Daughters is a dystopian action-adventure novel of survival, identity, and rebellion set against the backdrop of an alien invasion.

In 2047, the Khor'Zon landed in Eastern Europe. They called their spacecraft The Chalis. What started as humanity's attempt to assert strength turned into an unthinkable nightmare when the aliens revealed their true motives. With too few soldiers for conquest, they abducted human children, reshaping them into lethal warriors for their ranks.

V'delle is one of those children. Now a battle-hardened soldier, she's poised to join the fight. But as flickers of forgotten memories surface—visions of a cottage, the sound of a woman's voice—V'delle realizes the indoctrination hasn't fully taken hold. A revelation that could mean death if the Khor'Zon find out.

Forced to escape or die, V'delle finds an unlikely ally in Farin, another soldier resisting indoctrination. Together, they navigate the war-torn remnants of Europe, where every encounter tests their loyalty, humanity, and sanity. From a disgraced alien warlord seeking redemption, to a family man caught in their orbit, and resistance fighters with compromised morals, V'delle's journey forces her to confront emotions long buried and face brutal truths about herself and a world broken beyond repair.

To survive, she must decide what it means to be human—and whether she can reclaim her stolen sense of self.

When you're finished with Daughters, don't forget to jump into the sequel, The Recusant, out now!

Forced to become a soldier for the enemy. Too strong for her own good. This is not your typical coming-of-age tale. The world of this novel is rich and expansive, at the same time almost painfully personal. As the story unfolded I seemed to discover who I was as if I were V’delle.

The dark matter of this story is lifted by the varied humor of its cast of characters. It’s not only a sci-fi adventure, but a study of human variety and commonality. Each new chapter and character had me thinking more deeply about what it means to be human, not in a philosophical, airy way, but in a way that was visceral, knee-jerk. About what it means to survive. And what it means to love.

The writing is somehow both fast-paced and dreamy, and reads like an expanded and intelligent screenplay, with sight and sounds driving the plot, as memory drives V’delle home.

I picked this book up at SLCC FanX a couple years ago intrigued by the beautiful cover and idea of two women journeying through a war torn planet. I found that I really enjoyed some aspects of the book but was drawn away by some of the writing.

Issue number one: There were way to many metaphors and similes in this book, especially in the beginning. And often times the metaphors were oddly specific or didn’t quite make sense. The metaphors and similes rarely added to the scenery or helped me visualize better. I think that if changes were made to instead include better descriptions then I would have been able to be drawn in to the story more.

Issue number two: Indistinct changes between different characters points of view. While I greatly enjoyed some of the other characters points of view or background, the changes between points of view were choppy and disorganized. Often a different point of view would be two sentences randomly on the page and often could have been related by the main character and not have changed anything.

Last issue: Now while my first two issues were just with the author’s writing, this one is more personal and just opinion. For me, the relationship between Farin and V’dele took way to long to become more friendly than I would have liked. I really want to see more of their dynamic and hopefully we’ll get to see more of that later in the series.

In conclusion I’m glad that I read this book and would love to read the sequels and continue to follow to journey of V’dele and Farin. While I believe the author’s writing could use some work, I really enjoy the world and characters!

Best sci-fi novel with compelling story!

The first time I read this it quickly became one of my favorite sci-fi novels I’ve ever read. The story is both compelling and surprising, and the writing is eloquent and very well done. V’delle is such an amazing, complex MC with such great character development from the beginning to the end and the book leaves you desperate for more in the best way possible. 100% recommended for anyone that loves reading!

If you want an exciting sci-fi novel with a great story - this is the book!!! A very unique and thrilling plot. I love a book that has some shocks and surprises every now and then. It keeps the readers mind reeling. There's love of family and then there's devastation.
It has a sharp intelligent heroine with just the right amount of emotion and action.
I love the side characters with interesting backgrounds and that have a voice of reason or humor.
The details in the book are so descriptive it just adds to your imagination. The author's use of language is amazing and has such fine details. I loved it!!!!!
