This novel is just a little more than 200 pages so you can read it in one sitting, but girl, it's articulate. The plot itself is very straightforward: Li Shu and Shen Yiyou is breaking up on the very first chapter, and the novel basically follows them as they slowly navigate their way back toward each other. But despite how cliche and uncomplicated the premise sounds, the emotional execution really hits the spot. Well for starters, the backgrounds are a bit of a rush, and I didn't care much for the other happenings and side characters but Ka Bi Qiu writes the longing, miscommunication, tenderness, and emotional exhaustion here with care that every interaction between them is so simply enjoyable.

I like that there really wasn't a "bad person" in the relationship of Li Shu and Shen Yiyou. The problem is that they struggle to communicate and understand each other properly despite loving each other so much. I think the synopsis is really such a fitting way to encapsulate this novel. The entire story feels like watching two lonely people slowly invent a language only the two of them can speak. And the novel is incredibly fair to both of them. I found myself resonating with both perspectives constantly. Shen Yiyou's loneliness, sensitivity, and exhaustion felt understandable, but so did Li Shu's confusion and desperation. The more the novel progressed, the more heartbreaking Li Shu became to me because you slowly realize how sincere he actually is beneath his coldness and rigidity. Honestly, I really felt like Li Shu was coded to be on the spectrum, and Shen Yiyou seemed quietly aware of it too, which made their dynamic even more poignant. Li Shu approaches love almost like a system that needs to be learned and optimized (really pinched my heart when he was trying so hard to read a book about emotions just to understand Shen Yiyou better, so he can be better), while Shen Yiyou approaches it emotionally and instinctively, so they keep missing each other despite desperately wanting the same thing.

There's this constant feeling of yearning running underneath the entire novel which I really like. So many lines genuinely stunned me with how intimate and emotionally revealing they were. The writing is so sincere. And the ending is so cute and full of love, I'm so happy for them! This story isn't perfect, but it's also a very charming read.

No ha estado mal, igual demasiado dramática para mi gusto.
Es una novela que olvidaré en breve y no creo que vuelva a leer.

I don’t know what is up with the low ratings. I just read this and I found it really sweet. The story was actually better than I expected. Li Shu reminds me of Limited Possession’s Tu Yan. Except he is much more mature in thinking and doesn’t lash out in a childish way. The story plot revolves only at their relationship and nothing else. Other story aspects were just lightly mentioned. The focus was between the ml and mc’s feelings, misunderstandings and realizations. I got so emotionally invested in the couple to the point that I can feel both of their pain, sadness, disappointments and frustration; as well as their happiness and reliefs. It was quite a short read and honestly, I wanted more. I was shocked to suddenly find out I was already at the last chapter. Totally recommend this for those looking for a quick read.

Pasti layak dibaca.

read this on a whim because it's short.

no plot, no character-depth, the angst is fine, but also too rushed.

honestly the story itself doesn't worth this much of my time...

my original rating is 1.5 honestly but i feel bad about it.

the maturity and their communication is good though.

This author has become my favorite. They have ways with describing and comparing loves. I love that the leads are both flawed but yet for each other they are just fit like no other would.
