They were out there. Watching. Waiting. In the looming shadows around Thaler Academy, the wolf like creatures were hiding their terrible secret from the world. A student was dead, a teacher was missing...and Jennifer Field was terrified.
She and her friends were the only ones who knew the awful truth. For only miles away from the school, beyond the murky waters of a legendary lake called Witch's Eye, the alien horror had set up its unearthly home-killing trees and plants, and perhaps, anyone who knew too much.
I'm giving this book two stars because I had to go back and check out everything that happened because I finished reading it in the morning and had forgotten most of it by nighttime.
Yeah...ouch.
It seemed as if things were picking up but apparently not enough.
Spoilers for the first two books ahead so tread lightly.
Jennifer Field can't go two minutes without believing that everyone at Thaler Academy could possibly be a werewolf alien from outer space. Her mind is beginning to see those green eyes on the face of every person and for a minute she believed those closest to her could be deceiving her.
Monica Holt was recovering from having a cancerous cyst removed from her body and kept the illness hidden. The patch on her side was medicinal to cover the scars and ease the pain and not a form of technology allowing the space werewolves to breathe in our air.
People have been murdered to hide that these lupine alien lifeforms are planning to change the ecology of Earth so that they no longer need to hide but it will kill every living organism on the planet. Jennifer's boyfriend Lee Fawkes, her friend Marysue Beauford and Marysue's boyfriend and Lee's best buddy, Conrad Chang, know the truth as well as Jennifer.
The police department in the nearby town of Staines had been compromised with one of the aliens being someone Lee and Conrad thought they could trust so now they need adult allies to try and stop these lycanthrope extraterrestrials from wiping out life on Earth.
Jennifer receives a note from Thaler Academy's head librarian, Pauline Klopher, to meet at her apartment in the faculty boardinghouse with clear meaning that she knows the truth of what is going on. Arriving, Jennifer's knocking on the door is answered by her ecology professor who is guest lecturing at Thaler. His name is Borden Overbrook, and he takes her to Klopher's room but they both find it ransacked.
The police are called and as they wait, Jennifer feigns dizziness to bump into Overbrook's side to see if he will react. Proving that he is indeed human, she reveals everything to him and shows him a list she found on the librarian's desk. A list of places around Thaler and even Staines with mysterious meaning but now the party is growing so they go off in search for the missing librarian.
It leads them to a lake in town called Witch's Eye to search its shores for clues on how to find the wolves newest lair now that the lab has been destroyed. Tracking the enemy while Jennifer and the others are still the ones being hunted...
Still three more books to go and I can only pray that they get better than this.
Again an action-packed volume that I read very quickly, it's great to have more characters on board (even if they tend to accept the whole story a bit easily for my taste) and I'm excited to see what happens next!
