Aqua Vista #1

Just Jack

Rate this book
Aaron

When I’m running on fumes while driving on what feels like the loneliest stretch of road in California, I worry I’m in trouble. Luckily, I happen upon Aqua Vista, a sleepy coastal town with the only pump for miles, and the grumpy owner who is more gorgeous than he has any right to be. When I’m told I’ll need more than fuel to disable the check engine light on my dash, I figure there are worse places to be stuck while my car gets needed repairs.

Jack

After driving the handsome city dweller to a local motel, the last thing I expect is the hot hookup that happens afterward. As soon as his car is ready, he’s on his way home, so imagine my surprise when he shows up a couple of months later with an offer to buy my business. No way I want an out-of-towner to own part of what my family has built here. Even if I’m not always fulfilled by it. Besides, it belonged to my parents, and it’s all I have left of them.

When Aaron decides to spend several days in town, I figure it’s to soften me up to his proposal. I shouldn’t hook up with him again. Or spend time showing him around…but I do. Before I know it, the charming, attractive visitor starts to feel familiar, almost like he belongs here. Like he’s woven himself into the very fabric of Aqua Vista. I’m fooling myself, of course, and it’ll certainly sting when he hits the road. Outsiders never stay, and though I secretly wish he would, I’m no stranger to heartache.

Cute but forgettable, like there wasn’t anything groundbreaking in this story. It was a short, sweet, low angst, grumpy x sunshine/ small town boy x city boy romance. If that is what you are looking for then pick this up!

Overall i am glad i read it, but i will forget it by the end of the week, oh well!

Nothing groundbreaking, but Just Jack is still a fun and sexy story with the usual tropes: city slicker meets small-town boy; outgoing & cheerful vs. introverted & broody; one-night stand turns into forever.

Jack and Aaron are both likable characters, and it was easy enough to cheer them on.

The backstory around Jack's family is sad if predictable. The number of MCs in MM romance who are orphans is astonishing.

While the town folk are certainly present, the secondary characters don't overwhelm the story (I'm looking at you, May Archer).

I'm having serious doubts that Rocco, Aaron's friend and business partner, is as straight as he thinks he is, but I could be wrong there.

Lots of California vibes and sunshine if you're into that. (I'm decidedly a snow and cozy cabin kind of girl.)

It’s been… fine. Nothing spectacular, but well narrated by NJR, so I didn’t mind the lack drama too much.

Just Jack’s is the only gas station for miles, owned by - you guessed it - Jack. When a posh looking guy has a problem with his car that requires him to stay the night, it doesn’t take long for their respective gaydar to ping and they hook up.

A few weeks later, Aaron (the posh guy) returns - partly because he couldn’t forget Jack, and partly because he wants to buy Jack’s business.

You can imagine how that goes, considering that Jack is born and bred in Aqua Vista, the small town that this series is named after.

It’s… nice. No real drama on page and potential for at least two more mm romances. The narration kept me company well enough, but even NJR could make me rate it higher than 3 stars 🤷‍♀️

Again, it’s not bad, but you’re not really missing out on anything if you skip it.

First book of the year! It was a good one too. This felt different than the Christina Lee books I’ve read in the recent years. This book featured older men in their 30’s and I liked this a lot. I don’t mind reading about college aged characters but this was a refreshing change.

I thought this book unfolded nicely, there was no big drama or miscommunication. Aaron and Jack were two grown men who had reservations about a relationship but they didn’t try to stop what was forming between them.

The town of Aqua Vista is another character in the story and I loved it. It sounds too good to be true and I’d love to visit a town like this. The supporting characters were all fully developed and I felt like there is a few characters that will be getting stories. I’m looking forward to all of them.

Miss Lee writes with compassion, and her book evokes so many images of beauty and interest. The characters are so well-fleshed, and the chemistry between the MCs is palatable.

I adored this story of the grumpy auto shop owner and the kind-hearted businessman who is sunshine personified. Through a chance meeting, Jack meets a flustered Aaron, who is in desperate need of fuel and some car repairs. Aaron quickly becomes besotted with the small and quirky town of Aqua Vista. Aaron and Jack find an instant flaring attraction.

Back home, Aaron describes the beauty of the small village and how he was desperate to find gas. Apparently, the shop was the only one around for a long stretch. His partner Roco came up with the idea of buying an auto shop, which could turn into a lucrative business.

This gives Aaron the perfect excuse to visit again. Jack is dead set against selling, and before long, the men reconnect. I loved how the relationship evolved. Aaron bonded not only with Jack but also with his family and friends. Jack was extremely grumpy and seemed unfair at times, but he has a background story that explains so much. Frankly, the two compliment each other.

This is an endearing tale of tragedy and new beginnings. Once I started reading this novel, I couldn’t put it down. I am hopeful to visit Aqua Vista again. Hint, Hint to Ms. Lee. Happy reading.

This was a sweet, low angst, spicy. I really enjoyed reading Jack and Aaron’s story. Their first run in wasn’t ideal but their chemistry still managed to spark through and something drew Aaron back to meet Jack again under the guise of buying his business. Jack is still stifled under loss and dealing with being burned in the past and is the definition of a grumpy grump but Aaron manages to peel back the layers and forge a connection both have trouble denying. There are a ton of sweet moments (and a ton of spicy ones) between the two and the small town found family vibe is full of character and just lovely. This was a great first book in the series and I’m curious about a lot of characters like Rocco and Johnny and Frank and I’m excited to see who we meet next.

I love a book with small town vibes. This has it in spades. It's obviously insta lust between Jack and Aaron (our MCs), which eventually develops into love. There are so many obstacles to overcome, both have been burned by terrible past relationships, so they have to learn how to trust once again and let one another in. This is such a sweet romance, with very little angst, Aaron is such a sweetheart, it was adorable how he was willing to move for Jack, after Jack was a little reluctant to commit. The secondary characters are integral to the story, we're talking found family here (another favourite trope of mine), drunk Aaron is adorable and the ending is sweet. Nice writing yet again from Christina, great characters, good dialogue and well written.

This is a totally solid and relatively light small town meets big city book, and it was an enjoyable read! I do appreciate small town books where the author doesn't feel the need to make up 100 side characters and introduce them all in the first book in the series, so I really appreciated that here. I also liked that the small town was in California and not Maine/Vermont/etc. like so many other romances! I enjoyed both MMCs, this just wasn't particularly memorable either way. Will be reading the next in the series!

Aqua Vista is a small scenic town in the middle of nowhere California where everyone knows everyone. When Aaron needs his car repaired, he doesn't expect to meet Jack, a man guarded from his pas5 heartache. Both MCs haven't had the easiest time in their love lives, so it takes them time to see what they have in front of themselves. When Aaron returns to Aqua Vista, he becomes entranced with the ins and the outs of the town along with the growing something with Jack.
These two don't have exactly an easy go at it, but they have a true real-life relationship. You feel they were meant to entangle their lives fully with each other. The building of trust takes time, and it's a beautiful ride to see how even as we grow older, we are able to grow and build beautiful lasting relationships.

💬 My Thoughts:

👉 This was such a cozy and sweet read. It’s well written, easy to get into, and has those little moments that really hit you emotionally.

I loved these two... Aaron and Jack couldn’t be more different. Aaron’s this warm, friendly city guy, and Jack’s a bit of a grump who runs a garage in a tiny coastal town. They meet by accident when Aaron’s car breaks down, and what’s supposed to be just a quick stop turns into something more.

Honestly, I loved how natural everything felt. No big drama, just two grown men figuring things out and slowly falling for each other.

The town of Aqua Vista is full of charm, almost like a character on its own.
I enjoyed the calm pace, the sun-soaked setting, and the way the people welcomed Aaron.

It’s a story about finding home in unexpected places, healing from the past, and choosing love even when it feels scary.

It’s one of those books that leaves you with a warm feeling when you finish it.

The story of Aaron and Jack is an engaging and poignant one, two men drawn to each other at first sight, one with baggage from a past tragedy and breakup, the other not totally satisfied with his life when he ends up in Aqua Vista, a small California coastal town, overnight. The pull between Jack and Aaron is strong and results in an encounter neither can forget. A couple months after, Aaron is back in town with two purposes, an offer for Jack to purchase his garage, and a chance to get away from work and the city. As the two men spend more time together, and get to know each other, feelings for Jack and the town and surrounding area get under Aaron’s skin, the small town life and close knit community filling a void he didn’t realize he was feeling and leading him to thoughts of the future. Jack is also developing feelings for Aaron, although he is in more of a self-protection mode due to a past breakup that has elements of the past repeating itself, but Aaron has a way of wearing away at those barriers.

World building of the physical beauty in the area around Aqua Vista sets the scene, and interactions with Jack’s family and many of the quirky residents of the small town create vivid pictures in my mind of the area and inhabitants. I can visualize the mountains, the streets with the various interesting shops, and the people Aaron gets to know and appreciate in the small community. The encounter with the eagles and the turtles, especially the turtles, made me quite emotional. You can feel the care and concern of those who live there and the support they show for each other and strangers alike, making it a very comfortable, welcoming place.

Jack and Aaron are very realistic and relatable characters, their relationship develops naturally from a brief encounter to meetings with more feelings and involvement, realizing that needs they had were being met in a more meaningful way than expected. Seeing Jack able to release some old fears and tensions and be open to new possibilities was very satisfying. Both completed the other and fulfilled that desire for someone to feel like home. I enjoyed the book and was invested in their relationship, loved the people of Aqua Vista, and would love to spend time in a place just like that. An easy, low angst read with some beautiful emotional, spicy encounters.

I received an advance copy of the book and this is my voluntary review.

Great Story, Narration & Audible Listen🎧 A Heartwarming Small Town Romance!

Just Jack
Aqua Vista, Book 1
By: Christina Lee
Narrated by: Nick J. Russo

Christina Lee pens another wonderful novel, a small town romance that captivates your attention and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. This first book of her “Aqua Vista” series is Aaron’s and Jack’s, and the two meet when Aaron’s car is running on fumes and Jack’s gas station is the only one around for miles. And with his car needing more than gas, he sticks around to wait for it to be serviced. Aaron may come from the city, but not only was he taken with Jack, but with Aqua Vista, too. Jack carries a lot of weight on his shoulder, and he never got over the loss of his parents. And from his experience, he knows long-distance relationships never work out, so he fights his attraction to Aaron because he knows he won’t be sticking around. It was great watching these two get to know each other and enjoyed watching their relationship grow into something more. I also enjoyed the small town charm and getting to meet some of the other residents. This heartwarming story is low on angst and has the perfect balance of drama, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. The writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. Christina Lee, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Nick J. Russo delivers an amazing performance bringing these characters to life, giving each a voice that was fitting and was believable in every role. His portrayal of each character was spot-on, grasping every aspect of their personalities and demeanor perfectly. He set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. Russo is a versatile voice artist and his performance elevates the story to another level. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to.

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Christina Lee is an author who continues to surprise me in the best way possible. Some of her earlier work was a miss for me, but i thought Just Jack was pretty fabulous and i'm very much a fan of this!

I think small town romances can be tricky, as the author has to magnify the town's charm through a bevy of characters, with definition and more energy dedicated to the sprawl than just the couple in love. Sometimes that's spread too thin and the begonias, wood siding and hardware store are just props.

But sometimes everything that town IS takes on a life of its own and that whole vibe becomes an indelible part of the series. Not JUST for eponymous reasons, but because the charm has done just that, made the small town seem enchanting, and it's hard to separate that magic from the love story, even when things start off as a smokin' hot hookup!

And that's what i loved about Just Jack! Even before the MCs were eating each other with their eyes, the small town vibe did its thing and it was very easy to fall in love along with Jack and Aaron! And it was a sexy sweet journey i'm happy to make again and again the longer this series goes on, because i was gone for every cool and smushy and healing-from-a-sad-thing thing that happened in this read! More complex than i had anticipated but very satisfying heart flutters and warm snuggly feelings were had.

I also REALLY loved that this was a Cali beach town, because these romances usually take place in a town tucked in fall foliage! So this was a unique, surf and sun-filled story that just brightened up every part of my brain and i could not get enough of it!

I had the best time with this and i cannot wait to dive right into Dear John because i've already lost my mind after reading that blurb, and if it has even an ounce of the charisma this book had i'm sure to adore it just as much!

4 Stars!

This story has a small-town theme with low angst, where instalust develops into love over time. While Jack and Aaron meet by chance, their attraction and chemistry is a potent force. At first, I wasn't sure of Jack, but he really is a good guy with a past that has haunted him. I liked that he slowly opened up and talked with those around him about the events. He finally started to heal and let go of some of the anger he was carrying.

I loved how Aaron's visit to Aqua Vista helped him recognize that he was far away from the things that made him happy and that he took time to reevaluate. I liked that Jack let Aaron in little by little, even though it made him uncomfortable at times. I was happy that they communicated well and that Jack was honest about his reluctance to get into a relationship with anyone again. While they understood where they were at, they both put in the effort to see each other again. I liked that Aaron and Jack were able to talk about the issues that came up in a way that was reassuring and helped them move forward. I enjoyed watching both men move in new directions that fit better. Their happiness outside of their relationship was easy to see as they made changes, and I liked that they took their time about it all.

I enjoy reading stories with small towns. Aqua Vista has had its share of tragedies, but the residents pitch in and help each other. I liked that so many of the town's people, including Jack's family, were supportive of their growing relationship and helped it along as best they could. I loved getting to know so many of the side characters and would love to come back for another story in this town in the future. I have my hopes up for at least a couple of books, including one with Jack's brother.

Aaron Edwards finds himself at a last chance gas station in Aqua Vista and it leads to one unforgettable hot hook up. It was so unforgettable that Aaron heads back there for a bit of vacation and a business proposition. He is a charismatic businessman from San Jose and is finding the small town quirky and charming.

Jack McCoy is from a local family with history deeply entrenched in Aqua Vista with both bad and good memories. He is a bit grumpy, untrusting, closed off, sentimental, and loyal. But he can also be bossy and sweet when the moment calls for it. Even though he liked the idea of seeing Aaron again, he is not interested in selling.

As these two share new adventures, hot times, special moments, and get to know each other it is all supposed to be temporary because their lives do not mesh. But they also begin to inspire each other to maybe reach for more fulfillment and passion in their lives that seemed mapped out.

This is a low angst, sweet and spicy, opposites-attract, city boy-small town romance about trust, healing, and new possibilities. I love the quirky, nosy family and townies. I am looking forward to his brother Johnny's book.

It's been too long since I've picked up a book by this author and I regret not reading this sooner. Jack and Aaron live completely different lives. One a small business owner and resident of a small town where everyone knows everybody, the other a big city property investor. Neither was actively looking for love, in fact Jack was avoiding it completely, but a chance meeting when Aaron's car broke down threw a wrench in those plans.

I really enjoyed how Jack and Aaron's romance played out. How their one time hook-up both stayed with them for weeks after. Aaron deciding to make his way back to the quaint town of Aqua Vista with the excuse of offering to buy Jack's business. I truly believe his heart wasn't in it for the sale, but the opportunity to get his eyes on Jack once again. I think a lot of the residents thought so too, as they all seemed to welcome Aaron back like he belonged there with them. Their interactions with the residents were some of my favorite moments from the book. That and the steam 🔥🔥.

"𝙸 𝚍𝚒𝚍𝚗'𝚝 𝚎𝚟𝚎𝚗 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝙸 𝚠𝚊𝚜 𝚠𝚒𝚜𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚜𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚕𝚒𝚔𝚎 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚞𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚕 𝙸 𝚊𝚕𝚖𝚘𝚜𝚝 𝚛𝚊𝚗 𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚘𝚏 𝚐𝚊𝚜 𝚘𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚑𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚠𝚊𝚢."

There was a lot to love about Aqua Vista and its inhabitants. I'm happy that Jack's brother Johnny and his estranged husband appear to be next. We don't get much info about them in this book, not even Johnny's husband's name. Just that the two are separated and Johnny seems to have never truly gotten over it. I won't lie, I'm also hoping that Rocco and Frank's blossoming bromance may turn into something more in the future too. Anything is possible in Aqua Vista!

I love a small town romance. I really loved that this small town is a fictional enclave on the California coast. I spent 10 years living in Northern California and through my travels have seen similar little towns.

Aaron and Jack are the main characters in the book, but I hazard to say the town of Aqua Vista is a character as well. Artsy, quirky, families that go back generations and residents who are fiercely loyal to their town and keeping it the way it is.

Of course Aaron stumbles on the town when his car needs service and being a real estate developer, can't help but see dollar signs. Jack, who owns the service station, shuts him down quickly.

And while Jack and Aaron play a bit of cat and mouse with each other, Aaron's business partner wants him to tighten the screws and get Jack to sell. But after spending time in the town, and with Jack, Aaron knows it'll never happen.

There's heartache in the town as well. Jack's parents and brother in law were lost at sea and presumed dead a few years ago. They were a huge presence in the town and their loss is felt by many.

I really enjoyed having a story with more mature, grown men as the focus. The older I get, the older I want the leading men to get. They are only in their 30's, if I recall correctly, but there is wisdom in years. With that maturity and wisdom comes no silly fights, no ultimatums, no generated drama for drama's sake.

There were obstacles to overcome, but the author didn't take the easy way out. Instead, well thought out decisions by the characters were made.

And since this is book 1, I cannot wait to revisit Aqua Vista for book 2.

Love comes unexpectedly (an audio review)

I love Christina Lee’s uncomplicated romances. Just two guys, maybe a bit of angst, and lots of love. Jack and Aaron’s book delivered exactly what I was looking for.

Aaron’s about to run out of gas and his check engine light is on.

Jack happens to own the only service station around for miles.

So it’s pretty clear Aaron needs Jack’s help. But things get interesting with just how helpful Jack is. Then Aaron’s car is fixed, and he heads back home.

Only he’s not done with Aqua Vista or Jack just yet. Aaron works in real estate, and he sees the service station’s potential. So, he wants Jack to sell. Jack sees his parents’ legacy and isn’t interested – even though he never saw himself running it. The tragic loss of his parents and brother-in-law has profoundly impacted his life. He’s left helping his sister and nephew. He’s tied to Aqua Vista and the service station.

He tried a relationship with an out of towner, and that ended badly. So as much as he wants Aaron, he’s not getting involved.

Except they keep spending time with each other. Including one magical night on the beach. Aaron’s getting to know the people around town – but Jack’s convinced it’s a ruse.

But what if it isn’t?

Anyway, through in small town magic, quirky residents, and a fantastic ending, and you’ve got a great story. Simple and easy. A fantastic love story for two great guys.

I can’t wait to listen to more Aqua Vista books! And Nick J. Russo did a great job narrating. He’s a favorite of mine and he was wonderful. I can highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed this heart-warming, low-angst MM love story. Jack and Aaron meet by chance when Aaron almost runs out of gas before finding the small town of Aqua Vista and the only gas station for miles. Jack is the owner of the station, which was left to him by his parents (sad story you find out about later). Both men are gay, and the attraction between them is instant. A hook-up results, but neither can forget the other, even after Aaron goes home. Aaron returns to Aqua Vista with an offer to purchase Jack's property, causing some animosity and misunderstanding. As Aaron learns more about Aqua Vista and it's residents, he falls in love with the town as much as does Jack, but Aaron's life is in the big city, and Jack has been hurt before.

This is a wonderful, fun, low-angst story. I loved the various (related) residents of Aqua Vista and how they all supported each other, especially is tough times. This is more than a love story, though. There are secondary themes of redemption and forgiveness, doing what you love, and believing in yourself. Aaron's business partner rubbed me the wrong way for most of the story, so I hope we learn more about him in a future book, and that maybe he'll turn out to be less of a jerk.

The narration by Nick Russo is fantastic. He really captures the personalities and emotions of all the characters.

I received a free copy of the audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Performance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️️
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you like small-town romances, you've come to the right place. This is not the first book by the author that I have read or listened to. I love Christina Lee's writing style and was therefore able to immerse myself in the story very quickly.
Aaron is a typical city dweller who I immediately liked. He is cheerful and open-minded. When his car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, he realizes that Jack is the only service station and garage for miles around. Jack is the exact opposite of him, he is grumpy and rather introverted. And he has every reason to be, as he is still struggling with the loss of his parents.
When Jack drives Aaron from the service station to a hotel, a hot night unexpectedly ensues. The attraction between the two is palpable, but Jack categorically rejects a long-distance relationship. And so it seems that this will be their only hot encounter. But then Aaron reappears, having succumbed to the charms of the small town where Jack lives.
The characters are likeable, I liked the small town and its inhabitants and it was nice how the initial attraction between Aaron and Jack turned into a real connection. There is some drama, but also hot romance.

This heartwarming romance novel was fantastically narrated by Nick J. Russo. He brought the protagonists to life with great emotion and appropriate voices and moods. It was a pleasure to listen to him.

SMALL TOWN GRUMPY/SUNSHINE LOVE!💕

🎞️ Grumpy Garage owner
🪚 Sunshiny business man
🔥 Hot Chemistry
👬 Surprising Dynamic
🫶🏻 Close Knit Community

I loved the small town community that the author created with these characters in mind- one a business man city dweller- Aaron Edward’s and the other- Jack McCoy a garage and service station owner and hobby photographer among other things…

Their meet cute didn’t start off on the right foot but it sure ended in the right bed time and time again, which was ice melting hot! 🔥

“I didn’t even know I was wishing for someone like you until I almost ran out of gas on the highway.”

I loved how the community helped each other, stood together in trying times (with a town that is allegedly cursed) and always knew each other’s business but in a good way…

Surprising bromances forms with surprising characters, surprising hobbies arise with new found family and extended family vibes that will endear!

Jack found his muse in Aaron among other things but Aaron is only a fling and will never leave San Jose right?
Will long distance work?… Jack was burned before…

Aaron found a place and community where he felt at home and a love connection he never expected…

The supporting side characters will form part of the series with each character finding their perfect happiness…

Next up- Johnny McCoy…

I voluntarily received an ARC from GRR for an honest non biased review.

What a wonderful start to a new series! I'm already eagerly awaiting the next book and thinking who it might be and possible tropes/relationships involved.
Aaron and Jack's story is fairly low angst but there is an element of grief regarding Jack's loss of his parents and brother in law several years previously, and Aaron stirs that up by asking to buy the business that Jack runs that belonged to his parents.
Aaron is very taken with Aqua Vista. The people are welcoming, friendly although every so slightly nosy. It's quirky and has a unique charm but it's biggest draw is the grumpy garage owner/photographer. The two men have a great chemistry and there is clearly something there but Jack has been hurt in the past by someone from out of town and Aaron was only staying a couple of days. Well, plans change and so do hearts.
It's a sweet, emotional ride for both men as they consider their pasts and their futures, both for themselves and possibly each other. The community of Aqua Vista has an impact, especially on Aaron, as he's not used to it being from the city. Jack is with several of them being his family but it's clear how much they love each other and their bonds are even stronger since experiencing loss.
A highly recommended read and I can't wait for the next book of the series.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Just Jack was my first read by Christina Lee and the story and every characters in the book lived up to the expectations. Reading about Jack’s past was heartbreaking and it was understandable why he had trust issues and was so grumpy. Aaron, the outgoing and social butterfly was exactly what Jack needed. Aaron understands Jack, patiently waits for Jack to open up while sharing bits about himself, provides a safe place for Jack to be vulnerable and express his emotions and brings peace and genuine happiness to Jack’s life. In return Aaron finds a beautiful family in Jack’s family, rediscovers his passion for life and finds solace in the small coastal town of Aqua Vista. Aaron is a Giant Green Flag and for sure what Jack needed in his life. They compliment and complete each other and brings out best version in one another. Christina has done superb job at showcasing wide range of emotions like grief, hurt, love, lust, empathy, loneliness etc. Her portrayal of Aqua Vista is so scenic and beautiful. I am very happy to add Just Jack to my ever growing list of MM Romance and would recommend it if you like reading MM Romance.

This story starts with what’s basically a one night stand/casual hook up, but despite that the relationship between the two main characters never feels impersonal. Jack is the broody - and sometimes grumpy - owner of the small town service station and Aaron is just passing through until he gets stuck overnight with car trouble.
Despite getting turned down when he comes back to try and buy Jack’s business a couple of months later, Aaron stays for a couple of weeks holiday and a tentative friendship and relationship develops, although both agree there is an end date - and Jack has been burned by long distance before.
The town and people of Aqua Vista is what made this book for me. Everyone knows everyone else’s business so there is no chance of keeping anything secret, living in a small village I could relate!
I liked that there was no late break up over a misunderstanding just for a plot device in the book, it was just two men who knew how they felt about each other but had to see if they could come up with a way to be together. It was a sweet cosy romance and I’m looking forward to seeing more of the town in the next book - I know it’s Johnny up next but I hope we are also building up to a Frank & Rocco romance too.

Christina Lee's new series is off to a fantastic start.

The chemistry between Aaron and Jack starts off with a bang (literally 😉) and it just grows from there. I read this in one sitting (lying... down in bed) because I couldn't get enough of these two.

Jack's held onto a painful past for such a long time and feels stuck, stagnant. His muse has left him, meaning he only has his family and his middle-of-nowhere gas station.

Aaron isn't really a relationship kinda guy (not that Jack is, either) and he's fallen out of love with his job after its evolution into something it didn't start out as. However, on his way back from a trip, his car needing to be serviced is the best thing to happen to either man.

Jack and Aaron's banter was fun, their personal growth authentic, and their love story beautiful.

I can't wait for Book 2!

Just Jack is a small town MM romance and is a great start to the Aqua Vista series.

This was my first time reading a small town romance but i can definitely say the story of Jack, Aaron and the Aqua Vista town was one I really enjoyed.

The way Jack and Aaron first met, to having that random hook up, shows the very obvious attraction they had for each other and was such a good start to this book.
The story developed so well, by outlining Jack’s tragic past, his trust issues caused by a previous failed relationship, Aaron’s instant pull to not only Aqua Vista but Jack as well, the thoughts they both have regarding changes in their careers, as well as the way their relationship builds from a steamy hookup into one that is full of love, lust and trust.

I loved Jack’s family members and the other towns characters included in this story, the detailed way in which the town and its people was written, was a great addition and really pulled you into the story, giving you those small town feels.

This was a good, easy read and I really can’t wait to see whose story from the Aqua Vista family we will be following in book #2 of the series!
