Having encountered numerous ghosts, Rebecca and Jonathan Pearson finally set out to tackle a case together. And when they learn of the supposed haunting of a nearby pub, they think they've found the perfect location... but they have no idea that they're about to experience their most terrifying case yet.
For hundreds of years, The Saracen's Head has been a quiet back-street pub in a quaint little English town. Rumors persist, however, that some of the old regulars have never quite left the building. A young boy is sometimes seen standing at the front door, and a ghostly woman dressed all in black has occasionally been spotted in the rooms upstairs. As far as the current landlord is concerned, the dead have unfinished business.
As they get to work, however, Rebecca and Jonathan soon discover that they have very different ideas about how to proceed – and about the causes of the haunting in the first place. Before long, however, they realize that this particular case has its roots in a tragedy that happened many years earlier, and that the effects of this tragedy are still being felt today. Can they put things right, or will the ghost of The Saracen's Head claim another victim?
The Haunting of the Saracen's Head is the fifth book in the Ghosts of Rose Radcliffe series, about a team of paranormal investigators and their encounters with the supernatural. Each book tells a standalone story but readers are advised to read them in order.
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
I really enjoyed this book! the plot of this one was very well done! I liked seeing things from all the different characters' perspectives it really adds to the story. this one really adds a lot to the seires! the atmosphere in this book was spot on, plenty of moments to keep you guessing what's going to happen next. the plot overall was an interesting one, definitely one of my favourites, so far!
I will always be a Jonathan hater. His character really just gets to me.. all I can think is how much of a dick he is. He seems like he wants to be right all the time....
anyways, the story was brilliant, well written, and extremely enjoyable! 3.5/5
I kept waiting for the series to deliver on the early promise, but it hasn't. Instead, the details that bugged me are getting to me.
Little things - like the number of times characters stumble over the loose flooring (surprise - that's where the body is!) Spoiler alert? It was obvious to me the first time it happened, especially since the previous volume did the same thing.
Big things - like Jonathan, the husband/father. Did Amy mean for him to be such a smug closed-minded overbearing asshole? Because that's who he comes across as. As far as I'm concerned, he's the worst character in the series - not the vengeful ghosts or demons.
Finally, the series starts with a story that takes place after every other volume in the series (so far, anyway). So, we start off with spoilers... And though Rose is the title character for the series, she remains a secondary character. This book reinforces that secondary role by literally referring to her as a detection gadget at one point.
I have the next book in the series, but I don't expect to read it.
The Haunting of the Saracen’s Head is an eerie and atmospheric ghost story that delivers everything a classic haunting tale should. Set in an old English inn steeped in dark history, the book slowly builds tension with each unsettling discovery and whisper from the past. The author does a great job of blending historical mystery with supernatural chills, making the story feel both believable and deeply haunting.
I'm not good at titles, but I sure can tell you this is an awesome story, and the series is hauntingly excellent. A mother's grief is strong, even in death. Johnathan and Rebecca are doing the best they can with the help of 11 year old Rose. Alisa their daughter throws in once in a while.
I just can’t stop reading Amy Cross books!! Saracen’s Head in another winner in her Rose Radcliffe series (actually ALL of her series books are great!). What I love most about Amy’s writing is she combines the paranormal/ghostly/haunting themes with a great mystery that keeps you on the edge of your chair to the end. Please keep writing, Amy!!
