Wheeeee! Come and play for a day at the Itsy Bitsy Splishy Splashy Bug Water park in this energetic reimagining of a favorite nursery rhyme in Jane Cabrera’s Story Time Collection.
Itsy Bitsy Spider climbed up the water spout. Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Itsy Bitsy Spider found it so much fun. He asked all his friends if they would come along!
Itsy Bitsy Spider can’t wait for the rain to come down—that’s when he gets to ride his bug water slide! But not all of his bug friends know how to swim. They’ll have to put their heads together to dream up a different way to have fun. Jane Cabrera accompanies this sing-along classic with upbeat illustrations and cheerful text that will have young readers and parents eagerly turning the pages.
Jane Cabrera's Story Time celebrates children's best-loved read-along nursery rhymes and songs. These interactive favorites are given a new twist by award-winning artist Jane Cabrera and feature her bold, bright, kid-friendly illustrations. Jane Cabrera is best known as an Author and Illustrator of Children's Books. She has written and illustrated 56 books which have been translated into over 25 languages and won awards in the US and Europe. She lives on the edge of beautiful Dartmoor National Park in the UK. Her books range from picture story books to concept board books for babies.
Splashy child-friendly acrylic illustrations complement the equally appealing text in this updated picture book version of the classic rhyme. The Itsy-Bitsy Spider is still climbing up the spout and being washed out by rainwater. But in this version, empathize with the arachnid when no one wants to play in the water. So that they can safely enjoy the experience, they travel in a leaf boat, an idea that is expanded further into a Bug Water Park. This one is a good choice for a read aloud although the classic lines will still retain their popularity.
Several of Jane Cabrera's books are great picks for toddler or even some baby storytimes, but I would say this is much more suited to preschool. The lyrics address the spider feeling sad when the other bugs are too scared to play, and what they do to problem solve. I could see stopping to ask the kids questions disruptive to the flow of the singing. In fact, maybe it's just better as a one on one read. Who knows!
Another fun expansion of a well-known nursery rhyme from Cabrera complete with her signature illustrations! Can't wait to share this singable with a storytime group!
4 - A cute, colorful spin on the traditional rhyme. There is only one clunky verse, but the rest of them will work just fine to sing and share with the storytime crowd.
