Rate this book
The Buddha did not teach his lay disciples to neglect their social responsibilities and royal duties. This book contains three articles which throw light on the guidance given by the Buddha to kings and their councils on protecting their kingdom.

The first article is titled ‘Defense against External Invasion’ and contains details of seven principles and Nagaropama Sutta. It also describes how Emperor Asoka, who loved his subjects like his own children, made exemplary security arrangements within his empire for their protection using these principles.

The second article is titled ‘How to Defend the Republic’ and contains the discourse given by the Buddha to Licchavis at Vesali along with the history of Licchavis and Vajjian Republic related to this context.

The third article is titled ‘Why was the Sakyan Republic Destroyed?’ and presents the real facts from authenticated sources and reveals that these kingdoms got destroyed because they did not follow the teachings of the Buddha. It also describes the eternal principles to protect and prosper one’s kingdom which are relevant even today.

This book is ideal for Vipassana meditators as well as non-meditators.
