They have deceived the humans, led them to believe they’re archangels, ruling over the world for far too long.
But the bird shifters have nothing angelic or good.
They maim, they torture, they kill.
When they don’t toy with people’s brains…
That’s what happened to my father. That’s what happened to my other half, Léandre.
I found the first, his skull open on an operation table, after he was taken prisoner, and the second still has a chip in his brain, ready to blow up his mind.
My world is one thread away from unraveling.
But I won’t let them win.
My name is Cassiopé. I’m a bat-shifter, a vampire, as humans like to call us, and those birds are going to pay for what they’ve done to the men I love.
The start to Even Vampires Bleed is interesting, as it actually takes you back in time a few days from the ending of the first book, and you get to experience the end of book 1 from FMC Cassiope's perspective. I really liked how the author did this so that instead of starting from the end of book 1, we get to the full experience that Cassiope goes through with MMC Leandre and her dad. Cassiope goes with the team to Blois to help rescue her dad (Brice) and the others that were captured by the birds (on their mission to eradicate the servers that linked to Leandre's brain chip). They find Brice in a state nobody could imagine, but he is alive. Unfortunately, after everything that the Notre Dame team went through to ensure Leandre's memories couldn't be wiped, the new "Archangels" manage to push that button anyway. Cassiope is left completely heartbroken, and instead of letting the sadness take over, she decides to take action.
I love Cassiope's character! She goes from the girl who doesn't cuss and is always in the library reading, to a true warrior out for revenge. First, working with the human resistance movement. Then she is somewhat forced to go spend one on one time with Leandre, in a far away place where no reception can reach so that his brain chip cannot be activated again. This is Cassiope's worst nightmare, she wants nothing to do with Leandre, he is just some guy inhabiting the body of the person she loved. But, OMG, when she takes blood from Leandre, and the rush it gives them both, I loved learning about how the bats used to drink blood and where the vampire lore about them came from.
Leandre does not have to experience the torture of having known himself and forgetting, because, well his memory was wiped. He does know how to function and speak, but has no idea that he and Cassiope were together. He sort of just assumes he did something to piss her off as she prefers to avoid him. Yet, when they are stuck together, Leandre cannot keep his mind off Cassiope, and the dirty things he wants to do to her. And of course....there is only one bed. Will they be able to resist each other?
Also, to what lengths is Cassiope willing to go in order to allow Leandre to live safe again? You will have to read to find out!
Some Fav Quotes: "I'm just a stranger to him. And he's just a stranger wearing the face of the man I was falling in love with."
"...today I woke up angry. I woke up angry at the world. I woke up angry at a dead man. I woke up angry at a couple of assholes. And oops, yea, now I swear. But I also woke up angry at my best friend and the man I was falling in love with."
"Because instead of my worst nightmare, it's my wettest dream that comes forth, and I'm not ready. Leandre. Elhyor sent Leandre."
"And now I have all those feelings that make me feel like my heart has been dropped in a blender at full speed, and there is no way to piece it back together."
""Even vampires bleed," he says with a chuckle..."
"I'll make her sit on my face tonight and everything will be better."
"Yes, I'm so freaking happy. I might have started a war two days ago, but everything is going to be alright."
"One freaking bed. I read books. I read romance books."
I started this book going in as a stand alone, but I quickly realized I missed out. I made it to chapter 16 and decided I needed to go back to the beginning and read Even Angels Fall. If you haven't already, I'd start there. Unless you don't mind what felt to me as a mid story pick up and left with some back story questions.
I really enjoyed reading this series. The story plot was good, and I felt it was written well. There were even small twists I didn't see coming. Since this is the second book in the series, we're of course following another couple and the blooming of their relationship. As for the spice level, I'd rate it 3/5. Now that I'm into the beautiful world of shape shifters, I can't wait to see what we have left to explore, who falls in love next, and where it leaves our original characters.
They have deceived the humans, led them to believe they’re archangels, as they take over the world, but there’s nothing angelic or good about the bird shifters; they are pure evil.
They maim, they torture, and they kill.
That’s what happened to Cassiopé’s father and her other half, Léandre.
After her father was taken prisoner, Cassiopé, at the end of a rescue mission, found him on an operating table, his skull open, and Léandre, he still has a chip in his brain, and that chip is ready to remove all memories from his mind.
Her world is one thread away from unravelling.
But this little firecracker won’t let them win.
This badass, bat-shifter, vampire, is going to make sure those birds pay for what they’ve done to the men she loves.
I thoroughly enjoyed Cassiopé and Léandre in Book 1. Although Book 1 wasn’t about them, they were intriguing, and they gave me more than enough to be obsessed with them. When I found out Book 2 was their moment, I, of course, dove RIGHT IN. And yes, I loved it. I loved them. I loved them so much; this book sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions that I’m not sure I’m ready to forgive the author. There were moments of awe, there were moments of shock, and there were moments of pure chaos, and my heart could barely handle it all. I read through this so quickly that I got whiplash from tossing my head from page to page. Cassiopé is just an all-around great character. She has an aura of innocence, but she is a strong, independent woman who will do whatever it takes to save her loved ones. It’s so inspiring, I love it! To me, she has a lot of depth, and that’s what I want in a character. Cassiopé and Léandre went through a lot in this book, and even I was frustrated at times, but it helped them grow together, and I appreciated it, despite having my heart broken multiple times. I’m here for them, and I will always be.
I enjoyed this book a lot, if you couldn’t already tell. One thing I want to mention in particular is the preparation required for a shifter to go on a mission. I enjoy a good shifter book, however, so often, they just shift, and I’m like what about the clothes? What’s going on with the clothes? Is that important? Maybe not, but I am who I am, and I need to know the clothes situation. We understand that in this book, there’s a strategy behind how they transport bags, clothes, etc., and I don’t have to wonder, because it’s part of the strategy, and I appreciate that a lot. I love the intensity of these books; it's quite powerful. As a reader, I feel the intense atmosphere, which adds a great deal to the story. The dialogue is effective, and the characters' emotions are well-crafted. It’s just all around a great series so far. I could go on, and on, but it’s time to read Book 3. SO, if you haven’t read Book 1, go do that. If you’ve read Book 1 and haven’t gotten to Book 2 yet, I highly suggest you do that, time's ticking, Book 3 has been released, and Book 4's release date is just around the corner.
I'm so happy we got to see Léandre and Cassiopé's story in book two! The small glimpses we had in book one were amazing, but their story was even more incredible.
I wasn't expecting Cassiopé to be such a baddie, and I loved it. She has this innocent and cute feeling, but it was absolutely amazing to see her embrace this powerful woman that doesn't back down and does everything in her power to protect her loved ones.
On the other hand, Léandre being as selfless as he could be for her was the most wholesome thing ever. How their love evolved was beautifully done.
EV did an amazing and well-rounded book from start to finish. It has a good plot, storyline, more amazing spice, and a well-developed love story. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
If you know a little bit about me, you know that I am dissapointed by second books in the series more often than not. But in this case I was so pleasantly surprised to not only like the book but actually love it. And that coming from the biggest hater of second books in the world is a lot to say. ⠀ The good thing about this book is that is part of interconnected stand alone series. So you can read only this one and you won’t be missing anything. But honestly just stop whatever you are doing and read Even Angels Fall if you haven’t already. And if you have just get ready for March 28th when Even Vampires Bleed gets released. ⠀ This book follows Cassie who was one my favorite characters from Even Angels Fall. And we get all the preamble and context of what happened on book 1. But from there we go through a whole journey on self discover and so many things happening with the archangels and the human rebels and with the characters. So even if this books is way slower than the first book it was so entertaining that you won’t be able to put this book down for just one single second. I mean I binged this book in less than a day. ⠀ So I liked a lot of things about this book. Starting with the fact that we get to learn more about the rebels and how they operate. And I loved to see how Cassie gets involved with them, and the reasons behind it. It was such a great divide for some character development. And she is such an interesting character to read from. When we first met her she feels like she might be a perfect side quick, but she is an even better main character. Leandre also had an amazing development: I loved this book from book one, but with what happened to him how it turns out, it’s something that I really enjoyed and I think it worked really well for the plot. ⠀ Another great thing about this book is the slow-burn, as well as the “enemies to lovers” mixed with the second chance romance. I really enjoyed the whole romantic plot of this book a lot. Which considering that we are in a fantasy world with sci-fy elements, is really important that I have been able to focus on other than that as, I am a huge geek when it comes to those things. ⠀ Plot-wise I think this book sets the tone really well for what it is to come. And I have a bunch of theories about what is going to happen and how is going to happened. And I cannot wait to see if I am right or not. I love the feeling you get when you have theories and then you get shocked and I am pretty sure that is what will happen on the next installments in the series. ⠀ Overall this is book that I enjoyed a lot. And I highly recommend that you go to check it
Thank you deeply to the author for sharing a BETA version of this book with me !!!
“Why do you think I’m going to run away?” … “Because you feel like a dream, and I don’t want to wake up”
“You’re like fireflies, sometimes it feels like you’re all bright and then I look at you and all the light has been deemed. You just don’t shine for me”
“Tell me to stop, Firefly. Tell me, because I wish I was a better man, but I want you so much and I’ll take whatever you’ll let me have”
Cassiopé and Léandre are now our main characters … and what a wild ride was their story!!!! I devoured this book in less than 24 hours and I already feel like I need to reread book one and this one back to back so that I can be ready for what the author has planned in the future (even though I think I might have an idea of what’s to come). I loved it. I absolutely loved it! There was no enemies to lovers this time around. The romance started very early on and blossomed in a very kind and gentle way. But it is doomed. He still has a chip in his head that could turn on any minute. And it’s only when all hell starts to break loose that the complications finally arrive. This book made me feel all sorts of feelings. I was sad, angry, frustar ted, murderous, happy, elated, hot and bothered and so many other things it would take too long to list. It put me out of what I was feeling was about to be one of the worst reading slump of my life. Cassiopé is such a relatable character. Aside from the fact that she is a sunny and beautiful bookworm, she is one of the strongest characters I have ever met and ready to try and take over the world by herself just to protect those she loves. Such an inspiration !!! And Léandre … damn how I fell for that man !!! The man who lost everything and yet is still there trying to find the good in the bad, the sun in the rain. He is so damn respectful towards her I was about to sign a petition to make him a real life man !!!! It’s definitely climbing high in my list of book boyfriends though!!! And the mouth he has on him !!!! Boy, how I felt it !!! I loved them deeply and I can’t wait for more !!!
“Who did this to you?”
“Yes, I’m on the bed at three in the afternoon, basking in Cassiopé’s scent. I’m a creep. Sue me”
Even Vampires Bleed is book 2 in the Even Ever After Series. Not having read book 1 Even Angel's Fall I was able to follow along as if it were a stand alone. Cassiopé and Léandre have such a conundrum.
Léandre has been microchiped to erase his memories. How much? No one knows. All the discover is it's a switch that could go off whenever the Angel's please.
Wars being battled with power and control in mind Cassie has to hold onto what she feels is right and standing up for it while Léandre learns more about who he is.
This love story will have you excited, weeping and laughing all while trying to discover what will happen next as the plot and tendrils of situations open broader.
Spice is delicious and sprinkled in the book perfectly. ✨️📚✨️
Another fantastic story by EV! 🙌 Book 2 in the Even Ever After Series
Genre: Fantasy Romance
Tropes: • She’s a bat shifter / he’s a cockatoo • Who did this?! • One Bed • Amnesia • Female Rage •Found Family • Grumpy/sunshine • Forced Proximity
Fantastic read to the series. Always keeps me on the edge guessing what’s going to happen next. And yet again has me in a chokehold where I don’t want to put it down. Fantastic and would recommend giving it a read! 🫡🫶
Thank you so much E. V. Sauvage for the ecopy of Even Vampires Bleed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Even Vampires Bleed is book 2 in the Even Ever After series and picks up right where book 1, Even Angels Fall, left off. This time, we get bat-shifter, Cassiopé, and Léandre’s story as the residents of Notre Dame Cathedral grapple with the fallout of the shocking conclusion of book 1. Their story is heartbreaking, full of angst and longing, and features lots of emotional healing.
I really appreciated that author E. V. Sauvage began the book with a brief recap. There was so much that happened at the end of Even Angels Fall that I needed that refresher in order to prepare myself for the story ahead. I also loved getting brief glimpses of the MCs of book 1, Angélique and Elhyor, throughout the story! I absolutely love it as a reader when we get to see how previously featured couples are doing now.
If you’re a fan of slowburn romance with a healthy heap of emotional devastation, you’re going to absolutely adore Cassiopé, and Léandre! Although this couple has been through it, they always seem to find a way back to each other and come out stronger for it. The book ends with a huge “what if” for these two and I can’t wait to see how things shake out for them next!

I absolutely loved this one! I'd highly suggest that you read this series in order. While you probably could jump into this one, things will make SO much more sense if you read the first book.
I'd been so eager for Cassiope and Leandre's story, you have no idea. And I knew it would be an emotional one, but even I wasn't prepared for the emotional journey these two would go through before they got their HEA.
Fans of grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, an amnesia story, shifters, and some found family vibes will really enjoy this one!
EV Sauvage has a unique writing style, it's very direct and quick moving. There were a couple times I worried it got a bit too much telling instead of showing, but then the story just kept moving right along and me along with it. There's just something about her writing style that does really pull me in.
The very last chapter sets things up for the next story - and also more characters are introduced in this one who I want stories for now too! I'd love to know more of the humans and also the non-avian shifters.
This is such a fun world - full of shifters, a good vs evil overall fight, all set in the beautiful backdrop of Paris, France. I cannot wait for more from this author and this world!
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.
I picked up a copy of the second in the Even Ever After series and really enjoyed it. The story overlaps with the first book and whilst there is a story line that runs through both books, everything relevant in book 1 was nicely summarised in this book.
One thing I loved was that whilst the characters from book 1 are present, their story wasn't overpowering this story. Sometimes in a series, I find that a relationship becomes dominant and detracts from the new story, but that wasn't the case here. Whilst the characters from book one are present, the focus is on Cassiopé and Léandre, their issues, their struggle, their emotions.
I loved Cassiopé and her turmoil, I felt for her and what she lost, and the fears she had about what could happen in the future. Cassiopé, like Angélique in book one, is strong and independent, a female lead who is able to defend herself, even if she has her own flaws and insecurities.
Thoroughly enjoyed this, and looking forward to the next one in the series.
You will want to have read Even Angels Fall first as the beginning of the story happens simultaneously with events that happen in there and will help with any confusion. This story is told from the POV of Cassiope and Leandre who are both in Even Angels fall and is their view of the events that occur and what happens after. It shows that true love really transcends all
⇝ Calliope is a bat shifter who can’t stop yapping. Léandre is an adorable, cinnamon roll cockatoo shifter. They couldn’t be more perfect for each other. Until disaster strikes, and their world topples upside down.
⇝ The one bed trope strikes again. The tension, the heartbreak, the angst. It’s all there in this enjoyable, futuristic story that had me rooting for the characters right up to its satisfying end.
I liked this book. I probably liked book 1 a little more, but I enjoyed this world the author built and the different lore. This book picks up near the end of book one but gives us Cassie and Leandre’s viewpoint. I feel like you’ll enjoy this book best if you read the other book first. It was enjoyable to learn more about these characters and meet some new ones. I can’t wait to read book 3 and learn about Elis and the whale shark he saved.
I am of the belief that E.V. Sauvage operates on a level far above most other authors. Not only is her concept absolutely brilliant, but there are several stylistic choices for this book that demonstrate her mastery of different voices and her understanding of the modern reader.
- The Introduction- The first 65 pages show how well Sauvage understand readers who are reluctant to jump in to unfinished series or who don't have the time to re-read an entire book when they know the series will overlap. If you read book 1 in preparation for the release of book 2- I would HIGHLY recommend skipping to page 65 and starting from there. Sauvage has very effectively made this a stand alone book, even while it has recurring characters from book 1 by rehashing several scenes from the previous book to give readers the same background into Cassie and Léandre's relationship. While some scenes are now told from a different POV and have small changed details - and yes there is a somewhat ick spicy scene added (because do we really like a bossy male virgin who learned from reading romance books?)- these chapters were unnecessary for someone who has just read those same scenes the day before but CRUCIAL for readers who haven't picked up book 1 in a while or who want to jump into the series at this book.
-Cassiopé- Cassiopé's voice nails the anxious ADHD brain with too many thoughts in her head and is consistent with the portrait we were given from Angélique's POV in book 1. It takes a little getting used to, especially because the story is told primarily from her perspective, but you can really see how well Sauvage has captured her voice whenever Leandré's POV is shared with his much more brusque style. What I love about Cassie is that she is so different from your typical FMC. She's in her 30s (and still lives at home- if living in a giant Church can be considered that), and she has no combat experience and no training arc. That doesn't mean that she doesn't do really cool things, but she's not instantly good at everything she tries (pottery) and it makes her really relatable.
-The Even Ever After World- I cannot understate how much I appreciate the overall concept of this series. From the way in which bird shifters took advantage of Christian religions to subjugate humans, to the ways in which folklore is twisted by shifters and by Sauvage to show us something we are familiar with, but changed in subtle ways. Cassie's ability to drink blood as a vampire shifter is just one example, for in this book we are briefly introduced to mermaids (fish -or whale shark- shifters) and fairies (butterfly shifters) and I just know Sauvage has thought this out in ways we can't even begin to expect. One small detail that really demonstrates how well Sauvage has theorized shifter culture is the many references to how normalized it is for shifters to be naked since they live in an entire society that is forced to go without clothes every time they shift- and the impact that this culture has on body image.
-In this life and the next- I have to say, I didn't really feel the chemistry between Cassie and Léandre until the very end of the book (but maybe I was not supposed to). The philosophical question though of whether you can still love someone who has lost all their memories and does not know who they are (or could become someone different) is beautifully answered. While the angst, tension, and miscommunication as a result of this exploration feels drawn out, when the characters finally do talk to one another and express their feelings, it's definitely thought provoking and hard hitting. It's slightly diluted, however, by an unexplained fated mate attraction where bodily attraction (and magic) certainly seems set on drawing the two characters together, but Sauvage subtly highlights the significance of free will and the power of the brain to fight against heavily foreshadowed fate. And while personally I'd have preferred more theft and assassination attempts over the incredibly long stay in the woods, I'm willing to admit that the frustration at how long they were in the woods for echoes exactly how each character was feeling about it as well.
A note about the writing: I received an advanced copy so there is a high likelihood that the odd grammatical turns of phrase found throughout the book have been corrected. However, they aren't too distracting and the more the story pulled me along (because you really will want to know what happens next) the more I considered that the odd turns of phrase could actually be intentional. After all, bird and bat shifters were not originally from Earth, and while they forced the world to universally adopt English, it's possible that with English not as their native language it's quite likely phrases they adopted might not always land right.
The beginning of this story retells the ending from Even Angels Fall from Cassiopé's POV, which provided a nice little review of what's happening. We have the "impending doom" of Léandre having his memory wiped, of course after Cassiopé has already begun to fall for him. They do have a plan, eventually, to at least prevent his memory from being wiped again, though he will be unlikely to get his previous memories back.
I loved having both POV from Cassiopé and Léandre, watching them both pine and long for the other, but not wanting to make it weird. Léandre feels like he might be falling too fast, and Cassiopé is concerned that she might only be remembering the previous Léandre, and not who he is turning out to be now. She does everything in her power to help him, and then goes on a su!c!de mission to save everyone from the birds. Thankfully, everything turns out to be okay, at least happy for now.
I loved the expansion of the world that was done here! We are still in Paris for quite a bit, but we also move to the outer parts of the city as well as to the remote forests. We are also introduced to additional characters who play central roles in future installments of this amazing futuristic series!
Some favorite quotes: Well, poor decision, here I come, I tell myself as I slip under the cover and between his arms. We're two lost souls, and where we're together, we're not so lost anymore. "You're like fireflies. Sometimes it feels like you're all bright and then I look at you and all the light has been drained. You just don't shine for me," Léandre says, and my blood freezes. Fireflies. Petite Luciole. That's what Léandre used to call me before. "I've loved you in your past life. I love you in this new one, and if there is ever a next life, I promise to find my way back to you and to love you again. My heart is yours. It always will be."
If you love a story with shifters, forced proximity, only one bed, who did this to you, grumpy/sunshine, amnesia, and female rage, check out Even Vampires Bleed.
I received an advanced review copy for free. This review contains my honest opinion and is being left voluntarily.
Even Vampires Bleed is book 2 in The Even Ever After Series and hits the ground running where book 1 left off. If it’s been a second since you read book 1, the author does a great job of giving us a parallel account of the events from the end book 1 from Cassiopé’s POV, so it’s a nice way to approach a recap without it feeling repetitive (even if you’re like me and literally read book 1 the day before you read book 2 😂, this was a great touch). I fell in love with Cassiopé and Léandre in book 1, so was excited to get their POVs for book 2. Be prepared to be gutted emotionally, because it isn’t smooth-sailing for these lovebirds, and their road to a HEA is hard-won!

The “archangels” have been deceiving humans as a ploy to remain in power–they aren’t angels at all, just bird shifters in their half shifted forms. The power has gone to the bird shifters' heads and they’ve been ruling with a corrupt and unjust hand for too long. The humans are fighting back and other shifters can’t sit idly by while the bird shifters maim, tørtürė, experiment on and ☠️ those they deem beneath them.
Cassiopé has had everything taken from her at the hands of the bird shifters. Her father was a sick experiment as part of his tørtürė when taken prisoner and is in a coma, and the man she loves had his memories erased. Cassiopé’s world is unraveling before her eyes and the heartbreak she experiences leads her on a path of revenge against the archangels responsible for her misery. The only problem? Cassiopé isn’t a trained warrior. She’s skilled at being stealthy and has an immense amount of knowledge due to her role as an archivist, but hell hath no fury like a woman scorned and this batshifter is ready to avenge those that she loves. Does she have what it takes?
I loved the dynamic between Cassiopé and Léandre before his memories were wiped, and after? Grab the tissues because you will be feeling the heartbreak right alongside Cassiopé! I so desperately wanted these two to get a HEA and the road wasn’t easy as Cassiopé had to grieve for what she had and process how to move forward on her own timeline while figuring out a new normal. Cassiopé was relatable in her emotional turmoil, and I liked seeing her come into her own. My only critique is that I didn’t love the bit of a miscommunication trope that popped up on both sides as Cassiopé and Léandre realized they had feelings for one another but also felt like they didn’t know to broach the subject and couldn’t discuss it (I wish their conversation had happened sooner!). If you loved book 1, I highly recommend book 2!
This Urban Futuristic Fantasy was a second chance romance that kept you invested! Whether you need a book where the mmc, doesn't know that fmc, has a thing for him until he walks in on her in shower saying his name, one where the fmc would literally kill for her man, or one where the mmc is a virgin.. you might love this one! A world filled with Futuristic qualities such as holograms, electricians, microchips, AI, and watches. Where Shifters and Archangels are on opposing sides. Where people you love are taken and tortured for research, memories are wiped, and the angels are the bad guys. Still interested.. stay tuned! In this stand alone, you follow Cassie, a bat Shifter or vampire, whose dad is taken, tortured, and put in a coma. Her best friend, Angie, is with a dragon Shifter, who both are descendants from Archangels. They're pretty much in charge of helping and keeping Shifters safe. Leandre is Angie's best friend and bonds with Cassie at a wedding over their dad's being missing. What makes it worse is the new angels in charge microchipped leandre for leverage. As Cassie and Leandre fall for one another and things get steamy, it's all taken away when his memory is wiped. Now he doesn't know who he is, let alone her. Heartbroken, Cassie mourns his loss. Leandre must start anew and learn his past to move forward. Just when things are getting back to normal, there's a looming threat that his microchip might go off again, erasing him a second time. In order to protect himself, he must go to a secluded place with no electricity, so they can't activate this danger! And who has been assigned to tag along, none other than Cassie! In hiding , just the two of them together, things are bound to happen, truths are discovered, a taboo blood bond is formed, tension rises, and new feelings emerge against Cassies wishes. What will she do to save the love of her life, to protect him from the future?? Will he be saved? What will happen to their dads?? Will they live happily ever after??
Their chemistry was undeniable, funny, and worth killing for. I loved Leandre, he was my favorite!

✨Initial Thoughts✨ I loved book one of this series so much and I was really anticipating this book. I didn’t realize that it wouldn’t be from Angelique and Elhyor’s POVs, but I understand why. They had their love story and anything else would be dragging that out unnecessarily. All that being said, I was sad I didn’t enjoy this more. The beginning, for me, felt too chaotic and it took me out of the story so much that I never really found my way back in. That’s not to say there weren’t some aspects that I enjoyed. I enjoy the author’s writing style, I enjoy the overall world she has created, and I enjoyed the character of Cassiopé. But I couldn’t overcome the impression that Léandre was just Angelique’s dorky, grumpy friend. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good nerdy guy (I’m married to one) and I don’t need the growling, morally gray type. But there was just something about Léandre that I couldn’t fully love as the MMC. Friend? Yes, absolutely. Fits the role perfectly. Anyway, I will continue reading the series because I’m fully invested in the world of the series. This just wasn’t my favorite.
✨Pros✨ * Character development was good. * I enjoy E.V. Sauvage’s writing style. * I like the overall world that the author has created because it’s pretty unique.
✨Cons✨ * I didn’t connect with Cassiopé and Léandre like I connected with Angelique and Elhyor in book one. I had a tough time getting into their story regardless of already knowing them a little bit in book one. * It was hard to go from thinking about Léandre being solely Angelique’s nerdy, grumpy friend to thinking about him as an MMC. * I felt a little bit too thrown in and especially since POVs changed at the beginning of the book. Even though the author started a tiny bit before where the last book ended, it still felt chaotic and it took my mind a while to settle into the story.
Thank you to E.V. Sauvage for the gifted copy and the opportunity to review this book.
First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of this book! Even Vampires Bleed is the second installment in this captivating series, and I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to continue this journey.
I’d like to start by sharing a quick disclaimer—this series cannot be read as a standalone. While Even Vampires Bleed is an amazing book in its own right, you'll absolutely need the context from the first book, Even Angels Fall (which is incredible, by the way) to truly understand the world and the characters.
Now, let's talk about Even Vampires Bleed itself. One of the most powerful elements of this book is the relationship between Léandre, the main male character, and his love for Cassie. Even when his memories are lost, his feelings for her remain steadfast, and that depth of emotion is beautifully portrayed throughout. I found myself rooting for their connection, even as Léandre grapples with the complexities of his identity and his love for Cassie. The way their bond is explored is raw, poignant, and incredibly engaging.
As for the romance, Even Vampires Bleed strikes the perfect balance. The spice is just the right amount—sensual and heated without overwhelming the plot. It's a great mix of tension, passion, and emotional depth that keeps you hooked from start to finish.
This book also dives deeper into world-building, expanding on the dynamics and complexities of the world that the characters inhabit. It’s clear that the author has put a lot of thought into crafting this universe, and I loved learning more about its intricacies. The world-building not only enhances the plot but also adds depth to the characters' motivations and actions.
In conclusion, Even Vampires Bleed is a beautifully written, emotionally charged addition to this series. With rich character development, the perfect amount of spice, and a captivating world, it's definitely worth your time. If you’re a fan of paranormal romance, you need this series in your life!
Oh shit. Oh shit. Oh shit. This is so good. I'm so in love with Léandre and Cassiopé. I thought I knew what I was getting myself into (I sort of did) but I also didn't anticipate the story taking the turn it would. Even Vampires Bleed picks up right where Even Angels Fall ends, however, the story is not merely a sequel because it also goes back to the moment that Léandre and Cassiopé meet. Although it isn't exactly like a recap, for anyone who has forgotten details or particular events, beginning their story by going back to that moment, is very helpful and it made me even more invested in their story. I adore Léandre and Cassiopé's relationship and how they interact with one another. The feelings of each character throughout the dual pov is so well organized that I couldn't help but feel and dread alongside each of them.
Stylistcally, I also really love how different Léandre and Cassiopé story is compared to Angélique and Elhyor. I know they are a completely different couple and they are all friends/acquaintances and everything happens in the same universe but the writing couldn't be any more different; it's like stepping into a completely new and different world. There is a lightness to the story despite it being one where choices have to be made and fights have to be waged.
If you were absolutely chomping at the bit and could not wait to see the next installment of The Never Ever After Series, I cannot wait until you get a taste of Even Vampires Bleed!!! This couple is the most realistic(?) I have ever read. There's insecurities and fear but also moments where you just cannot help but laugh because the light will always outweigh the darkness.
Thank you so much to E.V. Sauvage for gifting me the opportunity to read this ARC. I cannot wait to see what's in store next!
Bat and Cockatoo Shifters, amnesia and found family, forced proximity and one bed, feminine rage and Who Did this to you… Even Vampires Bleed is a Spicy Fantasy Romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat and off on a rescue mission through some of the most stunning locations like the dark and mysterious Catacombs and the idyllic gothic and glorious Notre Dame.
This installment follows Cassie, a Vampire who is also a bat shifter. When she bonds Leandre, a cockatoo shifter, over their mutual mysteries of their missing fathers at a wedding, things heat up. When Leandre is microchipped by the Angels in charge, his memories are wiped clean. With no memory of her or who he is, Cassie is heartbroken and struggles with her own feelings. As Leandre orients himself to his new life, he makes strides to protect himself by withdrawing to a location with no electricity in an attempt to keep the Angels from activating the chip again and erasing his life once more. Cassie is assigned to accompany him on his endeavors, but in doing so, the pair is thrust back into the throngs of all that they are. Feelings will be rekindled and their bond will heat up. Can they save each other from a future of loneliness and desperation? What would you do to have the love of your life remember you?
Second book in The Even Ever After Series, I highly recommend reading the first book Even Angels Fall, prior to reading this one to fully appreciate the story line. Speaking of appreciation, the spice was just hot enough to not get burned but sizzling enough to make you sweat, and perfectly sprinkled through out the book. I love the way EV writes, its captivating and has a way of keeping you sucked in while the pages just seem to fly by. This series is a must read for anyone who like spicy romantasy.
I don’t know the last time I read a book that I had to take breaks from due to the emotional ride it took me on. Even Vampires Bleed by E.V Sauvage did just this. I couldn’t break away for long, but every now and then I had to set the book down to fully process everything I was feeling and what just happened in the book. A romance that builds you up, tears you down, and then slowly puts you back together.
In a world where Archangels seem to rule, nothing is as it seems. This story starts out with describing a world where power has been mishandled, shifters are against each other, and one wrong move can erase you forever. Despite all of this, our two MCs find each other and begin a beautiful relationship. It doesn’t last long as a memory wipe causes one to forget everything and the other mourning that loss.
Cassie and Leandre are two MCs that I absolutely loved. Their love story is layered, dynamic, and full of heartache. As secrets of the archangels come to light, our characters begin to see what they are truly fighting against and for. How can Cassie move on with her life, when the person she loves is there every day, but doesn’t know what they once shared? How can Leandre fight for what he wants if he can’t even remember who he is?
EV writes a story that grips you from start to finish. The range of emotions I felt while reading, not to mention the depths of said emotions I also felt. This book is one that will stick with me long after I finish it. EV storytelling abilities burst off the pages, giving you a book you won’t want to put down. If you are looking for a book to pull on your heartstrings from beginning to end, this book is a must read!!
As always, review any author notes before reading.
Tropes: 🦇Grumpy x Sunshine 💜Female Rage 🦇One Bed 💜Unavoidable Proximity 🦇Found Family 💜Shifter Romance
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This novel is perfect for readers who enjoy stories that delve into deeper themes beyond just the romance between the main couple.
I especially appreciated the character of Cassiope, the female main character. While she’s written as a strong woman, she also has her own vulnerabilities and emotional struggles — particularly after the halfway point of the book, when she’s forced to confront emotional pain and begins to grow as a person. One unique aspect I really liked is that she’s a bat shifter, which added an intriguing layer to her character.
Leandre, the male main character, is a parakeet shifter and was immediately likable. I found myself rooting for him from the very beginning all the way through to the end.
I went into this book without reading any prior information, so I didn’t realize it was actually the second in a series of interconnected standalones. Because of this, I felt a bit disconnected from the central relationship at first — it came off as somewhat superficial. However, after discovering that their connection begins in the first book, Even Angels Fall, I now strongly recommend reading that one first to fully appreciate the development of their bond.
Another thing I loved was the setting. Most shifter romances I’ve read take place in the U.S., so setting this series in France gave it a refreshing and distinctive feel that elevated not just this book, but the overall world-building of the series.
I’d recommend Even Vampires Bleed to fans of Bride by Ali Hazelwood and The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris — especially those who enjoy romance blended with supernatural elements and deeper emotional arcs.
The second standalone book in The Even Ever After Series takes readers to a futuristic Paris in the year 2603, picking up right where the first book left off. If you've read the first book, you'll recognize Cassiopé—the daughter of Brice and Léandre, Angelique's best friend. The story starts by taking us a few months back in time, where we witness Cassiopé's first interaction with Léandre at Angelique’s wedding. What begins as a simple encounter slowly develops into something more than just a fleeting connection.
However, everything changes when the chip in Léandre's brain is activated, causing him to lose all memory of his past. Cassiopé, devastated by the loss of their building relationship, retreats from Notre Dame, hoping to escape the pain of seeing Léandre. Yet, fate has other plans. The two are thrust back together when they are tasked with locating two critical items at Versailles.
Cassiopé, the quiet and non-confrontational daughter, steps into a new role, driven by revenge for what happened to Léandre. Meanwhile, Léandre, confused by her cold and dismissive behavior, feels an inexplicable pull to get closer to her. As their journey unfolds, the chemistry between them intensifies, despite the tension and unresolved feelings.
The saying "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" couldn’t be more fitting for Cassiopé—her determination and resilience are truly unforgettable. This fast-paced, gripping story blends romance, revenge, and tension in a way that kept me turning pages and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Firstly a huge thank you to E.V. Sauvage and R&R Book Tours for sending me an ARC of Even Vampires Bleed!
Even Vampires Bleed was such a good read! I loved Even Angels Fall and Cassie was one of my favourite characters so I knew I wanted to read her story. These books are interconnected but act as standalone though so you can read independently if you want to which is great!
Cassie was a great sidekick in EAF but I loved her just as much as our FMC in this book. I adored how well her inner monologue is captured - it's quite a simplistic writing style which reflects her thought processes and works really well. I didn't feel hers and Leandre's chemistry at the beginning, but I feel this is intentional as it adds to the emotions and development of their relationship later in the story. Honestly their relationship arc ripped my heart in two and then stitched it back together! I want to keep this spoiler free but it was so well done and I loved following their story!
The world building itself is equally amazing. There are lots of elements of common folklore embedded in the world that we as readers can connect to, but it's changed in really clever ways and EVS makes it her own! Loved the body image rep as well - shifters are used to nakedness as they have to lose their clothes when they shift and it's often referenced how familiar they are with this.
Overall this was a wonderful second book in the Even Ever After series and I just know that E.V. Sauvage has got more up her sleeve to show us in this world!! I can't wait for book 3!
I truly enjoyed the first book in the Even Ever After series, Even Angels Fall, but I think the tropes of Even Vampires Bleed were simply not for me.
I was curious about Léandre's fate with the looming threat of the microchip, but I didn't feel like we got much insight into who he was. His POVs seemed to focus more on describing his attraction to Cassiopé. It would have been nice if his chapters contained more details about how he picked himself back up after the incident and how much he struggled to re-familiarize himself with everyone around him, but those ideas were only briefly discussed. I was not convinced by his love declaration either, as it seemed too sudden, but that's probably to blame on me not being a fan of the insta-love trope 🤷🏻♀️
The same went for Cassiopé. Other than the fact that she was a bookworm and not very skilled at physical confrontation, I struggled to decipher her personality. I couldn't feel the love between her and Léandre while reading, as their physical attraction seemed to be the key component of their relationship; we didn't get to watch their relationship build up much through deep and genuine conversations about thoughts, worries, and future plans. The way Cassie got rid of her enemies also sounded a bit too convenient.
I'd say it was an interesting read overall. If you don't mind or are a fan of the insta-love trope, then you might enjoy this one. The story was entertaining enough and easy to read and comprehend.
“He might still be alive, but I’ll still have to mourn him.”
Even Vampires Bleed follows Cassiope (Cassie), a bat-shifter, and Leandre, a cockatoo shifter, as they navigate a world filled with chaos, shifters, and angels. The story picks up right where Even Angels Fall left off, with Cassie’s best friend, Angelique (Angie)—a fallen angel—being sent to kill Elhyor, only for events to spiral when Angie kills Michael, an archangel. Cassie’s father is left in a coma, and Leandre is taken, sparking Cassie’s quest for vengeance. Fueled by rage and determination, she teams up with Christina and heads into the catacombs, seeking to kill Michael and Gabrielle (an archangel who has taken a wife).
Even Vampires Bleed dives into the aftermath of Leandre’s memory loss from the neurotransmitter implant Michael put into him the day Angie left—and yes, there’s even a forced ear piercing and a ring involved! The story is truly unique, filled with emotion, twists, and a touch of chaos, though I do wish the backtrack had been a bit shorter. It shows that even when things get messy and complicated, some people are just meant to find their way back to each other. The story is packed with twists, unique characters, and emotional depth, highlighting how, even amidst chaos, some bonds are unbreakable.
A big thanks to Air Force Captain E.V. Sauvage for sending me a digital ARC of the entire The Even Ever After series despite being on a mission! I’m in awe of your work and can’t wait to see what you write next! — #lateARCreview
This one was more interesting than the first book. Angelique had less of a focus in this book and it focused more on Cassiope and her growth as a person. Because most of the heavy explanations, character introductions & storyline were done in the first book and now there was more room for action in book 2. I also appreciate cassiope when she takes a hard but necessary step in order to get her revenge.
The character's development is everything and the progression of the series is amazing. This book explores even further the relationships of Cassiope and Leandre. Strangely enough, I found myself both satisfied and frustrated. Yes, both feelings simultaneously. It's a great book, but the ending has me wanting to reach for the next book now, but it's not ready yet.
You will find yourself trapped in this story, wanting to know what happens next. Her characters and intriguing stories draw you in so deep that you can't escape until you've finished reading the very last page. It was a great follow up to the first book in the series.
