Love doesn’t shatter in a single blow—it fractures, piece by piece.
With one choice, Misha Hroshko became my my savior, my lover, my husband.
For a decade, he’s kept his promise to protect me, but some vows are harder to uphold than others.
Now, the dark secret society that once owned me wants me back, but Misha will stop at nothing to keep me safe.
So he prepares to fight the way he knows best—with force, with control, with ruthless determination.
The only problem? He wants to put me on a shelf.
Sheltered. Untouched. Forgotten.
I’ve spent too long in the shadows hiding from The Legion, and now it’s my turn to fight.
But I didn’t expect the biggest battle to be against the love of my life.
He saved me once…but can we save our marriage?

Love stories that hurt, haunt, and heal. Unrepentant Rattie. Chronic overthinker. Queer she/they who loves a good four-letter word. Believer that crawfish is a primary food group.
Firelight and Fractures is a delicious and captivating tale featuring characters in the Shadowplay Series. Author Angel M. Shaw writes a perfectly paced novella featuring complex characters, emotional growth, and a compelling plot. The profound connection between Luna and Misha, despite all odds, grants the reader hope as one witnesses their journey. While this is a short read, it is in no way rushed and is a fabulous representation of Shaw's abilities for new readers looking for dark romance authors. I had the absolute honor of receiving this as an ARC and devoured it. I can't wait to see what Angel M. Shaw writes next!
Quotes: "For the babes who wanna be chased by their men and banged in the snow. Here’s your prezzie, besties."

"Misha and I aren’t lost. We’ve just…drifted a bit. All we need to do is find our way back to each other."

“Yes, I do,” she says, her gaze unwavering. “But I’m not something fragile that’ll break, Misha. I’ve been through enough, survived enough, to know my own strength. And I’m asking you to let me use it. Not just for you, but for us.”
Holy hot, Batman! This novella had me from the very beginning. I love Luna. She's my hero. Not one to take life lying down or waiting for the man to do it all, she's just all any woman could want to be. And then Misha, hot, sexy, broody Misha! The man needs to learn to let go and accept help. He's not in life alone, just ask Luna. But no... he's got to be all alpha male (bring it on) and control the world.
Now, when I say this book is a DARK romantic suspense, I'm not lying here. You have to be made aware that the sex in this book is NOT vanilla! Not in any way. Nuh uh! But dayum.

Overall: 4.5/5 Spice level: 2.5/5 Tropes: marriage in trouble, age gap, close proximity, touch her and die
Novellas always leave me wanting more, which is usually in a good way, like this one. Fair warning, this story makes more sense if you read the Shadowplay series first. This may be a prequel of 2 side characters' relationship, much of the plot won't make sense without reading the trilogy first.
Regarding the marriage in trouble plot, there was a great balance of the sexual tension but also of the tension that put their relationship in jeopardy.
Mishka and Luna had great chemistry, and her character has so much strength after what she endured. I loved that she set the ultimatum that she be treated as an equal partner and not some fragile object needing protection. It's a prelude to her position in the Shadowplay trilogy.
Firelight and Fractures is the perfect companion to the Shadowplay Trilogy bringing Misha & Luna to the forefront I suggest reading this after you've devoured the trilogy, even though it's a standalone, reading after will bring all the pieces together for you. F&F has amazing storytelling that will rip your heart into pieces before carefully putting it back together. This novella brings just the right combination of dark, angsty and suspenseful vibes with an outstanding redemption arc. And tons spice. Muy Caliente!
If you've read the Shadowplay Trilogy you need to run, not walk, and grab this Novella. If you haven't read the trilogy...what you waiting for? :)
