"When was the last time you looked in the mirror and truly saw yourself ? Not just the lines and wrinkles that mark the passage of time, but the woman who has lived, loved, and learned through every one of those years? In a world that often tells us to focus on our imperfections, it takes a special kind of courage to see past those surface-level details and recognize the beauty, wisdom, and strength that come with age. This is what Alina Wilson does so beautifully in Thoughtful Restoring Honor to the Aging Process.

Alina's work is more than just a book; it's a call to arms for women everywhere to reclaim their power and redefine what it means to age. With the precision of a scientist and the empathy of a sister, she dismantles the toxic narratives that the anti-aging industry has spun around us for far too long. She reminds us that aging is not something to be feared or fought against, but something to be embraced with grace and confidence.

...Alina's message is It's time to take back our power by reclaiming our self-worth and redefining what it means to be beautiful. It's about breaking free from the chains of societal expectations and stepping into a new era of self-love and acceptance. And it couldn't come at a more crucial time. As we face an increasingly image-driven world, where social media and advertising constantly bombard us with unrealistic standards, Thoughtful Aging offers a much-needed counter-narrative—one that empowers us to see ourselves in a new light."

This is the most helpful self-help book I've ever read. Alina Wilson sets out to "offer...a pathway to wisdom, confidence and a deeper understanding of your unique beauty" and she has done so with a style that is so honest, supportive and kind that I felt like I'd just had a wonderful visit with my best friend.

Wilson starts out by sharing "what no one tells you about Anti-Aging" and even though folks have actually told me these things, I took to heart the message that "wise women know when to stop chasing the illusion of perfection and when to stop clinging to the past. They know when to stop resisting the inevitable changes that come with time." In the 10 chapters that follow, she explains the five principles of thoughtful aging.

My favorite line in this book is "thoughtful aging is not toxic positivity." That is, of course, followed up by the announcement that "ultimately, self-acceptance is the only way to fully embrace your beauty and how you choose to present yourself in the world." If you thought you were going to receive the great secret of timeless beauty, you might be disappointed to be reminded that cultivating grace and beauty has always been and will continue to be an inside job.

The subsequent chapters are where my newest best friend Alina offers clear and thoughtful suggestions for making any changes that might be useful in more fully accepting one's unique beauty. None of the suggestions are particularly new or unique (which probably means they are time-tested winners), nor does she insist that you embrace every suggestion. Instead, she gently shares that "though change is uncomfortable, to be sure, resisting change is even more uncomfortable" and ones' desire to live authentically can help one through great discomfort. Topics such as honoring your body, quieting your inner critic, connecting with the love that is the source of our beauty get caresses of attention. In these action chapters, she nudges us along with engaging exercises so that the reader is drawn into greater self-awareness and the development of their very own personal thoughtful aging plan. You can even take an online assessment to support or augment your own conclusions.

I am not a fan of surveys in self-help books used to support or verify the author's opinions. I find those little boxes a distracting Greek chorus ploy, so I when the boxes started up in this book, I groaned inwardly, but did find many of the comments as beautifully expressed as the author's own writing, so they were not terribly annoying.

Not only do I feel better about my own accelerating advancing aging, I believe I've solved a longstanding birthday gift dilemma for my women friends of all ages! This book comes in an e-version, but if you intend to follow through with all the exercises (or are of a certain age), you might prefer the print version. Heartfelt thanks to my new friend Alina for providing me with an early review copy of the book!

Not as much about aging naturally but more about aging on your own terms ( and that might include plastic surgery or botox)

Although I found my own way of aging there were still some questions I had, Looking for insights I took up this book. It covers aging

concerning looks, mind / spirit and health.

The writer addresses the reader directly and the book its based on her personal experience and surveys. But  I have mixed feelings about that. The writer lives in America ( this is of course the biggest market for this book)  but that and her personal circumstances makes it less fit for women from other parts of the world where the culture is ehm how do I explain this,.less occupied with eternal youth and cosmetic surgery.

The writer herself works/worked in the cosmetic surgery business and has at least had some botox herself ( although she says everybody should decide for herself if she finds this helpful in their own personal thoughtful aging process). So this book Is not as much about aging naturally but more about aging on your own terms ( and that might include plastic surgery or botox)

Although the writing style is meant to be personal, telling, amongst others, about what the writer learned from therapy, women she encountered in her cosmetic surgery career and quotes from survey takers ( I am not familiar enough with American institutions to be sure they were done by scientific or other kinds of institutions.)  I personally would have

preferred condensed and to the point info also, for example a recap at the end of chapter.
