The Holdfast Twins – united by their dream mage blood, divided by the Sapphire Throne.
Kyra Holdfast is under house arrest, after her failed attempt to remove the Empress from power. Imprisoned by her own mother, her Quadrant taken, Kyra appears helpless. Her twin Cael Holdfast, loyal servant of the Empire, is also imprisoned. Held within a dungeon next to the Tempest Mine, Cael too seems helpless. While both twins languish in captivity, the war between the Sapphire Empire and the Dragon Dominion gathers pace, as each side readies its armies to strike at the other, in a conflict that will envelop all of the Known Worlds.
Cael and Kyra – bound by family ties, riven by their beliefs, hold the fate of the worlds in their hands.

About Me
I love deserts, which is too bad as I live in Scotland, but the mountains, glens and lochs more than make up for it. My other love is Greek Tragedy, especially Euripides, and I also read history, science, fantasy, and pretty much anything about the Beatles…

This series really keeps me so engrossed and dread reaching the last page so leaving me feeling a little lost and disappointed as I want the story to continue. But! The Margelands continues praise be.....
I truly enjoy this ongoing story and the best part for me is the characters. Without the brilliantly written characters, I'm not sure it would be possible to love the story as much as I do. Every character is unique with individual characteristics, talents, attributes and flaws that add to the story in some way.
The Holdfast family figures prominently throughout the story line and the third generation has now reached adulthood. Starting with the second generation of Holdfasts, we've watched these characters grow up. They have become a part of our book families and feel real to us in explicable ways. We cheer for them. We worry about them. And, as with actual family members who annoy us at times, we want to kick their butts. For too many, we mourn them. It is near impossible to feel indifference to any of main characters (and many of the side characters as well). And, every one of these characters has moved the story along in ways that are impossible to predict.
Sapphire Throne had me feeling so many different emotions that by the end I wanted to kick this author's butt. It would only be fair because this story kicked my butt. I loved it! Well done, sir, well done indeed!
The younger generation of Holdfasts cannot seem to agree about anything. Kyra feels singled out and isolated while Cael has decided to embrace his punishment and continue his service to the empire. Cole is still not sure of himself after all he has heard of his father and Arrosa is finally coming into her own. The twins are just like Granny Daphne and Great Aunty Keira-stubborn, defiant, arrogant and extremely powerful. They each have different views of the worlds and refuse to budge in their ideology. I found myself running the gambit of all my emotions and when the book climaxed I definitely was sobbing. The empire gets blamed for what happened, but in my mind it is well and truly Karalyn's fault. This story did not disappoint (except for a certain demigod still existing and scheming). If the series ended here I would be satisfied. Highly recommended !!
Sapphire Throne: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Dominion Book 9), my thirtieth read from prolific author Christopher Mitchell, 534-pages of epic fantasy. It’s almost 4 months since reading Palace of the Almighty: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Dominion Book 8). With more than 47 books published over 4 inter-conncted series it's no wonder that when I want to read epic fantasy I first look for Christopher Mitchell. I look forward to reading more from him, in fact The Lost Ascendant: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Dominion Book 10) is already on my TBR list and it won't be published until July of this year. “I received a complementary Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Wow what a book. Honestly these latter books in the Magelands series just keep getting better and better and this one was no exception. It's full of twists and turns and there is even some unexpected sadness (no spoilers!) along the way. Once again Christopher has deftly weaved his way through the three worlds along with all the gods and keeps you on the edge of your seat and thinking to yourself I'll just read one more chapter and before you know it, it's like 3am!
Seriously though this book is great and the ending leaves you thinking and wondering. It also encompasses some moral questions and issues like if you're god when should you step into and sort out a situation?
Another great book by Christopher Mitchell and what a conclusion. I have hated the Gods throughout the series and hate the blood thirstiness of them but the ending shows so much promise... or does it? Sad times with a major loss but I can see the beginning yet again in the ebbs and tides in this series. Will there be more, I hold my breath once again.
This is a Fantastic Epic Fantasy Series, And the Sapphire Throne is an Excellent addition to the Saga. The Holdfast's Once again are at War with those Pesky "gods". And without giving away any spoilers this one will make you sad.The Twists and Turns, make the War Very Intense. Magical Battles with Dragon's galore. There is a Ton going on .I am an Honest ARC reviewer .
Absolutely fantastic read. I would highly recommend any reader starts from the start of this series and works there way through. Amazing story lines plenty dramas and twists and an overall fantastic cannot put them down books. I have enjoyed every second of binge reading this series from start to finish and can't wait to keep going with more from this author.
This whole series has been the most amazing set of books I've had the privilege of reading. In reviews I prefer not to give away any story lines or secrets & won't start now. But I give Christopher Mitchell his due, he is a master story teller.
Well he did it again. Took one of my favorite characters and killed them. What is wrong with you. That assclown Naxor is still alive and going to cause all kinds of trouble. What is so wrong with having one happy family. Oh well as usual a great book but don’t mean I like you
Without a doubt Christopher Mitchell knows how to keep you on the hook, till the end when you either cry or sigh with relief and regretting you just read the last page Brilliant and gripping
