Yamada and friends go on a mini vacation. There things happen such as getting sickies, fights with besties, and some making out. Adorable volume, and I love the direction we're going with out two main leads in love.
In which an errant condom instigates a number of ridiculous debacles.
Not my favourite volume of Dangers, I can safely say that much. The transition to Kyo and Anna dating with the definite elephant of sex in the room was very welcome and expected, so it’s not that.
However, this being a summertime study event, it embraces (in case the cover didn’t give it away) the sort of adolescent horniness that it typically either tackles with a more delicate touch or relegates to comic relief.
Part of this does get played for a laugh, but it is of the cringiest kind and it wasn’t the series’ A-game. That aside, there’s a lot more to like than dislike and it’s still quite strong, just not perfect.
There is a formula I’m noticing to these arcs and it is a good formula so I am not advocating that they change at all. Basically, things are super awkward and teenager-y and maybe misconstrued or whatever, and then Kyo comes through in the clutch.
So it goes here. That’s mixed in with several other interesting side plots; poor Moeka can’t catch a break this volume especially. She turns out to have a real issue with Anna, one that’s very relatable to Kyo, and the two girls have a very realistic teenage friends fight about it.
Naturally, Anna would love for Kyo to start taking the lead more, but he’s still grappling with his inferiority complex about dating her. This is an ongoing issue and it’s a good hook that love doesn’t just fix all their problems.
Shout-out as always to Kyo’s incredibly easygoing chemistry with Moeka. That seemed almost destined to become a problem and I’m impressed it hasn’t yet.
Everything comes to a head, er, or something when Kyo manages to step up as promised. Except, well, in addition to being far more forward than him, it’s pretty clear that Anna is already all ready, if you get the meaning.
It’s a really good look at two people in love who are not quite on the same page in terms of sex. Kyo’s flesh is willing, but mentally he’s not there. And to see a story looking at it from the side of a male in that position is darn refreshing. Welcome development, plus it’s a fun reminder that Anna is going to be a handful for him.
There are a couple spots that are a bit jumpy in terms of the narrative, where either scenes and dialogue don’t quite gel like they should. This is one of those things I always point out because I always find it rather jarring.
Otherwise? Good work on the whole. It looks like it’s going to be a very typical adventure, but it plays up what the series is strongest at and makes something unique with it after a while, which is much appreciated.
4 stars - great, not excellent. Tempting at least stick a bonus half star on it, the ending chapters really go down a treat, but I think it’ll just stay here for now.
literally cried over this little friends fight but they both care about each other and studying is important as well plus trust and personal time all of these things are important and need to be considered this arc was good making their friendship and relationship more strong!!
