Falling for Famous #4

Star-Crossed Darcy: A Novella

Rate this book
All’s fair in love, war, & (steamy) bookshop shenanigans in this celebrity romance novella.

Jane Romano never imagined she’d become a best-selling author by writing about Darcy and Elizabeth getting down and dirty. But her fan-fiction of a Pride and Prejudice television remake turned into a global sensation.

The problem? Jane has a new book tour, and she still has nightmares from the last one. All because of Finn Lyons, the Hollywood heartthrob who plays Darcy in the show that was her writing inspiration. She was a fangirl before he humiliated her in an interview gone viral.

So when her crush-turned-nemesis shows up at her book signing, she doesn’t think it can get worse. Until they get stuck together in a bookstore stockroom. Finn and Jane go from sparring to secret confessions—to intimacy of an entirely different kind. And soon he’s the one obsessed.

This Austen-inspired novella is the fourth standalone story in the Falling for Famous series.

4-⭐

This was a beautiful novella.
I loved the concept of a late night version of Jane Austen (I would genuinely read that kind of fanfiction) and the author/actor combination for the MCs 💕
I really loved our modern day -not- Mr. Darcy and his proactiveness (is that even an English word?) in pursuing and wooing Jane.
I liked the fact that Jane was such a headstrong character. And the fact that both MCs were ultimately sweet as two teddy bears.
The steamy scenes were a nice touch but I admit they didn't make me sweat. But maybe it was just my mind being other places today...

Anyway I'll definitely check the whole series by the author at the beginning of 2025.
I liked her style.
And (good)steamy novellas are like the episodes of a good sitcom. You have never enough ✨

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for sending me the arc for this novella!

I've never read anything from the author so I don't know what happens in the first 3 installments of "Falling for Famous", but this seemed too fun to pass out which means for once I'm going to read it backwards 😂

This little novella was gorgeous and i highly recommend it if you are a fan of pride and prejudice by Jane Austen. I really really enjoyed this novella and was kicking my feet and giggling so much at it. Jane was such a sweet heart who knew how to stand up for herself as much as she could while also making sure to be mindful of others feelings sometimes. I loved the grudge Jane had of our handsome Finn. He was honestly hilarious with the way he talked to Jane and his funny little qwips. I loved the writing style in this book as well and i am excited to read more from this author in the future.

Okay, this was a perfect little novella that had me giggling and kicking my feet! Was it a realistic timeframe or circumstances for how the main characters met, fell in love or how it all worked out? Not even a little bit and it was all the better for it! When your FMC (Jane) is a fanfic writer turned traditionally published author, the cornier and more fanfic-like her relationship with the hunky Darcy actor, the better! And what a hunky, golden retriever he was. I fell in love with the MMC straight away and loved what a goner he was for Jane. A cad he may be, but like our girly said… sometimes that’s just more fun!

Thank you to Sarah and NetGalley for allowing me to read the ARC copy!

When he unwittingly makes her a laughingstock, it’s going to take more than a Hollywood smile to soothe her grudge. I spotted this sweet-looking romantic comedy novella by new to me author Sarah Deeham about a Jane Austen fan fiction writer and a charming famous actor who was once her muse for Mr. Darcy and I couldn’t pass it up.

Star-Crossed Darcy is the fourth of the Falling for Famous series of standalone romance. I hadn’t read the previous ones, but I had no trouble jumping into this one.

Jane wrote a fan fic based on a TV adaption of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and it unexpectedly took off. The actor, Finn Lyons who played the Darcy role made some unfortunate remarks about it and she became the face of memes. So, it’s unfortunate that she encounters him at the bookshop for her book tour stop.

Finn regrets what happened and finds Jane can and does hold a grudge. He’s got his work cut out for him if he wants the gal to feel for him what he does for her. With the help of a forced proximity situation when trapped in an elevator, a chance to air their perceptions of the past, and a chemistry that isn’t scripted or from a book plot, Jane and Finn get a do over- a steamy, sweet do over.

From what I understand, this edition is expanded from the original and the fun knit-a-thon, limo, and epilogue scenes were not present in that one. And, I have to say I’m so glad I got to read it with the extensions because the knit-a-thon was a favorite.
I’m a bonafide JAFF (Jane Austen Fan Fiction) reader so I was tickled to read a quick romance featuring a JAFF writer and an Austen TV movie actor. What a combo! And, there were some good Pride & Prejudice winks at the original in there though this is for anyone and not just Austen lovers.
This was a fast read, but it was well developed for the individual characters, their romance, and overall story plot. I was sympathetic to Jane’s situation from the start, appreciating how vulnerable she felt after the shot at her writing and public opinion. I was glad Finn was bent on righting the wrong he did her- he was a sweetie and I felt my heart tug right along with Jane’s when he addressed what he said and told her of his past.

All in all, I was left satisfied with this heartwarmer that had some spicy moments. This was sweetheart of a Celebrity Romance and I enjoyed Sarah Deeham’s writing so I want to read the other novellas in this Falling for Famous series. Definitely recommend to RomCom and Contemporary Romance fans.

I rec'd an eARC via NetGalley to read in exchange for an honest review.

What a fun story. Jane and Finn had fun banter and serious heat between each other.
I have read the shorter version of this novella before and I really enjoyed this longer version. The stage was even more set and all characters got to shine.

Excited for more books in this series!

I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.

i really wanted to love this but, i didn't. i think it was perhaps the shortness of it, and that the story needed to be fleshed out a bit more with angst and i think it would've suited a slow burn more, it just felt a bit. lacking.

i don't think this type of trope is really for me either, but i tried it and know where i stand with it now.

it wasn't bad writing, just perhaps needed more than was provided, as there's practically zero development between jane and finn, plus i didn't really like finn that much anyway, i liked jane enough though.

Thank you Sunshine & Storypress for a copy of this. A super cute cozy and spicy novella about an author falling in love with the lead of the show she writes fanfiction about. I would not mind if this book was a full-fledged novel. I love the Sarah Deeham's writing and how she managed to make a novella feel fully fleshed out without rushing anything. I definitely want to read the rest of the series now.

Finn and Jane are so cutee. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this but it was a really good fast paced novella. This book gave really cute, cozy vibes. The enemies to lovers trope isn’t something I often read so this was really interesting. Finn is so nice and proved himself to Jane that he’s worthy of her love. the spicy is also top notch in this.

This series is so adorably cute. This novella I think is my favorite of them all so far only because P&P is my favorite and Darcy is for sure my ultimate book boyfriend.

Jane had been harboring some serious love to hatred for Finn (with good reason) and I'm such a sucker for a good enemies to lovers story (even if Finn doesn't realize they're enemies haha).

It was steamy and romantic and funny. I don't think I've ever met a man who's put in 1/16 the effort that Finn puts in--a knitathon???--(and he's a movie star!) haha.

Thank you, Greys Promotion and Sarah Deeham for the ARC.

Jane has been the target of so many insulting jokes and memes ever since her muse for her first best selling Darcy fanfic claimed she was obsessed with him. Now she's on another book signing tour, and is dreading it. Especially since her friend at the bookstore tells her that her nemesis is showing up at the signing. But it's when the two of them get stuck in the bookstore's supply room, that things between them really heat up. Now Finn's looking like some serious competition for her crush on the fictional Mr. Darcy, because his moves are even more swoony than Darcy's, and he seems to be serious about redeeming himself by setting the story straight.

Finn's at a crossroads in his life when he meets a woman who seems to despise him. It's unusual because women tend to throw themselves at him rather than glare and grumble like this beauty is. When she tells him who she is and what his careless words have done to her life, he becomes even more drawn to her and is determined to fix what he broke. While stuck in the supply room with her, baring his soul to her, and giving in to their explosive chemistry - it's all gotten to him. Now he has to go on a redemption tour and hope when he's done, Jane forgives him and wants to be with him as much as he wants to be with her, even if he isn't going to be playing her favorite crush, Darcy, anymore.

Whew, this is hot! From their first, very spicy encounter, all their texts, they fell headlong into love and lust and ended on a sweet, sweet note.

Overall: 7.5/10 – 4 ⭐
🔥 Spice Level: 3/5 – Sweet with a kick!
🥹 Emotional Engagement: 3/5 – Cozy feels!

What if your celebrity crush turned out to be nothing like his on-screen persona…but so much better?
This sweet, funny, hot novella stole my heart with its enemies-to-lovers charm and endless Pride and Prejudice/Darcy banter. 😍 Honestly, it's like writing fanfiction of a fanfiction – and I'm not mad about it!
Thank you, author and Grey's Promotion, for this ARC opportunity!

Tropes:
Enemies to lovers
Forced proximity
Celebrity crush/movie star
Sassy banter

With a nod to Pride and Prejudice, the story has the classic enemies-to-lovers setup where our heroine meets her cocky former celebrity crush, now turned enemy, only to discover all is not as she thought.

The characters had surprising depth for such a short read. The celebrity hero was so much more than his initial arrogance, and his slow transformation into someone vulnerable, genuine, and lovable was beautifully done. The heroine’s journey mirrored his as she learned to abandon unrealistic fantasies and embrace real, messy love. We’re treated to a heartfelt exploration of what it means to see beyond the surface and love someone for who they truly are.

The cosy settings (a bookstore and a knitting competition—yes, really!) added so much charm, and the witty banter between the leads had me grinning the whole way through. While its plot and logic were pure fantasy, why not? The emotional beats and chemistry, on the other hand, carried the story perfectly.

This one is perfect if you’re looking for a short, sweet, and swoon-worthy escape. It’s like wrapping yourself in a cozy blanket of witty banter, warm romance, and charmingly flawed characters.

When a best-selling author of Pride and Prejudice-inspired fan fiction collides with the dashing Hollywood heartthrob playing Mr. Darcy on screen, you know you’re in for some serious sparks—and Star-Crossed Darcy absolutely delivers.

This novella is a delightful enemies-to-lovers story that blends humor, angst, and some seriously steamy moments (don’t let the cover fool you—it’s definitely 🌶️🌶️🌶️). Jane Romano is an endearing protagonist—fierce, resilient, and relatable in her vulnerability. Her grudge against Finn Lyons, the man who humiliated her in a viral interview, is understandable and sets the stage for some deliciously tense and witty banter.

Finn surprised me. At first, he’s charmingly insufferable, but once the walls come down, his sincere apology and emotional openness shine through. Watching him work to earn Jane’s forgiveness made the romance feel genuine despite its fast pace. Their chemistry? Off the charts! From their initial sparks in a bookstore stockroom to their modern-day “courtship” over texts, it’s impossible not to root for them.

I also appreciated the nods to Pride and Prejudice, especially in Jane’s sharp comebacks and Finn’s transformation from aloof heartthrob to someone utterly smitten. The epilogue tied everything together beautifully, leaving me with a big smile on my face.

While I loved the story overall, I felt some parts could have been expanded to let the relationship simmer a bit more before jumping into the spicy territory. But hey, this novella knows what it is—fun, fast-paced, and perfect for Austen fans who don’t mind a little heat with their romance.

If you’re looking for a quick, heartwarming read with some steamy twists and a sprinkle of literary charm, Star-Crossed Darcy is the perfect choice!

(I received an ARC for this book)

For fans of easy to devour novellas, Jane Austen, and celebrity romances, this is necessary to have on your tbr! Jane is swept up in the whirlwind of a book tour for her debut, when Finn’s comments to the media about her ‘inspiration’ crushes her. Fast forward to book tour number two, and now they’re forced to deal with the situation. Locked doors are good for two things: keeping people out, and keeping people in. On the surface, Finn could be compared to Darcy, but fortunately for Jane and I, he is so much more than surface level. I loved their steady and easy growth to becoming more than just untouchable. They give each other the ability to breathe fresh air. They share real conversation, real emotions, real understanding. They change each other’s lives in all the best ways.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “Is it so bad to be stuck in here for a little while?” “It is so bad. Because I’m stuck in here with you.”
• “I love any dress that gives me easy access to you.”
• “Her smile turns me inside out.”
• “She just gets me. And I get her.”
• “Have I told you that you’re sexy when you do math?”
• “I want to wake up with you in my arms and do it all again.”
• “I’ve made myself come more times than I can count, remembering what you tasted like.”
• “I didn’t think I’d ever get this. That someone would love me like you do.”

Love Enemies to Lovers? Love Jane Austen? Then this Jane Austen inspired novella is sure to have you hooked.

“You’re sure? Because heaven knows I want this. Hell knows it, too.”

- Forced Proximity
- Enemies to Lovers
- Celebrity Romance
- Golden Retriever MMC
- Sassy Banter
- Dual POV

This Jane Austen inspired novella is sure to have you hooked.

Jane Romano became a best-selling author after releasing her first book, inspired by a television remake of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Her true inspiration? Hollywood heartthrob, Finn Lyons, who plays Darcy in her favorite show. After living with the humiliation of Finn’s viral interview for the past year, Jane is anything but ready to take on her second book tour. When the man responsible for painting her as an obsessive fan girl walks through the doors at her book signing, Jane can’t imagine things getting any worse.

This slow-burn, yet quick paced, steamy novella is heartfelt and is certain to have you giggling. Deeham does an excellent job portraying the depth of the characters, even though this is a short novella. Finn Lyons transforms from his initial cocky celebrity persona to a genuine, lovable character. Jane Romano is relatable in her vulnerability, while also showing off her wit and resilience. Having the story take place in an intimate, cozy bookstore sets the mood perfectly.

Absolutely devoured this novella in one sitting!

This might be my favourite of the Falling for Famous Series.
This is for the fans of Pride and Prejudice. I don't usually give such high rating with little spice but for a short Novella the spice was fitting but slow burn was long haha.
Jane was sassy, strong willed and funny.
Jane started her love for Jane Austens era books when she was young. Which led her to be an author. Also fantasising about Darcy on a spin off, until he ruined her life.
Finn is the said Darcy on this spin off.
He is down to earth, caring, passionate and genuine. So how did he hurt her you say? You will have to read and find out..
By chance they are both stuck in a stock room and Finn is attracted and intrigued by her. She is giving him death stares and not happy.
Let's just say Finn's honestly won and things got rather heated in that stock room 🥵.
But Finn lives in LA and she lives in San Francisco. He had to leave and she didn't think he would want her, ordinary, curvy Jane.
I loved what Finn did to rectify his past mistake and how he charmed his way into our heart and Jane's haha.
Can they really make this work? They both have lots of hurdles to jump but is so worth it. That scene in the limo was the best and so worth the wait.
This was heartwarming enemies to lovers romance. Perfect for quick reading and for leaving you smiling.

Oh dear, for a novella, I liked this one more than I thought I would. Jane was traumatized by hot shot-playboy Finn, from his damming interview that damaged her reputation. Unexpectedly, the two were stuck in the stock room and fireworks (the verbal and non-verbal kind) ensues. And he works hard to earn her attention and trust. He likes the fact that she doesn't want him for his fame or fortune and dish whatever it is to ground him, made him feel challenged. Though Jane is fully under the protection of her mom, I'm also glad that she stood up to her, and remind her that Jane is not a little kid anymore, even though the mom's experience with men was poor and tough. Finn's family gives no mercy either, they knew he's can be a jerk, but also know that he's heads over hill for her. He does whatever he can to continue to be considerate and earn her love. She realized this is the 'real deal' and there's no turning back, if this doesn't work out, it will end badly. But after much going back and forth, she was finally willing to take the leap. And I'm so glad they both got vulnerable and move forward. P.s. there's a few steamy scenes even though this is a hundred pages or so. Definitely worth the read!

Thanks to NetGalley and Sunshine & Story Press for the ARC, it was a very fun and enjoyable read. I wanted to lear more about the author and her other books.

If you’re a fan of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, you’ll definitely love Star-Crossed Darcy! The romance between Jane, a best-selling author of Pride and Prejudice retelling series, and Finn, the actor who plays Darcy in the show that Jane was inspired by, is very fast-paced and spicy! The cover is deceiving, I might add. It seems like a closed-door romance, but the spice is 🌶️🌶️🌶️!

Deeham really captured the grudge that Jane felt towards Finn’s interviews prior to their official meeting face to face, and the way Finn was sincerely sorry for what happened and was willing to make up for it that Jane’s forgiveness, although she was quite fast in granting Finn forgiveness, felt natural given their situation.

Star-Crossed Darcy was a short and sweet romantic read, perfect for Austen fans!

When Jane Austen devotee Jane Romano’s fan fiction of Darcy, a Pride and Prejudice remake led to a book deal, she thought her dreams of becoming an author had come true only for her life to turn into a nightmare when Darcy himself, Finn Lyons humiliated her and left her the butt of several memes when he accused her of being his stalker, so when she met Finn a year later, in a dressing down worthy of Elizabeth Bennett herself she let him have it with both barrels..

A sweet and spicy novella for all fans of Mr Darcy especially in his Colin Firth regeneration. Jane and Finn’s story was fast paced with a fantastic flow to the writing. The hero and heroine were well rounded and likeable with sizzling chemistry. Jane was so proper and indignant in her rage while Finn struggled to hide his amusement but as soon as he realised the impact his careless words had had on Jane’s life, he was quick to apologise and ended up opening up and spilling his heart to her. Despite the speed of their first encounter, things then slowed, and I loved how their relationship developed via texting like an old-fashioned courtship brought into the twenty first century. With a touching epilogue their story had me smiling throughout my read.

Fluffy feel-good novella

The standalone novella attached to the Falling for Famous Series is very enjoyable, light and sexy.

Jane is an author of spicy romance books who reached fame through her fanfiction of a successful TV adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. Finn is the show's lead actor and, according to an interview, despises Jane's writing and thinks she's obsessed with him, which turns her career on its head and makes her dread any public appearances. Also, what is this writer's block she's experiencing?! When they meet in Jane's favourite book café, thing come to a head..

I really enjoyed this book. There is no real crisis, no bottom dark pit of despair, but the chemistry between Jane and Finn is amazing! They have a lot of banter and I think without prolonged negative stretches this novella is a perfect cosy, sweet and spicy read. The stakes are low but you really, really don't mind.
There is some spice and a cameo - plus some very fun texting.
The only thing I genuinely don't get or agree with is the title, but hey ho.

Great for fans of Bridgerton, Jane Austen and fluffy romance!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Anything that has anything to do with Jane Austen or Pride and Prejudice- I will read. The main character is Jane. She's an author who writes Jane Austen fan fic. Though her first book was a success, something very unfortunate is said, and a horribly embarrassing meme was created while on Jane's previous book tour. Now she's rolling on to book tour two, and she's learned that *THE man, *THE Darcy, who caused the unfortunate meme previously is about to be in the same room with her.
Celebrity, Finn Lyons was her favorite Mr Darcy at one point. He stars in the Quill, which is a pride and prejudice fan fic show.

This cute novella romcom is the perfect fun read. This story somehow pulled me in with its beautiful writing and descriptions from start to finish. It's hilarious, the main character is relatable, it's enemies to lovers, and I love that it's Jane Austen. Also, for a novella this little thing is packed with spice.

There's also a fictional bookshop I guarantee every reader will wish to visit. 💘

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me this opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.

---

I liked this little story. Jane is a romance writer and her book is inspired by her favorite show where Finn is the main character, he says some bad things about her and after a year they finally meet and well let's say that sparks fly. The chemistry between the two was very good, for a short novel I felt it was complete because they gave me everything, and that's something I like about the way this author writes, she always brings us good and fun stories.

📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.

A cute, quick, sexy read!

I loved the concept of this novella, Jane is a Jane Austen fan and has written a series of books based on a TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, which is also inspired by Darcy played by Finn - our MMC - but after her first book takes off, Finn makes some *rude* comments about Jane personally, how she’s obsessed with him, practically stalking him…

A year later, Jane’s second instalment is just out and she’s ready to do a meet and greet at her local bookstore, and who should waltz in…. You guessed it! Finn!!

The pair get locked in a stockroom (spicy!) and hash things out, turns out Finn was drunk during the interview and made some stupid choices. Once they’ve cleared the air, Finn attends Jane’s reading and makes amends, and the relationship begins!

I loved the knit-a-thon, any love interest who commits 12 hours to learn how to knit just to spend time with his crush… he’s a keeper!

This book is perfect for fans of a Darcy hand twitch, with a side of spice!

Star-Crossed Darcy is the first novella I’ve by Sarah Deeham.

Jana and Finn’s relationship does not start out well. Jane was a huge fan of Finn’s prior to him humiliating her during an interview. Now despising him, it is a great surprise for her when he shows up to her book signing. She doesn’t think it can get any worse until they’re both locked in a bookstore storeroom. However, while in the storeroom, Jane and Finn realize just how wrong they were about the other person and things escalate very quickly.

This book is full of lots of humour and passion. I really liked how Sarah Deeham explained more about the characters backstory and why they are the way that they are. I also thought that Jane and Finn’s relationship with one another was very sweet. They both showed how much they care about one another despite their crazy work schedules. It just goes to show that if two people want to be together then they will make it work.

Thank you so much NetGalley, Sunshine & Story Press and Sarah Deeham for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!

I was excited to dive into this latest add-on after reading all the books in this series. While I enjoyed the story, I couldn't help but feel it was shorter and more rushed than the others. The pacing felt quicker, with some plot developments happening in quick jumps, leaving less room for the usual buildup and depth I loved in the previous books.

That being said, it was still a delightful read. The characters were as engaging as ever, and the story was enjoyable enough to make it to the end quickly.

It's a fast-paced, easy read that makes for a nice addition to the series, even if it doesn't quite reach the same level of depth as the earlier books. If you're a fan of the series, this one is worth picking up, but it might not be the standout of the bunch.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
