Rose, her son James, and her husband Grant, move in with Grant's mother Evelyn in her mansion home. Evelyn has Parkinson's and needs help managing things and caring for herself, but isn't that friendly to Rose. Is she trying to break them up? With James at a new school, Rose hires Isabel as his tutor, but Isabel has her own agenda. What does she REALLY want?

This is told from the perspectives of Rose, Evelyn and Isabel. It was fantastic to have different points of view regarding the same events. I flew through this in no time, and though I could foresee most of the twists, there were a few that took me by surprise. The suspense was constant throughout with a steady pace that ramped up to an exciting conclusion. You do need to suspend some disbelief but boy is this a fun and juicy read!

If you like family drama, characters who all have secrets and not knowing who's reality to trust, then definitely grab THE TUTOR. It's a fabulous little domestic thriller that will have you licking the butter off your popcorn lovin fingers!

Well I didn't see that coming. Or that. Or THAT! 😱

The Tutor is a twisty book full of surprising twists. I was addicted from the beginning and couldn't put it down. I really liked the multi POVs, the surprises were shocking yet plausible. The ending was perfect, a bit emotional and heartwarming.

Well done.

After receiving The Tutor by Courtney Psak in the mail, I started reading it that night and ended up devouring it!

Told from three stereotypical perspectives - Rose (the wife), Isabel (the tutor), and Evelyn (the mother in law) - it was easy to know exactly whose side I was on!

But then...

Psak wrote this psychological thriller so carefully, methodically and intricately that soon my opinions completely flipped! My mind was short circuiting, scrambling (in a good way), diligently working at re-framing those first impressions!

Although I never give half stars, this one slots itself well above four-stars, though falls just shy of five (though I am still racking my brain to figure out what exactly it's missing - and keep coming up empty handed)! So, maybe it falls at a 4.9 star rating!

If you're looking for an easy reading thriller that ticks all the boxes - this is the one!

Thank you Kaye Publicity for the complimentary copy to read and review.

Did I guess what happened… of course I did… until the twist, then a lot of what I thought I knew was in fact wrong 😂 great twist too!

I really enjoyed this one. Courtney’s writing style flowed well and made it easy to read and want to keep on reading.

Multi POV’s for those of us who enjoy those. It certainly helped to build the story.

Certainly had a few questions and theories going on at the start and I like that. Means the book was capturing my attention and making me think! There’s a few secrets about each character and you get little teasers about things that get you guessing.

You will change your opinion on certain characters in this book and it’s understandable why.

I enjoyed the friendship between Isabel and James and thought all of the characters were written to a standard where you enjoyed reading about them and they played their role well in the story.

Great book from Courtney and I look forward to reading more.

Thank you Netgalley, the publisher and author for an ARC in exchange for my honest review

Oh how I loved this book! I found it to be quite entertaining, and it pulls you right into the story from the jump. I love Psak’s writing.

They thought their expensive gate would keep away those with ill intentions, but they failed to realize that sometimes you invite the crazy right on in, all on your own.

Rose has the best life until she pays for a tutor for her son James. Isabel has her own agenda and tutoring isn’t at the top of that list. Rose is about to learn the truth about her perfect little family. And she’s sure to get more than she’s paid for.

𝕄𝕖𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖:
Southern Comfort - I don’t know how I chugged that crap back in the day 🤮 just the thought of it makes me sick. 😂

I loved how layered this story was - it’s complex and messy and just perfect. The story is told from the perspectives of Rose, Evelyn, and Isabel and unfolds in such a way that you won’t want to put this one down until it’s finished.

I read this one a couple of months ago and should have written my review back then 🫣.

Amazing debut novel from a fantastic new author! If you love suspense and who-done-it stories, then this book is for you. I kept thinking I knew what was going on, but the twists and turns had me second guessing the whole time and kept those pages turning just so I could find out what happened next. The ending was a real rollercoaster. Loved this book, definitely add it to your list!

Before I launch into my review, I would like to say a huge thank you to Courtney Psak, Hodder & Stoughton, and Netgalley for the Advanced Digital Reader Copy of this title. For anyone with their eye on this novel, here is my personal review of the book to help you decide whether you are interested or not. All opinions offered are my own.

If I were to market the book lyrically, this is the song that sums up the plot and the mood - Get Out (While You Still Can): https://open.spotify.com/track/5qV0VF...

Shortly after settling into her married life with Grant, Rose and her son, James’s, lives are uprooted when the family decide to move to Florida to care for Grant’s mother, Evelyn, in her mansion. Evelyn’s thoughts about the happy couple are clear to the reader from the start, but her actions tell a different story. To complicate matters, Isabel is hired as a tutor to make life easier for James and aid his transition to his new school. But Isabel seems to want to be more than just a tutor? Why has she manipulated her way into this household? And what secrets is she holding?

The story starts with Isabel in stealth mode, searching in places she should not be. She appears unhinged as she stalks the Caldwells along the East Coast. From the onset, the story is cloaked in deceit and suspense. Chapter 2 sees the novel cuts to Rose to pick up the story, where we travel with her to Palm Beach and learn of the family dynamics. Again, suspense continues to build, particularly when Evelyn picks up the baton and gives the reader cause for concern about the way she is trying to wreck her son, Grant’s marriage to Rose. The saying keeping your friends close, and your enemies closer appears to be a philosophy she lives by.

Whilst Rose and Evelyn’s lives as daughter- and mother-in-las are entwined, it was interesting to watch their dynamics. Neither seem to know each other well but appear to have fairly firm opinions about each other. Watching these feelings being unpacked and the reasoning behind them is one of the key drivers of the story. The biggest question mark, however, is around Isabel and why it is so important for her to teach at James’s school, whilst tutoring him after hours. I enjoyed reading how she instrumented her outcomes. That said, I was not blown away by the conclusion.

Psak, gently builds the novel, weaving several stories like a plait that tightly winds together once fully formed. It keeps a steady pace throughout the whole novel. Although it was a page-turner, I did not find myself wanting to speed up or slow down at any point. I was happy to coast with reading and taking in the family drama that unfolded. This was potentially due to the small cast of characters making it easy to get to know each one well. They were even likeable, regardless of what side of the good or evil divide they were on.

Whilst the story was a pure mystery at the beginning, by the time the reader reaches the mid-point, there are a number of clues befitting of an amateur detective. I found myself piecing the pieces together at a rapid rate. I loved the story, but…and it is a big but, it was not the thriller for which I was hoping. Instead of the big ‘aha’ moment, a bit like a heavily shaken bottle of champagne being opened and generating a fountain, it was more like a gentle pop and a wisp of gas.

I liked the characters. I liked how they all fit together. I enjoyed the end. I enjoyed the journey to get to the end of the novel. Yet, there is something missing that I just cannot put my finger on. I suppose I would have liked more fanfare. Although the story includes deaths that occur outside the duration of the book, and although there are some high stakes situation, there is minimal bloodshed, and not enough time to summon a panic. The climax is short-lived.

Would I recommend the book? Yes. Despite the lack of deep-rooted excitement, the characterizations are written well. I can quite believe that the characters could exist with all their traits in the real world. The scenarios are believable in a fictional world, and plotted against the history, the timeline of events is well-spaced, and the writing is easy to follow. Is it the book of the year? Definitely not, but Psak has the potential to claim that accolade in the future. Thrill-seekers might be a little disappointed with the balance of mundane versus action in the grand scheme of things if they are comparing the book to others that share a category but this is a book that would easily keep me entertained on a commute to work, on a cold evening curled up in a love seat, or besides the pool on a much deserved holiday. It will not give you heart palpitations, or demand excess attention, making it a little of a lazy read if you cannot or will not afford the book your full attention. If star ratings allowed, I would probably give the book 3.5 out of 5 stars, but as I cannot I am rounding up to 4 out of 5 stars.

This was my first book by Psak and I enjoyed her writing style! The ending was like a Hallmark movie-ha! Although some things were a bit far fetched in the last quarter of the book, it still sustained my attention.
Rose, Grant (hubs) and son (James) have recently moved to Palm Beach Florida where Rose is eager to get James accustomed to his new private school by hiring a tutor, Isabel. And that’s where the mystery unfolds and the connections start to be formed. Fantastic thriller!

The Tutor was a good read with some exciting twists that I definitely didn’t see coming!

It wasn’t quite as gripping as I like my thrillers to be, it was easy to put down and pick back up later. However, the author did a wonderful job with the plot. Honestly, I kind of got some Hallmark mystery vibes. It was a mix of mild family drama- then you think you have it all figured out- then she throws you for a loop……and then another loop. The last few chapters is where the thrill and mystery really come in. I devoured the ending and enjoyed that it was neatly and nicely wrapped up. No cliffhanger but a HEA of sorts.

The characters were interesting and honestly, it’s hard to dislike any of them, until the end when you really see what is going on. I enjoyed watching their stories unravel.

Though this one was a little slower for me, I really enjoyed it and will recommend it to others. Thank you to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for this advanced reading copy. All opinions are my own!

Great, twisty thriller and a fantastic setting. I’m one of the people who didn’t get the ending of The Sixth Sense, so in a desperate attempt to make up for that, I’m always trying to stay one step ahead, but this twist stumped me.

thoroughly enjoyed this book — I finished it in just two sittings! The story centers around the Caldwell family: Grant, his new wife Rose, her son James, and Grant’s mother, Evelyn. After living in a New York apartment, the family relocates to Palm Beach to be closer to Rose’s mother, who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. They settle into a grand mansion by the beach, and as the story progresses, hidden truths begin to surface.

We’re also introduced to Isabel, a teacher who follows the family to Palm Beach. She becomes close to them and starts tutoring James — but her motives are unclear. Why is she so eager to be part of their lives? What is she hiding? Who is she, really?

The book kept me on my toes right up to the final pages. The twist at the end was completely unexpected and brilliantly done. Just when you think you’ve figured everything out, the story throws you a curveball, and nothing is as it seemed.

I loved the characters, the dreamy beachside setting, and the intriguing plot. It was a captivating read from start to finish.

I’m giving it four stars — only because I still have lingering questions!

You let her in—and that was your first mistake.

The Tutor by Courtney Psak is a domestic thriller that starts with a simple decision: Rose hires a tutor to help her son adjust after their big move to a lavish Florida estate. Isabel is young, smart, and charming—maybe a little too charming. She’s connecting with James, sure, but her interest in Rose’s husband, Grant, raises all kinds of red flags.

What begins as unease quickly spirals into something far darker.

This book delivers. The tension is nonstop, the pacing is razor sharp, and just when you think you’ve figured it out—it flips everything on its head. Every character has a secret, and every chapter tightens the noose.

If you're into thrillers that mess with your mind and keep you guessing right until the final page, this one’s for you. The ending? Completely blindsided me.

Courtney Psak nailed it—and I’ll definitely be reading more from her.

WHAT A DEBUT! 😱 I’ve been looking forward to reading this book since I met Courtney at Hamptons Whodunnit back in April and it did not disappoint!

This book is told in three perspectives and I love a multi-perspective read. From the blurb and the title, I was expecting a more academic thriller, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a much more well rounded family/domestic thriller that kept me guessing the entire time!

I loved the dynamics between the three women in this book - they were all at odds, fighting against each other, and because of that there were pieces of the puzzle you couldn’t put together until the very end.

The twists and turns had my head spinning in the best way and every time I thought I had figured it out? I was wrong!

I can’t wait for Courtney’s next book! 🙌🏻

📚The Tutor
✍🏻Courtney Peak
Blurb:
Rose is a dedicated wife and mother to her husband Grant and her son James. Having recently moved to a grand mansion in Florida, Rose is keen for James to fit in with his new life and hires a tutor.
Isabel is young, smart and beautiful, and not only gets along with James, but she gets results.
But when Isabel starts to get too close for comfort, Rose can't help but think that Isabel is looking for more than just tutoring.

My Thoughts:
The woman in question is The Tutor, Courtney Psak’s first psychological thriller. Isabel, the tutor, has followed Grant’s family from New York City to Palm Beach, where she secures a job at the prep school that his stepson James attends. Even better, she manages to wile her way into a tutoring job for James, gaining access to the mansion run by Grant’s cagey mother, Evelyn.

Rose, James’s mother, isn’t suspicious of Isabel at all. She’s too busy trying to keep Evelyn from ruining her new marriage. Her family had to move from New York to Palm Beach because of Evelyn’s Parkinson’s diagnosis. Now she and Grant are fighting over Rose’s art career, and Rose finds cameras all over their old apartment. Will Evelyn reveal the secret in Rose’s past? Was Rose’s ex-husband’s death really an accident?
The story is told in 3 POV's Isabel, Rose and Evelyn this makes the chapters fly by. I found myself not wanting to put the book down. It was that good.. I would recommend to those who love thrillers.
Thanks NetGalley, ‎ Hodder & Stoughton, Author Courtney Psak for the complimentary ARC. I am leaving my review in appreciation.

I think this book is a great reminder of two things: first, it’s worth expanding your reading tastes, and second, never judge a book by its cover. This isn’t meant as a criticism of the author, but if I saw this in a bookstore, I know I would’ve passed it by—and that would’ve been a real shame, because I genuinely enjoyed getting lost in this story.
The pacing is fast, and despite having multiple POVs, each one feels fully developed. Many authors struggle with making different perspectives sound unique, but Courtney did an excellent job of giving each character their own distinct voice. I also loved how you could dislike a character in someone else’s POV, but then see their side of the story and understand them better.
That said, some parts felt a little rushed, and I expected certain moments to unfold differently. The twists and turns were also a bit too easy to figure out, as the clues were sometimes overly obvious. I understand not wanting a reveal to feel random, but at times it felt like the author was holding up a sign saying, “This is a clue!” As a reader, that took away some of the fun of piecing things together.

This was such a good read, I read it in two sittings. The story follows the Caldwell family, Grant and his new wife Rose, her son James and his mother Evelyn. Living in an apartment in NY, Grant, Rose and James move to Palm Beach to be nearer to his mother who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. They live in a huge mansion by the beach and as the story unfolds, secrets do too. We also meet Isabel, a teacher who has followed them to Palm beach and who befriends the family and starts tutoring James. But why does she want to be so close to the family? What secrets is she hiding? Who is she really?

This book kept me guessing to the very end. The twist at the end took me totally by surprise and it was soo good. Everything you thought you had sorted in your mind, the hints and tips from others in the book led you to believe one thing and no, not what you expect at all.

I loved the characters, the settings sound idealistic and dream worthy and the plot was really good.

Four stars because I still have questions!!

Gripping, quick, and full of twists, this one kept me on my toes. I was shocked at the ending, and genuinely did not expect it. It was a really big turn of events.

With three POVs, the story gradually comes together. You meet Evelyn, the mother-in-law; Rose, the daughter-in-law; and Isabel, the teacher and tutor. All with their own concerns. All with secrets. And all not fully trustworthy.

This is one where I did not like the characters…at first. My mind changed so many times about them. And now, having finished it, I don’t know what to think. I was set on my first impressions, and this whole novel twisted my thoughts in so many different ways. Now, I’m scrambling to figure out what to think. 😂

Really, this was a fantastic, twisty novel. And a great reminder that when reading…first impressions may not always be accurate.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, received from Kaye Publicity and Courtney Psak. However, all thoughts and views reflected are strictly my own opinions.

The Tutor is a quiet, unsettling novel in the best way. Courtney Psak doesn’t rely on big twists or shock value. Instead, the tension builds slowly, through small moments, blurred boundaries, and things left unsaid. You feel the discomfort creeping in before you can fully name it.

What really stayed with me was how psychologically sharp the book is. Psak captures how easy it is for people to justify their choices, especially when power and vulnerability are involved. The writing is clean and controlled, and it trusts the reader to sit with the ambiguity rather than spelling everything out.

This isn’t a fast or flashy read, but it lingers. I found myself thinking about it long after I finished. If you like literary fiction that’s subtle, thoughtful, and a little haunting, this one is worth your time.

If I could give more than 5 Stars I would!! Talk about a game of cat and mouse! Rose has hired a tutor for her son James. Isabel is your typical sexy, brilliant, flirtatious tutor who seems to be taking an inappropriate liking to Rose's husband, Grant. What does she want? Is she want to be Rose? Does she want her family for her own?

I loved everything about this book. I could not put it down! Twists, turns and everything I would want in a thriller. This book was a quick read and page turner. Add this one to your collection asap! You WILL NOT be disappointed!

This was a good read about Rose and her son James who are moving with her new husband to live in a mansion in Florida with his mother who is very sick. Although Rose has only been married a short time to Grant after her first husband died she feels she finally has a man in her life who loves her and with look after her and James only problem is his mother hates her and wants her out of Greg’s life no matter what it costs. As secrets and lies swirl around the old halls of the mansion Rose starts to worry that maybe a few secrets of her own may spill out and what is it that her mother in law is hiding. A great page turned. I can see this as a channel 5 drama in the future.

The Tutor is a super twisty psychological domestic thriller that will have you staying up late into the wee hours just to find out what happens next. Everyone has a secret and no one is quite who you think they are. The thing that impressed me most was that the twists were character-driven more than plot-driven. Courtney Psak did a masterful job of creating characters that become more layered and complex the more you get to know them. You care what happens to them, thus driving the action and the plot. Check out The Tutor--but prep some extra coffee for the morning because you'll be up late being drawn into the alternate reality of the dangerous ultra wealthy in Palm Beach.

Be cautious about who you invite into your home - that is the lesson The Tutor will teach you! Rose and her family must move to wealthy Palm Beach, FL, when her mother-in-law becomes ill. Rose quickly discovers some mysterious things about her in-laws and soon finds herself caught in a dangerous game.

Courtney Psak writes an engaging thriller. Each character has secrets, some potentially sinister. Filled with misdirections and twists, readers will stay on the edge of their seats until the very end!

This was a really good psychological thriller. I thought I had it all figured out but then came the twist. I love a story told from multiple points of view and this one had three - the tutor, the wife and the mother-in-law. Each one had layers of secrets that were slow to unravel until the end. I really enjoyed the friendship between Isabel and James and thought it brought warmth to the story. Overall this kept me turning the pages and I finished it in 24 hours. I’ll definitely look for more from this author.

This is an amazing read and I truly loved every twist and turn that was thrown my way. It's the kind of psychological thriller I love: about a family where you suspect not everyone has the best of intentions and behind their rich, respectable veneers lurk murky secrets and possible betrayals. This is a really exceptional debut and I'm so excited to see what Courtney Psak writes next - a solid five star read.

This book was just an okay read for me. The ending was nothing like I expected, which was a nice surprise, but I found the final explanation a bit confusing. When everything was finally revealed, it became a bit hard to follow. Overall, it had potential, but the execution, especially toward the end fell a little short for me.
