Prequel to Afterthoughts - NOVELETTEJunior FBI agent Eliot Wong is assigned to Zylen Mental Hospital on a tip that they might be performing unethical research on their patients. At first, there doesn't seem to be much to it. At least, nothing to justify his commissioner's unease.

But then Eliot meets Kanara Jensen, a patient with a violent past and a (deceptively?) pretty face. Kanara has been hearing a voice in her head that gives her the ability to predict the future. It can't predict everything, but when it does make predictions, they're always correct.

And it started when she got to the hospital.

This was a pretty good prequel! I would definitely recommend reading it after the first book Afterthoughts! I fell more in love with Eliot and Kanara in this one

Such a good prequel! I wish it had been longer because it felt like we skipped over a lot, I wish there had been a little more information, but still such a great read and I can’t wait for the last book!

One thing I’ll add, DEFINITELY read this after Afterthoughts, even though the events of the book take place before Afterthoughts, if you read this first it’ll spoil a lot of the plot in Afterthoughts.

I am torn on how to feel about this. Foresight is a great prequel to Afterthoughts. It left me excited to get into Afterthoughts to find out what is going to happen.
Eliot is an undercover FBI agent sent into a mental hospital to investigate whether they are performing unethical experiments on their patients. Eliot gets assigned to a patient name Kanara but he is confused as to why she was sent there in the first place. She should be in prison. After spending time with her, he realizes she's not as dangerous as he thought and they warm up to each other, which is when she reveals to him that she's been hearing a voice in her head that has been telling her the future. Shortly after Eliot confesses that he is in love with Kanara and she with him, Eliot finds out his cover has been blown, the whole medical facility is leaving earth and moving to the moon, earth is basically about to be demolished, and the Dr is going to wipe the memory of his patients, Eliot is left with no choice but to go along with whatever the Dr wants. This is where I was torn. I wanted so badly for Eliot to be able to do something to save Kanara... but after I sat and thought I realized, there was nothing he could possibly do at this point. I can't wait to get into Afterthoughts to see where the rest of this story goes. This is exactly what a prequel is supposed to do, give you an intro into a story and leave you wanting and excited for the story. It was captivating and well written. Definitely recommend reading this!

This is a pretty solid prequel short story. After reading Afterthoughts, nothing new is cleared up in this story (Eliot did already gloss over all of these events at the end of Afterthoughts), but it is still always fun to get a new angle on things.

I’d say one of the aspects I liked the most was how many parallel there were between conversations and actions in the trial depicted in this story and Trial 60 in Afterthoughts. The conversations were all very slightly different, but the creepily similarities created a weird effect as the reader fully understands the extent to which the trial repeated each time. I feel like this could have definitely affected Eliot to be forced to replay such scenes over and over with the girl he loved.

All in all, I don’t think this was necessary to read for the series, but I definitely enjoyed it as it added a bit of depth of character to Eliot.

Foresight by Justine Alexi

Eliot is a junior FBI agent sent to a hospital to go undercover as an intern to find out what kind of malpractice the hospital staff are doing to their patients, which are a mix of criminals. Eliot quickly realizes he may not have all of the information he needs to pull off this job successfully.

This short prequel was amazing, after reading it I can’t help but to look forward to the book Afterthought. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat and i really can’t wait to start the next book. This is definitely a 5 star read! The ending is a cliffhanger, which contributes to my wanting to read the next book, Afterthought, but if you are okay with a little mystery at the end of a book then definitely read it!

I picked this up because I read the first book in the series and wanted to read how it all started. With Eliot first starting out and knowing the twists that come in the first book, I was enthralled to read the very start. A quick read, but one that had me turning the pages rapidly, desperate to know how it would all come together. Very much recommended, but also to be read after you’ve read the first book so that you get those twists and such in the right order!

This prequel has me so excited to see what is in store for the main book Afterthoughts! It was a very short and quick read with mystery, romance, sci-fi, and an internal voice that predicts the future. It seems to set things up for the main book to pick up right where this one ends. I can’t wait for Afterthoughts to be released in January!

Foresight by Justine Alexi is a fantastic prequel that will make you yearn for Afterthoughts, which will be released on January 13, 2025. The quick-read prequel introduces us to an amazing psychological thriller based in a futuristic mental health hospital. Eliot quickly became my favorite character as he juggles being empathetic to his patients while still completing the mission at hand.

If this is a teaser I am all in! Great writing and an amazing storyline. Strong characters and a leading relationship between them that draws you in and holds you. I am excited to see where this story continues too. I highly recommend read and if this is a taste of what's to come I certainly will be reading Afterthoughts.

A bit dramatic but an interesting concept. It isn’t meant to be a stand alone book but it gives enough information to make you interested in reading the book that follows this. Also hopefully it explains some of the technology they refer to.

📖 Book Review 📖

Book Title: Foresight
Author: Justine Alexi
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
✨ Review Summary ✨

🔹 Overall, I really enjoyed Foresight! It's short, as expected being a Prequel Novelette, but it left me with a lot of questions I'm looking forward to seeing answered when reading Afterthoughts.

🔹Being able to meet both of the main characters; Eliot Wong (the Junior FBI Agent assigned to Zylen Mental Hospital) and Kanara (who was sentenced there with a troubling past and kinda worrisome future) has me really eager to start Afterthoughts! The book left me with a shock and surprise nearly every page having a new twist in the story.

🔹 I would absolutely recommend reading this for anyone who likes Science Fiction or Mystery/Thrillers.

🔹 4/5 ⭐ Rating as the book threw a good chunk of information at you, things kinda kept coming out of nowhere and the catastrophe cliffhanger ending of the book wasn't something I thought would be coming at all; which isn't a bad thing but it did kinda throw me off.

I am grateful to have received a free advanced reader copy of this prequel and am leaving this review voluntarily. This was a very quick, interesting, and gently suspenseful read. I have not yet read Afterthoughts and am curious to see how the prequel supports the book. There is a touch of science fiction that is sprinkled throughout the read and even more deeply embedded in the end of the story, to a depth that I was not expecting. I am not the biggest fan of these types of sci-fi elements, but am still very interested in seeing the main characters' back stories and relationship expanded upon and developed.
