As a high school principal I have read my fair share of leadership books over the years. I was overjoyed to see this new title from Harvest House that addressed leadership from a biblical perspective. This is a wonderful book for leaders of any field of work as the principles of biblical leadership apply to all facets of life. Each chapter is written by a different minister or Christian apologist. I found great value in all the chapters, but one stood out to me as particularly meaningful as it has direct application to something I’m grappling with currently. The chapter on leading through crises was full of wisdom and practical tips for me. These two Charles Spurgeon quotes are now going to be in my office as daily reminders.

“You can’t always stop people’s tongues, and therefore the best thing to do is to stop your own ears and never mind what is spoken. There is a world of idle chit-chat abroad.” Charles Spurgeon

“Judge it to be a small matter what men think or say of you, and care only for their treatment of your Lord. If you are naturally sensitive do not indulge the weakness, nor allow others to play upon it.” Charles Spurgeon

Many thanks to Harvest House for a complimentary copy of this book! All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I loved this book, and not just because I share the same last name as the general editor and author (no relation). I often found myself pausing in the middle of chapters to pray, and this book will transform your thinking.

One of my favorite sections dealt with the whole “leaving a legacy” thing that a lot of churches push and how it’s not a biblical principle. The only thing we should concern ourselves with is that upon our death, our Redeemer says, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matt 25:21) Exactly! Leaving a “legacy” often alludes to pride, and is the antithesis of humbleness. Whereas the challenge is to move mountains for God, but seek solely his blessing as a reward and not praise of man.

I feel like this book just scratched the surface, and I’d love to read a follow up on this subject. No other book that I’ve found really taps into the macro-leader approach like this book does. Highly recommend!
