Ada and Jide are two bankers with two different reasons to be desperate about meeting their respective targets. While Jide is keen to make a name independent of his billionaire father’s, Ada just wants to stay employed. With only a week to the closure of their bank’s IPO and a limited number of pool cars, they have no choice but to share one as they hit the town, marketing. Unseasonal rain compounds their already dire situation, and by the end of the week, as unexpected emotional connections are made, there is more at stake than just their jobs.
One Week in October is part of Kiss The Rain anthology, a collection of romance stories, set in a nostalgic rainstorm, showcasing the complex connections between lovers, featuring adorable meet-cutes, drama, humor, emotional rollercoasters, and unforgettable characters.
The Writer, who became an Engineer, who became an Investment Banker, who became a Fertility Spokesperson, who became…a Writer. That has been the journey of A. T. Nwokedi, aka The Fertile Chick. A self confessed hopeless romantic, when she is not creating new characters, she devotes her time to creating memories with her husband and their three children.
At first, I wasn't feeling the story because there was no detailed introduction of the main characters, Ada and Jide. But, I got to know them better as the story progressed. I loved them and I enjoyed every moment they shared together - the fun moments, their bickering, everything was so sweet.😍 I love when they ran in the rain; omo, there are many lovey-dovey things I've not experienced in my life.🥲 One thing I confirmed from this story is that, the sons of billionaires are the real lover boys, except they don't like you. Once they like you, it's over!🥹 Thank you for this beautiful story @adesuwaonwokedi.
Take Home Lesson: 🔸 Sometimes, your instinct might be right but in the case of uncertainty, it's better to communicate. Lack of communication is an obstacle.
This was a quick read centered on a sweet whirlwind romance and of course the main female character as usual had drama...oh my gender & jumping to conclusions 😅😅
This is a very short book set in a banking environment. While I didn’t fully grasp half of what was happening, it was still a fun and quick read. The characters didn’t pose any issues for me—however, there’s a big but coming: I cannot stand the miscommunication trope. Absolutely not.
That said, I’d rate this book a 2/5. It took me about 45 minutes to finish, and the short chapters made for a smooth reading experience. Unfortunately, while it was easy to get through, the plot felt a bit dull overall.
I think I connect with this story so much because I'm familiar with the environment in which this novella takes place. Ada and Jide end up working closely together, with just one week to meet their targets. Ada, whose main account was taken by her so-called friend after she refused to sleep with her top client, is under pressure to meet her target or risk losing her job. And trust me, the pressure to hit those targets is intense. Jide, on the other hand, has just broken free from his wealthy father’s control and needs to prove he can succeed on his own, even though his true passion is photography.
During that one week, as they work side by side, Ada and Jide get closer, and sparks fly—especially with all the rain falling in Lagos! Lol. That week together is enough for them to open up to each other, and we soon see them supporting one another’s dreams in the most adorable way. But as always, uncertainty starts to creep in, threatening to pull them apart. You’ll have to read the book to find out how it ends!
This novella is fast-paced and perfect if you're looking for a quick, sweet romance set in a workplace. I really enjoyed it, and kudos to the author for writing such a charming office romance. Highly recommend!
She smiles, but it is the tear that slips from her eyes that unlocks my feet and propels me to her. I walk to her just as she walks to me, and I hoist her off the ground.
With her hands wrapped around my neck, our lips merge in a union that is not just overdue but transcendent, in a kiss that replaces the finiteness of what we had with a never-ending ellipsis, an event longer than one week in October.
One Week in October tells the story of Ada and Jide, who are forced to hit the town together for marketing due to a limited number of pool cars. To be honest, half of what was going on with the closure of their bank’s IPO and meeting targets and all that flew over my head. I couldn't grasp what was going on in that aspect.
Again, I do not like the insta-love trope, but okay, I get it. What is paining me is the miscommunication trope that was used. Ada, what was that behavior you displayed? Are you alright? The way you went from zero to a hundred was alarming and concerning.
Overall, this was a very quick and fast-paced book, but I didn't really connect with any of the characters.
Thank you Adesuwa O’man Nwokedi for the opportunity to read this book.
