As an avid fan of Jody Hedlund, I have read nearly all of the dozens of books she has written so when I heard that she was continuing this series with Sunrise Publishing, I jumped at the chance to read this book.
This was by far my favorite of all the Bride Ship books (both the original series and the spinoff).
The characters were all so real and their emotions made a lot of sense. This also came off as a bit of a 'beauty and the beast' retelling, which I have not seen in any of the author's books that aren't YA.
I also really liked the friendship between Sage and Augusta. I wish that Augusta had her own book, but I doubt that will happen.
As a civil engineer, I really appreciate that the author did her research on Jackson's career as a civil engineer. I could definably understand why Jackson acted as he did throughout the story. A staggering number of bridges collapsed during the era when this book was set, around 25%. (Yes, that is a true number.) Whether a designer had one collapse or not, I cannot imagine the stress that would put on someone, knowing how common it was.
I think you're probably tired of me rambling on about nerdy stuff so I'll just say, read the book.

Will the bounds of class and propriety, the fear from past mistakes, and the frustration of their imperfections create an impassable divide between Jackson and Sage? Or will they find a way to overcome their differences and trust not only in their love for each other, but their own innate strength and resilient fortitude? You’ll have to find out for yourself in this beautifully well executed forbidden romance.
A historically rich, emotionally complex, and tender story of romance, strength, second chances, and new beginnings. This story of transformation, forgiveness, self-awareness, and courage sweeps you away to the beauty of a time and place far away from our modern reality.
I loved how Jody was able to portray two characters who have genuine struggles and have made mistakes, they’re human. And yet they are able to not only find strength and comfort in each other, but they each grow and learn how they individually have the tenacity and courage to stand on their own feet. It’s a beautiful example of balancing the importance of being strong on your own, and yet not always having to because you have someone by your side always willing and ready to hold you up.
This love story builds from a gentle awakening for both Jackson and Sage to their undeniable chemistry and finally to their much deserved happily ever after. From the very first chapter you’re sucked into this story and fall in love with the wonderful characters that it has. And of course this book has all of the fantastic sizzling chemistry we’ve come to know, love, and expect from Jody while also keeping things clean. I genuinely don’t know of any other author who harmonizes these two aspects so well. And while Jackson and Sage are attracted to each other, they also are able to build their relationship on many other things, which overall creates a beautiful story of redemption, love, and connection.
This book just reaffirms my belief that Jody Hedlund could write a grocery list and I would gladly read it; her books are that amazing, every single one, every single time.
If you love stunning and illuminating historical fiction with that perfect dash of swoony romance then make sure to grab your copy as quickly as you can and then be prepared to be swept away.

As an avid fan of Jody Hedlund, I was beyond excited to be chosen for an advanced copy of His Perfect Bride! There were so many pieces to this story that kept me unable to put it down because I wanted more! I loved the transformation and growth of the relationship between Sage and Jackson-their connection emotionally and physically and their willingness to not allow the hurts of their past to influence their future! I also loved the reappearance of characters from previous books in this series and the mysterious disappearance of Augusta and her recognition of the attraction between the Beauty and the Beast. She was the master weaver of their outcome!

His Perfect Bride is a must read, as well as the first two books in the series!

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairy tale and Jody Hedlund is one of my favorite authors, so I knew I would love His Perfect Bride too. I liked that this story was different enough from other Beauty and the Beast retellings to be unique, but retained the elements of the classic story I love so much. It was also so fun to see some past characters from Hedlund’s novels make a reappearance, and I’m excited for the next book in this series. Although His Perfect Bride can stand alone, there is an unresolved plot point that will be continued in the next book, but it is not integral to this story. If you enjoy historical romance, I can’t recommend Jody’s books enough! 4.5/5 stars

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Sage Rhodes leaves Manchester, England, to escape her ex-fiancé, who is about to remarry. During a chance meeting, she is offered a position as a lady’s maid to Augusta Lennox, who is traveling to Vancouver Island to visit her brother. Sage’s brother, Jackson, is scruffy, grumpy, and seemingly unappealing. Or is he?

Both Jackson and Sage are perfectionists who get in their own way—Sage believes she is unworthy of love, while Jackson fears he will only hurt those around him. Despite Sage’s vow to remain a spinster and Jackson’s hardened heart, their kisses are undeniably steamy. You’ll want to fan yourself as much as Sage does just thinking about them.

I really liked Augusta. She is progressive in her thinking, refuses to bow to the pressures of her social class, and values people for what’s in their hearts.

Faith plays a subtle role in the book, woven between the lines. The underlying message is clear—only God is perfect, and striving for perfection will only lead to losing ourselves. There are only two direct Bible references, though they are not quoted verbatim.

This is a great read for closed-door romance fans who want a touch of faith and a whole lot of passionate kisses.

I’ve been a huge fan of Jody Hedlund’s Bride Ships series since the first one year ago. When I learned Sunrise Publishing was continuing the series, I was giddy with excitement. Now three books in, having just finished His Perfect Bride, I’m more in love with this series than ever.

Two perfectly imperfect characters collide in this beautiful story with Beauty and the Beast flair- organized perfectionist Sage and the chaotic, creative engineer Jackson. Two different classes, two completely opposite personalities, yet they fit together in a completely improbable way. Hurts from the past, and worries about the future make a relationship seem like a fairy tale. Yet… with their romance guided by Jody Hedlund’s talented pen, there’s not a bridge that can’t be crossed.

Oh, I just loved this story. Loved the themes dealing perfection, especially how Sage learns being perfect is God’s job and being perfect isn’t what she should be striving for. What else did I love? Augusta being a delightful mastermind. The Sage/Willow reunion. All the sweet attraction and chemistry between Sage and Jackson, and their emotional connection that even surpassed their physical one. The signature Hedlund spice that is oh so good but still stays clean! And seeing Pastor Abe again was such a nice bonus!

I received a complementary copy of this book from the author and publisher. I was not asked to leave a positive review. My opinions are my own.

I will admit I stayed up way too late reading this book. I enjoyed the character development that adds a lot of depth for a 280 page book. The slight beauty and the beast references were fun but didn’t take over the story and didn’t try to force the plot. What a great clean historical romantic read. The only thing I wanted was for it to be longer because it was so good, so now I’m just waiting for the next book in the series!

Thank you to Sunrise Publishing and the author for the ARC of His Perfect Bride by Jody Hedlund. All opinions are my own.

His Perfect Bride is book three in the Bride Ships: New Voyages series. It can be read as a standalone, but there is a small part of the book that includes characters from the first book in this series.

I loved this book so much! I stayed up late multiple nights to read it because I didn’t want to put it down. This story had characters who had gone through such difficult trials, and I loved seeing how they grew to love and accept themselves instead of holding onto past mistakes.

Sage was such a resilient character with all the loss and hardship that she had experienced, yet she had the courage to leave her family behind in search of a life that would help support them financially. I loved that she could see the best in others and wasn’t quick to judge them based on first impressions.

Jackson was so brooding to begin with, but I really felt for him. He was hurting due to past mistakes, and he had to learn to give himself grace. I loved his passion for engineering and eventually his love for Sage.

The romance in this book had me squealing! Jackson tried to hold himself back for so long, but he was completely gone for Sage. I loved all the moments that he just couldn't keep his eyes off of her. There was so much pining, and so many great kissing scenes! I also just loved how well these two complemented each other. They built each other up, and they were better together.

Jackson’s sister Augusta was such a great side character. I loved how she treated Sage. She didn’t look down on her or consider her beneath her even with their class differences. Her scheming was also a lot of fun.

There were some light themes of faith throughout the story that I appreciated as well. I loved that the characters tried their best to be honorable even when they found themselves in sticky situations.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book!

While reading this book, I was once again transported to a time gone by and the ever bustling, and changing scenery it was creating on Vancouver Island. The thrill of growth and new freedom and land. And the possibility of so much more than had ever been dreamed of for many. Sage is one of those dreamers who is longing for something better. Especially after a broken engagement. Maybe she can find a way to get from England to Vancouver Island, find her sister, find hope for her family, and find healing from her heartache.

I loved Sage's tenacity and determination as the book opened up. She was not going to give up until she could find her way across the ocean. When the opportunity is standing right in front of her, she'll have to grab it quickly or be left in England. Her spunk and mettle serve her well as she is faced with a whole new world, and a somewhat broken host.

Jackson has known extreme heartache due to one of his designs failing and unfortunately causing the death of several people. He's a grumpy beast of a recluse and now he has to play host to his sister who came for a visit with her lady's maid, Sage.

I loved the forced proximity trope for these two, as well as the Beauty and the Beast vibes. Sage is such a fun and spunky character! I loved her ability to stand up to Jackson and his coming to find healing in his own right as his sister and Sage help him find hope.

The chemistry and sweet romance will have you invested in this love story! You'll be laughing and reading as quickly as you can to see what new adventure these two will be facing. Going on a backwoods adventure and having to pretend you're married is not quite the adventure Sage thought she'd find herself having. But it's perfect! I loved how good Jackson was to Sage. He was able to realize that his heart wasn't stone and that when Sage came into his life, he truly understood what it meant to love someone. Be still my heart!!! You're going to love their story so much!

I can't wait to see what comes next in this series! Whatever it is, I can already trust that it's going to be good. Jody Hedlund is an amazing author, who is able to portray true human emotions and depth of character. I love the journey she takes us readers on, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Content: Clean. Some kisses and sweet spice! This is a Christian fiction novel. There is mild peril in the location and adventures along the way but nothing graphic.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. This is book 3 in its series but I didn’t feel lost at all, it works well as a stand-alone. This is a Christian historical romance. Taking a ship over from England to Canada our heroine is employed as a ladies maid. Her employer goes to visit her brother who turns out to be a hurting man who has become a recluse. In this Beauty and the Beast retelling, a lot goes on. With a slight thread of suspense our characters, who are opposites and from different social classes, end up with a fake marriage and a forced proximity trope. I enjoyed exploring this section of Canada when the new colony is being developed and seeing how things work out at that time. The bridge ship idea was interesting. This was a just kisses romance but the sweet heat and swoon was high! 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

I love Sage and Jackson! Sage finds herself on a journey with Augusta and is looking forward to a new life in the New World. She is prepared to remain a spinster and serve as a lady’s maid to earn the wages for her family to join her. She is also excited to be reunited with her sister, Willow. What she is not ready and prepared for is Jackson, Augusta’s brother. I love Augusta’s energy and willingness to serve so many. Jackson is not quite so appreciative when those efforts on turned on him. Recovery from a tragic accident, Jackson has hidden himself away and starts to resemble more beast than man. He is a brilliant engineer in the throes of grief. Sage comes in an although she brings order, she turns his world upside down. Sage is his perfect match! I love how she sees him, truly sees him, and challenges him. Jackson falls hard and fast and it was so sweet to watch them try to resist the pull towards one another. Everyone else can plainly see what they are both too afraid to admit. I adored how they were thrust together and despite all the circumstances, clicked perfectly. The romance is full of chemistry and tension yet remains clean and sweet. Both are struggling to deal with their imperfections, not realizing that those are they very things that make them so perfect for one another. I highly recommend this for those who enjoy beauty and the beast, opposites attract type stories.

Despite the repetitive inner dialog, I quite enjoyed the book up to Chapter 16 (58%). From there the story became boring and I struggled to remain involved. The sisters "kidnapping" was weak. I liked that Jackson was different and a little quirky. Liked Sage strong character but she was almost too perfect. Happy she found her sister. I looked forward to reading this book but unfortunately, it just didn't work for me.

heavy on physical attraction

I was disappointed in the book. While the way she wrote the characters navigating everything technically fell within biblical bounds of marriage, I felt her descriptions bordered on erotica and I regret reading the book. Not what I expected from a supposedly Christian author.

Jody Hedlund is always brilliant and His Perfect Bride is no exception. Sage, makes her way from poverty to true love and security. Jody’s strong female characters are inspiring and you fall in love with them almost immediately. I wonder every time I read a Jody Hedlund book, how she comes up with new stories that are completely different from her last release. I can’t wait to get my hands on any new release by her, and suggest you clear your calendar before you start reading since you won’t be able to leave Jackson, Sage and Augusta until their story is completely revealed,

His Perfect Bride is a cute and fun read.

I really liked both the main characters as well as the side characters.

I loved the time period this story took place in. Both main characters were a little broken, but the chemistry they had was adorable and undeniable.

I was intrigued by how well the female main character was at organizing and how it gave the main male character a way to get to know and fall in love with her.

I liked how there was a little bit of mystery and playacting as a married couple. Too cute.

I am so happy that the fmc found her sister and how the mmc found his sister and how that came about. I am glad they all got their happily ever afters.

His Perfect Bride is the third book in the series written by Jody Hedlund. This is the sixth book I have read by her, and I feel like I have very consistently gotten the same feeling. His Perfect Bride was a great Beauty and the Beast retelling.

The character development was great. I loved that we got to see Sage’s story. Seeing Sage and Willow reconnect in Canada was such a fun storyline. Seeing Jackson Lennox pull himself out of his depression and rebuild his life after everything seemed to fall apart.

The setting and storyline were perfect. I loved that this series can be read as a standalone, but I am enjoying checking in with past characters and seeing how they are doing. I love that it is set in Canada. Being Canadian, and visited Vancouver Island, I can totally picture the setting.

The romance was good. I know that when I read a Jody Hedlund book sometimes, I might have a few pages that make me feel a little bit uncomfortable. That is just my personal preference for spice or lack thereof of spice that I appreciate. There was nothing too over the top. There was definitely some passion described. But nothing too much.

Jody Hedlund did a great job intertwining faith throughout the book.

A little adventure.
A little bit of painful pasts.
A little bit of mystery.
A hefty helping of chemistry.
A whole heaping helping of kisses.

It’s a perfect recipe.

As usual Jody weaves an exciting tale filled with the usual mystery and chemistry. This one includes heartbreak in her past, and guilt and loss of confidence in his.
Together Sage and Jackson learn to look at their pasts with grace, to learn from their pasts and move forward in healing (and in love together).

Fill with Jody’s usual amount of kissing and tension this book will delight her loyal readers, and those new ones looking for a historical read with tension and sizzling chemistry but without the spice.

Thank you for the gifted copy, and the chance to read and review early!

His Perfect Bride, set on Vancouver Island in 1863, is an engaging addition to the Bride Ships: New Voyages series. It was great to catch up with Willow, Caleb, and Pastor Abe, carryover characters from the previous books in the series. Willow’s sister Sage is the heroine of this story, and the brief reunion between Willow and Sage is heartwarming. The compelling plot, packed with emotion and drama, kept me eagerly turning the pages and invested in the outcome. The relationship between perfectionist lady’s maid Sage and creative, wealthy engineer Jackson is a perfect example of “opposites attract”! I love the way their relationship unfolds as the attraction grows! The Beauty and the Beast vibe enriches the plot and character development. I appreciate the faith lesson on the futility of striving to be perfect. I love this story and highly recommend it and the series. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. NOTE: Even though this is the third book in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone.

This was the perfect story!

Augusta is such a sweet lady and I loved how she took Sage under her wings.

Jackson was the grumpy beast in the story but you could see that he had a compassionate side underneath all of that hair!

It was interesting to see the way romantic relationships happened long ago. How different it was that the couples couldn't even touch until they were married!

Thanks to the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

I received an ARC copy of this book. An intriguing story of finding oneself while also finding love. Sage and Jackson’s story to happiness is not your typical love story. A newly hired and trained lady’s maid and a scatterbrained aristocrat who is wallowing in self pity, it is anything but love at first sight. When they allow the lines of society to be crossed and they start to spend time together their love starts to grow. I enjoyed the different character of Jackson in this story. It made for a funny and interesting trip to love, especially when they set out on a trip to find his sister who they think is kidnapped. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to what comes next.

This was such a great story! Jody Hedlund’s books are magical and she has a way of transporting you right into her world. This time to Vancouver Island in 1863 for the third addition to the Brides Ship series.

His Perfect Bride follows Sage and Jackson. Sage is such a strong and wonderful character who is desperate to find a way to provide for her family. When she gets offered the position of becoming a lady maid for Augusta, with good pay, she knows she must take it even though it means she can’t take her family with her at the moment. She also wants to escape seeing her ex-fiance David who broke her heart and is now engaged to someone else. Jackson is Augusta’s brother and Augusta is making a journey with Sage to visit him, but they find Jackson in a bad place after his bridge suspension project failed and unfortunately killed the workers who were building it. Jackson is unruly, angry, and a bit of a recluse who is constantly working to fix his past mistakes.

I really loved how Sage and Jackson naturally found a way towards each other. Sage took an interest in Jackson’s work and could see how talented he was and how his mind worked. Deep down Jackson is actually kind and generous and finds himself consumed with thoughts of Sage. There is definitely an attraction on both sides, but both Jackson and Sage have to work through their pasts as neither thinks they are good enough for the other. I loved the tension and the sizzling chemistry between them that Jody Hedlund is an expert at creating. There is also a bit of a mystery happening here; plus Augusta playing matchmaker that added to the plot and made this book perfection. Although Sage and Jackson were from different social classes it never seemed to matter and true love prevailed. This story had me turning the pages and invested from beginning to end. I can’t wait for the next book in the series coming soon!

Read if you enjoy:
- Forced Proximity
- Beauty and the Beast vibes
- He falls first
- Mild Christian Themes

It's so good to be back visting Vancouver Island! You meet new faces, but also visit friends and family members. You can read this as a standalone, but I would highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series with book one, Finally His Bride. Jody crafts a story that I just want to keep reading.

Bookish love for His Perfect Bride ...
- Willow's sister, Sage as her story!
- Beauty and a Beast ... or should I say Moose ;) :D
- Chaos and Organization
- Catching up with Willow and Caleb
- Faith Moments
- Moving forward after heartbreak

I can't wait for the next installment of Bride Ships: New Voyages!

These historical stories about young women traveling to another country to seek marriage to better their life or help their families out, is so fascinating. The courage and strength they must have had to take on this journey! Sage knows she needs to follow in her sister's footsteps and she decides to try and find a bride ship for the journey. Not having any luck, she finally gets an offer she cannot refuse, a lady is needing someone to travel with her as a lady's maid so Sage accepts the position. Off they head to Vancouver Island where Sage meets Augusta's brute of a brother. Not feeling welcomed, she does what she can to try to ask around about where Willow might be. She knows once she finds her sister, she can head her way and not take up anymore of Augusta's generosity. Information comes forward about where Willow can be found, but Augusta isn't well and send Jackson to accompany Sage in her place. But when they return, Augusta is missing and once again they venture off, following the clues left behind to figure out who took her and why. But along the way, their relationship is called into question and they are now left with another dilemma. Was this Augusta's plan all along and can the two hold back their feelings any longer? I really loved this story and enjoyed the characters and struggle Jackson had to work through. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. In order to save her life, this beauty will have to marry the beast.

His Perfect Bride is an absolute gem of a historical romance! Set against the breathtaking 19th-century Canadian landscape, this story beautifully weaves together themes of redemption, adventure, and love. I was completely swept away by Sage and Jackson’s journey—their slow-burn chemistry, emotional growth, and the undeniable Beauty and the Beast vibes made this such a captivating read.

As a BC resident, I loved seeing familiar locations like Vancouver Island, Hope, Yale, Lytton, and the Thompson and Fraser Rivers woven into the story. It’s rare to read a book where I’ve actually visited the places mentioned, and it made the story feel even more vivid and special.

Sage’s strength and determination were so inspiring, and Jackson’s evolution from a reclusive hero to someone open to love was heartwarming. Their connection unfolded naturally, with both tender and swoon-worthy moments. Jody Hedlund’s storytelling is rich, immersive, and filled with just the right touch of romance.

This was my first Jody Hedlund book, but it definitely won’t be my last! If you’re a fan of historical fiction with vivid settings, dynamic characters, and an unforgettable love story, you need to pick up His Perfect Bride.

Oh this is such a sweet novel! I really enjoyed the romance story between Sage and Jackson. The Bride Ship series is all about girls leaving England to make a better life and find a husband. This one had a unique twist on several tropes that made the story engaging and romantic.

Here are a few of my favorite aspects:
- The class differences
- England to Vancouver Island change
- Meddling sister
- Forced proximity
