The best things in life come when you least expect them.

Ava Day has always done what was expected of her, but this time, her parents have gone too far. Needing space from their betrayal, she runs to the only family member who has ever truly supported her. Running to Ashford Falls might seem like a coward's way out, but it’s better than the alternative. She would only stay long enough to clear her head and figure out what came next, or so she thought.

Meeting the handsome cop and constantly running into him around town wasn’t something she planned or wanted—her life was already complicated enough. Searching him out one night might have been more intentional—and a little reckless. Making that one night more definitely wasn’t the most brilliant idea, but doing something for herself never felt more right.

When the future he saw for himself was ripped away on an army mission gone wrong, Gage Flynn had two wallow in self-pity for the rest of his life or learn to make the most of being back home with his family.

It’s hard, but he’s happy enough to go with the flow and let life take him wherever it goes. Meeting a beautiful woman wasn’t entirely out of the norm for him, but fighting for her to give him the time of day? Not the reaction he was accustomed to, but there’s something about Ava Day that won’t let him back down, an instinct that she needs him—even if it’s only for one night.

His mom always told him life was full of unexpected possibilities, he just never thought life would bring him an unexpected love.

Unexpected Love is a one-night stand, found family, emotional contemporary romance set in a fictional small town. This is the second book in the Love in Ashford Falls series, but each book can be read as a standalone. Happily ever after, guaranteed!

first off, please check the tw prior to reading this book <3

I loved, loved, loved this book! It was so fun getting to dive into Gage and Ava’s relationship, especially after being introduced to them back in Shuttered Hearts! Getting to experience the background of why Ava wanted to settle down in Ashford Falls and more of the nature of her and her brother Declan’s childhood was emotional and rough, and I commend Erin for writing such intense and emotional scenes.

I truly felt for Ava, and I found myself giggling and kicking my feet at how protective and caring Gage was once he was privy to what was going on back in Boston, as well as how caring he is of Ava in general.

Gage’s background to why he became a police officer in Ashford Falls was also emotional, and I think Erin did a wonderful job at explaining his path from active military to a police deputy. He is definitely going up on my list of dream book boyfriends—he was everything I want and more: caring, comfortable in his skin, honest!!

Ava and Gage’s relationship, which started out as a one-night-stand/friends-with-benefits situation that turned into something more, was so emotional and well-written and fun, and I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series!

Thank you to Erin and Love Notes PR for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

This one was a little too heavy for me. That said, please check TW. It was however, a beautiful story. Ava and Gage healed each other. I loved each of their bonds with their siblings. It was so sweet. Ava's parents and Brian made me physically ill. Like, I couldn't. But it was a beautiful love story. Thank you to love notes pr for the arc.

Unexpected Love was an emotional rollercoaster that I enjoyed with every page. Erin Graves created Gage Flynn and Ava Day beautifully as MMC and FMC. The patience and empathetic nature that Gage had was the perfect solution to Ava’s constant fear and struggle to let him in. Their love story was one for the books. It was just so organic and they complimented each other wonderfully. A true happily ever after story that I recommend reading!

Gage and Ava, god 🥹 I'm gonna be completely honest here and say that it took me a bit to get into this. While it is advertised as a standalone and it works as a standalone, I think I would've enjoyed the beginning more if I'd read the first book beforehand. But once the relationship really started going, I was all in. Gage and Ava both have reasons to be wary of relationships, so they start out as friends with benefits but they quickly realise that there's something more between them. Gage is an absolute dream boyfriend and I loved reading about him helping Ava heal. I don't want to spoil anything but he's a child of divorced parents and as someone who also went through that, there were a lot of scenes I could really see myself in him (which doesn't happen often with me and MMCs). I'm looking forward to seeing where this series takes us 💛

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a decent read. I went into a blindly, and I have to admit that my expectations were a little too high for this book but nevertheless, this book was a decent read. Ava has grown up with parents who never cared about her or her older brother Declan. After a series of traumatic and frightening events happen to her, she confide in her parents, expecting them to help her, but they are the total opposite. So she decides to go and visit her brother for a little while. While visiting her brother, she meets Gage. Gage is a veteran who got hurt and whose career was cut short so he decided to be a police officer, from his love of helping others. From the beginning of meeting him, I could tell that I was going to like Gage very much and I did, he was such a vibe. I really liked how protective he was over Ava and how he pushed her to her full potential, when at times she didn’t think she could or was capable. I enjoyed also seeing him break down her walls that she continually built up to shut him and her brother out. I also was thankful that Declan didn’t act like a jerk once he found out that they were together. I feel like too many books have older brothers acting completely off the wall when they find out that their best friend/friends are in love with their younger sister, and it gets old. To be completely honest Ava was getting on my nerves half of the book, she just didn’t seem to have a back bone. She at times came off as gullible and easy to manipulate and easy to put down especially when she allowed her parents to constantly harass and say such horrible things to her without saying anything back or taking up for herself, which bugged me. Eventually, towards the ending of the book, she finally stood up for herself to her parents, and finally fought for what she wanted and deserved, which made me so happy to see.

I received an Arc copy of this book and I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Okay I was SO emotional reading this! Gage and Ava were everything. That protective side of Gage? 🫠 I loved how he went for Ava and his persistency.. he’s definitely a top tier book boyfriend for me!!

Ava is such a strong fmc and I loved her! From what she’s been through, and how she continues living life, never really let it tear her down. Gage was so perfect for her, and I loved how she found that safe spot with him.

The found family was SO GOOD. I loved every single character. His family, the Marks family, Declan, everyone else. It gave giant hug feels 🫶🏼 Erin’s writing just gives that heartfelt, emotional yet happy feeling that I love! I’m so excited to read more of this series!!

Thank you so much to Erin Graves and Lovenotes PR for an advanced copy of this read for an honest review in return! I am so thankful to be able to recieve arcs that tug on my heartstrings and allow me to read authors that I might not have otherwise. This was a fun, refreshing, small town romance that had me wanting to pack up and move to Maryland. I adored the overall theme of self discovery and taking control of your own life. As a chronic people pleaser I find it hard to think about and do things for myself majority of the time and watching Ava go through the struggles of unlatching herself from her parents’ manipulation and choosing herself, was a good reminder for me that sometimes it IS okay to choose yourself. The importance of family was repetitive in so many different ways in this story and it was so heartwarming and special to see Ava be accepted into different types of families it truly shows that family runs so much deeper than blood. One thing that personally gives me the ick in romance books sometimes is the MMC having to have some original and quirky nickname for the FMC… I still have no idea why he called her rebel. Another charming, small town love story was the perfect way to round out my road trip reads.

2.5 rounded up because I liked the first book

But for me, this one just felt kind of dangerous to put out there.
This woman has had horrible things done to her, she is a lawyer, she’s dating a cop and she still keeps it a secret even though she’s still having issues?
She’s literally in the perfect position to get justice, to keep herself safe. Yet she puts everybody around her at risk by keeping a secret and lets a criminal walk around.

Oh my gosh, this book was amazing! I flew through this book in one day. Ava and Gage are one of the best couples I have ever read. You can just feel the love between the two of them, and it’s the best. I was in my toes for some of the parts. But truly Gage was with Ava 24/7 and he truly loved her no matter what. And he’s in law enforcement😉.

I received a ARC copy for this book and I’m so glad I did. This is the second book in the series, I do want to preference. I did not read the first book, but I did not feel confused at anything. Erin explained the characters perfectly, and I fell in love with her writing. This book is a must read!

Beta read!

Another beautiful, emotional, heartfelt story from the talented, Erin Graves.

Erin’s writing will make you feel seen, heard, and understood. Her small town love stories are
ones that make you want to cozy up with a cup of coffee or tea and settle in for the day to get
lost in her writing.

I adored Ava and Gage’s story. When we first met the two in book one, Erin set the scene
perfectly for their book to take place.

While this can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading book one in the series first,
Shuttered Hearts.

Blurb:
Ava Day is a well-respected lawyer in Boston, working for a prestigious law firm. That is until one day, she’s fired from the firm… But Ava isn’t exactly upset about the termination. In fact, she feels as if a weight has been lifted from her shoulders. With nothing holding her back in Boston (other than her manipulative and selfish parents – NO SPOILERS), Ava decides to go stay with her brother, Declan, in the small town of Ashford Falls, Maryland. Ava’s life isn’t exactly in order, and she has no idea how long she’ll remain in Ashford Falls.
Because of her unpredictable future, Ava wasn’t expecting to make friends with one of the local
police officers, Gage Flynn. But when Ava’s secrets and traumatic past follow her all the way from Boston to small town Maryland, Gage is the one person she feels she can confide in. The last thing either of them is looking for is a relationship. But banter and flirting turn into intimate moments spent together. Can the two remain “just friends” or will their time together turn into
an unexpected love story?

Ava and Gage’s love story will have you laughing at their banter, yelling at your kindle for them to admit their feelings, and blushing from their chemistry. Their story has some of my favorite elements in romance novels ranging from beautiful found family moments to “he takes care of her” scenes that will have you swooning. Ava and Gage’s story has a special place in my heart,
and this series has now become one of my “comfort reads” because Erin has created such heartwarming love stories through her writing.

Thank you, Erin, for trusting me to beta read this book! I’m so excited for everyone to experience Ava and Gage.

Highly recommend Unexpected Love for readers who enjoy:
- small town romance
- police officer MMC x lawyer FMC
- found family
- he takes care of her
- one night stand to more
- secret relationship
- spice

Unexpected Love is the second book in the 'Love in Ashford Falls' series, and it is a wonderful story!

Ava Day has always done what she can to please her parents, always done what is expected of her. However, because of how closely her parents' desires intertwined with Ava's interests/strengths, she never saw how much she was sacrificing for them. She also never saw the selfishness behind their persuasion. That is until her parents blatantly and repeatedly ignore their daughter's wishes and her SAFETY in order to get what they want. The realization that her parents are so quick to put her in harms way for their own personal gain is overwhelming to Ava. So, when her brother asks for her help in Ashford Falls, Ava doesn't think twice about packing a bag and booking a one-way flight.

It doesn't take long for Ava's path to cross Gage's- the handsome cop of Ashford Falls. When Gage first sees Ava, something draws him to her and he is compelled to go talk to her. He sees something in her eyes- a haunting- that makes him instantly intrigued by her (and makes him instantly ready to harm whoever put that look in her eyes). From the very first interaction between these two, the flirty banter ignites and takes off. It is so fun, and so cute!!

"𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘢 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦? 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘢 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘯."

Being a small town, it's impossible for these two to avoid each other. A few chance encounters leads to a weekly dinner together at the local bar, which leads to a connection and friendship. Of course Gage attempts to ask Ava out... several times.... and is repeatedly turned down lol (despite their obvious attraction to one another). Yet, Gage is perfectly happy to just be a friend who lends support and strength to Ava, when it is so clear she needs it.

"𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴. 𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮. 𝘐'𝘥 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵-𝘳𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦- 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱, 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘭𝘭 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘮𝘦."

...

"𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥. 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯'𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱.... 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵."

When the harassment and demands from her parents and Brian don't relent, Ava is more desperate than ever to regain control over her life, in whatever ways she can. One night with Gage to help her forget it all is just what she needs. Of course, one night is not enough for either of them and gradually turns into more.

"𝘈𝘷𝘢...𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦. 𝘐'𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘰. 𝘐'𝘮 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘦. 𝘛𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘯𝘰𝘴."

...

"𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳....𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘦𝘹, 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵?... 𝘠𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦?"
"𝘠𝘦𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐'𝘮 𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳."
"𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥." 𝘐 𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘳𝘬. "𝘜𝘴𝘦 𝘮𝘦."

Ava and Gage together will melt your heart. I couldn't get enough of these two together. Their chemistry is undeniable, their flirty banter is perfection, and I loved his nickname for her!! Gage is so respectful and constantly checks in with Ava. It is the sweetest thing that will truly tug at your heartstrings

"𝘙𝘦𝘣𝘦𝘭, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥?"

Gage is unwavering with his love and support- not just with Ava, but with everyone in his life. It is very important to him that his friends and family know that they can talk to him about anything and everything, and he will not judge them. His devotion and respectfulness is steadfast and very sexy!

Gage isn't the only person in Ashford Falls who is quick to show Ava love, support, safety, and comfort. That's what makes this world of Ashford Falls so incredible!! Gage's parents are quick to help Ava- whether it's with a funny distraction or the reassuring and encouraging words of a loving mom. Her brother Declan is there, giving Ava the space she needs to process everything while repeatedly checking in and providing opportunities for Ava to share. And the freaking. Mark's. family!! Gosh....I just can't get enough of them. Especially Scott!! Everyone needs a Scott Mark's in their life. I feel like every time he speaks, I cry.

"𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘣𝘺 𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘥, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘴 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵."

Ava is remarkably resilient, and wayyy stronger than she gives herself credit for. She is loving, supportive, and encouraging. She radiates a light, and I just wanted to hug her throughout the entire book.

The relationships shared among the characters in this book are so heartwarming. There is true love and respect and compassion. There are 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 and 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, and I AM HERE FOR IT!!! It makes me desperate to be a part of this found family lol.

With that being said, Ava's parents are HORRIBLE! And Brian is a heinous and despicable scumbag. I don't like to wish ill on others, but I really hope there is a special place in hell for people like them. They deserved far worse than what they got. However, I was thrilled to see Ava stand up to them.

Erin's stories are always so full of real-life turmoil- making her stories extremely easy to relate to. She always wraps them up in such a warm, loving, feel-good way. The heartache and tribulations are always well balanced with humor, encouragement, hope, and love.

10/10 recommend this book. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because I wanted more information about her parent's motives, and I wanted Brian to get more of what was coming to him.

I am loving this Ashford Falls world and the found family within it. I cannot wait for the next.

OK because why did this book literally give me so many happy vibes. I enjoyed this book so much that I did not wanna put it down. I think what really caught my attention. Was that the FMC was a lawyer, and the MMC was a sheriff. I think that alone told me what I was gonna be expecting, and I was absolutely impressed.

This story was very close to home for me as I am a child of divorced parents. So there was a lot of talk about that in the story and I very much appreciated the approach to it. It felt very real and very natural, but it also showed how divorced can really impact families.

Ava and Gage are the cutest couple ever. I loved the way they came together. I love that it was rooted in healing, growth, and overall just trusting yourself to be worthy of love. I feel like both of them have back stories that were really compelling, and their character Arcs were great. My heart truly goes out to Ava and Declan. The family issues that they’ve had to deal with really just break my heart. But I am so glad that by the end of the book they knew that they did not have to deal with their family and they chose themselves in the end.

I am so glad that Gage did what he did to Brian. Not gonna go further into it, but I’m very glad that that happened.

Where can I get gauge? Because he was one of the best Book husbands in a while. I felt like he was everything and more. He was so down bad, that he literally couldn’t contain himself. I felt like he was very patient, he was very understanding, and he really wanted to see her grow. He was willing to do whatever it took to help her grow. That is the kind of Book boyfriend/husband that people want.

I think the story also hits on the theme of sound family, and I found that this book did a really good job of covering it. I loved how the small town really helped Ava to see that she deserved love. And I also love a good small town story, because it usually involves people stepping in and making sure that people are loved and supported. I was crying a lot during moments where people would really show her that they cared about her.

I am so happy that I got to read the story. Thank you so much Erin for writing such a beautiful story, and I can’t wait to see what comes next from you and thank you. Love notes PR again for letting me read this.

This series just keeps getting better and better! This book has to be one of my favorites of the month. It was raw, heartbreaking, emotional, and romantic. Ava, Declan’s sister, leaves her hometown for Ashford Falls, after a major family betrayal. She doesn’t trust who she is anymore, and goes to Ashford Falls for an escape and help a family friend in a child custody case. There she meets Gage, the town’s sheriff, and they start a friends with benefits situation as they don’t want feelings involved as they both have negative views on relationships. This only lasts so long as feelings develop and they open their hearts to each other. Ava has never seen a positive relationship and Gage doesn’t do relationship but they unexpectedly find love together!
I adored this book. Ava had so much courage and strength to stand up to her family and determine the path she wanted to take. Gage was the protector and cared for his family wholeheartedly , and I loved seeing Gage’s family dynamics. The found family aspect was perfect and I loved seeing Gage have such strong relationships with his parents and siblings! Seeing them positively support and love Ava was truly amazing. They took her under their wing and lifted her up. One of my favorites scenes was when Ava was in the kitchen with Gage’s mom, Laura, talking to her about everything that was going on with her family. Laura was there to listen and that quote where she said “don’t let some man who means nothing to you ruin it. He’s not worth it” especially resonated with me. I think Ava was able to find her full potential by being surrounded by good people in her life and distancing herself from her own family. This was such a beautiful, raw, fun, and sweet small town romance! And it was also so cool that it takes place in Maryland, where I’m from cause I have yet to find another book set here.
I can’t wait for this series to continue and find out the whole story of Abbey and Jude!

Thank you Love Notes PR for this ARC!

“everyone should have someone in their corner. Even if they aren’t quite ready to let someone in.”

If you are looking for a LOVE story here you go!! This was such a good, sweet, emotional read. I met Erin last year when I read the first book of this series...Shuttered Hearts...This was where we first meet Ava and you know there is something happening in her life that isn’t good, but we don’t learn what, it’s comforting to know she does have a safe place to land in Ashford Falls. Needless to say I was excited to dive into Unexpected Love so I could learn her backstory and what caused such a big life change.

Ava’s relationship that she has with her big brother Declan is sweet to watch! After knowing what they came from...the worst parents ever, it was good to see that they had each other and the found family in Ashford Falls. Let me just say, her parents are the biggest nightmares! I truly wanted to throat punch those people. Ava was beaten down, emotional/physically scarred, not confident in herself, and questioning her life. The journey she took to truly figure herself out and what she wanted in life was fun and hard to watch! The family, career, love!

Gage was just 🤗🥰!! That man was
patient, strong, and so dang swooney!! THIS...”Life is all about the messy moments. It’s about how you handle them. I’d just like a front-row seat to see you come out the other side-and maybe help, if you’ll let me.” Come on! I loved watching him realize that he wanted and needed Love with Ava.

Also...l do need to shout out Ava watching Veronica Mars!! Made my heart happy!!

❄️ a small town romance
❄️ MCs who swear they don’t want to fall in love
❄️ side characters you can’t help but fall in love with
❄️ a found family for the ages
❄️ younger siblings who know how to annoy their older siblings
❄️ a protective MMC to make you swoon
❄️ a strong FMC learning to stand
up for herself

This can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading Shuttered Hearts first!

Thank you so much, Erin and Love Notes PR, for the ARC! All opinions are my own ♡

Adding one more book to my "easiest 5-star reads" list. This was truly beautiful.

Ava and Gage are now one of my favourite book couples, hands down. They just fit together so well—understanding each other on a deeper level, and their connection felt so real and genuine. Excluding Brian and Ava’s parents, the whole story gave me that warm, fuzzy feeling—like a cozy hug. The small town vibe was so well done, with characters that really felt like family. And I really appreciated how, even with so many characters, Erin made sure that each one had depth and a purpose. It never felt overwhelming, and she struck a great balance by keeping the focus on Ava and Gage's journey. I have read a lot of books to know that it's not easy to juggle multiple characters while still keeping the heart of the story intact, but Erin did it beautifully.

I truly love and feel for Ava. She deserves all the good things in life after everything she's endured, from her selfish parents to Brian. It was such a joy to watch her finally take control of her life and go after what she wanted. There's nothing more fulfilling than seeing her stand up for herself and own her happiness.

And of course, Gage. He easily wormed his way into my heart. Gage is the kind of man who listens, pays attention, and always shows up—not just for Ava, but for everyone he cares about. That says so much about his character. He was there for Ava in every way that mattered, never pushing her beyond what she was ready to give. Ugh, another swoon worthy book boyfriend that I love.

Overall, I highly recommend this book if you're in the mood for a heartfelt small-town romance with a strong found-family trope. Definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in, but this was truly a beautiful story, Erin.

I extend my gratitude to Love Notes PR and the author, Erin Graves, for the opportunity to read and review this work

This book provided a satisfactory reading experience. I approached it without prior knowledge and must admit that my expectations were somewhat elevated; however, it still turned out to be a worthwhile read.

Ava grew up in a household where her parents showed little concern for her or her older brother, Declan. Following a series of traumatic and distressing incidents, she seeks solace in her parents, hoping for their support, but they respond in a completely contrary manner. Consequently, she decides to spend some time with her brother. During her visit, she encounters Gage, a veteran whose injuries ended his military career, prompting him to pursue a path in law enforcement driven by his desire to assist others. From the moment I met Gage, I sensed that I would come to appreciate his character, and indeed, he was quite engaging. I admired his protective nature towards Ava and how he encouraged her to realize her full potential, especially during moments when she doubted her abilities. I also appreciated witnessing him dismantle the emotional barriers she had constructed to keep him and her brother at a distance. Additionally, I was relieved that Declan did not behave poorly upon learning of their relationship.

To be frank, Ava's character frustrated me for a significant portion of the book; she often appeared to lack assertiveness. At times, she seemed naive and easily influenced, particularly when she allowed her parents to continuously belittle her without defending herself, which was bothersome. However, by the conclusion, she finally asserted herself against her parents and fought for what she truly wanted and deserved, which was gratifying to witness.

I had the pleasure of beta and arc reading this book for Erin and from the beginning, I was in love with it! This was my introduction to Erin’s writing and it’s fantastic — It’s emotional, relatable and really draws you in. She’s also the sweetest person ever and loves to interact with her readers!

Gage and Ava stole my heart! Gage, with his intuitive, protective, rugged yet gentle demeanor and Ava, with her strength and resilience. I loved them individually and together as a couple. Gage is easily one of my favorite MMC’s to date! The way he showed up for Ava, supported her, gave her a safe place to be herself and do what made her happy was the best. Watching Ava grow and thrive under his love and care was a huge highlight for me as well. Also, their chemistry and connection was SO palpable — You could feel it as you were reading! The intimacy between them was out of this world and they were so in tune with one another. I loved their dynamic so much!

Another highlight was Ava’s relationship with her brother, Declan. It warmed my heart that they had each other to lean on while navigating through the broken, abusive relationship with their parents.

Overall, this book was packed with so many funny, tender, raw, tense, sweet moments! It was the best kind of emotional rollercoaster to be on. I really look forward to the third book in the series and getting to see more of these characters!

Thank you so much to Erin and Love Notes PR for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was actually my first introduction to Erin, even though I have read her debut. I started my alpha read of Unexpected Love while Shuttered Hearts was prepping for release. It’s been the most fun and exciting ride and it was truly a joy to read this story in its newest and then completed forms to see all the changes.

Unexpected Love is a swoon-worthy small town romance between two main characters that aren’t really sure love or relationships are in the cards for them. Gage has never seen a relationship works and thinks they’re totally bogus. Ava has been so focused on work and then has to flee her home—no time to even consider a relationship. So, obviously, they run into each other and nothing is ever the same.

This story has been my favorite by far in Erin’s Love in Ashford Falls series. Gage and Ava are the most beautiful representation of “love will find you when you’re least expecting it”. Both were so supportive of the other and their friendship and intrigue developed into so much more with barely any warning.

Though this book has so many swoon-worthy and sweet moments, Erin does a great job diving into more complex and deep topics that lead to a decent amount of stress, anxiety, and angst for our MCs. I think each conflict was perfectly placed to really challenge their foundations and they never wavered.

Unexpected Love was cozy in the best way. I know that may seem weird since there was some angst but the entire setting just made me. Feel warm and fuzzy the entire read-through and kept the heavy topics feel a lot less so. This one is easily going into the “reread” pile because Erin made me feel - I felt each emotion as it happened and heard the dialogue in my soul. And when an author can move you like that, you reread the book.

This book is a great read. Ava and Gage have both had to face making big changes in their lives and letting the past go. For Ava walking away meant leaving a job she had come to hate and the parents who tried to force an arranged marriage on her. In the past, her priory had been to make her parents proud, but the arranged marriage to a man she despised was a step too far. She finds herself in Ashford Falls staying with her brother and handling a child custody case for a dear friend. She never expected a handsome, compassionate deputy to change her life for the better. Unfortunately, her parents and the would-be bridegroom aren’t ready to let her go.

Gage was forced to take a new direction after he was injured in the military. He chose an honourable discharge rather than sitting behind a desk for the rest of his military career. Becoming a deputy in his home town of Ashford Falls gives him the opportunity to serve and protect, just on a smaller scale. Love and marriage have not been on his radar or wish list after watching his parents marry and divorce multiple times. He never expected that to change until a beautiful stranger with sad eyes and a stressed demeanor crosses his path at a local hangout. Both he and Ava discover that what her friend told her is true.

“Sometimes, being forced to change one aspect of your life leads to a domino effect of wonderful things falling into it.”

I loved Gage’s immediate attraction to Ava, his awareness and perception into her distress and unease, and his need to help and protect her. His lighthearted and funny guy facade puts people at ease while he is assessing people and the situation. He immediately put Ava at ease, so much so that she allowed him to comfort her and he is the one she runs to when she is overwhelmed, not her brother. Gage makes her feel safe and cared for while still showing her that she is stronger than she thinks. His encouragement empowers her and helps her to make decisions based on what will make her happy, not to gain the approval of her parents. Neither Ava or Gage were looking for or expecting love to find them. They just needed to open themselves up to the possibility of it.

This emotional and very engaging book has my full recommendation.

📚 Overall Reading Experience & Impressions

This book reads like a Hallmark Christmas movie—sweet, emotional, and full of heart. The romance is touching, and I loved the dynamic between the heroine and her brother. The writing beautifully navigates trauma and resilience, making the story deeply emotional but rewarding. While the ending wrapped up well, I wanted more clarity about the heroine’s parents and their motivations.

• 🏡 The cozy setting added warmth to the emotional depth
• 💔 The heroine’s resilience was inspiring and well-written

❌ What Didn’t Work

Military hero? Sign me up!

Unexpected love is the second book in the Love in Ashford Falls series by Erin Graves. It follows Ava and Gage’s journey.

Ava is at a crossroads in her life, she has horrible parents who put her down instead of protecting and lifting her up during a very horrible situation. All her life she has been manipulated by them and now, for their selfish reasons they have arranged a marriage with a man who tried to assault her.
So, she goes to Ashford Falls to stay with her big brother, who has left his selfish parents too, and there she finds Gage Flynn.

Gage is an army veteran, now turned into a small town deputy. He doesn't believe in love and relationships, but he will soon start to realize that everything he thought was a lie and when you find the right person, everything comes so easy.

Ava is a little bit reluctant, because she has a lot going on in her life at the moment. Her parents are at her throat and her ass**** arranged “fiancé” doesn't take no for an answer.

I love all the side characters, especially Gage parents and siblings. They were great!
I can't wait for the third book and Abbey's story.

It was a beautiful story of escaping manipulative parents and finding your own path in life, but also believing in the right person and love. It was a tough read, because it deals with some heavy topics, so please check the TW before going into this book. There are some descriptive scenes that can be tough for some readers.

Ava’s always followed the rules, but she’s finally ready to put herself first. One reckless night with Gage was supposed to be just that—one night. But when it turns into something more, she realizes that doing what she wants has never felt so right.

For Gage, meeting women is easy—fighting for one’s attention? Not so much. But from the moment he meets Ava, he knows she’s different. And when unexpected feelings take over, neither of them are ready for just how much they’ll change each other’s lives.

Review 💭
"Ava, talk to me. You have all my extra strength. Whatever you need, you have it. Just talk to me."

I was so lucky to beta-read this book, so getting an ARC and seeing Gage and Ava’s final story was everything. Their connection? Magnetic. Gage didn’t just care—he saw Ava, supported her, and gave her the strength she didn’t know she had.

This book is packed with tender, emotional, and heart-melting moments that make Ava and Gage unforgettable. Ava’s growth was beautiful, and Gage? Pure perfection. His loyalty, love for his family, and devotion to Ava just proved he’s one of the good ones.

This story hits hard in the feels and lingers long after the last page. Erin writes romance that’s raw, real, and impossible to put down. This is the second book in her series—definitely read Shuttered Hearts before its release on March 19th! 💜

Thank you, Love Notes PR, for the ARC.

Always read the trigger warnings at the end of the book. And, this story has explicit sexual content.

This book is part of the Love in Ashford Falls series, but you can read it as a standalone.

I am really starting to enjoy small-town romance books. The FMC arrives in town to be reunited with her brother and to help someone close with a court case. Also, to escape her manipulative parents in Boston. At court, she meets a handsome cop. The MMC has this golden retriever vibes. He has such a good heart, always helping the people he cares about. He's just boyfriends goals. Their banter is just so fun! The chemistry between them is out of this world. How they care about each other... they're relationship goals!

There was a lot of laughter but also a lot of sadness. At one point, the words became blurry cause of the tears in my eyes. I loved every single character in town! They're all so caring and friendly. Just one big family. And that ending was just beautiful. I can't wait to read the other books in this series.

How is this the second book in this series!? It seems like just yesterday I read Shuttered Hearts (Book 1) in the Love in Ashford Falls Series where I first met Gage and Ava! I remember feeling like I would love their story and I was correct!!!

Ava Day as always been a go-getter, an achiever…of her parent’s dreams. Growing up as the daughter of one of the most affluent families in her hometown, she’s never questioned her path, until now. When complication with a coworker leads her to leave her job at a prestigious law firm in Boston, Ava is left wondering where life will take her but, when her brother calls her to Ashford Falls in need of help, she sees a glimmer of her path forward. Gage Flynn had a military path mapped out for him; however, when he's in a life altering accident, he’s forced to return home to Ashford Falls. It’s not the path he envisioned for himself but it’s one that unexpectedly leads him to Ava.

Gage Flynn!! He is the most intuitive, rugged, swoony, protective MMC ever and I think I am in love! For a man so guarded, he went all in for Ava! I loved how observant he was with Ava and her needs, constantly being open to helping her, but also recognizing her need for independence and growth. Ava was such a relatable character for me, struggling to find her own voice amidst the people pleasing tendencies that have been predominant in her life. I really enjoyed the vulnerability she showed in her growth to discover herself and the strength to be unwavering on that journey. Gage and Ava together are the perfect mix of heat, tension, and flirty banter, but also have an ease about their relationship that is so heartwarming and special, something that makes you root for them.

I really enjoy Erin’s stories so much! They have a cozy vibe with relatable characters and great depth! Even through the more angsty and emotional moments, there is a always a sense of hope embedded within. This series is so found family driven; I find myself invested in more than just the main characters. I can’t wait to see what comes next!

I was lucky enough to alpha read this and just adored this couple from the jump.

This was a solid read that evokes a lot of emotions, showcases complex characters and what it looks/feels like to find love unexpectedly. You want nothing more than for Ava to be happy, safe, and find love and she does find all of that and more with Gage. And to see Ava and Gage's connection grow and how he stepped in to be there for her was nice. I loved seeing them go from strangers to one night stand (very short-lived lol) to friends to lovers was a nice journey to read. Gage is the quintessential boyfriend, supportive, protective, attentive, caring, and loving. I enjoyed seeing him go after what felt right between him and Ava despite him believing he didn't want a committed relationship, but also doing it in a way that was still respectful and mindful of her boundaries. I enjoyed Gage's character and would've loved to maybe get more glimpses of Gage's life, as it seemed to mainly focus on what was going on with Ava.
And the parents...😡😤🤬 I'd like to think there is a special place in hell for them! I do wish we got more about their motives than what we did. I feel like it wrapped up too quickly given it played a central role in the plot of the book.
This book is tense, emotional, tender, sweet, love all wrapped in one.

I just finished this, and I really enjoyed it! First time reading this author, and it’s a solid 4/5 for me. Ava and Gage are both super likable characters, and their story is such a fun mix of emotions and lighthearted moments.

Their relationship starts off as a one night stand/friends with benefits situation, but watching it turn into something real was really well done. The chemistry between them is amazing, and I loved the banter they had.

I also loved the relationships outside of Ava and Gage’s romance. The bond between Ava and her brother was so heartwarming, and I really enjoyed seeing how Gage's family and the Scott family fit into the story. It added a lot of depth and warmth, making everything feel even more personal.

Erin Graves’ writing is easy to follow and keeps you hooked. She does a great job of balancing the emotional stuff with fun moments that keep things light. Plus, the small-town setting just added to the charm, making it the perfect backdrop for their relationship to grow.

Overall, it was a really fun read, and I’m excited to see what’s next in the series!

Thank you Love Notes PR and Erin Graves for providing me with this ARC and in exchange for an honest review!

Ava Day has spent her life following a set plan—building a successful career in law, being the perfect daughter, and sticking to what society expects of her. But when unexpected stuff happens at work, she ends up back in Ashford Falls, forcing her to rethink everything. That's when she runs into Gage.

Gage Flynn had his sights set on a military career with a clear path, but life threw him a curveball after an accident, bringing him back home. As he starts this new chapter, he’s surprised to find Ava becoming a big part of his life, showing him that the best connections often crop up when you least expect them.

Gage balances being protective and sensitive in his relationship with Ava, giving her the space she needs to figure out who she really is while being her safe haven. Watching Ava grow—breaking free from expectations and finally putting herself first—has been a rewarding experience for him.

The chemistry between them is electric, filled with fun banter, deep emotional ties, and a romance that unfolds beautifully. Erin does a fantastic job of capturing small-town vibes and personal growth, making this book a truly enjoyable read. If you’re into heartfelt romances with strong characters and real emotions, this one’s definitely worth picking up.

Unexpected Love is truly an unexpected gem! I was not prepared for the feelings this book made me feel by the time I finished reading it. It started out as a cozy read but became such a beautiful story in the end.

Tropes:
- Small town
- New in town FMC
- Cop x Lawyer
- Secret & casual relationship
- Hurt x comfort
- Found family

Ava runs away to the small town of Ashford Falls after her life crumbles, to help her brother’s found family in a legal matter. At the courthouse she meets Gage, a police officer, who feels compelled by Ava the moment he first sees her. Thanks to it being a small town their paths keep crossing, making them become more than just acquaintances.

Ava and Gage’s relationship evolves so well over the course of the story, from Gage giving support to Ava when she needs it, to protecting and loving her. The way Ava finds a family with people who support her is really comforting.
That epilogue though, it broke me…

Also, I wish Brian didn’t get away that easily, he should have been hit by a bus or something.

Thank you to the author and Love Notes PR for the ARC and the opportunity to read this book before the release. This is my honest review.
