Menopause: What Your OB-GYN Wants You to Know by ACOG is a clear, trustworthy, and practical resource for understanding menopause without the hype or fear-based messaging that often surrounds this topic. I appreciated the straightforward, evidence-based explanations of symptoms and treatment options, including hormone therapy, lifestyle changes, and non-hormonal approaches.

What stood out most to me was the balanced tone. The book doesn’t push one solution, but instead encourages informed conversations with your doctor and individualized care. It validates the real challenges of menopause while remaining reassuring and grounded in medical science.

This is an excellent guide for women who want reliable information and realistic expectations. I found it empowering, calming, and especially helpful for cutting through misinformation and helping me feel more confident navigating this stage of life.

Thank you American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I feel this book was a good overview of perimenopause, menopause, and life post menopause. It is from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists who write the guidelines that ob-gyns follow, so it’s accurate and up to date (copyright 2026). It did a good job of explaining the symptoms and why they are happening and the treatment options as well. It covers not just hot flashes and night sweats but abnormal bleeding, mood and memory, sleep problems, sexual health, vaginal and vulvar concerns, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and bone health. It discusses hormonal and non hormonal treatment options. It finished off with chapters on staying healthy in menopause and beyond including continuing your health screenings and what needs to be done when and how often. It points you to “talk to your OB/GYN” multiple times in every chapter. The only thing about it that I didn’t agree with/rubbed me the wrong way is in the section on choosing your menopause care team they talked about all the gyn generalists and specialists, then they included other doctors and healthcare professionals like PCPs (primary care doctors), endocrinologists, sleep specialists, mental health specialists, dietitians, dermatologists, physical therapists, and NPs (nurse practitioners) but did not mention PAs (physician assistants/physician associates) who work in women’s health with OB/GYNs or with PCPs or in almost all of the specialties mentioned.

If you are going to read just *one* book about menopause, this should be the one.

"Menopause: What Your Ob-Gyn Wants You to Know" stands out for its clarity, credibility, and refreshingly evidence-based approach. In a world crowded with influencers, supplements, and expensive “solutions” designed more to sell than to help, this book cuts through the noise. The information here is practical, current, and grounded in medical consensus rather than hype or fear.

What I appreciated most is how straightforward and reassuring this book is. It explains what’s happening in the body, what symptoms are common (and what isn’t), and what treatment options actually have solid research behind them. It neither minimizes menopause nor sensationalizes it. Instead, it treats readers like intelligent adults who deserve accurate information and realistic choices.

This is the kind of reference book you’ll want to return to, not skim once and forget. I plan to purchase it on Kindle so I can keep it on hand, because digital ARCs eventually go bye-bye—and this one is worth owning.

Highly recommended for anyone navigating perimenopause or menopause, or for anyone who wants a reliable, no-nonsense resource they can actually trust.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read a digital ARC of this book so that I could read and review.

I had been looking for a good place to start in terms of researching menopause, and I think this book fits that description. I did read it from cover to cover but it would be easy to just read whatever section is of particular interest. It’s organized in a logical way that would make section reading easy. Each chapter has resources at the end that are specific to the chapter.
I like to acknowledge I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher ACOG. This review is my honest opinion.

This was a very informative and helpful read. It provides evidence-based information about menopause, including symptoms, what’s happening to the body, and different treatment options available.

I especially appreciated how straightforward and educational it was without feeling overwhelming. This feels less like a book you read once and more like a solid reference guide you can come back to whenever questions pop up during the menopause journey.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
