I’m his prisoner, but he will kill anyone who dares touch me.
Xavier Todd is a ruthless enemy leader, and he should not have saved my life, nor stolen me away from the surface.
I cannot leave, yet I cannot sit idly by, so I do what I do gather information. Every secret I pull free goes straight to those who can put an end to the war between our people–permanently. Yet, Xavier is nothing like I was told he would be. He protects me, teaches me how to use my new found magic, and he calls to me in a way that defies all reason and logic. It is forbidden on both sides, but my magic flickers at every touch.
The more secrets that come to light, the more I realize the extent of the lies fed to my people, and what I have done will put me on the wrong side of Xavier’s divine violence.
My life and the lives of everyone I have grown to love hang in the balance. War looms on the horizon, and I, Celeste James, must choose between loyalty and destiny.

I was provided an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review. Below includes my own opinions, which are non-biased.
This premise of this story revolves around the Underground, a dystopian Divine faith-based community, and the Transcendent, a community that utilizes alien tech to evolve theirselves beyond the faults of humanity. These two societies long share a violent history, resulting in thousands of lost lives on each side. Our MMC and FMC fight for peace, however, are met with many oppositions.
Relevant tropes include Enemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity, and Forbidden Love.
Aspects that I struggled with were initially connecting with the story. It was hard to understand the concept of these two completely different colonies cohabitating their world, the FMC was intolerable, a few plot points required clarification, and the writing was sometimes repetitive. Most of these improved over time as we were further introduced to the infrastructures of each community and witnessed the character growth.
Points I valued were the authors affinity with visuals, perspectives, and plot twists . There was no denying the amount of time and effort put into world building. The story is told equally by both the MMC and the FMC. The story includes many twists that kept me engaged.
This is the authors debut and we know they have multiple other projects in the works. I look forward to seeing their growth as a writer with each story.
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this arc! All opinions are my own.
In Woven by Fate Celeste, a Transcendent human living in the tech-advanced world on the planet of Thiena. After an attack on her people, she come under the protection of Xavier, the Protector of the Children of Gaia who live in the Underground and reject the ways of the Transcendent. With tensions rising between the two nations who are on the brink of war, Celeste must navigate what she has been taught about the Underground and the truths that come to light in her time with Xavier.
This story beautifully combines an enemies to lovers romance with fantasy and sci-fi elements in an engaging dystopian society! The world is rich with a unique magic system based on gods and goddesses. The politics of the Underground and the Risen Government created so much tension, especially between Celeste and the Children of Gaia.
I really enjoyed learning about Xavier’s role as the Protector and his connection to the gods. He is a fierce and loyal leader who would do anything to protect his people. Celeste is an intriguing FMC. As the daughter of a government official, she is loyal to the Transcended, but she is so open to everything she sees and learns in the Underground.
My only critique is that the world-building was a bit confusing at the beginning; I found myself going back to the glossary to understand what was going on. I’d love to learn more about how the humans ended up on Thiena.
Overall a wonderful story and a strong debut! I can’t wait to read more from Autumn!
Stumbled across this novel at 1am on my tiktok thinking I was getting into a light fantasy read. *heh*
Woven by Fate is actually a really intricate, unique story that revolves more around politics and romance between two warring human-like peoples.
The over-world is run by the “dolls”—sci fi, futuristic people named bc of their plastic features & emotionless behavior (think: The Giver or Brave New World). They’re immortal, flawless, cold, “advanced.”
The underworlders, aka the “vermin” or the “impure”, are fae/elf like creatures with access to magic whom the over-world dolls see as “primitive” and “mentally ill”. They reject the dolls’ forms of science, the elixir of life, etc., and tension has been brewing between them for ages.
It’s basically sci fi versus fantasy. The main characters, of course, being from both sides of the war, but fated to be together. I wouldn’t really call it “enemies to lovers” more-so “star crossed lovers” since they CAN’T be together, but don’t really have a reason to hate each other.
And I loooved it.
It was a unique take on the sci fi & fantasy genres, with both sides having very complicated / grey characters & motives that slowly reveal themselves throughout the story. It’s a very he said she said situation. The romance was mild-slow-burn, with obvious external factors keeping them apart.
The plot dragged out from around 60% - 80%, but that might be my own inexperience with the sci fi genre & understanding the technical aspects of the world.
And my god—the world is so dense and real and intricate. If you love sci fi or fantasy or both you will love this. There were so many little aspects of the world that made it feel so tangible. Religions, superstitious beliefs, implanted chips. Everything was thought of. It had the “real life” texture of The Will of the Many and Mistborn.
My only real gripe with the novel is that the first chapter is more of a prologue, and while yes, is important to the plot, it isn’t really necessary to read and almost stopped me from continuing. But it was also so well written I don’t mind & I’m glad I kept going.
[that is the end of my spoiler free review]
A comment on the romance:
I wish the romance had been sped up maybe 10-15%. Xavier & Celeste hit their stride a *little* before the climax, and it was noticeable because the tension was so good. The chair scene? I was screaming at her for to her open her eyes. COMON GIRL. KISS HIM. JUST MUAH. 💋 The romance wouldn’t have felt drawn out if the tension build up hadn’t been so dang good but 🤷🏻♀️ And then the spring pools? I wanted to SLAP Dion for interrupting.
And the spice scenes?? 👏👏 I think they were unique & well written. It’s not a smut-demoninant book and absolutely doesn’t need to be. Excited to see what Hawthorne has in the future.
Thank you tiktok for this read & my lack of sleep today.
Woven by Fate is the debut standalone novel by Autumn Hawthorne. While a standalone, it will be a part of an inter-connected world. It releases on Paperback and Kindle Unlimited on February 12, 2025.
This Sci-Fi-esque, Post-Earth, Romantasy book was honestly nothing like what I expected it to be, probably because it is such a hard book to fit into one specific category. It's a hodge-podge of all the best aspects of so many different genres and types of books. It was such a fun read with emersive world building, and intricate magic system, and, of course, a swoon-worthy enemies-to-lovers plot.
Xavier and Celeste are our main characters in this standaone. Both are AMAZING characters. For starters, Celeste was such a refreshing FMC. It was so nice to see a plus-sized, curvy girl who is confident in her size and not ashamed of her curves. As a fellow curvy girl, it was so great to see. And Xavier... Xavier was a grumpy, dark and broody, tattooed, magic weilding masterpiece. He has all the potential to be the next great BookTok book-boyfriend. And the side characters were given the same thought and care in their execution as our MCs.
The world-building was absolutely incredible. Granted, a bit confusing to keep up with in the beginning, as with most fantasy books with intricate world building. It was beautifully done, and I'm very excited to see how it unfolds further in the authors next books in the interconnected world. The magic system and how it's tied to the gods is so beautiful and well thought out. It was so fun to learn more and more about it along side Celeste. And then, of course, there's the world building on the surface with the techologies which was just as other-worldly and intricate.
The storyline was new and refreshing, the plot delicately crafted. It was an incredible read from start to finish, and the more I learned about the world, the more I wanted to know.
I'm so excited to see what else this author releases.
Do yourself a favor, and pick up a copy of Woven by Fate when it comes out. It might surprise you.
Woven by Fate is a post-earth/dystopian fantasy/Sci Fi. So many good things wrapped into one beautifully written book. I'm surprised this is the authors debut novel considering the depth, intricit world building and character evolution. It's very immersive; it sucks you in and you don't want to be spit back out. It's a little hard to understand in the beginning and I had to re-read the first couple chapters and use the "guide" page which was extremely helpful. The map was also really informative.
I especially liked the curvy/ realistic FMC. The MMC is wonderfully grumpy and brooding and these two characters make a true enemies to lovers romance as they are on completely different sides made to believe the other is incompetent and inferior. I won't give anymore away so you'll just NEED to read it! You won't regret it, except that you'll be yearning for more 🩷
💚Political intrigue 💚Forced proximity 💚Enemies to lovers 💚Gods and goddesses 💚Dystopian 💚Slow burn 💚Forbidden romance 💚Magic
Thank you to Autumn Hawthorne for the Arc in return for my honest review. I will be reading this again and can't wait to see what you'll be coming out with next!
I received a copy directly from the author and all views are my own honest opinions
This is a 4.5 star read that deserves to be made into a movie! It’s not in my usual wheelhouse genre of what I normally read (I am not a sci fi fan per se) so take that with a grain of salt! This is not the “sprinkle” of sci fi fantasy.
We begin with how the world was invaded and harvested by aliens and how the humanity that was left became two different species- the Gaians and the Transcendent.
Gaians are humans with abilities of the gods. They are connected to the Gods themselves and some wield powers to aide them. Often called vermin or unclean by the Transcendent.
Transcendent are those with the alien blood in them and chips in their brains. Often called Dolls by the Gaians.
So what happens when a Doll is blessed by the Goddess and ends up in the arms and lands of the Protector of the Gaians? Can peace be reached? Or will they fail? Will the Risen Government condone a genocide of humanity itself?
Celeste and Xavier are THE best couple I have read so far. The tension and utter need for each other. And then there’s those tendrils that Xavier uses for reasons. Xavier is a consent king and takes it upon himself to ensure Celeste doesn’t have a baby if she doesn’t want to.
CW: My review doesn't have spoilers, but it might be a little spoiler-y ... maybe. Not more than the Author has shared, I don't think.

Autumn Hawthorne has created a stunning and richly imagined world that, a day later, has me wanting more. Woven By Fate is a captivating debut novel that blends high action sci-fi and romance in the best possible ways.
The first chapter pulls you into an energetic world where Hawthorne's vivid storytelling grasps you by the imagination. There is plenty of well detailed and graphic (but not super gory) action to keep the sci-fi/action/adventure fans engaged, all the while, the world building is exquisitely immersive and imaginative and kept my "right brain" in its happy place ... and wanting to know more.
The story itself centers on two groups of people who have been systemically engrained to view the other as inferior. I was excited about the political aspect of the story, how it was woven into the main characters' personalities, and how they worked to dismantle it. I will say that I thought I was going to be put off by some of the beliefs of the Children of Gaia due to my own religious trauma, but I was pleasantly surprised at how beautifully the gods and goddesses were portrayed ... and even more by how their belief system works.
Celeste and Xavier, our main characters, come from wholly different worlds and upbringings, but after the loss that both their people groups have suffered, they see the importance of peace between their people. Their story is full of emotional growth as they learn more about each other and the worlds around them. The tension between them is palpable, and there are so many witty yet heartfelt moments that weave their love story into something that is not only beautiful but also believable. Slow-burn, with lots of longing, fear of betrayal (not the cheating sort), and trust building. The little twist in their story (visions they have) actually made me so happy to read and help in understanding them a little more.
There is some spice - once they give in to the burn, but I wouldn't say that its too much. I mean, what is too much at this point, am I right?! I really enjoyed how magic was incorporated into the steamy scenes, I feel like too many Authors leave out the reality that vibrations, frequency, and magic are palpable energetic forces that make steam ... steamier.
I will admit that while there was resolution and HEA ... I want to know more about this rich world she has created. I'd love to learn more of the backstory on how they got to Thiena and what happened when they got there, more on Celeste's dad, and more about the Estedians ... but I understand one book can only give so much. I'm honestly hoping that the Author decides to continue with more of the story ... maybe a prequel?
After rereading, I've added the half star I originally docked for wanting more of the story. The Author has assured us there is more to come, and questions will be answered.
“Woven by Fate” is Autumn Hawthorne’s debut novel, and I thought it was an intriguing read that had a very unique premise.
The two main characters were Xavier and Celeste, and while they definitely didn’t get along at first, but as the novel progressed, so did their relationship.
I loved the world building, as well. It gave me enough background to understand what was happening, but it also wasn’t too much information thrown at me at once.
Xavier was the kind of leader who was willing to do anything to protect his people. He was a little grumpy at times, but I knew he had good intentions.
Celeste was such a fun and sassy character to read about. I loved how strong she was, and the way she fought for what she thought was right. All in all, I would recommend this book to dystopian fans!
I received this book as an ARC, but all opinions are my own!
I love nothing more than being immersed in a new world. I can't stop thinking about all of the upcoming stories. Xavier and Celeste feel so normal and relatable even while being anything but. So much adventure, romance, and action with enough spice 🌶 to feed the smut demon within! This was such a great read, and it's just begun 🙌 ❤️ You won't regret having this one on your TBR.
I received an arc copy of this book but all views are my own
Blimey, well, what a book! First of all, I love a map and a glossary in a book, it really helps me jump right in to the story instead of scratching my head. I needn't have worried, this book was great, the plot, the twists, the sass, the love! Fantastic. Highly recommend and cannot wait to see what comes next from this Author.
This book is major Fantasy vibes. The story starts off talking about a psychotic killer whom cuts people's heads off after he stabs them to death. He ended up stabbing the main character, but she took advantage of him and grabbed his knife and killed him.. When she started running she went to her family's portion of the castle and called and called for help while she laid there bleeding.. she didn't know whom would end up coming to save her!
Autumn Hawthorne has crafted an incredibly vivid and immersive world that still lingers in my mind long after finishing Woven by Fate. This debut novel masterfully blends high-action sci-fi with romance, creating an exhilarating read from start to finish.
From the intricate magic systems to rich, immersive imagery, Woven by Fate had me captivated. Hawthorne blends fantasy and sci-fi elements seamlessly, crafting a dystopian world filled with tension, divine intervention, and a deeply developed history. The setting feels organic and lived-in, making every twist and turn that much more compelling.
The story launches straight into high stakes—Celeste barely survives a brutal attack, only to find herself in the hands of her people’s enemy. As if that weren’t enough, she’s suddenly “blessed” by the Gods, something that shouldn’t even be possible. Trapped in the Underground—a resistance group that refuses the Elixir, a substance that halts aging but strips away magic—Celeste intends to use the opportunity to feed information to her father, a powerful member of the Transcended Council. But the more time she spends with the so-called “impure,” the more she begins to question everything she’s ever known. If the Gods aren’t real, why can she hear them?
Xavier, the leader of the Underground, is tasked with protecting his people at all costs. But when the Gods command him to protect Celeste—the daughter of his enemy—he has no choice but to listen. Their relationship is the epitome of a true enemies-to-lovers arc, where trust is hard-earned, perspectives shift organically, and emotions simmer beneath every interaction. This isn’t just tension for the sake of tension; Celeste and Xavier are fundamentally at odds, shaped by opposing ideologies, and the slow-burn romance between them feels authentic and well-developed.
One thing I absolutely loved was how the author handled perspective shifts. The way descriptions and perceptions changed depending on whose POV we were in was masterfully done. Hawthorne does an excellent job of illustrating propaganda, indoctrination, and the dangers of blind faith, showing how deeply ingrained beliefs can be rewritten when confronted with the truth. Seeing Celeste and Xavier evolve, not just in their relationship but in their understanding of the world, made their journey that much more compelling.
The world-building is intricate and layered, and while the beginning had a few moments that required some extra focus, the glossary helped ease the transition. Once immersed, the depth of the setting was well worth the effort.
As for the spice, it’s there—but it never overtakes the story. The tension builds beautifully, and when it finally ignites, the incorporation of magic into those moments makes them even more powerful. Too often, fantasy books neglect how energy, vibration, and frequency could enhance these scenes, but Hawthorne leans into it, making them feel truly magical.
While the book delivers a satisfying resolution and HEA, I can’t help but crave more from this world. There’s so much more I’d love to explore—how they arrived in Thiena, the history of Celeste’s father, and the mysterious Estedians. One book can only cover so much, but I truly hope Hawthorne expands on this universe, whether in a sequel or a prequel.
If you love sci-fi, action, and an enemies-to-lovers romance that feels raw and real, Woven by Fate is an absolute must-read.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Wow. Wow Wow Wow!! This was so good!! I’ll be reading this again for sure.
I’ve been craving a good sci-fi romance novel for the past year. I’ve read so many types of romance and none of them ever quite gave me what I get from reading sci-fi. But this freaking delivered!
Old magic with beautiful rituals & devotion, steamy romance, LGBTQIA+ normativity, a curvy, squishy heroine, aliens, advanced tech, incredibly unique utopian/dystopian world building: Woven By Fate has it all.
If you want to read something unique, fresh, deep & captivating - Woven By Fate is it.
Details:
I have so many words. This book is so good.
The Magic: IT’S. SO. GOOD. There are several types of magic & the way Hawthorne crafted them to all work together is incredible. I loved that the magic was not innate, and something only some are given. It’s so unique to each person and so unique to this book.
The world building: I was surprised over and over and over again that this is Hawthorne‘s first book. The depth of the world building is incredible. The book is filled with rich imagery that paints detailed pictures of both the natural and artificial aspects of this incredibly diverse world.
In the very beginning, it was a bit challenging to follow with so many unique terms & a new language. The glossary helped, though I wish it was a bit more robust as there were several things I only picked up through context since they weren’t in the glossary. However, because of the depth of detail & other incredible aspects of the world building, it became easier to follow & pick up things through context.
Main Female/Male Characters (MFC/MMC): Neither of them wanted the immense power they end up. Again, I loved that the magic wasn’t innate in this book; it adds such a delicious layer. Though the MMC was born into it, I love that he doesn’t carry his power with haughtiness or expectation. He knows who he is - but he also just wants to be himself. The MFC is a bit unsuspecting and watching her personality unfold through the twists of the story is beautiful. And then the way magic shows up with her?! WOW.
Romance & Spice: I love when people who aren’t supposed to like it each other, do! It’s a slow burn with a believable build. The characters fall & a plot twist reveals the true depth of their connection that I never saw coming. Speaking of… when I saw Hawthorne post on FB about the spice including MMC’s “magic tentacles” I had doubt that would work well & not be cringy. Wow - did she show me! It made so much sense & worked perfectly and was actually delicious.
I wanted to stay in this beautiful, color, dynamic world. I was sad when the book ended & really hope there will be more of this world & these characters in the future.
When the Gods tell you to protect a woman, even a woman on the opposite side, you listen. Xavier is tasked with the entire Underground, a group of humans who avoid the Elixir to stop aging and loss of magic that comes with it at any cost, and now this woman marked by the Gods who shouldn’t even be able to wield magic, too.
Celeste, daughter of a Transcended Council member and representation of everything the Underground hates, uses this opportunity of being trapped with them to turn the tables and feed information to her dad. Only the impure don’t seem that impure… and if the Gods aren’t real, why can she hear them?
Has anyone read the Uglies series??? Because it is a similar ‘upgraded perfection (but actually ignorant) humans vs primitive, magic wielding and (supposedly) ignorant humans’ vibe. Except way, way more fleshed out, multiple outposts, and Gods and enemies to lovers and prophecies and another planet entirely. Yeah, I’m in.
Huge kudos to the author’s writing because the two main characters start out on opposite sides and she does a beautiful job of completely changing perspective and belief systems between the POVs. I loved seeing the descriptions change based off the knowledge each one had or didn’t have. And also beautiful writing on propaganda and indoctrination and the dangers of ignoring both.
I felt so many emotions. Autumn will have you laughing out loud, gasping in surprise, and crying real emotions. This was a wild read and I blew through it! The beginning drops you in it immediately so it wasn’t a super quick catch up but she provides a glossary to flip back to as you go. I can’t wait for more from Autumn!
Thank you Autumn Hawthorne for my advanced reader copy! This is my honest review.
Woven by Fate is an enchanting debut fantasy novel that features meticulous world building, a beautifully developed forbidden romance with an enemies-to-lovers dynamic, and an intriguingly unique magic system. The dystopian, sci-fi aspect of this book was such an unexpected and exceptional twist.
This story revolves around two societies that see each other as inferior and sworn enemies. The Transcended use technology to transcend mortality, and see themselves as flawless. The Children of Gaia openly worship their divine beings, embracing magic as an integral part of their lives. A centuries-long struggle has pitted these two societies against each other, with peace remaining a distant dream. Or is that subject to change?
Celeste's father, a government official, has raised her to fear the Underground. She had always blindly trusted him, but everything changed on that fateful night when she was rescued by the one person she least expected - Xavier, their leader. A single touch revealed to the Protector of the Underground that Celeste, a Transcended of the Risen Government, possessed a divine blessing from their own gods.
This story takes us on a journey with Celeste and Xavier as they challenge everything they thought they knew about each other and their worlds. These two individuals face overwhelming adversity and opposition as they work together in pursuit of a peaceful resolution and a stronger bond between their peoples. As if things weren't complicated enough, they're also struggling with a forbidden desire for each other that would enrage both sides even further.
This book is full of non-stop action. I never found myself feeling bored while turning the pages. I found myself drawn to our feisty and independent FMC, all while developing a soft spot for our brooding, tattooed MMC. The magic system in this book is unlike anything I've ever seen and I'm dying to learn more. This has all the makings of a top fantasy pick for 2025.
A huge thank you to Autumn Hawthorne for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest opinion and reviews.
You might think combining sci-fi, fantasy, semi-urban, and semi-dystopian elements into one story would create an incoherent mess. But Autumn Hawthorne proves otherwise with Woven by Fate, an ambitious and stunning debut novel that delivers on nearly every front.
From the very first page, Hawthorne’s prose pulls you into a richly imagined world. Her writing shines with engaging and often witty dialogue, paired with vivid descriptions that paint breathtaking scenes in your mind. The world-building is especially remarkable: intricate and immersive without ever feeling forced or overwhelming. She masterfully balances exposition with action, giving readers just enough to grasp the stakes while keeping them eager to learn more.
The story centers on Celeste and Xavier, two characters from vastly different backgrounds striving to broker peace between their people. Their journey is packed with tension, growth, and moments that tug at your heartstrings. Without veering into spoiler territory, I can say the plot is layered and impactful.
One thing to note: the book doesn’t shy away from graphic violence. However, it’s not gratuitous. Every brutal moment serves the story and deepens your understanding of the characters’ motivations, making the stakes feel all the more real.
The reason this isn’t a full 5-star review lies in the ending. While Hawthorne does an excellent job wrapping up the main story arc, a few lingering questions about the world and its mechanics remain unanswered. It feels intentional—possibly leaving the door open for future exploration—but it left me wanting just a bit more clarity.
All in all, Woven by Fate is a remarkable debut that deserves a spot on any fantasy or sci-fi lover's shelf. Autumn Hawthorne has created a world and characters that stay with you long after the last page. Here’s hoping this isn’t the last we’ll see of them!
Fans of romantic fantasy will devour Woven by Fate from debut author Autumn Hawthorne. Hawthorne has created a rich tapestry of characters who find their fates interconnected in a world full of political intrigue, spiritual awakening, self-actualization, and escalating passion. Celeste and Xavier come from different worlds where the threat of war between their nations is ever present and growing. As Xavier and Celeste try to bridge tensions to create a lasting peace, outside forces work tirelessly to edge the two nations toward war.
Hawthorne’s world building is detailed and complex without overwhelming the plot or character development. Vivid descriptions immerse the reader in the lush world of those Underground as well as those who have Transcended. The witty banter between Celeste and Xavier helps shepherd the evolution of their relationship without feeling forced or formulaic. As Celeste struggles to accept the gifts and wisdom of the gods she was told don’t exist, she also learns to harness her own strengths and power to protect those she loves.
The result is an action packed work with enough violence and spice to satisfy both fantasy and romance readers. Hawthorne leaves readers with a satisfying ending and just enough unanswered questions to invite readers back into the world of Celeste and Xavier if she chooses to do so. Woven by Fate is must read for lovers of fantasy and romance and an engaging debut from Autumn Hawthorne!
The only reason this book took me two days to read is because life happened, it was so good I didn’t want to put it down! The setup of the characters gave you a good idea of their personalities while leaving just enough mystery that left you wanting to know more about them.
The slow burn and buildup of Xavier and Celeste was *chefs kiss*. I love a good enemies to lovers and the portrayal and development of their relationship, defying expectations of others in favor of their feelings despite their individual preconceived notions of each other. In addition to the FMC and MMC, the development of all the supporting characters really helped to develop the plot. Every single one of them played a vital role in the development of the story, again leaving enough room for development of their own tales (which I would love to read in the future).
The world that Hawthorne has built is portrayed through beautiful imagery largely centered around color and light, from the sickly color of the light shining through the leaves to the rainbow of light hues emitted directly from the various plants in the Underground. The visuals created of the differing landscapes between the various locations contributed to the development of not only the story but also the revelation that perhaps not all the stories are true- bias is everywhere and perhaps not everything is as it seems. I hope that Hawthorne continues to explore this world and take us along for the ride!
I recently finished reading Woven by Fate. It is a novel that explores the contrast between a dystopian society reliant on magic and a society driven by advanced technology. The story follows Celeste from the technology-driven society and Xavier from the dystopian world. Their interactions and the blending of their worlds to generate peace between their lands creates a compelling narrative filled with tension, adventure, and thought-provoking themes.
The author does an excellent job of world-building, vividly describing the stark differences between the two societies. The magic in the dystopian world is both enchanting and haunting, while the technological advancements in the evolved society are impressive and unsettling. The characters are well-developed, and their relationship adds depth to the story, making it more than just a clash of worlds.
However, while the book is captivating and engaging, the ending leaves a lot to be desired. There are numerous loose ends and unanswered questions that left me feeling unsatisfied. I was hoping for more resolution and clarity, especially regarding the backstories of the main characters and the ultimate impact of their actions on their respective societies and backstories on their respective worlds. I feel there is a possibility for a sequel.
Overall, it's a gripping read with a unique premise, but be prepared for an open-ended conclusion that might leave you wanting more.
I had the opportunity to receive an ARC of Woven by Fate, and I truly appreciate the chance to explore a new author’s work. While the premise had potential, this book ultimately didn’t resonate with me.
The story blends science fiction and fantasy, which could be an exciting combination, but I found it difficult to follow the plot at times. The mix of genres felt muddled, and I was often unsure about the rules of the world or the stakes of the characters’ actions. That said, the magic system did seem interesting, and I wish there had been more information about how it worked or its significance in the story.
One of my main struggles was with the characters and their interactions. While I didn’t find them particularly grating, the lack of chemistry between the main characters made it hard to root for their journey. Additionally, the dialogue often felt stilted and unnatural, making the emotional moments less impactful.
The writing itself didn’t work for me either. There were moments where the author used phrases that felt out of place or overly dramatic, such as describing a character as “wrath incarnate” without much evidence to back it up in their actions. It gave the prose a disjointed feel.
That said, I appreciate the effort that went into creating this book and the ambition of weaving two complex genres together. While it wasn’t for me, I’m sure readers who enjoy intricate genre mashups or unique magic systems may find something to love here.
Note: I received an ARC copy of this novel. The Magic system was very interesting and a very unique experience. I really enjoyed that part of the story. So much of the dialogue felt stilted and unnatural. There wasn’t any chemistry between the FMC and MMC, in my opinion, because the dialogue just did not flow and it didn’t feel natural. There wasn’t any banter. There was no real tension build up. I just felt the romance part of this was lacking. I have more questions than answers about the transcendents and everything that went into that. I feel like so much of this story was surface level and I was lacking so much information to tell me about the characters and what drove them to be who they were. Additionally, I felt like the alien aspect of this book was really glossed over and used more as a plot device rather than adding anything meaningful to the story line. We got bits and pieces throughout the story, but not enough to really frame the whole picture. I wanted more about the deities and more about their gifts and just more in general. This story had so much promise and had the foundation to be a truly excellent book, but between the stilted dialogue and overall lack of cadence, plus the lack of information, just made it hard for me to get immersed in this world and become invested in the characters and story.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This in no way impacted my opinions.

‘Woven by Fate’ by Autumn Hawthorne transports readers into a world brimming with intrigue, layered characters, and hints of deeper complexities. The story lays the foundation for a tale filled with potential, weaving together elements of character growth, lore, and unfolding mysteries. While my experience with the book was mixed, there are standout aspects worth noting.
Plot: ★★★☆☆ The plot intrigued me right from the start. There's a promising foundation with an interesting setup that hints at deeper twists and turns down the line. Since I haven’t read the entire book, it’s hard to give a full verdict, but the beginning certainly lays the groundwork for something engaging. I just wish it had a bit more momentum to hook me completely.
Character: ★★★☆☆ Celeste was a bit of a challenge for me initially. She comes off as bratty and difficult, which made it hard to connect with her. That said, as the story progressed, she started to show a more relatable side, and I could see potential for her character growth. Xavier, on the other hand, felt like someone I could root for early on. He’s interesting, though he seems quite young and naive. Still, there's something about him that feels genuine and likable.
Setting: ★★★☆☆ The worldbuilding in ‘Woven by Fate’ is solid, with layers of lore that add depth to the story. It wasn’t as fantasy-rich as I had hoped, but there’s no denying the effort put into creating the setting. It felt like there was more to uncover, which could be really rewarding for readers who dive deeper.
Engagement: ★★★☆☆ I struggled to fully engage with the book, though I suspect this might have more to do with my mood at the time than the book itself. Sometimes a story just doesn’t click right away, and I do think if I revisit it later, I might have a different experience. There’s enough there to warrant giving it another shot when I’m in the right headspace.
Readability: ★★★★☆ One of the book’s strengths is its readability. The writing flows well, making it easy to follow. There are a few parts where additional details would have helped to clarify the plot or setting, but overall, it’s quite accessible.
Enjoyment: ★★★☆☆ While I didn’t enjoy ‘Woven by Fate’ as much as I had hoped, I do see its potential. It has an interesting premise, and with more time and the right mindset, I think I could appreciate it more.
‘Woven by Fate’ didn’t fully capture me, but it’s clear that Autumn Hawthorne has a knack for building intriguing worlds and characters with room to grow. I’d recommend this book to readers who enjoy character-driven stories with layered worldbuilding - and who might have more patience with challenging protagonists than I did. I’m open to giving it another read in the future, as I feel there’s more to discover beyond those first chapters.
Thank you Autumn for giving me the opportunity to read your debut! I received an advance copy but this review is my own. The story grabbed me from the beginning. It was thought-provoking and I could really feel what the MCs were feeling. Their emotions ranged from love and hate to distrust and disgust. This is an enemies-to-lovers, science fiction post-Earth, religion-based, fantasy romance. The world Autumn created is incredibly interesting. I will say however that I really struggled in the beginning with all of the names and titles. That was the cause of the 4 stars instead of 5. The magic system was new and refreshing, the environment was described beautifully, the FMC was curvy and comfortable with it, the MMC was broody and very protective. They’re each very strong on their own but their interactions with each other and the side characters really brought them to a whole new level. There’s politics, religion (gods, goddesses, prophets, fanatics, and worshippers), magic, good, evil, love, hate, found family, and a really awesome mama bear moment! This was a fun read and I highly recommend it!
This book is a fantasy with a spattering of romance. Our FMC and MMC are on two different sides of a conflict however this is not an enemies-to-lovers situation. This book has a density to it that you would expect to find in a new fantasy with an incredibly unique world building. There were components of alien (surprisingly was not expecting this back story), mystical (gods and reincarnation), and essentially eugenics (think Uglies style). While there was a density to this story it was a pleasant experience. I enjoyed the characters and the different blending of world building g components. There is a spattering of romance however it is not the primary focus; it is fantasy WITH romance not romance WITH fantasy. There are some off shoot POV chapters from non-MCs which gives a more rounded look at the entire story and gives the reader depth/background into some of the enemy components. Overall if you are looking for a in-depth fantasy that is different from what is normally seen at the moment then I would say this book is for you! I did receive this book as part of an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
“”So I am a prisoner then?””If you want to act like a brat, then yes.””Excuse me? You abducted me!””
“”What does bother me is how often you brush with death. Stop trying to die on me blondie.” “I make no promises” she smiled.”
This was such an interesting story, I was so interested from the beginning to learn more about this world that Autumn had created. Nothing is as it seems and we get to watch it all unfold.
A world on the bring of war, an unwanted alliance, and undeniable tension…. This book had me hooked from the beginning. The intricate world-building that was easy to follow, and slow building chemistry between the leads kept me flipping pages, eager for the next page.
Kidnapped by her enemy, the FMC refuses to make things easy (HELLO! Banter), constantly challenging him. He may be forced to protect her, but that doesn’t mean he has to like it…too bad fate has other plans. With high stakes action, a gripping plot, and just the right amount of spice this is perfect for a romance reader interested in fantasy.
Disclosure: I received this book as an ARC. This review is my own, honest opinion.
Autumn Hawthorne has created something incredible here. I was caught up in the story from the beginning, and when I absolutely had to stop reading (a girl has to sleep sometime!), I couldn’t wait to get back to the book. The characters are multi-dimensional, for the most part, and are complex. They make mistakes, sometimes big ones, and there are consequences for their actions. Hawthorne really succeeds in giving each of the main characters a specific style of speech that fits their personality and the narrative. I was left with questions about the world and the characters that I’d love to see answered in another book; a good sign that I loved the story.
The book contains some tough subjects-domestic violence, colonialism, and war to name a few-but are handled with care and respect. The issues are not “both sided”; it is clear when someone is wrong and when someone is right.
The spice (using Threads user sapphylore’s Spice Girl system: Ginger Spice 🥵 (Shadow Daddy! 😈)
This book takes readers on an immersive journey with its complex world-building, though it can be a bit overwhelming at first due to time jumps and unfamiliar terminology. The glossary and map were lifesavers, helping me keep track of the intricacies. Some perspectives outside the main character’s storyline initially felt disconnected, but they added depth and hinted at larger, untold stories that intrigued me. Celeste's character development was stunning; watching her evolve was a highlight of the story. Xavier’s struggles with his position and desire to simply be himself felt incredibly relatable, making him a character I really connected with. The growing bond between Celeste and Xavier added a beautiful layer to the narrative, deepening my emotional investment in their journey.

Thank you to Autumn for sending me an ARC copy of this debut book in exchange for my honest review!
I would lean more toward 3.5 stars. I've been struggling to find the words to review this book. I was really excited to read it, and I really wanted to love it, but I just didn't. I received an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review, so I finished it - but it was a bit of a struggle.
I'll start by saying that I believe there is a large audience of people who would really enjoy this book, I'm just not sure I was one of them. I think the timing of my reading played a big part and I do plan on giving it another try in the future.
If you like a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, "enemies" to lovers, prophecies and gods, spice, and a reluctant chosen one situation, you will probably enjoy this read.
What worked for me: The world-building was good and felt fresh. The main plotline and action were interesting. The complicated character relationships and dynamics added depth to the story. The relationship between Xavier and Celeste when they were together. He was a really great, consistent, and likeable MMC.
What didn't work for me: The relationship between Xavier and Celeste felt like it shifted from "enemies" to lovers really quickly; I was almost confused. I had to go back and see if I missed something. Certain settings/situations were almost over-described or overexplained. & On the contrary, it felt like certain aspects weren't explained enough, which made parts of the story feel inconsistent. It felt like some things were added to the story to check off a trope list. They didn't really add anything beneficial; they were just there to be there.
Overall, I would say definitely give it a try; you may love it as so many others have!
In this standalone novel, Autumn Hawthorne does a wonderful job of immersing us into her world. She keeps you entertained throughout this entire book and it keeps you coming back for more! I was hooked after the first few chapters.
This romantasy gives readers everything they could hope for. Forced proximity, enemies to lovers, a creative magic and belief system, and imaginative world building. The belief system was meticulously thought out, this might’ve been my favourite part! It was so fun learning about a new (although not real) culture. Autumn gives us so much detail concerning all the deities, their gifts, and does a wonderful job in helping readers understand, with the help of her thoughtfully added glossary! We get our HEA and all conflicts have a resolution.
All in all, a truly enjoyable read! I felt privileged to be able to be selected for this ARC & all opinions are my own :) Definitely recommend adding this book to your TBR, you will not be disappointed!

“Woven by Fate” by Autumn Hawthorne was such an absolutely delicious read. I could not put it down! She brought a confident and beautifully curvy FMC that takes no bull. It was so awesome and refreshing being able to see a FMC be plus sized and it NOT be the whole story. The author did an amazing job with the representation. Then there was her counterpart. Tall , dark , tattooed, and grumpy(no! I’m not drooling you are!) I’ll just say that Hawethorne did an absolutely amazing job on her characters. I want to leave this spoiler-less(I will give some tropes at the bottom because who doesn’t like seeing the tropes?)so I won’t go into the world building(it was fan-freaking-tastic!! I was left in aweeee). But I do highlyyyyyy recommend going and getting a copy as soon as it’s out. You won’t be disappointed.
