How much are you willing to trust someone you love?
Eve Calderone has been married to Boyd for forty-two years and is grateful for the many gifts in their lives: good health, loving children and grandchildren, dear friends, a beautiful home, and a flourishing family business.
But their blissful marriage is shaken when they meet Peter Murray…because it doesn’t take long to discover he’s the son Boyd never knew he had.
Boyd’s stubborn insistence to bond with his surprise son ignites a transformation in him Eve is entirely unprepared for. Ultimate Love is Book 6 in the Calderone Family Romance series. This poignant seasoned romance weaves past incidents with present day events to journey through the depths of heartache and trust, responsibility and commitment, forgiveness and ultimate love.
Born in Lancashire, England to a Lawrence Welk-loving mum and a Monty Python-loving dad - tea drinkers all - we moved to Canada when I was seven. "Say book! Say look!" my new classmates would hound me just so they could have a good chuckle at my accent. But being incredibly shy, this was a great way for me to make friends.
My love of words and a creative imagination prompted English teachers to urge me to write for a living. My grade 12 Creative Writing teacher suggested I send a sample of my “sizzling dialogue” to the (then) three major television studios in New York City. He was convinced one of them would hire me to write for a soap opera. But, being the still-shy teenager, I didn’t have the courage to do it.
Through the years, I wrote all types of stories while I earned a living as an Administrative Assistant in various businesses including a bank, a car rental firm, an ice cream company, and a pharmaceutical manufacturer. I was more than a little peeved when I discovered none of them gave out free samples. Do you believe that? None of them! Geez. I went on to own a Wedding Coordination business for six years (talk about romance!), all the while being happily married to the love of my life (yep - even more romance!).
These interesting jobs plus wedded bliss gave me oodles of ideas for romantic plot lines, swoon-worthy heroes and feisty, beautiful heroines, and, of course, the happy ever afters.
So amidst endless cups of strong tea while Cole Porter tunes and the dead parrot sketch whirl around in my brain, I write romances with a dollop of humour. I have an irresistible need to create captivating characters whose lives I can make completely miserable before giving them their happy ending.
I currently live in Mississauga and wonder how all the wine and chocolate magically appear in my house...
Ultimate Love by Victoria Grant is a dramatic, romantic and comedic finale to the Calderone Family Romance series.
And of course, I have to shout out that this is a proud, Canadian book. It's a hidden gem! You need to check it out!
This book brings forth the power couple that is Boyd and Eve Calderone. They have been the heads of this family throughout the series, and we finally get to hear their story. Of course, drama follows this family around like a shadow, so we're in for one heck of a ride.
Boyd and Eve's relationship blossomed after a broken engagement for one and a not so happy relationship for the other. These two become glued at the hip, moving from friendship into relationship into the lovebirds we know today. Flash forward to the present, and Boyd is given some mind blowing news - his ex from his youth has a son, and it's his. This is a bombshell that rocks the family and threatens to ruin Eve and Boyd's relationship. The two are stubborn and both want their way, yet they are both being destructive in their own right. The family will have to come together to determine if this mystery son is going to ruin the family, or if the family can expand and live happily ever after.
So what does this series bring to the table? - A fast pace that could win at Nascar - Each book can act as a standalone, but if you read them in order the Easter eggs are sugary sweet - Soap opera level drama - R-rated romance that will make you question how hot it is in here... - Comedy galore - Canadian setting with lots of fun references to Canadian culture
I highly recommend this series. It is honestly one of my favourites and I cannot wait to grab more books by Victoria Grant.
Five out of five stars.
I received this book for free from the author, Victoria Grant, in exchange of an honest review.
The Calderone family - they are rather "epic" as Jamie would say. This book completes the series in a romantic and magnificent manner befitting the Calderone name. That name will stay with me for quite some time to come. Pain, heartache, misunderstandings, and fear mixed in with all the ginormous love the family has for each other, and reading how books one through five came about, makes fir a don't miss romance.
With a prosperous business and a large, loving family, Eve and Boyd Calderone seem to be living their happily ever after. But when Boyd’s past re-emerges in a shocking way, the fairytale threatens to unravel in a tangle of secrets and resentment. If they want their story to endure, Boyd and Eve will have to fight for their love and their family like never before.
In Ultimate Love, Victoria Grant expertly weaves past and present to create a rich narrative showing how fate and past choices have led to Boyd and Eve’s character development. The fact that their romance must weather challenges even after years of marriage makes the story refreshing and realistic.
With its dynamic characters and engaging plot, Ultimate Love is a lovely and touching capstone to the Calderone saga. I highly recommend reading the entire series.
My favourite! I loved that fact that you wrote about a couple that’s older and it’s not always perfect in a marriage years into the marriage. Reality is we get set in our ways as we get older and change can be hard. I loved how this book went back and forth to the past and present. Can not wait to read more series from you.
I have read this entire series and have loved each one and yearned for the next as soon as I finished each. So to read the final episode is bittersweet. It’s wonderful to see so many things come together and questions answered about other stories, but now it’s over and I’m longing for another sequel in this funny, warm, and loving rich family. This family is just like any other, with trials and tribulations, only, their problems don’t revolve around money, at least not the lack thereof. I’m going to miss them, as I feel like I’ve spent a lot of time getting to know them.
Ultimate Love is the story of Eve and Boyd, the parents of the 5 siblings we’ve watched find their own loves. The story has a lot of flashbacks to how they met, their early relationship, and how it grew into love. There are twists and turns, so many things that surprised me (in a good way) and I learned some of their secrets.
I enjoyed this story as much as all the others, the humor, the warmth, the love of family brings tears of joy and I giggled throughout. The author has a wonderful writing style that makes the reader feel all the emotions of her characters. I felt I was on this journey with each of them and now, sadly the journey has come to an end. I’m excited to see what the author will come up with next, I’m sure it will be full of love, humor, and memorable characters.
What a wonderful end to a marvelous series! It was such a refereshing change from the "norm" to read about an older married couple and their romance. I wish there were more books like this! I found myself admiring Boyd and Eve's longstanding romance, to then questioning how I would feel if I were presented a similar situation. This novel was well written with the perfect mix of flashbacks and current story telling to both develop the characters and allow the reader to understand their current thoughts and feelings. Like all other Calderone books, I could not put it down, and found myself reading, once again, until 2am! I cannot wait for Victoria Grant's next book. I am a true fan! The wit, passion, and delectable plots do not disappoint!
