He retired from being a hero. Until an angel showed up needing one.
Winter
My whole life has been a secret. I've been hidden away from the rest of the world. If that wasn't bad enough, now I've been promised to a terrible man. I have to find a way out for myself and my sister. Even if it means dying, I have to try. The world needs to know about this place, about what goes on here, and maybe, just maybe, that will be enough to save us.
Garrett
I enjoy my quiet recluse life. No more missions, no more working tirelessly for the greater good. That was until she showed up on my doorstep in the middle of a snowstorm. An angel, one I could've never expected. She's everything I'm not, a treasure to be protected. If anyone comes for her, they'll have to go through me, and I won't leave any survivors.
The plot is ridiculous, and it's insta-love. It's also a novella, so everything is fast-paced. Am I complaining? Nope, I'm definitely eating this sh*t up.
I wouldn't consider it a light read, as it contains some serious incidents that Winter (20) experienced and witnessed within their cult. So those might be triggering for some.
Despite that, I still like this. It's an enjoyable read for me, although it's really absurd how fast their relationship went from 0 to 100. 😅
Brief background: Winter (20) escaped their cult and ended up passing out in front of Garrett's (late 20s) cabin. After he helped her, she asked him to assist her in saving her sister, who had been left behind. He agreed to do that, and before I knew it, they were both down bad for one another. Also, they were able to save the sister and unalive those people from her cult that went to Garrett's house to take Winter back.

This was a cute read, but it’s not as good as the next book!
Garrett comes home to his cabin to find Winter passed out on his porch during a snowstorm. She escaped her cult and needs help getting her sister, Libby, out. He agrees and falls for her instantly.
Winter was engaged to the prophet but doesn’t want to be his third wife. When her past comes back to haunt her, Garrett protects her.
It’s cute, spicy, and sweet. A simple read.
SAFETY: dual virgins slight OM (h’s ex-fiancée) no cheating/sharing kinks: dry humping, pushes it back inside, praise HEA
“Say It’s Forever” is the story of Winter and Garrett.
Our heroine, who is trying to escape from a cult collapses right infront of the hero’s house- who is an ex secret agent. It’s insta love, loads of sex, some drama and happy ending.
This is the type of short novella book where you just need to leave reason and believability and throw it out the window.
She is leaving her cult compound during a snow storm because she doesn’t want to marry this dude and become a sister wife. I mean, i totally get that. That one you can use your reason and beliefs. Okur.
She walks and SOMEHOW she finds the reclusive Hs house in the middle of the woods. OKUR.
He’s in lust with her and I’m like, how do you know she doesn’t pick her nose and eat her boogers? She has literally no knowledge of the real world like computers, drones, cell phones, etc.
They are both virgins and she doesn’t know how to drive (AS IF).
He gets his brother to go to the compound and eat her limp walking sister out and the guy she was supposed to marry finds her and H unalives his ass along with two other people.
There is a dog. He’s Russian.
It was not the best book but not the worst *shrug*
I describe the beginning of the story and few minor details, so there are some spoilers. I just wrote enough for me to remember the story in future, but I don't go into a play by play of all the events. I do focus on a few though. Still, I do not want anyone mad if I spoil anything, so read my review with caution. I WILL be rereading this story again and again! I thoroughly enjoyed it and I recommend it! Most of the review are my feelings on the couple. DUAL VIRGINS! (and I mean REAL DV, by that I mean that neither has any mention of experiencing any form of intimacy in the past. No mention of an OM or OW in the past.) ONE TRUE LOVE! *booty shake! happy dance! booty shake!* Safe No cheating No separation unwanted OM drama (h escapes cult because she is betrothed forcefully to one of the leaders. She does not want him and feels only disgust for him) Slight unwanted OW attention (there is a girl at his brother's bar who wants his attention and yoo hoo'd at him. He got annoyed telling her to leave him alone, slamming his car door leaving her with a scowl on her face.) YES! I love when the OW attention is unwanted and the hero shuts that down quickly! No gross condom use No third act break up No push pull HEA
So this is the story of Winter, a 20 year old girl who just escaped the cult she was born and raised in, to find help to get her sister Libby out, and to flee an arranged marriage she does not want to be in. She is incredibly sheltered and scared, but she goes out in a snow storm and stumbles on a cabin. She sees glowing eyes stare back and realizes it is a big dog. She is hesitant, but he puts his head under her hand letting her know he is friendly, and she nuzzles in his warmth, fainting from cold and exhaustion. Bear (the dog) keeps her warm until his human comes home. Garrett is in his late 20's, a recluse, growly, a bit temperamental, who just prefers his solitude, hating people in his personal space and growls at people to leave him alone. He is a veteran who just wants peace and quiet, meeting his twin brother Ace at Ace's bar, twice a month to catch up. He hates these outings, but his twin makes him, besides the twins promised their mom, whom they lost in high school, to look out for each other. They love their mother, and have a deep respect for women as a result. They are pretty different, because Ace is described as warm, friendly and has a way with being a bit more outgoing. He lives over his bar but wants to sell. (More on Ace later... this is Garretts' story). Garrett drives home and sees a woman curled up snuggled in Bear's fur. He sees her hair and skin white as snow, and she is cold as snow as well. Panicked for this mystery woman's well being, he lifts her in his arms gingerly and takes her in his cabin, respectfully taking her wet clothes off, without looking at her body, covers her in thick blankets and sets her in front of the fire to warm up. Bear lays beside her. Our hero gazes at what can only be an angel that fell from the sky, right in his arms. He will not let her go, and he wonders, what color are her eyes. Even without opening her eyes, or talking yet, she took every part of him. His heart, his soul and of course, only she will know his body just as she will experience intimacy for the first time with him, which is the sexiest and most romantic part of romance! She wakes up and they have instant chemistry. It almost felt electric as well as sweet. Her name is Winter, but she is Snow angel to him, and she prefers that nickname. This is only the beginning. The rest is them discovering one another, giving each other promises and truths about themselves. Both giving each other a bit of themselves that would make them feel vulnerable, but they are comfortable with each other, since they encourage each other to open up and confide secrets without judgement. Now THAT is communication goals when it comes to a couple! He teaches her that life with him and out of the cult is free, and she can do as she wishes, and she tells him that she wants to make him happy. They are attentive to each other's needs and respects boundaries. When he guesses that she suffered abuse at the hands of the men in the cult, he is full of rage, because for him, women are to be held in high regard and held up on a pedestal. Their story is so sweet, and the sex/intimacy they share is passionate and fiery, yet sweet and gentle at the same time, and that is because we feel the love they have for each other. I always say, that sex without love is just bodies grinding to completion without emotion, and that's it. Of course, when I read that he saved himself, and she was going to have her man untouched, belonging only to her, having never been with a woman before her, *sweet sigh* that made my heart soar in happiness! It is the gold standard for me in romance, and it is only fair really, when the heroine is a virgin, giving her body to him and him alone, she deserves a man that belongs entirely to her, experiencing his firsts with her and ONLY her. That is what had me enjoy the book so much more upon second reading. Yes, I read the book twice! My second read was an even better experience because I read it knowing it is a true DV! I mentioned in my list that this is a TRUE DV, and what I mean is it isn't ruined by a technicality that the guy is a virgin, but experienced intimacy in the past. That happened in the last book I read by a different author this week, and it made me upset that the hero was an 'experienced virgin'. DV is supposed to be both our hero and heroine gifting their firsts to each other and only to each other (not just fucking). It just gives us the beauty of a couple that never gave a part of their body to another before them, but saved it for the one and only love of their life. I am happy to say neither had any 'past' mentioned and I will not take it for granted in future. There is a rescue mission, to shut down the whole cult compound, with Garrett and Ace preparing for the take down. Both eager to obliterate the sorry excuses of men that abuse the women there. Winter is a crucial part of this rescue since she knows all the goings on in the compound. Of course there is conflict with the cultist (unwanted OM) who wants to claim Winter, only we know that our hero is a force to be reckoned with and of course ....save Libby! Libby is Winter's sister who has a limp, and Ace rescued her. This ends in a beautiful and heartwarming epilogue with our couple happily married with a growing family! Here are two of my favorite quotes on their status:
Quote (their first time), "Snow reaches for the button on my pants, but I stop her. I’m pleased that some of her shyness has faded away, but I need to make things clear before I take this further. Even if this kills me. But the last thing I want is for her to have any regrets. I want both of our first times to be special. I may not have known at the time that I was saving myself for her but the wait was worth it. Sure, I want to sink my cock into her virgin pussy, claim her for my own, but the long-term goal is to keep her permanently. I won’t do anything to fuck that up. “You know what is about to happen, Snow?” “Yes.” She licks her lips, tempting my resolve. “You told me sex was for marriage,” I remind her. I swore that regardless of how much I wanted her, I would wait. Even if I had to cut my dick off. “That’s what I was taught.” Snow peeks up at me through her lashes. “But I’m your girl. Those rules no longer apply to me. I get to pick.” end quote When I tell you that my heart soared when I read that! I sat up straight, genuinely reread that scene four of five times, and brought my hands to my chest, sporting a huge grin! It made me so happy that this momentous event was a first for both!
Quote (he expresses that only they will know each other intimately...swoon....I love that so much!), “I need you.” Her words come out breathy. “You have me.” I lean down, taking her mouth in a kiss as I give her exactly what she is asking for. The same way I plan to do for all eternity. I wish I could say that I will take my time, but the way her pussy is gripping me already has me close to orgasm. Listening to her little moans as I pump in and out of her is not helping. But I need our first orgasm to be together. I pick up the pace, her legs relaxing and dropping open more to welcome every thrust. It’s not long before she’s matching my movements, our bodies in a rhythm that each other will only ever know." end quote There is nothing more romantic, than a hero who is happy to have saved his body to gift it to one woman. That will always be the gold standard in romance for me!
If I had a tinsy knit pick, I wish that Garrett told Winter that she is his first. But I am so glad that he was. Just thought I would mention it, but it did not ebb my enjoyment of the story. I recommend this sweet novella. The heroine is so sweet, she is just a delight not to mention so brave to leave an abusive cult to get help for her sister. She went through hell, but she opened up to experiencing love and life. And Garrett is such a man's man! He is so growly, so alpha, so scowly (is that a word?) to EVERYONE except his Snow angel. To her he is a sweet, cinnamon roll, all gooey inside. Do yourselves a kindness and read it. It will bring you joy and leave all fans of one true love pensively dreaming of a love story like Garrett and Winter. My heart is full and happy! THANK YOU Lucy Darling for gifting us ANOTHER DV story! She has been giving us DV for the last few books and I hope she keeps this trope in ALL her future stories. You write them so well, and we need more virgin heroes! Now we NEED and will get next month, Ace and Libby's story. Ace is the outgoing twin, but he remembers seeing in a car a pair of the bluest eyes and his world shifted on it's axis. He tried to find this mystery woman but the vehicle is untraceable. He lives on the floor above his bar because it is only him, and he doesn't need a home. He imagines a home to be for a family, whom he doesn't have, except for his brother. A pair of blue eyes haunt him as he thinks who it might be....we know it is Libby and I rub my hands in anticipation. Garrett sends Ace a picture of Winter, explaining that they look alike and have the same features except Libby has blue eyes. Ace sees the picture, very similar to his mystery woman, seeing the unmistakable resemblance, and sets off to save her. Now, this mission to save Libby became personal. Ace sets off in the snow to find her. I cannot wait! *jumping up and down like Agnes from 'Despicable Me' when she sees a big fluffy unicorn at the fair*, and I am asking, begging for Lucy Darling to make Ace and Libby's story DV! Pretty please with double cherries on top!! *giving the adorable face Agnes makes when she asks Gru to read her a bed time story* Come on! You can't say no to that adorable face! *pointing at my icon* Thank you Lucy Darling! Happy reading everyone!
My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.
Winter’s family is in a cult, she has been promised to their prophet who she doesn’t want to marry. Her sister Libby and her come up with a plan for her to escape and get help to free Libby. (Libby can’t escape with her because she has a pretty bad limp, her father pushed her and she broke her leg. Being in the cult they did not take her to the hospital to have her break set so she suffers from pain and a limp. It would have slowed down the escape especially since it’s winter and it’s snowing pretty hard.) Winter makes it to a remote cabin, a snow storm has moved in and she’s exhausted and so cold. No one answers the door but a big dog comes and curls up with her to keep her warm once she passes out. Garrett is ex military, he has moved to the mountains for peace. His twin, Ace lives in the small town at the base of the mountain and runs the local bar. Ace is the more outgoing twin, Garett is the grumpy twin. Returning home after seeing Ace he finds his dog Bear protecting a small figure on his porch. When he sees Winter she unconscious, he brings her in and tries to warm her up. She’s the most beautiful woman he has ever seen, he calls her Snow. He’s immediately protective of her and once he pieces together that she from the cult he’s heard of he vows to help get her sister out. He contacts his old military buddies to help dig up info on the cult and the leaders. While they wait out the snow storm things get pretty hot inside the cabin, their chemistry is hot and they are so sweet to one another, their first time is sexy. Dual virgins! His brother is tasked with doing a little reconnaissance work to keep eyes on Winter’s sister and the leaders. This works in Ace’s favor because as we get to see in the next book, his love story, with Libby. He saw Libby months ago while she and Winter had accompanied their dad to town. His one look at her had him knowing she was his one. But he couldn’t find her. Imagine his surprise when he sees a picture of Winter to be able to identify Libby, and is told Libby looks like her but with blue eyes. Ace finds Libby and takes her from her home. He lets Garrett know he has her. While Ace is rescuing Libby the prophet and two others have tracked Winter to Garrett’s house. Garrett kills the two others in the woods and when he enters the house he see the prophet holding a gun on Winter. Garrett kills him too. I love yous and a proposal. Epilogue years later with Winter pregnant again. They have two daughters, one they adopted when the cult collapsed and one that’s biologically theirs. She’s having another girl which makes their two daughters very happy.

He’s a former military and she ends up on is doorstep when she’s escaping her cult, because they want to make her the third wife of one of the men there.
He falls instantly, he’s super cute and grumpy.
Also loved the second book about her sister.
- Dual V - No owd - Some omd with her fiancé (she never wanted to marry him, but because of the cult the women didn’t have a choice) - Age gap
Lucy Darling is an absolute must for romance readers. What she packs into a short story is incredible. Romance, instant love, fabulous characters, especially the female leads they are relatable, likeable and normal.
She doesn’t give me a rundown of pointless makeup and hairstyles that seems prevalent in a lot of books lately.
I love it! And I can’t wait for his brother and her sisters book! Very romantic, insta love but there’s a lot of funny moments, She is a really interesting character
This novella tells a sweet story. Winter is a damsel in distress. In the middle of a cold night, she's rescued by this big fellow, a reclusive man who finds his future in the shape of a little snow angel in need of love and protection. I'm sold.
It's a cute story with an easy narration. The girl has lacked tenderness, education, even modern commodities her whole life. He's the first man to ever take real care of her, someone who wants to give her the world and see her happy. That's heartwarming.
It's a cosy read if you like instalove, some steamy lovemaking, a dark hero possessed with avenging fury to destroy his beloved's enemies and a heroine with a sister to save. I especially liked that he uses his considerable skills to help her cause and that he shows real concern for his woman and her well being. There's an animal too. Love that.
I enjoyed the epilogue that reflects such sweet family bonding and community. I'm happy to wait for the sister's story.
Creo que la historia tenía potencial para brillar y ser más de lo que fue. Supongo que todo radica en la poca extensión que tiene, no entiendo el apuro de algunos autores para acabar un libro. Todo el tema de la secta me dieron ganas de leer algo similar. Veremos.

CRITICISM Honestly…this was bleh. Saved only by the spice, and even that was like a barely.
Lucy, I’ve read the sweetest obsession duo many times, and I love it, along with many of your other works. What I want to know is who the hell told you to stop using conjunctions and contractions? The stilted flow of the diction in your books now is so distracting that it detracts from the story. I think I may have said this in my review for the last book of yours I read, but the books read almost as if someone translated them to English from a foreign language, and they did a great job if that’s the case, but the flow of colloquial language was totally lost in translation. If it’s an editor doing you dirty like this…pls breakup lol.
*May contain SPOILERS* Second book by Lucy Darling that I loved and would read again. Where are the Garretts and the Calebs irl? He is obsessed with her from the moment he saw her in his porch when he got home. I loved how Bear loved her too from the moment he saw her arrive at the door, that first interactions was beautiful, how he made her feel calm and she ended hugging Bear for safety. His whimpers because he was worried about her was so cute. I loved that combination: an awesome alpha man and an awesome dog!! She was living in a cult that treated women like possessions, it is mentioned but not described in details which I liked. It might be a trigger for some people. I love the patience he had with her, knowing how she lived and letting her learn and explore with freedom. Letting her know that she can say and do whatever she wants without anyone restricting her (like how she lived before). That he will not hit her ever (he wasn’t the men in the cult that hit their women). It was a healing story. Garrett adores her, and their babies. And did whatever it took to keep them safe. I would’ve loved more interactions with Bear. And the story has the other half of the story in Book 2: Ace (Garrett’s brother) and Libby (Winter’s sister). I’m heading that way now!!
SAFE - Both virgins!! - age gap: 10 years approximately - ow/om: nope - separation/breakups: no - cheating/sharing: nope - possible triggers: the cult description of how they treated women - HEA: yes
Winter escaped their cult and ended up passing out in front of Garrett's cabin. After he helped her, she asked him to assist her in saving her sister, who had been left behind.
Hello everyone, I'm back! I wanted to do it earlier but I was quite busy, but reading quietly, so in this month of December I come to recommend one of the many romantic stories I've been reading.
A sweet novella, a bit of drama from her cult, but our hero knows what to do to protect his girl, I love reading when a hero who never thought of marrying or falling in love then falls so hard when he meets his destiny.
I can't wait to read Libby's story, I'm really biting my nails to find out what happened to her and her love interest.
Winter lives in the cult "Heavens Temple" where women are treated cruelly and were married against their will at a young age. She runs away to get help, but has to leave her younger sister behind. She runs straight into a blizzard and her only chance to survive is a cabin in the forest. Garrett is ex- military, a total grump that loves his peace and quiet. but everything changes when he finds Winter on his porch. They fall hard and fast for each other and Garrett vows to keep her and her sister safe, after he rescues her. Instalove, age gap(she is 20, he is in his late 20s), sweet, romantic, steamy, with an interesting storyline and totally safe (I think it's dual virgins-I read it as a DV story😏😏) with an awesome HEA😍😍😍😍
FMC: Winter MMC: Garrett Tropes: contemporary romance, novella, trauma history, instalove, possessive mmc Spice Rating: 2 Series: Yes | Interconnected Standalone - Book One of the Fate Series Cliffhanger: No
Winter has escaped her family and the cult she grew up in. It was a necessity after being told she was set to be a wife for one of the men, something her and her sister would not allow to happen. After escaping she stumbles across Garrett’s place. The two fall quickly for each other and due to his past, Garrett and his brother are the perfect people to help Winter and her sister.
A cozy insta-love story to read while cuddled up under the blankets.
Winter needs a hero! She leaves her home… her sister… the one person she loves in this world in hopes of finding themselves help. She stumbles upon Garrett who is in lust at first sight thankfully. She is too, but she seems a little more subtle about it. Sweet couple who will pull at your heartstrings and have you rooting for them. I wish it was longer, but at the same time, the story was perfect!
I kind of loved this story. It was sweet but steamy and entertaining. The instalove was in full force and smoothed things over that ordinarily would have taken some time. The nickname worked well and it was cute that she wanted him to use it. Garrett was grumpy and Winter was sunshine even with all she had been through. I loved that Garrett kept his promises. The happily ever after made me smile and laugh. I recommend reading this book.
Oh how I love a Lucy Darling insta love.🥰 The author has a way with making grumpy men fall to their knees when they see their one, and Garrett was no different when he laid eyes on Winter. This was a fast and sweet romance, and I can’t wait to see them rescue Winters sister in the next story. These types of books are my guilty pleasure reads and they’re great for binge reading.
I love instalove/love at first sight. Books like this just make me happy. Winter was so brave running away from all she’s ever known. And Garrett, the grump, just needed a little snow angel magic to make his life perfect. Add to that an adorable, giant dog named Bear and I am a happy wintertime camper. I cannot wait to read about Ace and Libby. So excited.
Winter/ Snow has been raised in a cult and is finally escaping. Getting lost in a snow storm she ends up on Garret’s front porch with his dog Bear protecting her. Garret takes one look and it’s instalove for him. It’s not long before she loves him too but her cult may never let her go. Fast paced steamy hot read with intrigue and a great couple.
Garrett is not a people person but when he discovers his own little snow angel on his front porch he might just make an exception for her!! Winter is trying to get help for her sister and herself, they need to escape from their family and the cult they live in. Will Garrett be able to help Winter and her sister?
This is the first book, but not the last book by this author that I’ve read, and I loved it. The storyline ran the gamut of emotions intertwining the past with the present. I enjoyed his fierce protectiveness, his protective dog, and his open honesty, exactly what she needed. Loved their epilogue.
I’m pretty sure I’ve read this story already. Though publish date is yesterday. Anyway, story was fast moving, little angst between the main couple and a sweet ending
