Leah Anderson has one dating rule…absolutely no men in the medical field! She learned a long time ago from her biological father that men in the medical field care about one thing—themselves. Leah reluctantly agrees to spend one evening dirty dancing with her best friend’s brother, Jared, despite the fact that he is a medical student and real jerk to boot. Anything to help out her best friend!
Jared Billette has secretly crushed on Leah for years and acts like a real jerk to her to keep his attraction in check. Some things in life are simply taboo, and dating your sibling’s best friend is one of them. That is until his sister Jordan breaks all the rules by dating Jared’s best friend JT. Now pursuing Leah is suddenly fair game. If only he can help Leah see that her own stupid rules are meant to be broken.
I was born and raised by deaf parents in the Metro-Detroit area along with four siblings. Growing up in a house full of children, there was never a dull moment! We all inherited the reading gene from our father, who is a voracious reader. And the reading gene continues strong in my own two sons. I'm happily married (second time is a charm) to a patient and loving man who always cheers me on from the side-line to pursue my dreams. What more can a girl want?
This was cute, things seemed to miraculously resolve quickly, there wasn't much in the way of details either, but it was still sweet. I think I liked the first book more, though I thought this would have been better. Things just seemed to happen when their build up took years in the making. Just didn't seem realistic but I can't say I didn't enjoy it.
Sequel to Date Night, all the while Jordan and JT were struggling with their newfound feelings for each other, so were Jared (Jordan’s brother) and Leah (Jordan’s best friend).
Leah’s father was a doctor and he never had the time to spare to spend it with her; clearly, his job is more important than family. Therefore, she swore to never date anyone who was in the medical field.
And that includes, Jared, her best friend’s older brother, who was a medical student. Jared had the hots for Leah for years, but because she was his sister’s best friend, he knew better to make a move. But now that Jordan and JT were officially a couple, he was determined to finally catch his woman and he would do anything to prove to her that not all guys in the medical field are not into ‘quality time’.
Jared and Leah’s story is told in the same theme of Jordan and JT’s--charming and romantic and sweet. Theirs is less complicated and I could have done more with additional conflicts. Jared and Leah’s chemistry was coming off the pages! Although there are no sex scenes (if you are looking for that, you’d be disappointed), but don’t let that stop you--this is as enjoyable as any other romance novel out there!
P.S., do not read this without reading Date Night!
Fair Game is a light read showing how someone is able to overcome years of "conditioning" about relationships to find the perfect one for her. I loved how Jared made his intentions perfectly clear to Leah and went after her compassionately but with purpose. I liked how this book started with Jared in love with Leah and on a mission to convince her. I definitely found it interesting how the author introduced "The Five Love Languages" through Grannie and that Jared used it as a way to bridge the gap between Leah and her father. While Leah's father thought he was showing her love, their lack of communication led to a relationship breakdown due to their differences in "languages". And Jared was quick to identify what Leah's "language" was and to let her know that he got her! I did think that Leah's transformation from "hating" him to being in love was a bit quick but other than that, a delightful read with a happy ending.

Jared and Leah were very entertaining. They were fun characters, so I really enjoyed their banter and interaction. The book started strong with them both resisting their attraction, which had me smiling at their actions. They have know each other for many years, never anything more than friends (if that), though Jared was attracted to Leah, he felt she was off limits as she was his sisters best friend. In order to keep his distance he acted like a jerk to her. Once he realized he loved her he had to work to show her the real him and prove he wasn't a jerk and that she would come first over his career.
The daddy issues I thought were an interesting prospective on how people show love differently, but I kinda felt the taboo of falling in love with your siblings best friend/best friends sibling drug out too much. The story kinda lulled in the middle as their relationship changed, there was less flirty, sassiness which is what I loved in the first part. It did come back though, thankfully.
I was also waiting and waiting for some sexy time, but it never came. And that's okay, I don't feel all books need it, I guess I have just come to expect it. This story IMO didn't really need it. Jared was a very sweet, charming, funny, sexy hero and their relationship was interesting enough without a sex scene. If you want or like a good clean love story I recommend this book, if you are looking for a scorching hot plot you will be disappointed.
I also really enjoyed the epilogue. It was probably my favourite part of the book. So SWEET! I think I actually sighed. lol :D
Jared has been in love with Leah for most of his life. He has a couple of really big issues in his way. First, Leah is his younger sisters best friend. Second, he is studying to be a Doctor and Leah has sworn off dating any man in the medical field. When Jared finds out that his sister and his best friend are dating and become engaged all bets are off.
Leah has some serious issues with her biological father who is a Doctor. Growing up he never showed her love through hugging or being there for her or her Mom because he was always working. Sure he'll buy her whatever she needs but that isn't what she is looking for and this becomes the cycle of why she will not date a man in the medical field.
This is a continuation from RC Matthews First book "Date Night." In "Fair Game" you'll see what happens in the life of Jared and Leah. Leah learns to trust and Jared is there 100% behind her to help her get through her Daddy abandonment issues. Their relationship sparks and it's such a fun read. You'll enjoy watching Leah learn to trust again. Plus, see how Jared's sister Jordan feels when the shoe is on the other foot. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
When Leah finds out that her best friend's brother, the man who has been a complete jerk to her while they grew up, actually has strong, passionate feelings for her, it throws her off balance. The fact that Jared is hot and hunky helps her warm to the idea pretty easily, but she's got some daddy issues to work through first. As Jared helps her debunk long-held assumptions, it brings the two of them closer together, and helps repair the father-daughter relationship.
This sequel to R.C. Matthews' Date Night is a sweet tale about Leah's journey to love: romantic love with Jared and familial love with her father. But the central journey is an individual one. While I enjoyed watching Leah grow and forgive, I felt that the romance was secondary and, therefore, anti-climactic.
If you are a reader with strict steam expectations in your romance novels, then you might be disappointed with Fair Game. However, if you are open to the beautiful telling of a story, you will enjoy this one.
Eh!... this is where I would prefer more stars to choose from... I'd say out of 10 I would give this a 6 or a 7... A cute and light read, not terribly written but I've read a lot better... you know where the story is going right from the start... The plot was a bit blah, there are no major dramas or upsets and it could have a lot more detail... but I did enjoy it and Jared was really sweet
After reading the first book in this series, I immediately had to buy the rest in the series. I wanted to read more about Leah and Jared, and page by page rooted for them to have a happily ever after just like Jordan and JT. Now I am ready to read Tyler's story!
This was what I would call a sweet romance. There's mild intimate scenes (no s3x) and what I would consider a mild amount of cursing. And the angst is nearly non-existent. The conflicts keeping our couple apart and easily worked out.
There's no cheating. No ow/om drama (which I very much appreciated). There are a few scenes where Leah is considering dating someone else, but they are quick and don't cause much in the way of drama.
The characters are okay. I liked Jared more than I liked Leah. Basically because I felt that he had more of a personality. Her entire personality seems to be built on the fact that she won't date doctors. Because her dad was doctor and she feels he wasn't really there for her growing up. From that we get into what seems to be the reason for this entire book: promoting the love languages theory. Parts of this book read like an ad for Gary Chapman's book. Which, personally I find pretty problematic. But aside from that, it just didn't add anything to the story.
I don't know anything about this author, R.C. Matthews. I don't think they are a Christian Romance writer. I actually looked it up, and apparently now they have ventured into gothic and erotica writing. I'd be curious to read some of their other types of writing. Because for me, this book, while it did have some cursing and some mild s3xual situations, reads very much like a Christian romance. Granted I don't read a lot of Christian romance. But the talks about God and just the fact that so much of the solution to our heroine's problem is solved by an ideology created by a conservative Christian author definitely makes it feel as though it at least has a toe in that market.
Oops, I read Book #2 before Book #1. Oh well. It was a fun read, with strong characters and amusing moments. It's funny that I still enjoy reading high school & university age stories, and yet I am a bit turned off by a character who lives with his mum and still has his laundry done by his grandma. :P But I guess in his defense, he was only letting Grannie do his laundry 'cause it made her happy ... right?
Anyway, it was entertaining and a quick, easy read.
What I liked: There wasn't a ton of explicit sex scenes in this book. I don't mind them so much but it was nice to read a romance novel where every other page someone is opening condoms.
What I didn't like: For some reason the author does a 6 year jump right when it seemed a pivotal part of the story. I do wish the characters were fleshed out a little more but overall it was an ok quick read.
There are times when we just don't know what would be good for us. Then there are more times when we think we know what we want or don't want. There are two that will find what they are looking for where they least expect it. One know true desire. The other fight it.
I really didn't care for this author's style of writing. I felt like, I was reading a story written by, my teenaged niece. I just couldn't finish this book. The writing was too, imature, I'm my opinion.
This was a really sweet and sexy love story, a perfect follow up to Date Night...4.5 stars. Jared and Leah's love story was well written and entertaining. Love the different perspective on some of the first book's events! Ready to dive into the third in the series!
Loved the book. You know Grannie had a hand in there somewhere. Jared was great. He took his time winning over Leah. Even though it was his fault she thought he was a jerk.
