The old king is dead. Uncertainty rules in its place. The princely heir shows more interest in his wardrobe than in his kingdom. This is a wonderful tale of good triumphing over evil. The goodness of young people in this story and their bravery and intelligence shines through. The author imbues the characters with personalities and traits that are easy for young readers to understand. The ages-old battle of the underdog (in this case the young disabled boy and his female friend), versus powerful royalty makes for some suspense that will appeal to readers of all ages. The setting for the story is not defined but would seem to be middle-ages in England. There are many morals and some philosophy in this story that make it ideal for reading/story-telling to a young child without too much scary content. I am waiting for my grandchildren to get a little older so I can read this story to them before bed.
