PRIDE: A Kingdom of One

Rate this book
PRIDE – A Kingdom of One delves deep into the destructive nature of pride, revealing how it isolates individuals and ultimately leads to spiritual and emotional ruin. Pride, often disguised as self-confidence or ambition, is a silent enemy that creeps into the heart, leading one to believe they are superior, self-sufficient, and above others. But as this book explores, pride is not only the root of division—it is the very force that drives people into solitude, leaving them isolated from the love, support, and connections that are essential to a meaningful life.

In PRIDE – A Kingdom of One, the journey of understanding the corrosive power of pride unfolds, showing how it separates individuals from their relationships, their communities, and, most tragically, from God. Through scriptural examples, historical figures, and contemporary stories, this book illustrates how pride leads to the downfall of marriages, friendships, careers, and even entire societies.

At its core, pride builds a "kingdom of one," where the individual is surrounded only by their own inflated sense of importance, cut off from true companionship and understanding. The book reveals how this self-imposed isolation ultimately leaves a person alone in their pride, with nothing but the echoes of their own arrogance to keep them company.

Through this powerful exploration of pride’s ultimate consequences, PRIDE – A Kingdom of One calls readers to humility, repentance, and a return to selflessness, reminding us that only through humility can we build the meaningful connections that bring true joy and fulfillment.

This book is very well written and much needed in the world today. I find the timing of its publication very much in tune, as Elder David A. Bednar just gave a talk about pride during October 2024 General Conference.

The author references talks from various General Authorities and links it all in with stories from the scriptures about pride. Society is being influenced today, so that people judge and compare and this leads people into becoming prideful and thinking they are better. It is a trap I have personally fallen into in the past and soon learnt that staying humble is the antidote. This book is not only a great read but a book I will come back to as a reference and reminder of how important being humble is.

Highly recommended book to have in one's gospel library.
