So rather than getting a sense of experiencing the events and interactions, it's more akin to someone reading off some meeting notes to bring you up to speed for something you weren't present for.

Combining that style of writing with the significant amounts of exposition regarding kingdoms and various noble factions, I thought it was pretty boring at times and I usually have a pretty high tolerance for that sort of thing.

By the time this volume ended, the MC was age 10, I think. While the story was interesting, the slow pace despite all the telling rather than showing has me pretty reluctant to pick up the next volume any time soon.

This is one of those stories that I wouldn't mind seeing where things go, but will probably be more enjoyable when it gets an anime adaptation that smashes four volumes into a 12-episode season.

I found this first volume a surprisingly well thought out story at least for the usual isekai kid genius start ones. It is mostly a political intrigue where the MC tries to survive his younger years as a puppet kid emperor of a crumbling empire in the middle of a conflict between two opposing factions neither which is willing to give up their influence. While at first he just wants to survive, and flee, he changes his opinion after a chance encounter and decides that he is going to take over and protect his subjects to the best of his abilities.

The characters and setting are interesting and I am really curious how things will develop in future volumes. Having said that, there is a lot of exposition and talking with only a few events with some kind of stakes for the MC beyond keeping his disguise as a spoiled boy emperor up. Progress in the plot is limited as well beyond setting up the stage and its characters. So while I certainly enjoyed reading it, it was a bit boring at times.

I guess this one is a "not for me" novel. It is well written, but there is too much politics and government talk involved, which is not my cup of tea. I thought he was going to be reincarnated and then escape into adventuring, but that was not the case; he stayed as the emperor, and from the looks of it, they will develop that part of the story. So if you enjoy politics and nobility, you will enjoy this one. It is just not for me. On to my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!

I went into Imperial Reincarnation expecting a light, comedic conquest novel.

This is not that.

It does have moments of humor, but there are some complex politics at play that frankly I'm still not sure I have straight. Think Europe during the War of Roses to get the gist.

It's not bad at all, but not the usual type of light novel I read. I am interested in continuing, but I'm hoping the complex international (and intercontinental) politics are somewhat toned down in further volumes.

Amazing

Bought it on a whim. Lovely the flow of the story. I don't see any unnecessary context here. I'm surprised how well the details are on the back history of the nations and their religion. Can't wait for the next.
