Oakley Island #3.5

Izzy and Her Off-Limits Love

Rate this book
Getting over your childhood crush is never easy. Especially when your family is full of meddling matchmakers.I’ve tried my whole life to curb my feelings for Liam, who is NOT my cousin, even if our family is like, well, family.

After he brought a girlfriend home for the holidays last year, I decided it was high time for my crush to finally die. And since we haven’t run into each other at all since then, it’s been easy. (If not altogether effective.) Even our family stopped trying to push us together.

But then Liam walks into my office just before Christmas and I find out he’ll be working here as a consultant. Oh—and he got special permission from my boss to have me directly under him.

Then, when my building suddenly (and somewhat suspiciously) has to undergo emergency fumigation and I need a place to stay, Liam offers me his guest bedroom.

Oh, joy and holiday cheer.

But finding out Liam is single and not practically engaged—it changes everything. Is it possible I just might get my longest-held Christmas wish?

Izzy and Her Off-Limits Love is a second-gen novella in the Oakley Island Romcom Series. Books in the series are full of sizzling chemistry and tension with just kisses.

HOW DO I EVEN BEGIN?! Ah yes with a squeal I’m sure they’ll hear on Oakley Island.

EEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!!

This story was EVERYTHING! Y’all. A 2nd-Gen love story from the Oakley crew. Getting a glimpse at life with them all these years later, but also wholly its own love story.

I spent the entire book giggling, and grinning, and kicking my little feet. Izzy & Liam were SOOOO cute together and then *finally* getting together. *I swoon*

The family chaos was just an added bonus. 😈😏

Seriously I don’t think I could love this book more! They even worked in a slight “workplace” romance and add to that the fact they KNEW each other their whole lives…y’all KNOW how I feel about it!

ALL. OF. THE. STARS!
I’m already planning my reread!

I read this short holiday romance, and Cruel Winter with You, to pad my 'Read' books to meet my GR Reading Challenge. Both were fine, but each had one of my least favorite trope hooks.

Here in Izzy, the story suffered from the dreaded miscommunication plotline of doom. The FMC convinces herself that her life-long friend and crush must be engaged to the woman he brought home for Christmas to meet the family. A year ago. If it's been that long since you've seen him, why would you draw that conclusion when the MMC had an entire year to potentially breakup with the girlfriend? Anyway, there was a lot of pussyfooting about for the first several chapters before the lines were cleared up. Like Cruel, the story was tolerable because of its brevity.

LOVED BEING BACK.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

Gosh dang I loved being back in this world. I didn’t realize how much I missed these characters until the surprise announcement that we were getting a Christmas novella, and it’s second generation!!! I have always wanted more second generation moments and I’m so happy to get one on Oakley Island.

The holiday spirit is there, and so are the meddlesome parents and sneaky raccoons. This was light and made me smile and was exactly the joy I was after. I adored both of the main characters (dual POV!) and how sweet and heated the reconnection was. Izzy and Liam’s romance is perfect for the season!

Overall audience notes:
- Christmas Romance Novella
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses

This was just okay. I hate when books have the MMC have these long time feelings for the FMC that they never do anything about if there’s not a legitimate reason. The ONLY reason he ends up pursuing Izzy is because he ends up at her workplace due to his own work. It felt like, “Well I’ve always had these feelings for her, but I’m only acting on them because I happen to be in the room with her.” Also, Izzy assuming he’s engaged and being weird for half the book was also so strange and such a huge leap based on meeting a girlfriend once. Also, the fact that no one in their family has mentioned him to her for an entire year also made no sense. The whole set up to their relationship just felt like it wasn’t planned out at all.

Izzy & Liam ❤️

🎄Izzy’s dad is married to her stepmother Merritt, his childhood crush. Merritt’s sister Eloise is married to Jake, whose nephew Liam has been friends with Izzy for years. Izzy’s family’s been teasing her about her feelings for Liam for so long, but recently they have been holding back.

🎄Izzy works in what should be her dream job at a non-profit, but it’s not as fulfilling as she expected it to be.

🎄When she finds out that Liam, is going to be bringing his software to her work and she’ll be helping him with the rollout, she’s really conflicted. He brought his serious girlfriend home last Christmas and she’s spent the last year trying to stop her thoughts about him. But maybe there’s more to this story than Izzy realises.

✏️The latest story in Emma and Jenny’s cute Oakley Island series feels like a novella / epilogue type gift. We met Izzy and Jake as cute kids and fast forward a few years this pair is all grown up and ready for their own happy-ever-after. There’s a bit of workplace romance, some forced proximity and mostly the childhood friends to lovers trope going on here. The dual POV worked for me. I almost wished I remembered more about these two from the earlier stories, but I am not planning a re-read just to refresh my memory.

Edited to add audiobook review.

This is a kisses only contemporary romcom novella that is connected but set after the Oakley Island series of books.

Even though the story is relatively brief, meaning that even I could finish it in an afternoon, it HAS ALL THE FEELS! I laughed and swooned and had leaky eyes for most of the book. It was so sweet and was the story I had no idea that I needed until I read it.

My recommendation is to read the full length book in this series and then treat yourself to this gift at the end. You will love seeing the characters from those stories make their appearances here. It's just the best!

Now this book is on audio! And the final book in the Appies series features Liam's parents' story. (Naomi and Camden). I read this one, then read that one and then listened to this one. I think it is fun to have read As You Ice is before reading this one. But you can do it either way, especially since this one was written before that one.

Anyway...the audio for this one was great! Even though these aren't my favorite romcom audiobook narrators, I did enjoy listening to them read this book.
I was given a complimentary digital copy of this book. I'm happily leaving an honest review.

This is an adorable, delightful read as Izzy and Liam finally get their HEA after being introduced to them and seeing them grow up in the Oakley series. The family chaos is pure bonus. What a fun, light romcom.

4.5 stars. These two did it again! How they manage to write depth and chemistry in such a short novella is a mystery to me but they pulled it off! So good

~Getting over your childhood crush is never easy.
Especially when your family is full of meddling matchmakers...

“You’re it for me.”

-Izzy and Her Off-Limits Love is a lovely second-generation novella in the Oakley Island Romcom Series. Books in the series are full of sizzling chemistry and tension with just kisses. You will simply love that this a novella with a dual pov, it’s set at Christmastime, it has childhood friends/teenage crushes, forced proximity, meddling family members character cameos, performance reviews, kisses, a fantastic ending, and of course, some swoony good moments along the way!

-Friends, while this may be a novella with only 120 pages, rest assured because this sweet story is precisely and wonderfully filled with ALL the goodness! There is so much happiness, sparks of chemistry, and such swoonyness on every single page, making this dear story such a delight. If you have enjoyed reading the Oakley Island series, then you will adore this one as well! And, if you haven’t read this series, you will still enjoy this story bit, do yourself a lovely favor, and get them on your tbr for sooner, than later. This dear novella is worthy the read!🙌🏻📚🩷🎄✨

Reread via audio. Loved the narration and revisiting this story—especially after the Appies’ series finale with Naomi and Cam. (Liam’s parents)

This little second generation novella was a pure delight! Family meddling, childhood friends, workplace romance, forced proximity, and Christmas fun are all perfectly squeezed into this little story.

What an absolutely delightful story! I’ve very much h been looking forward to reading Izzy and Liam’s story, and I’m so glad I finally moved it to the top of my TBR! This story is completely adorable, and it just might be my favorite of the Oakley Island series!
Izzy and Liam are such fun together and it was a joy to watch their friendship blossom into something more.
This is such a cozy and happy read, and it had me snort-laughing more than once!
I know not everyone loves novellas, but personally they are totally my jam, and this is one of my fave novellas I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading!
I seriously loved, loved, LOVED this one and most highly recommend it (as well as the rest of the series!)
This lovely book put a huge smile on my face and made my heart so happy!
Oh, and I listened this one on audio and as always Stephanie Rose and Rock Engle’s performances were *chef’s kiss* amazing!

I received a complimentary audiobook copy of this book from author Emma St. Clair!
My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

This is a sweet Christmas novella featuring the second generation from the Oakley Island series by Emma St. Clair and Jenny Proctor. It's available as part of the boxed set with all three of the novellas or on its own.

Izzy has long had a crush on Liam, and her family has teased them both about it. But she decided to get over him when he brought a serious girlfriend home last Christmas. Only that means she missed the family updates. He has moved just nearby in Savannah, and he is single now.

This was a sweet, quick paced novella. Though it does have Christmas decorations and celebrations, it could be read any time of the year. I read it more as a workplace romance than as a holiday romance.

For me, the best parts were the big family get together and seeing the updates on all of the couples from the Oakley Island series. There's a lot of family meddling and ridiculous shenanigans. And of course, there are hilarious animal antics that made the original novels so unique. I would have loved a family tree because it took me a bit to recall the second generation characters, but I quickly put them together when they were all with their parents.

The book was laugh out loud fun and a great reunion. I recommend it for all who enjoyed the first series and want to return to island life.

Liam & Izzy
- Second Gen Characters
- Forced proximity
- dual POV
- Childhood friends to more
- Christmas time 🎄
- Workplace romance
- Meddling family & small island town

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Book 3.5 of Oakley Island Series - this is such a cute Christmas novella! It warmed my heart seeing the gang back together and all the crazy stuff they got themselves into. If you read the extended epilogue at the end of book 3, you would love this novella.

Izzy and Liam are so sweet and fun together. The teasing and banter is cute and they have fun together, especially when they start communicating and clearing the air. They are so flirty with each other and Liam has moves now 😂

You can now buy the complete Oakley Island Collection or just complete you series and get this Christmas novella today! Happy Release Day Kiki & Jenny!!!

This is a clean, closed door romcom with kissing.

**thank you to Emma St. Clair/Kiki & Jenny Proctor for letting me read this ARC. All opinions are my own**

I read “As You Ice It” first meeting Liam as a kid and hyper focused. While I did read Merritt’s story - I can’t for the life of me remember Izzy or Liam mentioned. I read it years ago when it released. So a re-read may be beneficial before reading this bonus epilogue novella to the Oakley Island series.

I love Oakley Island but half of this book takes place in Savannah. It’s a very quick novella that I’m sure could’ve benefited for a few extra pages.

Second chance childhood best friends with workplace romance add in cute Christmas-y things and it’s a sweet story.

I read young Liam in other books as neurodivergent but this book I didn’t get that at all. Just seemed too quick to get into their new characters.

Thanks to the author for the audio arc. The book and ebook released Dec 2024 but the audio is available August 5,3025. These are my own thoughts and opinions.

This was a low-angst, cozy, workplace, friends to lovers, dual POV holiday romance novella that had meddling family, forced proximity, a turkey stealing raccoon, mistletoe kisses and lots more. Fun, feel-good and with celiac disease rep, I sped through this Oakley Island spin off book set ten years in the future and featuring the second generation of family members. Many thanks to the authors for an early digital ARC in exchange for my honest review!!

Eee!!! I’m so happy to be back on Oakley Island with one of my favorite families! This second-gen novella was so cute and it was so fun to get a glimpse of Eloise, Merritt, and Sadie and their spouses and kids!

Izzy and Liam have grown up together (they are NOT cousins!) but have grown apart in the last year, each living their own lives. So, when Liam shows up at Izzy’s place of work and informs her he’ll be working there for the week, with her right by his side, she doesn’t know how to act. A little forced proximity (with the help of Izzy’s family) soon as these two feeling all the feels toward each other!

Seriously, the cutest novella! I loved watching these two remember all the things they know and love about each other and recognizing their feelings along the way! You’re going to want to read this one ASAP!

This is definitely an extension of previous books vs. a short read. You don’t have to have read the series to get this book but it helps. I’ve read all of them but it’s been a minute. Reading this without having just read the series is like having Deja vu. You know you know but you don’t know.

This book is short and sweet but nothing super major. If you just finished book three of the Oakley series, pick this up. If you haven’t, it’s ok the skip it.

Izzy and Liam

A cute wrap up of this series.

I loved seeing Liam growing up in the rest of the series. Now he's all grown up and while he's very successful, he doesn't have someone to share it with, namely Izzy. Has she already moved on and he's too late?

Izzy and Liam

Izzy and Liam have known each other well. They are close family friends and have spent every vacation and major holiday together since forever. Her step-mom's sister is married to his uncle (or something like that). Now that they adults, it seems a little awkward that they've each developed a crush on the other.
Super cute little book. I had already read the other books in this series and this story was like a happy dessert.
Thanks Jenny Proctor and Emma St Clair!

I loved this book! In this second gen novella, Izzy and Liam have such a fun story to follow! With some family meddling shenanigans pushing the two together, their love story is great. This was a great end to Oakley Island and a book I am obsessed with, no matter how short! I have enjoyed this series so much. Jenny and Emma write the best books, separately and together they are two of my favorite authors! If you haven’t read this series yet, don’t wait!

My only complaint is that novellas move just a touch too quick for me, by nature of the book being shorter and they have to move faster… That being said, this was so sweet and fun 🥰 A great conclusion to Oakley Island!
