When I tell you that this book never left my hands. It never left my hands. I was invested through and through that I brought the book everywhere with me because there was not a single time that I didn’t want to know what happened next. The writing is to die for and the characters are unique in every aspect of the book. And Ronin? Honey, that man. 😍🥵 That’s my husband right there. I can’t wait for more. I NEED more.
First off I connected with this author on tiktok. I fan girled the entire time I read the book which made my entire life complete.
This book was amazing. Shes a thick girl, and I loved her so much. If I didnt have to work I never wouldve put the book down. I needed to know what happened next every time I finished a chapter. I started to read it on KU and had to have a physical copy as well and they both came with to work so I could read when I could. The book had me glued. Jay's take on forbidden romance was done so well I was begging for the contact. Begging for the chance for them to be together. Begging for all that was done to finally be over and worth it. The dialogue had me giggling, and the slow burn was so worth it.
The book follows the main girl who finds out she has powers when in a fit of rage about how another women is treated explodes. And of course with power comes hunger for more. She is then captured in need of answers and a possible use for her powers as a weapon becomes torturous with loss and sadness.
The book has two male characters who are different in their own ways and the main character is drawn too. One who protects her, even when his job is to obey differently and gets himself in trouble all the while. and the other one would burn the world down to keep her safe, and has killed and betrayed to do so. Secrets are unraveled as her memories are released and she questions everything in her life.
The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, and the omg moments made me scream. The grief in this book hit me hard and had me in tears. The tension had me squealing and I need more.
The need for the second book has my skin crawling. I am so glad I had the chance to read this book and connect with the author on a deeper level. I cant wait to continue the growing friendship with Kay and continue the journey with this series and im excited to read her upcoming book as well.
I am a fan girl over this author and I have no shame.
I went into Refract excited after discovering it through the author’s social media, and overall, I enjoyed it! The story is packed with incredible detail, which makes the world and characters come alive, but at times, the length felt a bit overwhelming. If you’re not a fan of highly detailed writing, this might not be the book for you.
The ending left me a little conflicted—it transitions into being a prequel, which I didn’t expect. While I’m intrigued, I’m also feeling a bit lost and will need to wait and see where the series goes next. This story does end on a cliffhanger so just be ready!
One of my favorite moments was the reveal that Caspian and Ronin are half-brothers. It added such a shocking twist to the story and deepened the connections between the characters.
One moment that stood out to me was the description of Raven’s outfit for the Mission of Free Will. I would love to see that brought to life—her look sounds absolutely stunning!
Overall, Refract is a long, detailed read with a lot to offer if you enjoy immersive storytelling. Solid book—just be ready to dive deep!

Okay okay!!! Through the first 30% I was so confused and it took me forever to get through it. The world build was good but the plot itself was very surface level at first. But once the back story played out I was hooked! And then the ending plot twist … I’m excited for another book to come out. The ending really added that 4th star for me. The grammar and syntax within the books definitely needs to be proofread better as there were MANY many sentences with words missing, or wrong punctuation, or just sentences that were a little confusing.
