When I wake up in a strange place with no memory of how I got there or where I am I run as far as my weak body will allow. Crumbling building of an old city can help or hinder me as I run from monsters I thought were only the works of someone's imagination. When a voice scares them away I have no choice, but to let them help me. They get me safe and reveal shocking truths about a past that I can't wholly remember. I know the missing pieces of my past are the key to all of my questions, but do I truly want to remember what is blocked? Together with my rescuer and the small band of friends to help us along the way we set out to right the wrongs against those that have caused so much harm.
I don’t even know where to begin. At the beginning you think you have the lay of where the story will go. And boy does Worrell take you on an epic journey.
From the beginning I was invested in Leah & Tabby’s survival. As the story develops you’re given so many bread crumbs and a mystery to unravel.
I love the found family, fallout vibes, the survival information that was given, and the way the author wove in so many details that were hints but also misdirections that kept you on your toes. This is one of those reads that will have you itching to get to the next chapter.
The pacing is great, the characters are phenomenal and strong. The FMC’s are not whiny! They do what needs to be done and push through the pain and horrible things happening. All because their family is the most important thing and it’s them vs the world.
When I say I am so glad I have book 2 in my hands I mean that. I cannot wait to finish this series and see where it goes.
If you love cowgirl elements that feel lived, trauma, healing, strong FMC’s, found family, apocalyptic worlds, fallout, or dystopian vibes… this. Is. For. You.
This book pulls you into a dystopian world that is scary enough close to what could happen today. Leah escapes from a pod that she was being held in and starts running, no plan is sight just to escape the building she is in. Once she steps into the world, there are bigger hurdles for her to face, creatures that aren't entirely human, animals that are bigger then she remembers. She hides in a drain hoping the creatures leave and is rescued by a ghoul who ends up being her sister. Over three hundred years have passed since Leah was taken , the world doesn't look the same as before. Leah needs to get stronger and try to access the memories that are lost to her , while trying to come to grips with the amount of time passing and the face her sister is still alive. The trek that Leah and Tabby take you on show the strong survival instinct, familial bond and the internal code that we all have in us to live by.
Sooo I anit gonna lie at first I was super confused.. but I asked worrell a few questions and she cleared the air and set me back into the right direction and after she did that the story just hit... First of all the female characters are not weak she writes very strong female characters and that I adore.. the. You have Boone who at first I didn't like but he grew on me.. And during their whole adventure a little bit of Leah's past leaks out and your like omg wow.. this book does end on a cliffhanger and you better have book 2 next to you when you finish cause ur gonna wanna read it as soon as possible to follow their journey
At first I wasn’t really into this book because it just didn’t seem to grab my attention but then it got better and keeps you guessing and on your toes. It’s a thriller/mystery that I really enjoyed.
