Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this novel in return for an honest review
If you like to read NA books filled with overused tropes, then this is the book for you.
We've got the frustrating misunderstandings that keep getting in the way of the two main characters getting together. Like, I understand that you can't have them together form page one because then there would be no way to sustain the novel, but this was ridiculous. Especially because we saw both points of view, so we knew the explanations for everything they saw/overheard.
And then we've got the bitchy love rival, who's not actually given a personality other than bitchiness, because apparently women can't be friends - they're only competition. I prefer my novels without the misogyny, thanks.
Harley was annoying - she was from a lot of money, but kept on saying how money wasn't important, and it didn't matter. This comes from someone who will never have to worry about meeting ends meet or earning a living wage in her life. She says she's never asked for a thing in her life, but owns four horses and has never had a job. She complains about the opportunities her mum wants to give her - going to university, living abroad, etc. I know her mother's intentions might've not been great, but Harley was never thankful for a single thing she had, and made it seem like if you cared about money, you were shallow.
Wyatt was all 'holier than thou' and seemed a bit judgemental to me. I didn't like his possessiveness over Harley, like the way he blew up when talking on the phone to Collin, or the way he shamed her for sleeping with other people when they were apart. He was mean about Dorcas and the girl that Truman was dating. He just annoyed me, all of the time.
The phrasing in this novel could sometimes be a little bit weird, also. I wouldn't say it was badly written, so much as just in need of an editor, maybe. There were also a fair few typos, so if this is something that annoys you, then maybe this isn't the book for you. I also felt that the first part of the novel was an awful lot of recounting what had already happened - how they fell in love the first time. It was a bit boring to read, as the style made it feel like this was all just background for when we got to the main action.
There were some moments of nice romance, but I never really felt connected to the characters or the storyline. I thought the novel was a bit all over the place, if I'm honest. I've given it two stars because it's not the worst book I've read this week, so there's always that.

Finally a 5! This story was so beautifully done. I adored the love that existed between Wyatt and Harley. And Collin was quite the hero. I loved, loved, loved this book.

I don't think I've ever detested a heroine as much as I detested Harley's weak, simpering, entitled self. This case of 'poor little rich girl' garnered no sympathy from me and I was extremely annoyed with her lack of personality. The romance between Harley and Wyatt was too unbelievable to be true. And this book was too long with pages and pages of unnecessary drama. If only the main characters had any type of maturity or independence. Ah well, shame on me for thinking an Amazon freebie would be worth the time. Regardless, I somehow managed to finish this book and will absolutely NOT be reading any more of the series.

I really loved this book and found out later that is was Jamie Magee's first adult novel. Wyatt and Harley fall so love when they are teens and then Harley's mother tears them apart. Years of misunderstandings and dirty dealings from an absolute b**chy rival keep them apart. Fate however takes things into her own hands and literally throws them together. Harley's father Garrett was one of my favorite characters. He wanted Harley to figure things out for herself but I got the feeling that if she or Wyatt for that matter had pushed their love a little harder when they were teens he would have stepped in and allowed them to be together.
The truth is they both needed to grow up and figure out life before they could figure out their relationship. By doing that they are able to deal with everything a little better as adults even if they both still need a little guidance from their parents. Jamie Magee has created characters that could be your friends or neighbors. They remind me a lot of some of the friends that I grew up with. They are real and even though they are flawed they are perfect in their own ways.

This was Jamie's first adult book and she nailed it.
Wyatt and Harley as teenagers was like reliving my own crushes when I was a teen. Oh, my gosh. It was exactly on point. I remember the sneaking, all of it. I enjoyed that more than anything else in the book. It was my absolute favorite thing. So swoon-worthy, so sweet and innocent but not innocent. Loved it.
When they were ripped apart...I hurt more than I thought I was going to. It killed me. Especially with all the bits right after that.
Wyatt is definitely a sweet, southern gentlemen. He was awesome to read. He fought for her, he was jealous and wasn't afraid to show it because that's what southern boys are. You don't mess with their woman. He was sweet and vulnerable. He would put Harley in her place and let her know when she was being really wrong about something. That's what a woman needs, and vice-versa. That's what makes a great couple.
They were a great couple that balanced each other out once they got passed all the past crap that they had to wade through.
Awesome story, Mrs. Magee!! I enjoyed it like mad!

I loved this book; from the first chapter and the first glimpse I got of Harley and Wyatt’s feelings for each other I was a goner. This is a story of first love between two teenagers that has grown over time and is a lovely reminder of all the emotions, worries and angst that can cause. It is very much a Romeo and Juliet kind of romance with the interfering family ideals that get between these young lovers.
Harley is a young girl caught between two worlds; her family are uber wealthy living in New York where her mother is in her element and hell bent on styling Harley for her role as a socialite. However, Harley is more at home, and herself, when spending her summers with her horse at the home of the Doran family, Willowhaven Farms, where Wyatt’s mother Camille trains Harley and her horse in exchange for her summer boarding. We meet Harley in her third summer at Willowhaven which she feels may well be her last year at the farm and as such she feels she is ready to take the last step with Wyatt.
Wyatt Doran is a dish, seriously Jamie had me with Wyatt from the off even if he was just a 15 year old; I loved him from the offset. He is a brilliant and gifted horseman but has an ambition to be a fire-fighter. He is hopelessly in love with Harley and knows that their relationship could cost his family dearly so they keep their love secret from everyone around them. He gets Harley in a way no one else does and has a deeper understanding of her fears for her future, her elderly father’s health and her need to conform to her mother’s demands in order to retain her freedom at the farm and protect the Doran family yet his main desire is for Harley to just be able to be herself.
Sadly their affair is exposed in the most unfair of timing and Harley’s nasty mother tears them apart from each other with threats to ruin the Doran family. Even though while reading you sensed this coming, and it is a dread all the time while reading, it really broke my heart for the two of them to be so unfairly parted. The events that followed their parting especially for Wyatt were heartbreaking too. There are the inevitable bad timings and misconceptions that push them further apart for too many years until fate steps in.
As the series title suggests Wyatt achieves his ambition to be a fire-fighter and when Station 32 respond to a road accident Harley is brought back into his life. But has too much time passed for them and has Harley moved on with the kind of suitor her mother prefers? Wyatt is determined to fight harder for Harley this time around thinking he has more than her family to fight this time but he comes to find all they ever had to do was stand up for what they wanted.
I hope with the lack of an epilogue to this story that means we get to see more of Harley and Wyatt in the future as I understand the next book in the series is the story of another character from this book which I am also really looking forward to.

Impulsion was the epitome of what I love about New Adult/Romance/Cowboys...I could go on. The story begins as Harley, a wealthy seventeen-year old, is wrapping up her third summer at an equestrian training farm in the south. Wyatt, the trainer's oldest son, is madly in love with Harley, and they have had a secret love affair the entire time they've known one another. Harley's parents unexpectedly show up during the night, weeks before scheduled, and Harley and Wyatt's relationship is discovered. Harley's demon of a mother rips the two of them apart, yanking her back into the hoity-toity New York world that she despises, destroying both her own, and Wyatt's lives.
Years later, when they're unexpectedly thrown back together, Wyatt and Harley decide to see if what they had as teenagers was real, or just the heat of the moment.
I LOVE stories where young love is rekindled! It makes it so much sweeter, knowing that what the couple had was real, true, and strong.
Wyatt was a great Hero - he was extremely strong and a true southern gentleman. His love of Harley really shown through when he was forced to live without her for a few years. I really enjoyed Harley, and her life's complexities. Although the majority of us do not know her family's lifestyle firsthand, I could understand her need for her father's name to be kept in-tact and unspoiled. Harley's father, Garrett was one of my favorite characters. The love he had for his daughter spoke volumes. Although I liked that he had a way with words and wanted Harley to read the meaning of them and learn through them herself, I really feel like if he'd just been more up front and explicit with her, Harley never would have had to go through the majority of what she did! Her mother, on the other hand, was a complete wench! I don't know how or why her husband would have stayed with her for all that time.
I'd never read anything by Jamie Magee before. Her style of writing is different than most I've read, so that took a bit of time to get used to. I have to say, though that I am a huge fan. This has quickly become one of my favorite books! I can't wait for book number two from this series!

First in the Station 32 romance series revolving around the Doran family and their friends. The couple focus is on Harley Tatum and Wyatt Doran.
Impulsion is a freebie, and I cannot for the life of me find the email that offered it. And. Sigh. I'll apologize up front for the massacre waiting below, but it was just so bad...
My Take
I had planned on giving this a “1” simply because of the crappy technical side of the writing in this tale of “forbidden” love, but I raised it up to a “2” because it is a good story concept, and one I actually continued to read even though all the technical errors drove me nuts. The characters were terrific. Warm, friendly, supportive.
I do like how well Magee delineated between perspectives as Harley and Wyatt shared a first-person dual protagonist point-of-view.
The Niggles, For They are A’Many
On the story side, Harley’s parents made no sense. Why would her father put up with her mother’s antics? How could he not know what she was doing? How could he allow her to control so much?
Harley herself drove me a bit nuts. Making allowances for her whack job mother, her father certainly gave her enough cues to get a clue. Then again, Harley shouldn’t have had to try and figure out what he was saying. IF her father had actually been paying attention to what Mom was up to. As for all of Harley’s fears about investors falling away, etc. Please. Investors want to make money, and it appears as if Garrison Tatum and Conrad were doing that.
On the technical side. Oh. My. God. It begins with that title [up on Amazon, anyway]: Southern Impulsion: First Love, Second Chance. What the hell? That second half isn’t even on any of the covers. I didn’t think the first half was the series name because that showed up further down the title line inside parentheses. But Impulsion is the only title for the various editions in Goodreads while Southern Impulsion is on the Amazon cover. It’s an excellent example of how careful an author needs be to maintain quality control. Of course that leads to the name of the series. Station 32? Does this mean it’s actually about the firemen? The part that barely featured in the story?
It’s the most visible display of lack of quality control before it descends. Omigod, does it ever descend, and seeing that this story is self-published, I can only speculate that Magee mostly relied upon spellcheck. If any writer wants an example of why you can’t do this, why a writer NEEDS, at minimum, a proofreader (Magee, you need a copyeditor), Southern Impulsion is it. Magee has no clue about commas (yes, that includes vocative case); when to use the possessive versus the plural (your versus you’re, anyone?) — and not JUST those contractions!!; proper word usage (the most glaring of which were finance when Magee obviously meant fiancé and the difference between pass, past, and passed); improper verb agreements; the lack of pronouns, articles, and prepositions (oh, god!!); improper use (or not) of double negatives; when to capitalize and when not; and, on and on.
If using a first-person POV, you can’t mention that that character “didn’t notice the catch of breath someone in the room took”. Either the character in whose perspective the scene is being written notices it and so it can be written about, or you can't write about it.
I found myself speculating if English was Magee’s second language. And while I hadn't bookmarked the truly horribly phrased sentences that forced me to go back and read 'em over and over, I did finally starting marking:

Jamie Magee does it again!!! This book pulls you in immediately!! With some books you have to use your imagination to get the "back story" not with Impulsion. You begin with the coming of age story of a group of kids who fight to keep each other sane when two of them are abruptly ripped from each others lives and thrust into the world of young adulthood. Harley and Wyatt share the ultimate teenage love affair in secret or so they think...but when that love affair is exposed it rocks every character to the core!!

I'm such a sap. Full review soon, but long story short, if you love "The Longest Ride" You'll also fall in love with Impulsion. I can't wait to read the next one.

That was such a feel good book! Although it was pretty angsty, in terms of the fact that they kept missing each other due to miscommunication, Harley and Wyatt’s love was just so beautiful and sweet. I got to read characters that I loved to hate and just loved to love. My favorite character out of everyone was Harley’s father. Even though he talked in riddles and wasn’t so blunt all the time he was still a good person and loved his little girl like no one else in the world.
Harley Tatum lives for her summers in the south. My Thoughts….
Jamie Magee has completely blown my mind with this book. We all knew she could write in amazing and creative paranormal romance. She has now shown she can write a heartfelt, sexy, and interesting New Adult romance. The characters were amazing, the story was one that you can’t forget, and the writing was flawless as usual.
Harley Tatum.
Harley is living a life that looks perfect from the outside. She is rich, has two caring parents, goes to an exclusive boarding school, and gets to board at a horse farm in the summertime. What people don’t see is that her father is the only one that genuinely cares, her mother is nasty and vindictive, and the only place she can truly be free and happy is Willowhaven farm. The place she found her first and second love, Danny boy and the sexy oldest son Wyatt.
I loved Harley’s character. She was working hard to forget the life that she leaves in New York every summer. She has a nasty mother and she is still a nice and caring person. In the beginning she isn’t strong but I loved watching her character grow into the strong person she was in the end. Sometimes she seemed to care too much what other people thought but Wyatt helped her see what really matters.
Wyatt Doran.
Wyatt Doran is the son of a bull rancher and a famous horse rider. He help both his mother and father around the farm with whatever they need. He seems to have everything a family that genuinely cares about each other, great friends, and an idea where he wants his life to go. Wyatt knows there is something missing. He is slightly wild and likes to take the most dangerous rides. Until Harley walked on to his family farm and everything changed.
I loved Wyatt. He was just so swoon-worthy, definitely right up to the top of my book boyfriend list for sure. All he wanted to do was give Harley everything she wanted in life, as well as keep her safe. Both of them had a bit of a listening/ communication problem but it made their characters real.
Now to the best part of the book., the romance between Wyatt and Harley. Wyatt and Harley have the type of romance that everyone dreams about and very few find. They had a whorl-wind beginning that ended so heartbreakingly in left you in tears. What neither of them realized is that they were both fighting their way back to each other but I like to think that fate wanted to see them change as people so that they could have the love affair that everyone dreams about. When their romance starts as teenagers they know it’s different from so many others. Their love collides and becomes this epic, all-consuming love that either can deny or hide.
The flow of this story is perfect. Usually you get flashbacks to the beginning or you get some hints and you have to guess, but Jamie Magee gives you the beginning and the tragic end of their summer romance. You see the characters go through the bumps and bruises of life and come out better people. You get the perfect balance of characters that you can love with all of your heart and also dislike with everything you have.
This book will pull you in, make you remember your first love, live through Wyatt and Harley’s love affair, and it will make you live every moment until the book has ended. And what a great ending it was! Pick this book up the minute it comes out. You will not regret it! I promise.

She has money but doesn’t flaunt it. She really is doing all she can on her own, making her own way. I loved how her father backed her up and gave her great advice. I hated that she had no back bone when it came to her mother. I despised her mother all I have to say is I hope Karma has her first on the list.
Wyatt, so selfless, handsome, honest and smart. He is a guys guy but also has heart and is a gentleman. He is what every mother would hope for their daughter. An honorable and faithful man.
I found that there was a bit too much lack of communication and a whole bunch of assumptions. You know what they say… when you assume! But of course it made the situations more angsty.
The chemistry between Wyatt and Harley is intense. I adored all of the characters, they all brought a little something extra to the story.
I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait to see what is next in the series.

This was a bit of a mixed reading for me. Sometimes I loved it, sometimes I felt like it dragged on and sometimes I just didn't want to continue reading on.
Harley was a bit annoyimg for me. She was the good girl that daddy loved and mommy mistreated. She always strived to be the best and impress her father, but after falling in love with Wyatt. I couldn't stand how she backed down when her mother threatened to cause harm to the Doran. She knew she wanted Wyatt but allowed her mother to rule over her life. She allowed her mother to put her with Collin and it pissed me off. I just couldn't deal with her being too afraid of her mom to live her life.
Wyatt was an amazing guy. I loved how bold he was from start to finish when it came to his love for Harley. He was a true southern gentleman and knew how to treat Harley. Wyatt had his moments of being an major ass, but he made those up when he told Collin off and went to speak to Garrison.
The romance between the two of them was electric. They were destined to be soulmates. After three years of their secret romance and after two years apart they still had that electric feeling between the two of them.
The sterotypes of the two families, the Tatums and the Dorans, was pretty intriguing. Rich versus farmhand in a sense.
Claire Tatum was a major bitch. She is type of woman that was born rich, married rich and wanted nothing to do with anything that wasn't rich. Garrison was an amazing father to Harley! He never once looked down on Harley and Wyatt as a couple, but rather supported it. Camille and Beckett Doran were amazing as well. They accepted Harley into their family without reservation of her wealthy background.
I enjoyed this book nonetheless and plan to read the companion sequel soon.

This was one of those books that, as I was reading it, kept me wavering back and forth about how much I did or didn't like it. It's a compelling story. Harley is the poor little rich girl, and Wyatt is the son of the horse trainer Harley stays with every summer. Teens, young love, secret love; it's a little extra romantic to me since I was one of those who married my high school sweetheart.
I love the understandable angst that comes with trying to make a relationship work at that immature stage of life. This couple had extra issues working against them, in part from Harley's mother, who seemed determined to make her daughter into what she deemed the perfect person. Not a rancher’s fling. Wyatt, on the other hand, had understanding and kind parents, who just wanted the best for him.
The missed opportunities and miscommunications made so many parts of this story heartbreaking, and I just wanted to yell at the characters, JUST TALK IT OUT ALREADY!!!! The only downside is that in some parts, the story just kept dragging – sort of rambling – while not progressing forward. I wanted to know what was going to happen already! I found myself feeling a little impatient, and occasionally a little dulled by this. Then, when the ending came, it was so sweet and perfect!
After all the drama, this couple deserved their happily ever after, and I finished this book with that good feeling, that Oh, It Was Perfect afterglow. So, the bottom line is that it's definitely worth the read, and I'm so glad I stuck with it. ~ George, 3.5 stars

I have read Jaimie Magee's fantasy novel Exaltation before and found it very confusing... But despite me generally not being a fan of cowboy romance I decided to try this book because her writing in the Exaltation was very good.
I liked this Impulsion, the story of teens in love torn apart is very emotional, and I loved Wyatt (Harvey, not so much).
The 'should have spoken to each other and not jumped to conclusions' is done beautifully here. Many books with the same premise irritate me with character's stupidity, but not this: here you can see how these miscommunications remained miscommunications, and empathise!
So despite total lack of backbone in Harley, I read the book in one sitting and am seriously considering the next one in Station 32 series!

Again with the amazingness that is Jamie Magee. This one is a little older, mature, and sexy. Granted, the first few chapters I was a little hesitant on, but I kept going and I am so glad that I did. The story is a modern Romeo and Juliet, plus cowboys, firemen, and scandal all wrapped up into one. You'll want to hug some characters, cry for others, and throat punch a few too. You'll want to shake the protagonists because they're both very stubborn at points, and while the ending is a smidge predictable, the way Jamie gets to that point is worth the read. So many twists, turns, and bumps you will be cheering for them. Definitely worth the read.

I am so sad it is over. I couldn't be more head over heels for Wyatt. How much more can you ask for with having a firefighter and cowboy all in one. Harley was very innocent in the beginning and then learned to stand up for herself at the end. My heart broke when they were torn away from each other, but luckily fate has a way of working its magic and bringing them back together. I wanted to punch Harley's mother and scream with joy when her father took a stand. Overall, I loved this book and found it very hard to put down, as I felt a lil bit of high school romances coming to memory. *ARC complements of the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

If you have never read a Jamie Magee book Impulsion is a great place to start. She delivers an exceptional experience in each of her titles. I get lost each and every time, Impulsion is no exception. Harley and Wyatt are more than just characters in her book they become friends as you read deeper into her pages. A love story for sure, but one that will keep you guessing and keep you riveted till the very last page.
You won't regret picking this book up. Your only problem may be putting it down.

I loved this story and the characters were strong and sensitive except for Harley’s mother that lady would not quit. Harley was sent to train with her horse to one of the best in the business but one look at her son Wyatt and Harley was done. Wyatt was attracted to Harley also but he knew that they had to hide it because her mother was a witch. Now it’s the last season before Harley has to go to Paris and be a society girl but her mother got suspicious and yanked her away from her horse and Wyatt. Heartbroken Harley plots to get back to Wyatt unless things changed. You spend a lot of time hoping for them to get back together but it doesn’t look good.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. There were little things that bugged me, Harley being somewhat annoying at times, but who doesn't love a good cowboy love story. To me this book stood out more the love story of a cowboy and the one girl who stole his heart from the first glance he got of her, not a fire fighters story so much. Over all I think it was fairly well written. The author shows potential. This is the first book I have read by Jamie and parts of it felt not so mature. Then again we follow the story of high school summer lovers and pick up four years later when their paths cross again, due to a terrible accident.
Harley comes from an extremely well to do family. Her mother is a controlling, conniving biotch. Her father is pretty decent, but does not seem to stand up for his daughter, no matter how badly her mother treats her. I think Harley is like most 17 year-olds, that she does not want to rock the boat, she does as she is asked, no matter how badly she hates or does not agree with the situation. The part that sucks is that she continues to allow her mother to belittle and berate her as she grows older. She talks about standing up to her, yet she never really does.
Wyatt comes from an amazingly loving, close family. They are there for each other no matter what. Stepping up to help out those friends that are close to them. They seem to have this awesome family network. I found it interesting that Wyatt claims to be oh-so-close to his mom, yet he does not let her know about his relationship with Harley until it is to late.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. There were little things that bugged me, Harley being somewhat annoying at times, but who doesn't love a good cowboy love story. To me this book stood out more the love story of a cowboy and the one girl who stole his heart from the first glance he got of her, not a fire fighters story so much. Over all I think it was fairly well written. The author shows potential. This is the first book I have read by Jamie and parts of it felt not so mature. Then again we follow the story of high school summer lovers and pick up four years later when their paths cross again, due to a terrible accident.
Harley comes from an extremely well to do family. Her mother is a controlling, conniving biotch. Her father is pretty decent, but does not seem to stand up for his daughter, no matter how badly her mother treats her. I think Harley is like most 17 year-olds, that she does not want to rock the boat, she does as she is asked, no matter how badly she hates or does not agree with the situation. The part that sucks is that she continues to allow her mother to belittle and berate her as she grows older. She talks about standing up to her, yet she never really does.
Wyatt comes from an amazingly loving, close family. They are there for each other no matter what. Stepping up to help out those friends that are close to them. They seem to have this awesome family network. I found it interesting that Wyatt claims to be oh-so-close to his mom, yet he does not let her know about his relationship with Harley until it is to late.
When Harley and Wyatt find their lives ripped apart, will they be able to find a way back to one another? Will they be able to forgive each other for those things that transpired while they were apart.
