The Warners #1

A Guide to Fake Dating Your Enemy

Rate this book
Samuel Warner is rich, charming, the CEO of his family’s business, and the guy I’ve hated since grade school. Now, thanks to one of my more questionable ideas, he’s also my new pretend boyfriend.

Our families have been at each other’s throats for three generations, fighting over the future of our small town. The Warners are all for bulldozing and modernizing every corner of Fox Creek, while my family is determined to preserve our quirky little town and its quaint ways. But even without the family feud, Samuel’s charm and charisma (and his maddening smirk) would still get on my nerves.

Samuel is insufferably smooth, his favorite hobby is teasing me even though he’s able to charm the most cantankerous granny in the county, and he’s spine-tinglingly handsome. Worse yet, he knows it!

But when my brother falls head over heels for a Warner girl, I’m desperate to find a way to unite our families. So, I propose a totally sane, not-at-all-ridiculous Samuel and I will pretend to be in a serious relationship, faking our way to family peace and town harmony with a Romeo-and-Juliet-style performance (minus the tragedy at the end).

First problem with this fantastic idea? Samuel agrees way too quickly, which screams that he’s got a hidden agenda. And yet, he’s so perfect in the role of doting boyfriend, I can’t figure out what his angle is.

Second problem? This relationship might be fake, but my heart didn’t get the memo. Every “date” and impromptu public display of affection Samuel insists on performing stirs up feelings I’m not prepared for. Soon enough, I’m wondering if I can really end this without a total family feud—or losing my heart.

A Guide to Fake Dating Your Enemy is a laugh-out-loud small-town romantic comedy full of swoon-worthy moments, sizzling kisses, and a romance that’s anything but fake. It’s a closed door romance with mild swearing/language.

"A fake feud, a fake relationship... and a fakeout on the chemistry?"

Okay, I wanted to like this. I was READY for a chaotic enemies-to-lovers + fake dating combo with some slow-burn angst and grudging pining... but what I got was a super sweet family rom-com that felt more like a Hallmark movie on extra syrupy mode.

I read A Guide to Fake Dating Your Enemy 'cause I’ve got an ARC of book 2, and let’s just say... this was a case of the blurb doing all the heavy lifting. The whole "we’ve been rivals for three generations" thing?? Never explained. Not even a throwaway line. I kept WAITING for some juicy past scandal, some ancient betrayal—but no. The families are just like, “lol we hate each other... but also come in for dinner, sweetie!”

Enemies? WHERE.
Tension? WHO.
Chemistry? NOT HERE.

I kid you not, I never thought I’d say this but—it had TOO MUCH found family.
Like... everyone was SO supportive, so open-hearted, so annoyingly nice?? I kept waiting for drama or at least a passive-aggressive jab from an aunt, but nah. It was just vibes. And not the kind I signed up for.

Also that big secret?
Wasn’t big. Wasn’t a secret. Was just dumb.
I'm sorry but if you're gonna slow-burn your way through 90% of the book, you BETTER give me a damn good reveal.
And this one? It flopped harder than my hopes for enemies-to-lovers tension.

Honestly, Nat and Sam were... fine. There were cute moments, but nothing that made me scream or swoon or throw my phone across the room with FEELS. And when you sell me fake dating + enemies to lovers, I need that inner turmoil. I need "oh no he’s hot" vibes. I need petty jabs that turn into loaded glances.

This book?
It just gave me two nice people play-acting conflict in a town full of cinnamon rolls.

But y’know what? The chapter openers with fake-dating advice? Adorable. That was actually my fave part. I’d read a whole novella just of those.

I’m still gonna read book two because I’m a clown with hope in my heart and I already committed. But please, let that one bring the DRAMA. Give me angst. Give me stakes. Give me something I can emotionally spiral over!!

TL;DR: If you're into ultra wholesome small-town vibes, no spice, and a super sweet romance where nobody’s actually enemies, you might vibe with this. But if you came for claws-out rivalry, aching pining, and tension so thick you could cut it with a knife? This ain't it.

Craving a short, cute and light-hearted romcom?
Want to read about a man who has been in love with a woman since college but is indescribably bad at flirting and his love language is messing with her? Then this book is for you!!! 🥹💕

The chemistry between Nat & Sam, their harmless banter, sweet moments and those swoonworthy kisses - OML PERFECTION🤌

"Samuel liked to flirt with me just to upset me." I LITERALLY SCREAMED WHILE READING THIS because the hints started dropping from the FIRST CHAPTER LMAO 😭😭.

And THE MOMENT I decided it's a 5⭐ read-
"Will you feed it to me? I don't want to let you go." I love me a clingy and desperate 'fake' boyfriend lol 🌚🤌.

I do love me some fake dating and this had all the banter & shenanigans I expect with that trope.
Samuel's "big secret" was kind of ridiculous. I would have preferred if that was out in the open and able to build up with the story from the start, but hey, that's just me.
Nat & Sam are cute and the family dynamics in here are pure fire!
Did I mention there is a cutie doggo too?
Anywho, go read this book and report back with how much fun you had!
Much love to Nikki Bright & Booked With The Emily's for my ARC.

a sweet romcom. I'm such a sucker for fake dating tropes and this is such a cute one, but misscommunication is also an essential part of the story.

Thank you @lovenotes.pr for my advanced copy of this story. Romeo and Juliet is one of the greatest love stories ever, and this modern-day version is a great interpretation. There’s a colourful cast of side-characters, and the family interactions are brilliant.

I’m not sure if it’s because it was a closer-door romance, but I didn’t feel a lot of chemistry between our MCs. Also, Samuel’s reasons for wanting to keep on with the arrangement icked me out a little, and once we learn about it, I supported the couple less.

Nonetheless, if you’re a fan of yearning and someone FINALLY getting his girl, then this book is the one for you.

Thank you to @nikkibrightbooks and @lovenotes.pr for the opportunity of this one as a ARC 🙊

Natalie Mann is a town Clarke and Samuel Warner is the rich CEO of his family business. Both live in a small town with all their families. Both families dispose each other and have always done so mainly because the Warners want to demolish everything in the town where as the manna want to keep the traditions of the small town.

Natalie discovered her brother is head over heels for a Warner and decides if she could fake date Samuel it could bring the two families together and stop the fighting.

Is this mind over matter? Or head over heart?

I rather enjoyed this one! It’s a really easy read and I really enjoyed reading the differences between the two. It was a slower pace than I would have liked however it’s definitely set the story and knowing this is a series I’m super excited to read the next instalment.

If small town forbidden romance is your thing add this one to your TBR!

Loved this short little holiday read!
It was great it said more winter read than Christmas so it can be read year round.

Sound a diverse cast of characters, Nats family was bonkers especially her grandparents and I am here for it. They were all so funny and loving putting aside their family feud to accept and love Nat & Sam’s relationship.

Really cute, lighthearted read.
It was nice that it wasn’t full of angst or heavy drama. Perfect little comfort read

4.5/5✨

[Cute]

The cover and title of this book lured me to sign up for an ARC of this book. Thanks to Nikki and Love Note Pr I got the opportunity to read it in advance🥰.

The center of the story is represented by a family feud between Warner and Mann. They had a history there and that's where Natalie intervenes. She saw the chemistry between her brother, Owen, and other member of Warner family, Jenna. From that point she wanted to do anything possible to soothe that feud. That even meant fake dating one member of the Warner family and that was Samuel.

From a theoretical point, everything seemed to work smoothly, but something was a bit strange when Sam accepted Natalie's proposal without even thinking. Did he have some hidden reasons to accept this insane plan? Because he really did an amazing job pretending to be Natalie's fake boyfriend.

This book was so much fun to read. Sam and Nate's fake relationship was so sweet and full of banter. Their families were so funny, each member had a pretty strong personality and contributed to their love story.

A super light and easy read, which made me laugh and just have a great time following the characters of this story. Now I'm pretty curious about the next book of this series, after reading the little afterword left by the author.🤭

Loved this one! In this story we follow Natalie and Samuel who are life long enemies and their families hate eachother aswell. They live in a small town were everyone knows well, everyone.

This story is full of humor, banter and an the romance is amazing. Samuel is the biggest gentleman who has a tiny problem with communication & Natalie is maybe a bit blind to all the hints but is determined to do everything for the happiness of her brother.

I would 100% recommend this one. I was also very very happy that there is no third act break up! It’s also refreshing that it was closed door so no smut scenes, it’s rather hard to find books like that nowadays.
This one was an amazing debut and I cannot wait for the story of Samuel’s brother, Isaac.

Thanks to Booked With the Emilys and Nikki for the ARC of the ebook.

If you’re looking for pining, he falls first, small town, enemies to lovers, star crossed (a la Romeo & Juliet) lovers, and complicated family dynamics all packaged up in a closed door, no strong language, winter vibes package, this one might be for you!

Some kinda spoilery things: my one hang up was with how the mmc went about his plan. It had moments of feeling a little icky for me when we were in the midst of it and it felt like he didn’t see what was wrong with it and it felt like the one person who knew all the details also wasn’t trying to strongly dissuade him from it. Ultimately though, it is resolved and there is some reflection on the means by which he achieved his goal. Still felt a bit like it wasn’t as harshly criticized as I felt would have been called for. The 3rd act “break up” was over a misconception related to this, but it wasn’t over the manipulation involved, which was the main hang up for me.

All that to say, it was a warm, funny, and cute! 4⭐️ for the vibes!

THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING!!! Fake dating and enemies to lovers are two of my most favorite tropes, and Nikki wrote them in the best way possible! Hands down, one of the best romcoms I've ever read💓 The chemistry between Sam and Nat- PERFECTION🤌 They were so compatible - the romance, their wittiness, and every shared moment were just top-tier! I loved every single character, so lovable, so cool people - like people I'd want to hang out with IRL. I loved how annoyingly involved their families were! The story had me giggling, laughing, crying, all in the best way possible🥹 It was such a heartwarming read that I didn't want to end. Honestly, this NEEDS to be adapted into a holiday movie!!!

This was such a heartwarming feel-good love story with the best kind of humor! If you're looking for a book that'll make u smile and swoon (because I did), read this one!🩷

AND YES OF COURSE I'm excited about Isaac's book, but I'd do anything to know what's going on with LOGAN!!😭

Samuel Warner is rich, charming, the CEO of his family's business, and the guy I've hated since grade school. Now, thanks to one of my more questionable ideas, he's also my new pretend boyfriend.
I find this book very suitable for this time of year (post Christmas) so I advise you to recover it especially in this period. It is a laugh-out-loud small-town romantic comedy full of swoon-worthy moments, sizzling kisses and a romance that's anything but fake. It's a closed door romance with mild swearing/language.
I loved the protagonists, I loved the plot, these modern Romeo and Juliet vibes (without the tragedy, fortunately). I ask the author to please also write a book about LOGAN, he's the type of character I love so please!
I also loved the lightness of this book, without spicy scenes, I found it super smooth. I laughed in some scenes especially those of the Mann family.
I would like it if it had been a longer book and above all that there had been more male povs, especially since he fall first and harder (harder)
Trope:
★ Small Town
★ Fake dating
★ He falls first and harder
★ Double pov
★ Modern day Romeo and Juliet
★ Enemies to lovers (nemesi, she is her lifelong rival)
★ Winter vibes
★ No Close door
Thanks to Love Notes and Nikki Bright for this arc! I was so curious to read it and had high expectations! expectations that were respected in a big way 🫶🏻 It release on January 9th!

🇮🇹:

This book was the perfect blend of heartwarming romance, witty banter, and just the right amount of drama to keep me hooked. I’m such a sucker for enemies to lovers and small town romances!

Natalie and Sam’s dynamic was electric. Their history, rooted in family feuds and old resentments, sets the stage for tension that’s deliciously satisfying to watch unfold. I adored their banter! Natalie’s fierce love for her brother and Sam’s ulterior motives made their fake dating arrangement feel so much more layered and heartfelt.

I loved how authentic the family dynamics felt. Both Natalie and Sam’s families are messy, complicated, and relatable. Whether it’s the overprotective siblings or the nosy extended family.

That being said, the third-act breakup is usually a trope I dread, and this one had its ups and downs for me. While the misunderstanding wasn’t dragged out too long (thankfully), it centered around the fallout from Sam’s manipulation which honestly made me pause. It was a bit tough to see Natalie forgive so quickly when I wanted more reflection or accountability from Sam. I get why the breakup had to happen, but it didn’t land quite as strongly as I hoped.

That said, their chemistry and the heartfelt resolution were enough to pull me back in, which is why I’m rating this book 4 stars!!

If you’re looking for a cozy, clean romance packed with small-town vibes, star-crossed lovers, and all the holiday feels, this book is what you’re looking for ✨

“A Guide to Fake Dating Your Enemy” by Nikki Bright is the ultimate throwback to classic rom-coms! Think Sandra Bullock and Meg Ryan as leading ladies paired with swoony men like Bill Pullman, and Billy Crystal—and you’ve got Natalie and Samuel’s story. ❄️🩵

Natalie and Samuel are everything you could want in a fake dating, enemies-to-lovers romance (with some delicious secret pining mixed in!). Their chemistry jumps off the page, making you laugh, swoon, and cheer for them at every turn. Their banter is absolute perfection—hilarious, sharp, and full of the kind of dynamic that makes you fall in love with them.

The chaos of their families added so much heart and humor to the story. Yes, there were rivalries, but seeing everyone navigate Natalie and Samuel’s relationship brought even more life and excitement to the book.

And Sam? He’s the kind of leading man who ruins you for real life—with his charm, charisma, and swoon-worthy moments. Natalie is equally unforgettable—so relatable and likable that you can’t help rooting for her to find her happily ever after.

If you love classic rom-com vibes, hilarious banter, and a romance that makes your heart race, this book is an absolute must-read! 🖤✨

Romeo and Juliet meets fake dating!? This was the combination I never knew I needed, but truly this story was so much fun! Samuel and Natalie don't just find themselves disagreeing at every turn--- but their families have a long-standing rivalry too. But when her brother starts to fall for Sam's cousin, she wants to do something to ease the family tensions to make things easier for them to stand a chance at making it work--- her solution? Fake dating the enemy herself. Fake dating is a favorite of mine and as such, I've read MANY books using this trope, but this was definitely a unique take! Sam agrees very quickly, and as the story goes on, we learn that he has some ulterior motives himself... I won't give anything away, but I loved it (even if his plans were not well thought out to say the least). I loved the chemistry between these two, and all their quirky family members that we met along the way too. This was a super cute debut romcom, and I very much look forward to reading more from the author in the future.

A Guide to Fake Dating Your Enemy is a closed-door romance with kisses only. There is a bit of minor language as well.

This is Natalie and Samuel’s story, which felt like a warm hug to me, just what I needed in this chilly winter season.

It is like a rom-com movie with such easiness, has lots of fun scenes, cute moments, some laughs and lots of gushing and smiling.

The things I really liked:
All the characters are so fun, you’ll like them all in a heartbeat.
The nicknames they have for each other, just hilarious.
And dating with underlying motives(only good ones tho), so so fun. I am a fan of those.
There are no major misunderstanding (there is, but it is portrayed in such a fun way)
No third act breakup
The story is just so light, so well written and actually feels like a small town romance movie.
The flirty banter between Nat and Sam is just so cute.

I haven’t read this kind of book in so long and it made me feel so happy, so full and content, it was very refreshing.

Tropes:
🩵 Small town romance
❄️ Fake Dating
🩵 Family Rivalry
❄️ Boy fell first
🩵 Secret Crush
❄️ Rom-Com
🩵 No spice

If you love giddy rom-coms, you’ll love this.
100% recommended.

The Warners and the Manns have been enemies for years. When Owen Mann develops a crush on Jenna Warner he thinks it’s destined to go unrequited because of the animosity. That’s when his sister Natalie comes up with an idea- ask Samuel Warner to enter into a fake relationship with her on the pretence of healing the family rift and getting the Warners more accepted by the town. When Samuel quickly agrees Natalie is shocked, they’ve hated each other since high school, but does Sam have a hidden agenda? And when Nat realises her feelings are starting to become real will she be able to see it through without getting hurt?

Ok so I loved this! I love a good fake relationship story and also enemies to lovers, so this was really the perfect book for me! It was such a cute romance and it was also hilarious! Grandma and Grandpa Mann are just brilliant! Can’t wait for the next book!!

I was so excited to get an ARC of this book, and it did not disappoint! This is basically a modern-day Romeo and Juliet but with fake dating, lots of banter, and all the rom-com goodness you could want. 😍

The characters? Absolutely amazing. Their chemistry was off the charts, and I was rooting for them the whole time. The fake dating trope is done SO well here—equal parts hilarious and heartwarming. The family drama added just the right amount of tension, and there were so many twists that kept me flipping pages late into the night.

The vibe of the story is super fun, and even though the world-building isn’t super detailed (it didn’t really need to be), the focus on the characters and their relationships made it feel so real and relatable.

If you’re into romantic comedies with enemies-to-lovers vibes and a fun modern twist on classic love stories, this one’s for you! 💕 I’m already excited to see what Nikki Bright comes out with next!

If you’re looking for a sweet, fake dating romance where the MMC is so clearly smitten from the start and two people trying to find their HEA, this might for for you! Before I start, a big thanks to LoveNotes PR and Nikki Bright for an advanced reader copy of this book!
To give quick recap, this story introduces a small town with two feuding families (nothing too intense but they sure don’t get along and have a lot of bad things to say about the other family). When Natalie sees her brother crushing on someone from the other family, she comes up with a plan to bridge the families together- fake date the one she has had a teasing/tense relationship for years. And let me just say, Sam agrees quite quickly.
Let me tell you, these families were maybe my favorite part. The mouse van? The dog treated as a child? Each side was quirky and endearing!!
My only dislike of the book was how the third act conflict was brought about. Even once we see Sam is soft for Natalie, his colder business speak just felt over the top and challenged me to be patient with him. However, this was one of the more enjoyable or still comical third act conflict/breakup stories I read!

I received a copy of this book from Booked With the Emily’s. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Natalie Mann loves everything about her town, Fox Creek. As the city clerk, she deals with many of the residents. Unfortunately, that also means dealing with her rival, Samuel Warner. The two families have been feuding ever since the Warner’s set foot in Fox Creek.

Samuel Warner is the CEO of his family’s business and he seems to love nothing more than being a pain in Natalie’s butt.

When Natalie notices her cousin is in love with a Warner, but too scared to do anything about it, she comes up with a plan. Fake date a Warner and pave the way for her cousin to be happy. Unfortunately, that means teaming up with Samuel, which will be hard to sell. But Samuel seems to be all too eager to agree… even worse? Natalie’s heart doesn’t seem to have gotten the memo that it’s all fake.

The ending was a bit much for me. The families REALLY got involved, but otherwise I enjoyed reading this one! I am a sucker for fake dating and this one delivered.

If you’re looking for a fun romance to just sit back and enjoy, this is definitely worth it! The little dates they went on were so cute!

Read if you like:
• family feuds
• enemies to lovers
• he falls first
• small town romance
• fake dating

okay this reading year is starting off strong! I actually gave this one 5 stars because I absolutely could not bring myself to put it down! I loved Natalie and Samuel so much and the way they interacted not only with each other but with their families too. I really enjoyed that each chapter had a corresponding tip as though they actually were writing a guide. I think this book also proves that if it’s a well written story it doesn’t need any spice. I also enjoyed that it was set in the winter but post Christmas because I feel like that is really rare and it makes now a perfect time to read it! I definitely recommend picking this one up when it’s released on 9th January!

Thank you to @lovenotes.pr and @nikkibrightbooks for the ARC I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for Isaac’s book!

I zipped through this book partly because it was a quick read and partly because it was just so darn cute. It is an ideal read for anyone looking for a clean (zero spice) rom-com with small town, enemies-to-lovers, fake dating, he falls first vibes.

Natalie and Samuel are completely adorable and their families are eccentric, meddlesome, and delightful. The Mann and Warner families have been feuding forever and Natalie and Samuel’s contentious relationship is known throughout the town. When Natalie proposes they fake date as a way to end the feud, their Romeo and Juliet story takes on a life of its own.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the book set in Wisconsin (Let’s hear it for the Badger state!) and enjoyed the winter scenes as I stared at the fully frozen lake outside my window. I am excited to know that Nikki Bright has a book planned for spring 2025 featuring Samuel’s twin brother, Isaac. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on that one.

Thank you to Nikki Bright and Booked With the Emilys for the gifted book in exchange for my unbiased review.

If you’re a sucker for enemies-to-lovers romance with a side of witty banter and sizzling chemistry, A Guide to Fake Dating Your Enemy by Nikki Bright is a must-read! This book delivers everything you want in a rom-com: hilarious misunderstandings, emotional depth, and a fake dating trope that feels refreshingly authentic.

The story follows two rivals forced into a fake relationship, and while they initially clash in spectacular fashion, their slow-burn journey to something real is as satisfying as it is swoon-worthy. Bright’s writing is sharp, the characters are well-rounded, and the tension will keep you flipping pages late into the night.

Perfect for fans of The Hating Game or Enemies Abroad, this book is a delightful escape. You’ll laugh, cry, and root for this couple every step of the way. Add it to your TBR!

**ARC read. But, as always, my opinions are mine 🩶

I couldn't end the year with a better read.

If you want a sweet, clean romance with just the minimum of misunderstanding and a lot of giggling-and-kicking-your-feet moments, this is your book! 🩶

Natalie and Samuel's banter and rivalry is refreshing and I wish I could have read more of that (I need a Samuel's POV of that master plan of his ) and I wished for more...I don't know...hard-to get? but the romance and the win-over is just a sweet as any Christmas love story.

Natalie love for her brother is lovely, not everyone would sacrifice themselves for other's love.
The personalities of the family members (bot Samuel and Natalie) made me feel like part of them, because we all can identify an aunt, a cousin or a grandmother in them.

This book didn't disappointed me at all but I wish it was longer because I'm a sucker for long books. Still, is the perfect length for a cozy reading. Not too short, not too long and the timestamps make sense.

I can't wait to read the next book 🩶

♥️ARC review with thanks to Nikki Bright & Love Notez PR.

I adore this book! “A Guide to Fake Dating Your Enemy” is everything I love in a cosy romance. It’s warm, funny and set in a charming small town that I’d move to in a second!

Without a doubt, this book is one of the most enjoyable fake dating/enemies-to-lovers stories that I’ve ever read. I honestly lost track of how many times it made me smile and I know I’ll come back to it whenever I need a comfort read.

Nikki Bright has officially earned her spot as one of my auto-buy authors, and I’m so excited to return to Fox Creek in her next book. If I could give this book six stars, I would, because it’s a five star read and Chuck deserves a whole extra star of his own! It’s out on January 9th!
