I made the mistake of starting this book the evening I received it and ended up reading it right through the night! The next day in the office it was challenging to keep my eyes open, but totally worth it. I enjoy psychological thrillers and dark romance and felt that this book was good balance of both! Before indulging make sure to check the trigger warnings, because this book does touch on some very dark subjects.
I'm a sucker for any book with a curvy woman! It makes the story seem much more relatable. Charlie and Nix have amazing chemistry! Just when I thought I knew what was coming, DV went and tossed in another plot twist! The book kept me invested in their story until the very last word.
This is a definite must read.

First things first, this book covers so dark topics, so be sure and check the content warnings first. If you someone who thinks of a TW list a menu…you will probably enjoy this book!
Charlie is fresh out of the police academy and dealing with the fall out from her father’s actions as a cop. She definitely struggles with self confidence and is trying to prove that she deserves to be there. She goes undercover to help bring down a trafficking ring but ends up in way deeper than she ever expected.
Nix is brooding and protective and can’t explain why Charlie has gotten under his skin. He runs the 🌽 side of the criminal operation and finds himself trying to protect her from the darkest sides of the business.
Charlie and Nix are so hot together!!! They have amazing chemistry and their uh…films…are scorching hot!
This story had some secrets and one twist in particular I never saw coming! It was a jaw dropper!! I really liked the sense of tension and suspense as Charlie was under cover. Even though Nix was far from innocent I was rooting for them!

I flew through this, very easy to read! I just wish it was a longer storyline I feel there was missed opportunities for further complex character development and backstory. But overall loved the connection between our two MC’s.

The plot is very good! but the characters didn't captivate me. I didn't feel the Insta-love, i wish there was more interactions between them that would result into Love, i mean atleast one sleepover 😅 I also expected the ending , somewhat predictable.

Charlie is a rookie cop and her partner Miles is her dad's old partner. But Charlie has something to prove cause her dad's reputation when he was an officer, so she decides to go undercover to get the human trafficking people caught from the inside. Feenix "Nix" is the porn guy of the trafficking and Andre is the darker side, and Charlie is gonna get in too deep and fall for Nix. Nix and Andre are the highest ranks besides their boss. This book is so good with so many twists, and just when I think I know what is gonna happen, bam, another twist. This is a darker book than DV normally writes, and I'm here for it. I absolutely loved Charlie and Nix chemistry and story. This is a must-read 4sure.

I absolutely loved this book! Charlie and Nix just have amazing chemistry together!

Another solid 4 star book!
This one is darker than the previous books. I love dark so the darker the better. Please read your trigger warnings.
Undercover cop meets, well another undercover but they got lost in the job and are now on the bad side or are they? There’s a little bit of back and forth but ultimately they fall quickly for each other.
Definitely a lot going on but written correctly so it’s nice and easy to read.

ARC reader here - this is my favorite book of DV’s thus far! It kept me intrigued, wondering what was going to happen next. Excellent twists, steamy spice, and solid plot. I wish I could read it for the first time again!
Nix is…oh boy. Hot. Sinful. Dark. I’d like to meet him one day.
Charlie - I LOVE IT when I feel represented, as a plus size woman, who gets the man and then some! Her innocence doesn’t come across as whiny, in face my favorite line in the whole book is when she grumbles “I’m just a girl…” SAME. hahaha! She’s a strong, determined woman with a heart of gold.
Dare I say there may be an opening for a second book? PLEASE??

Rookie cop, Charlie Mitchell, decides to go undercover in the porn industry to prove to her superiors she has what it takes to succeed in this gritty city. However, when she meets Nix, the man responsible for molding her into the next underground adult film star, she realizes she may have bit off more than she can chew. Because while she understands the assignment, seasoned star and underground ring-leader Nix isn't a fool, and everyone in this dark, lucrative business is hiding more than a few secrets.
And everyone knows: Secrets kill. ☠️
Of course, there's enough spice in here to satiate any smut-tastic reader. 🌶️ However, you come for the spice but stay for the plot, the characters, the drama, the tension, the angst! I often found myself metaphorically pinning sticky notes to an imaginary wall and connecting them with red string, much like Charlie does as she begins to piece things together, the hallmark of a good detective story. 🔎
I was so happy to see Charlie turning into a seasoned detective, a strong FMC 💪, using not just skills learned in the academy but also her own experiences and instincts to unravel the web of lies and deceit that seemed to plague the risky business she must partake in. (Don't let her rookie status and plus-sized sexy frame fool you- The girl is a force of nature!)
I was emotionally moved with Nix, the man with all the secrets. He's a broody, silent MMC with a tragic backstory akin to that of Malachi Vize in Little Stranger and Gracin in Toxic. If anyone deserves happiness, it is him! 💔 Beneath that rough exterior is a fierce protectiveness, for every woman in his past, present, and possibly his future.
The plot is well-developed and each character arc is hinted at, but never fully divulged until the reader finally gets to that all-encompassing plot twist and says, "OMFG! WTF?!?!?!" 🫨 (When I say I was bouncing up and down in my kitchen, that is not an exaggeration. I truly was.) All plot points are wrapped-up in a well-deserved HEA at the end 💕, making this a standalone novel you will undoubtedly binge-read.
It was an honor and a privilege to ARC read this novel for the author and the GoodReads and BookTok communities. You can be sure I will now be watching and waiting silently in the shadows for any new work the author puts out there. 👀

This book is dark so make sure to check the trigger warnings. Charlie is just out of the police academy and living under the shadow of her father. Dealing with the fallout from her father's actions as a cop, Charlie struggles to find her place in the force and prove her worth. She goes undercover in a trafficking ring to try to bring it down but she ends up in deeper than she could ever imagine. Feenix Blaylock runs the XXX side of the operation Charlie has infiltrated. Broody Nix cannot figure out why Charlie has gotten under his skin. He finds he wants to protect her from the shady and more disturbing parts of their organization. Can Charlie overcome her feelings of low self-confidence and worth and bring down her target? Or will she even come out of this with her heart unscathed?

Holy freaking crap this book!!! Once you start it, you can’t put it down because it hooks you in. The twists and turns, I was NOT prepared. And the ending, mind freaking blown. This book will leave you thinking, what the heck did I just read.

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest opinion.
When I saw the author looking for ARC readers for this book and saying how dark it was. She was saying her editor said people won’t be able to handle the content…I was INVESTED. I absolutely LOVE dark romance. Gimme the dark romance!! Give it to me. Give it all to me NOW! However, I will have to say IMO, and this is my review which is my opinion, this is not a dark romance. This book has very dark themes and a great anti-hero but not dark romance. The themes of trafficking and necrophilia are dark for sure, but we don’t actually see that stuff so IMO, it’s a running dark theme in the book. If the characters had been involved in that stuff, then YES dark romance. My rating for this book is based off this being presented as a dark romance.
Ok so that is my take on the genre this book is being placed in. Now for the book itself, as a romance reader, we do put aside a lot because we are reading for enjoyment. Charlotte is sad her estranged husband has died leaving her penniless. She is working and is allowed to go undercover to bust a trafficking/porno ring. When she is there, she meets Nix who is stunned by the curvy woman of his dreams. He tries to push her away and not draw attention to his attraction to her or his “bosses” could use that as a weakness. They fumble through trying to figure out several things (who is the main boss and who killed Nix’s family member) when it all comes to a head at the end of the book.
I did have a few issues with a rookie cop sitting behind the desk being allowed to be thrown in to a pornography undercover ring. But ok no worries. I also had issues with the fact that Charlotte/Charlie knows how dangerous Andre (Nix’s partner) is and is still ignoring Nix at every damn turn. Like ma’am do you want to be unalived??
Was the book enjoyable? Sure. I did like a few of the twists she had in place. One I kinda picked up on and the other was a bombshell.
The heat and spice were at a nice level. Nix is a great anti-hero. I mean are you supposed to fall in love with a guy who runs a porno ring??? I think not and yet you do.

Okay firstly dang. Secondly. Reading the trigger warnings carefully if you read this.
I loved this book. I was on edge the entire time. It was go go go from the start. I immediately loved nix and just knew there was something more to him. Charlie too.
I think I held my breath through 99% of this book and when I tell you I DID NOT SEE THE TWIST COMING. Normally I can guess them, not this time. Damn. Just damn.
Well done to the author. I’m using this as my moment of fame with @dvfischerauthor choosing my surname for a character and I’m 100% going to tell everyone I meet to read this. How many people can say their name directly impacted a character? Best moment of my life. Haha. 👀

"For all the girlies who live in the light but play in the shadows."
I couldnt put in down as i was instantly hooked from the beginning .. This has both genres i love psychological thrillers and dark romance, this book as the perfect balance of both and just love it ! I love Charlie and Nix as their chemisty was just amaziing !! Cant forget DV on how she just tossed in a plot twist that you wont see coming .

WOW, this book had me guessing each step of the way, I didn't see half of it coming. I enjoyed this book, it had me hooked from the start, I LOVED Charlie. D. V. Fisher never disappoints with her curvy girl romance!

Well DV wasn’t kidding when she said this would be darker than her editor thought we could stomach. This was incredibly special to read this out of her comfort zone style book. So dark. The plot twist, the spice, and the characters really made this a wild ride!

First, I’d like to thank DV Fischer for letting me be a part of the ARC team for the booo. It’s my first book by her and I can confidently say I will read more. Her writing style is great, very descriptive - really good at setting the scene. I felt like I was in the book. I really enjoyed the main characters in this, the sexual tension between them was palpable on the page. I also really appreciated that while the FMC is plus size, she had confidence - and the instance where is slips, the MMC quickly helps her right her confidence again. The instance possessive nature that Nix showed and Charlie’s immediate loyalty to him was fascinating. The entire story line was gold and the plot twists were excellent! I highly recommend giving this a read! It’s very dark, main theme points are s*x trafficking and p*rn stars, but if those topics don’t trigger you, please read this when it’s released on January 15th!!

First read of 2025: Even though this is a book about a very dark, disturbing topic, I was throughly wrapped up in it. I’m glad that Nix and Charlie ended up as they did. I wasn’t expecting some of the twists, so good job, DV Fischer!

I read this book before and I absolutely loved the story and was so excited to listen to it as an audiobook. However, I just don’t think the narrator was the right person for the job. Several points though out it seemed as if she was bored with narrating the story. I did love when it came to the part with the Russian character, that the Russian accent truly sounded Russian. The story itself is absolutely amazing, I just don’t think the narrator was the right choice.

I really enjoyed this book, I wish I was able to sit and read it in one sitting but life wouldn’t let me. Great fast past books with many twist and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. I really loved the plot twist at the end it really pulled everything together. All of the trigger warnings played well into the story.

OK, so, this one took me a hot minute to read. It is heavy, and it is dark, and it is not in the fun spicy way, even though there is some fun spice in this one. Her by D.V. Fisher is a romantic suspense, and it delivers on the suspense. Let me tell you that.
We get to follow Charlie, who happens to be our FMC of this particular read. She's out to prove that she deserves to be taken seriously, and this is one cop who feels like she has something to prove. Sadly, her estranged husband suddenly passes away, and she is given the opportunity to go undercover. Wanting to prove herself, she takes the assignment and goes undercover, infiltrating the dark underworld of drugs, violence, porn, sex, trafficking. Here, she meets Nix, the MMC of this dark story of ours. He is the leader of his group. (Honestly, I just can't. I am still recovering from this one, and recalling this name would reopen wounds that are not healed.)
Nix starts feeling like Charlie is his, and he starts to protect her from everyone and everything. (His only redeeming quality). I did kind of swoon at the way he would call her 'mama', I don't know what it is about a guy calling a woman 'mama', it just gives me the feels.
Now, I am going to take a moment here before I continue to give you a few warnings, in this book you are going to find, s*x trafficking (not MC), SA (not MC), p*rn, stalking, dark heavy topics, and secret identities.

One of the things that I love about this book is the fact that our FMC represents plus sized women. As a plus sized woman myself, I appreciate the representation that this brings to women of my size. And while to many, the romance may be rushed, I don't find that it personally seemed rushed. The romance between the FMC and MMC reminded me of the way my relationship with my husband went, and we are happily married today, and I am so happy that it happened the way it did. I wouldn't have wanted it to be any other way. Sometimes when you know you just know.
I love D.V. Fisher's books. I actually started ARC reading with a D.V. Fisher book, so I will happily read any of her books I can get my hands on. And this one, while I did do some emotional damage, I knew that it was possible, so that was my own fault. This is actually a really well written story.
What is sad is that Charlie ends up in a world that really exists in the real world, and she interacted with trafficked women . That happens every day in real life, and that is devestating to think about. It's honestly just terrifying to think about. And the plot twist, it was a chef's kiss. You never saw it coming, and you never knew what was going to come at you next as nothing was ever as it seemed, and no one was who they claimed to be.
If you like dark romantic suspense and you have read the trigger warning and content warning and feel you can handle this book, then I would say read it. This is a really well written book that, while it deals with dark themes, those themes are handled not only carefully but also with utmost respect. This is a great book, and if you can handle it, I would read it. But, it is going to be for a select few.

This was my first ARC for D.V. Fisher, and what a read it was!
This book is a romantic suspense. While there is some spice, it wasn't the main focus, which I actually enjoyed! This book is dark – and not in a sexual way.

But romance aside, the actual story was great! D.V. Fisher was able to give me a good understanding of the world Charlie ends up in, which is terrifying to think stuff like this exists in the real world. And the plot twist was fantastic! I did not see it coming, and nothing is as it seems!

This book was so good that I actually forgot that I was reading. The story flowed so well and was so entertaining that it played out in my head like I was watching a movie. Charlie and Nix had great chemistry together after Nix was willing to give in. I was really confused at Nix's role in the whole thing. There were hints that there was more to him throughout the story... but I couldn't figure out what it was until that bombshell was dropped on us.
Charlie is going on an undercover mission to find the boss of a trafficking ring. But this ring has different sections. There's the trafficking side of it, necrophelia that's happening, and the porn side of things. Charlie gets in on the porn side of things and tries to find out whatever information she can on the main guys to try to uncover who the boss is. Nix is basically her boss on the porn side of things. However, when Nix meets Charlie, he instantly knows there's something different about this girl and he wants to protect her at all costs. But protecting her will put both their lives in a lot of danger.
The twists in this book was so good. I'm usually pretty good and at picking up on what's going to happen in a book, but this one surprised me all the way through. It was dark and touched on dark themes, but it is so worth the read. Definitely give this book a read!! I enjoyed it so much that I wish I could read it again for the first time!

Well done DV Fisher! Her is a brilliantly written book about a very much taboo subject in and around drugs and sex trafficking. Please, if you have any triggers then be sure to read warnings before partaking in reading this well versed book.
A rookie cop wanting to prove herself above and beyond and to show her peers that she is better than what her parents were. Recently widowed and having lost everything Charlie needs to do something with her life besides grieve a man that she had grown apart from, who had left her destitute!
Needing to take the undercover job, the one that is not being offered to her, Charlie stumbles into a world that opens her eyes. Drugs, porn and sex trafficking, not something she is well acquainted with, but decides it is something she needs to do, to prove to herself that she is worthy of the uniform that she wears!
The meeting of Nix places her in the throes of the porn side of the business, but she wants to know it all and destroy every last piece of it.
What a read! The twists and turns in the plot as you get invested in Nix and Charlie's personal battles as they try and stay off the radar, keep you reading! But Nix's boss has other ideas!
The many curveballs that are thrown just make this story amazing.
Loved it from beginning to end and so glad that Nix and Charlie do finally reach a HEA. 5 amazing stars from me!

Loved every page of this book with its great plot, love, spice, drama, tension and characters you'll love. There’s an undercover cop, kidnapping, dark romance, fantastic twists and a HEA, what more could you want!!
