Trying to survive a bioengineered apocalypse, Remi volunteers to travel to the future. She escapes Instant death, only to find a completely different culture and set of rules, horrifying threats, strange new instincts overpowering her will.
Her life and sanity are threatened at every turn, but she has many new protectors who would lay down their lives just for a chance to be her mate, for without her they would become the enemy.
If you're looking for smut look no further. I just wish it had been filed under erotica, porn. Just not dystopian. The two pages worth of effort into making this a "dystopian" read are just lacking. There is no plot here, even my skimming skills were exhausted. But I know some enjoy this sort of thing.
This book had a pretty interesting plot that evolved into a whole lot of smut. 😂 Good if you’re in this mood but also there were soo many grammar issues, I’m not sure it even went through an editor. The different POVs were okay but there were so many of them, you kinda forget which POV you’re looking at. Not sure why it says “Book 1” but I hope if there’s more, we’ll need to clean up the grammar too. 2⭐️4🌶️
I literally just finished reading this on KU. My gods woman! I loved the storytelling and I instantly fell in love with so many characters. I know it just came out but please, please, please, tell me there’s more coming. I loved the dystopian feel you gave me with this and the love and peace you gave the characters.
I love omegaverse stories set in dystopian/apocalyptic settings, and as this is also a spicy reverse harem story (whychoose), I thought I had hit the jackpot when I found this book... I enjoyed reading it at first, until it got so boring that I put it down halfway through. Maybe I missed an epic twist or ending, but I doubt it.
Let's start with the good points of this novel: it has an interesting synopsis, the female lead is a tough woman who is not only a marine but also a doctor (yay for strong female characters) who wakes up in the future and has to survive in a new environment. The story is fast paced, has multiple POV's and is spicy. The many male characters are hot and infatuated with her, so if you're looking for lots of steamy scenes, you'll get them!
But that's also where the problems start (at least in my opinion).
This book has almost no plot! From the beginning I had some problems with the logic of the whole virus outbreak and her military mission in the future, but I chose to ignore them because I was excited about what was to come.
She survives the first obstacles in this new world (almost) on her own, and for the first 10% of the book she is the strong female lead we were promised. That is until she meets her new alphas (a bonded pack) and things escalate pretty quickly. Now don't get me wrong, while this is a very common trope used in many stories, I do enjoy reading plots like this. The problem with this particular story is that not only does she lose all of her badass personality, but every chapter feels the same, even though she has plenty of men by her side.
The moment she meets her new alphas, she becomes this crazy sex-addicted Omega who just mates with one after the other. Gone is our smart and strong fmc as she turns into what feels almost like a blow up sex doll with no will and no opinion of her own. While I understand that this is part of her Omega nature, it really clashes with the strong character she's made out to be. Her alphas fuck first and talk later, some only introducing themselves after going through a rut with her. With a whole pack that needs bonding, there is a lot of sex, with little time for dialogue, character growth or world building.
The pack also attend to her every need (feeding, bathing, carrying) as if she were suddenly made of glass. When she tries to speak up, they discipline her, which I usually find very exciting, but here it often felt forced and even though she seemed happy with it, she didn't really have a choice but to accept her situation which I find very unsexy! (Disclaimer: I do read and enjoy dark romance stories, so the scenes I'm talking about in this book feel very very tame in comparison and there are trigger warnings at the beginning! The main problem I have with these scenes is that they feel very romanticised & the men claim to treasure and respect her without actually giving her much respect or choices of her own, since they apparently know what's best for her. Being the good female that she is she just accepts her new reality. So yeah while this might not be an issue for many and some of you will probably roll their eyes at me for this, I personally didn't enjoy how they handled their dynamics!)
Finally, I had a few problems with the editing of this book. I read it on Amazon Kindle Unlimited, and since it's a book you have to pay for, I expected a bit more consistency in the writing. However, the tenses changed a lot and some sentences were missing whole words. I'm nitpicking at this point, but it did bother me while reading.
That said... is it a terrible book? Not at all! It's entertaining up to a point, but it failed to keep me engaged or excited, despite the many sexy scenes, and the whole apocalypse plot feels almost irrelevant (this could have been just an abo setting from the start).
But if you want to give it a try, you might like it more than I did!
