Hoping to salvage whatever might be left of the faltering relationship he shares with his wife and sixteen year old daughter, Stan takes the two of them on a family vacation north of Los Angeles. But an incident on a stretch of California's Interstate 5, known as the Grapevine, only makes matters worse.
The family slowly comes to the realization that they, "aren't in Kansas anymore," when they find themselves seemingly stuck in the central valley with dust storms so fierce, they sand the paint of off cars and trucks down to bare metal, the eighteen-wheeler, big rigs bear down on them like predators to prey, and the line between the living and the dead becomes much too thin.
