I’ve been on lockdown in the Hidden City for weeks now. Everyone thinks I’m hiding from the Alpha because I disobeyed his orders one too many times. And, well… I have. He’s coming for me; I know that.
But he’s also coming for Myf, my mysterious agoraphobic pantry-dwelling Welsh friend, and I can’t let him take her. She’s hiding a dangerous secret — one I need her to share with me so I can protect her.
It might be too late. The Alpha is coming, and I’m not ready to face him.
And the worst part is, he’s not coming alone.
The Wolf Vs The Shifter is book three in the Hidden City Supernatural Sleuth, a hot new Urban Fantasy series by bestselling author Lauretta Hignett.
A raving fangirl for all things paranormal, supernatural, supernormal and fantastical, Lauretta writes fun Urban Fantasy, PNR and Superhero adventures with a dash of sweet romance and humour.
She's a massive fan of Young and New Adult fiction, loves a plot twist, hates cliffhangers, and always keeps her readers on their toes.
When she's not writing, Lauretta enjoys fad diets, sunshine, her two little children, weird craft projects and massive amounts of dark chocolate
I always look forward to a new book from this author and work myself up into a tizzy of excitement before I settle down to read it, this time being no exception. I mean I literally DEVOURED it in six hours, and let me tell you, I have never read a book in that time frame before but I was utterly transfixed and I couldn't take my eyes off the pages if my life dependend on it. I laughed, I cried, I got so angry at times, I screamed profanities at my kindle (knowing that the characters couldn't hear me) but doing it anyway. I let myself get swept away into this uniquely crazy, hilariously funny world that only Lauretta's genius can bring to the table. For me this is her best book so far, and I want, no I NEED more.
When Daphne constantly defied The Alpha Alexei Minoff, she made a powerful enemy. Staying within the Hidden City to avoid him, Daphne knows it won't be long before her time runs out and he will come for her. But he's not coming for her alone, he also wants her mysterious roommate Myf, and he'll stop at nothing to get his hands on her. With the clock ticking, Daphne has to find a way to protect herself and her pantry dwelling friend, who has a powerful secret. One that could be used to destroy them all.
Once again I can't say just how much I adore my girl Daphne, the kind, compassionate uniquely different wolf shifter who has the ability to make powerful allies or dangerous enemies, who stole my heart from the second I met her. Even now with all that she has come up against before, people STILL underestimate her and I just love it when she proves otherwise. And when she defers to Brain Daphne, my heart skips a beat because I KNOW chaos isn't far behind. Brain Daphne has zero filter, takes no prisoners and is magnificent in all her glory, yeah I just know me and her would be best friends.
Romeo once more had my heart in all a flutter, how could it not be, after all he's delectable. Even though he is in as much danger as Daphne he thinks nothing of rushing to her side when she needs help. I love everything about him, how he gets her, how he understands her differences, how much he needs her as much as she does him. I've said it before and I'll say it again, these two are puzzle pieces that fit together perfectly and they are made for each other. Swoon.
I've always loved Myf, the baking whizz who lives in Daphne's pantry. Now so far throughout these books I've been trying (and failing) to figure out who and what she is, but I definitely wasn't expecting that huge surprise. After literally picking my jaw up from the floor, my surprise turned to joy and I can't wait to find out where her character takes me next. I also think there should be a Myf cookbook with all the delicious recipes she makes which is guaranteed to make my mouth water every time.
And my glorious murder goose Dwayne, who jumps, nope make that pole vaults over the line to his previous antics, had me in absolute fits of laughter, so much so I couldn't actually breathe. I am eagerly awaiting what trouble he can get up to next.
After breezing through this book so rapidly, I know it's gonna be a long wait until the next one, but I'll take comfort in the fact that by then my excitement will be off the charts. So once again my countdown begins. A perfect 10/10 highly recommend 😁
I tried to take it slow; I really did, but it’s impossible with a story as good as this is. You just have to grab hold, strap in (wink, wink), and hang on for dear life whilst navigating the twists and turns that Lauretta takes you on in this next installment in The Hidden City Supernatural Sleuth series.
Daphne, along with the pantry-dwelling Myf are being hunted by the beastly, brutish alpha pack leader Minoff. Utilising her many skills to stay hidden, Daphne does her best to evade capture; however, the polar bear shifter now has some dangerous allies aiding him in capturing his prey. Everyone’s favourite battle goose, Dwayne, finds himself in a bit of strife (he has his, ahem, weaknesses after all). Could a fae lady that ranks very, very high on the hot, crazy scale be his saviour???Romeo is dealing with his own problems, but when he learns about Daphne's situation, he will stop at nothing to get to her. You gotta love the way this man adores her. He would happily murder anyone that even slightly threatens her but is content to stand aside and let her take care of business—the stabbing, killing kind of business that is.
There’s so much to this fast-paced, action-packed read that it will have you choking on your coffee (or wine!) as you laugh hysterically, raging against the many injustices suffered and gasping out loud as secrets are revealed.
There's just so much to love about this series; Lauretta’s storytelling is outstanding in every way. I can’t wait to find out what’s next for Daphne and her pals.
O.M.G., I just finished this, and I did not see that ending coming! I can’t believe that Dapne is…well, really, I can’t say as I don’t want to spoil anything, but wow, just wow! Daphne can’t catch a break in this latest as finally the alpha wants her, and Myf, at any cost. He’s throwing everything he has at her, and, of course, underestimating her like everyone does. This latest is even better than the ones before, and I can’t say enough good things about it. I have to share a quote that just encapsulates Daphne: “Shush,” I told him, “I’m dissociating. Give me a minute.” I just adore the heck out of Daphne, and I think she is one of my favorite characters of all of the ones I’ve read. Anyway, fans of this author and series is in for a surprising, wild ride with this non-stop action, fun, thrill ride. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This gripping read will set your heart racing and leave you eagerly panting for the next book. Enjoy another 5-star masterpiece from the talented Lauretta Hignett!
I literally threw everything aside when this book landed, told my husband NOT to disturb me and even put my phone on silent! Excessive? Absolutely not! If you have read ANY of these books, you would so understand the compulsion, the overriding urge and need to get back into this very engaging world. Plus... there's Daphne and Dwayne you know, THEY are an addiction of note, hells bells, this author is my version of crack! And I'm getting my fix...oh boy did I ever get my fix!
Daphne is still undecided what to do about Romeo, so she throws herself into her work while trying to keep off the radar, away from the Alpha from hell, Minoff. Minoff is the slimeball of slimeballs, intent on bringing Daphne under foot, no, not under his command, he wants to stamp out all resistance from her and do whatever the heck his diseased mind conjures. She manages to evade him quite famously, until...oh flipping heck, until everything goes to hell in a fruit basket! Schemes, plot, nefarious intentions, this is the order of the day for Minoff, and he's recruiting big time, witches, ogres, trolls, you name it, he's luring them onto his side, promising to get rid of the Warlock while he "secures" Daphne. What follows is dark, twisted and my heart was hammering so loudly, at a rate of knots, I could see my pulse points vibrating! This time both Dwayne and Daphne are in danger, mega danger. Such freaking anxiety for me! BUT, and it's a very big but, Ms Hignett took an extremely tense moment and turned on my giggling mode, full force! Good glory, I dare you not to laugh at what Asherah sees, says and does, while not even focusing on the perils of the situation, totally oblivious to this deadly perilous...more interested in the "toys" around her. Hilarious!
There are few characters that can keep me as rapt as Daphne, Dwayne and Romeo, I WANT them all to succeed, I WANT them all to be safe and happy. Except that's far from the case, they face so much more than one mere lunatic Alpha, they face strife from all corners, even there own. Romeo is just divine, his all encompassing love for Daphne melts my heart, I kinda want him to "eliminate" all the threats to her. But he's under threat too, from inside his own camp. As High Priest, he's a target for one particular greedy family, who want his position. Daphne stole my heart in a previous series as a child, slightly unstable but heck, after what she'd been through, it's no wonder! Oh do love the internal strife and battle Daphne has with herself, 2 entirely different voices, Heart Daphne and Brain Daphne, battle it out in her head. But she would be lost without brain Daphne, a rather savage "entity" that helps keep her alive. And WHAT she survived later on, well flip! That's Daphne, a survivor of all horrors and golly were there many, only to endure more torture at the hands of Christopher. Only determination and a very cool, very angry knight in shining armour saved the day...and Daphne. But was, there's more, oh so much more! Laura spun me around and around with the twists, unforseen, unpredictable twists.
Daphne has grown so much through the series, she's sharp, she's savvy, she's kind, she's compassionate, she's a beacon of hope for those who are intimidated, fearful. And she has friends, real friends, like Myf, the snarky young girl she saved, like the fashion ester Countess who's so much more than a diva. Of course, Dwayne is the biggest diva of all! My word is he amazing! I adore his foul mouth, his protectiveness of Daphne and the hilarity each time he appears. Daphne will go to great lengths to keep her friends safe, and she does... putting herself in danger for them, even challenging the vile Minoff! What a battle that was! OMG! My heart was in my throat one minute, then dropped to my stomach and surged up again! So dramatically brilliant, tense and real. But this author is a genius, in amongst ALL of this blood, gore and rocking action, she suddenly inserted a super awesome event, with the super awesome Dwayne and the super awesome Asherah that an involuntary laugh spurted out my mouth.
The surprises hit hard and fast, revelations dropped like arrows through the air, I mean, MYF!!!???? Holly???? Oh lordie, gobsmack and jaw dropping doesn't even begin to describe it! This is a magnificent read, a hard and dark read at times, but with the beauty of love, support that always lurks in the background, there's humour, there's the most marvelous banter. Lauretta leaves no stone unturned to reveal an explicit complex plot made so elucidate. This series is penned with immense skill and craftsmanship, the intensity and dark tone saturates the pages, captivatingly, rendering me immobile, transfixed, until I've finished reading it. This read is magically majestic!
What an amazing ride this book was!!! Daphne is still being hunted by the Alpha, Minoff. She’s been hiding in the Hidden City knowing that she is safest there, closest to her wards. But Minoff has finally been driven to drastic measures. Minoff and a team made up of shifter, trolls, ogres, witches and berserkers have blown up he only way into and out of the Hidden City. Now Daphne is being hunted while the witches try to break into her warded apartment. And of all times for Dwayne to go on a hot date, this had to be the worst! I absolutely love everything about this book! Daphne is unhinged in the best possible way! Heart Daphne is such a sweet person, but Brain Daphne definitely wrestles control when it's go time. And there was plenty of "go time" in this book. Daphne is in a deadly game of hide and seek, trying to take out as many of Minoff's minions as possible. And the suspense! Gah! There were times where I was biting my nails waiting to find out how Daphne would come out of a situation. And all the crap she has to go through, this was an emotional read at times as well. But there is definitely a lighter side to this as well! Dwayne, oh Dwayne... he takes things to a whole other level in this book as well! The things that he can be lured into a trap with are hilariously amazing. And the relationship between him and the Fae ambassador keeps me giggling. And there are some reveals in this book as well! Daphne realizes how she really feels and Myf's supernatural type is revealed. We also get a deeper look into Daphne's darkness and what she has been keeping hidden as well. And unfortunately, someone else will figure it out as well. Once I started this book, I could not put it down!! I seriously can't wait for the next book to see what that will bring for everyone in the Hidden City! The whole series is amazing, so if you haven't started it, you really should!
The Wolf Vs The Shifter (The Hidden City Supernatural Sleuth Book 3) by Lauretta Hignett is a great terrifying book.
It simultaneously gives the reader more insight into multiple characters but starts to move all of the major characters into new stages where you can see the ultimate danger and darkness coming for them.
We learn who Myf, there is a thrilling dramatic scene at the end where several plots crash together into one chaotic mess and battle.
Great elements here that make this exciting , or disturbing if you think about it, are Dwayne, the goose chaos god and his dalliances with the Fae Princess, and how they have enormous roles here. Myf, our closet hiding enigma gets her big reveal. And the vile polar bear Alpha gets his comeuppance, finally.
Hignett doesn’t forget to write in the small emotional moments that make the reader remember that there are many children and vulnerable innocent individuals whose lives are at stake in the outcome of the events here. Not just a part of the Hidden City but a small orc child in danger.
Then the reader sees that the narrative continues to explore all aspects of Daphne’s life, both as the paranormal child social worker and as that as yet unknown entity that hasn’t been revealed.
Romeo and gang is here but recovering from the recent events.
It’s a grand story, scary and serious. Sets the tone for the next one in the series.
I’m highly recommending this author and series. So creative and well written.

Daphne is not having a great time. In addition to needing to stay in the Hidden City to stay away from a predatory alpha, her alpha (all hail Dwayne!) is missing. Not only is Dwayne missing, but she has to deal with abusive ogres who believe the word no doesn't apply to them. Sometimes Heart-Daphne needs to let Brain-Daphne take the reins and let the blades fly.
This is an excellent book. While there was less Dwayne than previous books, the book was not lacking in sass or support for Daphne. "The Wolf Vs. The Shifter" was heart-wrenching not because of the perpetual live or death circumstances that Daphne frequently finds herself in, but because she has to reframe all past experiences with someone she knew and trusted. While the Hidden City may not be real, the dynamics Daphne experiences are. It is both saddening and incredibly validating how Lauretta depicted Daphne's struggle with the collision of who she thought someone was and who they actually are. This book does an excellent job of showing Daphne's capabilities as well as the community she has made for herself.
I got up this morning and immediately downloaded this book (release day today) and then spend the day devouring this book, there were a few things that I was supposed to do that I ignored for this read. Daphne has had a hard life, from being an abused child in a cult, to a teenager lost between worlds, all alone with only herself to talk to: survival is what she knows best. Now a child protection agent for other children in Philadelphia, she is holed up in the hidden city to stay away from the asshole alpha shifter Alexi. She is trying to stay away from him and also save her friend Myf, the strange supernatural that hides in her closet. Alexi is coming and he’s bringing a lot of friends. And someone from her past, who she thought was a friend, has also shown up wanting to claim her as well. This book is about Daphne’s fight for survival, the people around her, and what she can do. There is a lot of action, surprises, humour (Dwayne and the Fae princess is not something I will forge soon – it was priceless). I can’t think of anything about this book I didn’t love, except having to wait for the next one as there is a bit of a cliffhanger. This is a fantastic book and series as are all of Lauretta Higgnet’s books.
Daphne is BACK!! Once again, she is amazing. Hiding out from the local Alpha, but still doing her job. First off, she's helping a young ogre and does what she does best. Calm and sweet, until she's not. Dwayne's is off for a booty call and can't help her atm, but an unexpected ally shows up. This proceeds to start the book and hooks you fast. It's so delightfully dark and delicious with some endearing moments and some that make your heart fill to bursting with emotion. The Alpha organizes a sneak attack and Daphne has to be stealthy and smart. Turns out, he's made friends and brought them to grab her....and her roommate and keep Dwayne occupied. Our Fae ambassador is also looking for Dwayne with hilarious intent. Romeo also comes in to help, but he's weakened a little by the energy expended and of course the Countess is here too. We also find out who Myf really is and while I had guessed it, it still came as a shock, and no, I'm not telling you! You must read it. All in all, it's a fantastic book and wonderful foray back into this world and I can't wait for the next. Lauretta has outdone herself and continues to do so. Highly recommended and I'd give more than 5 stars if I could, it's that good.
Okay, how many people are currently living in Daphne’s head? We’ve got Heart Daphne and Brain Daphne, who feel like completely different people. Then there’s the Darkness, which seems to be multiple entities imprisoned inside her mind?? No wonder she’s a bit lulu.
And speaking of crazy, I thought most of the characters’ bizarre behavior in the last book was because of the obsession-demon. But no. They’re all still completely unhinged.
Dwayne is insane. His girlfriend is insane. All the girls trying to seduce Romeo while he’s on a date? Also insane. Daphne’s coworkers? Absolutely wild. It’s honestly harder to name a single sensible character in this entire series.
And yet? I’m obsessed.
This series is so dumb and funny. It gives me major Annette Marie vibes, only more chaotic.
Also… that final scene where Romeo’s planning what to do with the lion-shifter’s hide?? That killed me 🤣🤣
*Small correction from my last review: NOW Myph is officially out of the pantry. And she’s revealed her class, too! Of course she’s a dragon. A shifter who smells like a fire elemental? “Too dangerous to reveal”? In hindsight, it was obvious. I think literally everyone figured it out except me. I kind of forgot she wasn’t actually a hobgoblin.

What do you do when you're being hunted by a psychotic polar bear shifter who wants to steal your agoraphobic roommate? Grab your blades, don your battle gear and kick butt like a tiny, purple-haired Terminator, of course.
Daphne, the caring social worker / ferocious killing machine, is the poster child for badass heroines; fierce, creative, and as messed up as a toddler's toybox. Luckily, she has her crew of equally deranged allies on her side - a super-powerful mobster Countess, a fae princess wielding an extremely unusual weapon, and Dwayne, the inimitable godly murder goose, whose appetites cannot be denied.
This book made me scream with laughter, rage at the injustice, and shiver with horror, sometimes all in one chapter. The main story arc progresses masterfully, and the delicious warlock (sadly minus his two-wheeled chariot in this instalment) is more glorious than ever. You won't want to miss this.
There were some continuity issues, which are always annoying, like jumping from having made it through 11-years of off-world "adventures" (as frequently mentioned in books 1+2) to it suddenly being 15-years of off-world "adventures".
Also I found it a bit weird that they're already throwing the L-word around when they've only met like Maybe twice before. It was just as weird as when they go the more common storytelling way of dragging it out ad nauseum.
Plus yet more familiar elements, like the openly admitted 'Mockingjay' references, Middle Earths 'Ents' or McHugh's 'Prison of Hope' (although that one she'd definitely hinted at before)... it's getting a little crowded or like someone threw the kitchen sink at it. But the one I definitely hated the most, was 'Lennox Arran ' the Lion Shifter - an evil Curran Lennart wannabe ... So yeah all in all I enjoyed this a lot less than the last two
Daphne is her brilliant, wonderful self, but she does give Brain Daphne a little more of a say in this book, which is packed with so much action and peril, to keep you on the edge of your seat. The threat from shifter leader Minoff, which has been building over the previous books, now hits with an explosive impact, as he comes after both Daphne and Myf.
There are so many twists, reveals and hints of so much more to come, that I just can’t wait for the next book. Each has a more powerful impact than the last and Daphne beds herself into your heart, the more that you learn about her.
Dwayne, our murder goose overlord, doesn’t feature quite as much in this book, but when he does feature, he steals the scene in a way that only Dwayne could do. Top tip: put your drink down before reading Dwayne’s scenes!
Aaaaaah ok so the third books in Lauretta's series are my favorite. It's like, the world is established, we know the players, now it's time for our FMC to shine. This book really focused on heart Daphne and Brain Daphne coming back into more cohesive agreement. Watching the whole of Daphne fight to protect not just herself, but also the people she has come to care for. Also, there's this line about Romeo and I'm pretty sure it's the hottest thing ever 🫠
Daphne has defied the city's sadistic alpha. And now he is determined to not only make her pay, but to take Myf as well. Now the Hidden City has been sealed with Daphne inside without backup. But everyone underestimated Daphne. They see a flawed wolf girl but lurking inside of her is a wrath and violence that she rarely gets to display.
Violence, internal debates, an unnecessary rescue, a pissed off warlock, and Dwayne (with his new babe) feature center stage in this amazing new adventure.
This series keeps getting better more and more exciting and action packed!
Daphne has been hiding from the creepy shifter leader. Not only is he brutal and vicious, he's a polar bear shifter and no one dares to stand up to him—not the sexy lion MMA fighter, and not anyone in his pack.
Daphne has been ignoring him and staying in the Hidden City to avoid him. Well, he's had enough. Sure he's annoyed at her, but mainly she's an excuse to get what he really wants.
I won't give anything else away, but trust me this one starts wild and ends wilder! You don't want to miss the fun! Plus Dwayne is...well, Dwayne.
Highly recommend if you like intense action, goofy side characters, and kickass heroines on the crazy side (oh, you also get more hints about why Daphne is like she is)!

REVIEW
The plot thickens. There was always danger but now that danger is at Daphne's doorstep ready for compensation.
Intriguing. Thrilling. Gruesome.
But the book lacked the unstable and dark tone that it was trying to portray. There is something about the choice of words and long ramblings that stops the book from being a homerun. More than that, the info dump really needs to be handled better—perhaps broken down into parts.
Other than that, it was a good read. Kept me engaged into the storyline and rooting for the FL.
She's only gone and done it again! Lauretta Hignett is the kind of author who has you fully emersed into their world so an action packed magical movie is playing inside your head.
This book follows our wayward heroine as she is hiding from the shifter Alpha whilst also trying to do her job as social worker extraordinaire in the hidden city.
I don't want to give away any spoilers but suffice to say it all goes tit's up and we are them taken on a gripping adventure of cat n mouse. Our favourite godly goose is in top form and I don't think I'll ever be able to scrub a particular scene from my brain lol
If you've read the others in this series then you know you're in for a good time! So what are you waiting for?? Pre-order, download and strap yourself in!!
I was a little apprehensive about reading this book 📖 because of the title. The Wolf and The Shifter. Because that could only mean one thing, Alexei Minoff 😳
So when I started it I was nervous, but then I remembered that this is Daphne, she is strong and resourceful. Although, she can get a little carried away having conservations with herself 😁
I'm not going to ruin the book by giving any of the plot away. All I will say is that this series is getting better and better, and I never thought that would be possible. Lauretta Hignett is a fantastic author and one that I am following, not stalking, to make sure I don't miss anything.
If you want to know Dwayne' origins then read The Waif in the Wilds series, you definitely won't be disappointed 🥰💞📚
Crazy, off the hook nutz, with a survivor willing to kindly redirect or stab, fight & or kill everyone.
Have you ever had a really bad day….like a child slavery, child molestation, had a fatal gun wound that healed, just so some jerk could stab you, & have no F’s when he did it? All while being a public health worker/public servant? Well, Daphne has; & I’ve had some doozies too. Thankfully. we all have that internal monologue, not because we’ve all luckily no emerged as a shifter, but merged with our inner beast? And our new boyfriend that we dreamed of killing for a while, after killing our surrogate mum? Ya, that in a spicy fantasy…eat your heart out Oprah & harlequin romances, that were never good enough. Thank you for the books, a new fav by far!!!!
This book totally gave me Curran-Kate and/or Rogan-Nevada vibes except the FMC is more on the crazy side.
This whole book was awesome! The "will burn down the whole world for you" trope got me and I'm so excited to read how else their relationship will develop. Now that Alexei Minoff have been dealt with, new challenges popped up - Lennox who's the new alpha shifter and Christopher Jupiter who somehow got a glimpse of Daphne's secret while he was torturing her.
I hope that the way they will be dealt with in the next book will be satisfying - as satisfying as all the other books so far. I hope that I will not be disappointed.
Totally recommend this series to lovers of paranormal romance and fans of Ilona Andrews.
Well.....when Lauretta said on her Facebook page that things would get wild in this book she wasn't jesting!
This series is going from strength to strength and the both harrowing and hilarious situations and dialogue our characters get themselves into just sucks you right in to the story.
We see a lot of reveals in this book, who is Myf, what is Myf, what is the alpha shifter up to, what is the darkness that Daphne is so afraid of and so so much more.
We don't see quite as much Dwayne in this book but what we do see is absolutely hilarious! So many quotes not enough tshirts!!
Roll on the next one, Lauretta Hignett never disappoints.
I couldn’t put the book down, another night choosing reading over sleep! I love reading Lauretta Hignett’s story, and this didn’t disappoint. The storytelling pulls you in, the action keeps you turning the pages, and the characters keep you invested. In this instalment we learn more about Daphne and Myf, get to meet new players in the supernatural community of Philadelphia, and though we don’t see Dwayne much; however, what we do see is hilarious. I can’t wait to read the next book, or any book Lauretta Hignett writes!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Alexei Minoff the Alpha shifter is after Daphne. Shes working her Child Protection position from within the Hidden City to avoid the Alpha's orders to subdue her. Now he's coming for her & her roommate Myf, and bringing the worst and the biggest of the baddies ~ Ogres, Mercs, Shifters, Trolls, and Witches. A Golden-Boy Lion shifter wants to claim her too. Guardian and BFF Dwayne is nowhere to be found. Her allies remain few and scattered. Together, Brain/Heart Daphne struggles to contain the darkness and the evil. This is book 3 in Daphne's saga and the tension, love, and power are ratcheted up higher and higher with each chapter! Definitely 5 STARS!!
Wow! I picked this up and could not put it down until it was finished, I love how with each book you get another piece of the puzzle that is Daphne and I absolutely adore the family she is collecting. In each book a little more of the mysteries surrounding them are uncovered and although I usually hate cliffhangers the ending of this book was just perfect, without giving anything away all I can say is OMG! It is a very fast moving single POV where we get to know Brain Daphne a lot better as well as unravelling some big secrets. Dwayne is magnificent as always and I really hope we get more of the Countess in the next book!
Between a 4.5 and a 4.75. I had a blast reading this one. The pacing worked much better, so I was always engaged. Dwayne continues to be a bit too trashy and crude for my taste, but Ms. Hignett always has one character like that in every one of her series. So I’ve learned to just deal with it because I really like her writing otherwise.
This was a very eventful book. We learn about Myf’s secret, deal with the crappy alpha, discover something important about Daphne, see the progression of Daph and Rome’s relationship and partnership, and have more scheming by the witches.
Rome thinking about furniture design and the use of fur in the epilogue absolutely cracked me up.
Funny, crazy, chaotic, and Dwayne — what more could you want?
If you’re this far into Daphne’s story, you know exactly what kind of predicaments she finds herself in. Except this time, Dwayne is mysteriously absent when all heck breaks loose in the Hidden City. In fact, most of Daphne’s allies are missing or unable to enter the Hidden City, leaving Daphne to go Predator on the invading army that’s combing the pocket dimension for her.
It’s the usual mix of hysteria and hilarity as Brain-Daphne and Heart-Daphne wrestle for control. And while Daphne is being hunted, the real prize is Myf. If Minoff gets his grubby paws on Myf, all bets are off. No pressure or anything.
