Not gonna lie, I forgot I was reading this...so I guess that is a statement as to how memorable it was, forgetting I was reading it at 79% finished. Whoops!
Rissa is a single mother to a 16 year old son. In her 30s and working as a school secretary she's convinced herself that she'd be a terrible mother if she took any time for herself, never mind dating! Simbel has had his eye on Rissa for awhile now, but she keeps turning him down...that is, until her son tells her to live a little and helps thrust her his way. Enter the whirlwind romance.
We get a couple of dates and then after maybe, maybe a couple of weeks, these two go out for a romantic date on Rissa's boat, get grounded because they forgot about the tide, bionk IN THE SAND on a beach, get 'rescued' by Riss's son Patrick and friends, then the next morning declare their undying love for each other with Patrick, a 16 year old teenager already calling Simbel Dad...like WTF happened?
I have NEVER met a teenager that can just flip a switch and be like "yeah, that dude's my dad now cause he dated my mother for less than a month, asked me if he could marry her, and then informed her that she is undoubtedly his mate and he is never letting her go." And here I was for the first 85% wondering how the f**k Rissa can afford a nice house WITH A GARAGE AND a nice, seaworthy boat with a dock in the marina. Like, what school does this woman work at that all of this is achievable on a secretaries' pay and how do I work there??? Anyhow, it was pretty good until the magical ready-made family moment.
Spice wise, is was pretty vanilla. The only thing I can think is, beach fun, emergency blanket in the area or no, sounds like a sure fire way to get sand in places it ought not be. Simbel was what I would call a sweet, good-time bro king of guy, and Patrick...is like the best teenage son ever really. Is just sssoooo okay with a guy coming in that he only really knows from a school police officer side of things, whirlwind romancing his mom and then moving in and calling him his son, etc. That kid has to be so laid back. But again it was that what, 5 page, thing that sank the rating for me.
