I’m a jock-next-door from Tennessee, and he’s a city boy running from his past.
But I need a fake boyfriend this Christmas… and now he’s in my bed.

I’m only good at two sports and holiday spirit. But this Christmas feels different, even though I should have everything I want. My family’s bugging me again about why I’m still single, and I’m getting desperate.

Rowen’s nothing like me. He’s smart, accomplished, and back in Tennessee from the city—not by choice. Even though he’s straight, he agrees to be my fake boyfriend for my family’s Christmas party.

He says I’m hot and could have any guy I want, but I don’t get it. I’m just muscle with a reindeer sweater on top.

…But he wants me to teach him.

About being with a man.

Who could resist a gift like that?

***

Fake It for Christmas is a novella, about half the length of my usual books (appx 36,000 words), and packed with all of the good stuff. It's full of wintertime magic, twinkly lights, and two guys who are absolute fire when they're together.

Tis the Christmas season! A Christmas Novella sprinkled with the magic of Christmas all through out.

Shane is desperate to win the Fixer Brothers Home Renovation Contest: Couples Edition! His house is a fixer upper.
Only problem is … he’s definitely single.

Rowen is an actor hiding out with his secrets in Tennessee. He impulsively agrees to be Shane’s Fake Boyfriend for the contest audition tape.

They also agree Rowan will be his fake boyfriend for Shane’s family’s Christmas party.

Obviously all this fake boyfriend business needs some practising with very real kissing . Rowan thought he was straight but has had bi curiosity thoughts before .

“I am sucking dick. Sucking. Dick. And it’s… really fucking fun? “Holy fuck,” he whispered. “

Shane and Rowan are drawn to each other and eventually open up about each others secrets. They like each other and I’m not sure what’s holding them back from moving ahead into a real relationship.

“There were so many things I wanted to say to him. I love this. I want more. Is any of this for real?”

Communication boys!! I thought the reason they didn’t come together sooner was frustrating and easily solved as evidenced by the ending.

This book is a cute holiday romance. I would’ve really liked to have seen them on the show itself but I guess that wasn’t the point of the story.

Honourable mention goes towards mentioning Duck Butt. Only because my teenager printed out this duck butt Gif , stuck it on her wardrobe and it’s been cracking us all up - especially the four year old. So it was incredibly random to just stumble upon this in the book.

“Well, what did it say?” Mariel asked. “It just said two words: duck butt. Duck. Butt. It’s not even that funny, but I couldn’t stop myself laughing at that.” “Duck butt!” a kid across the room shouted out.

I loved this - Shane's sweet and slightly self-deprecating manner, Rowen's need to act the part of Shane's boyfriend, first for TV then for everyone... and the growing attraction between them... this was a fun and steamy Christmas novella with just enough tie in to the Fixer Brothers series, but without it being set in their usual world...

I found it a quick and easy read that made me smile and root for Rowen & Shane's holiday HEA.

As always, these books from the universe of the Fixer brothers are always a warmth in the soul. This new book is Christmas sweet; Shane and Rowen pretend to be boyfriends so Shane can compete for the makeover of the house inherited from his late grandmother. Rowen, an actor who falls out of favor due to her parents' embezzlement, takes refuge in her grandparents' house. A chance encounter leads Rowen to decide to help Shane because the makeover candidate implies that they are a couple.
The attraction between the 2 is huge and what starts out as almost an acting on the part of Rowen turns into something more.
I love this book

Great addition to the series! The author brings strong characters in Shane and Rowen and weaves a cute fake dating to love romance. He moves the story quickly and smoothly with his descriptive scenes and delivers a sweet Christmas romance.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and are freely given.

3.5 stars, rounding up, as this book kept me very entertained in the moment. It didn't exactly add up when I finished it and looked back, but I can't be mad at it. I do think this concept might have been better in a full length book, to give the contest aspect more room to breathe, but it was diverting.

I always seem to read a pile of merry novellas in December, and this one made me smile (not all of them do!) It also made me go back and pick up the previous two books in the series, which I had missed.

Thanks to GRR for the review copy

Fake it for Christmas by Raleigh Reubins is a delightful, heartwarming addition to the Fixer Brothers series that perfectly captures the charm of a holiday romance. This book is packed with humour, heartfelt moments, and just the right amount of festive cheer to make it an irresistible read.

Shane is a sweet, down-to-earth guy who’s been following the Fixer Brothers show religiously. When the brothers put out a call for a house in need of a makeover for their next couple’s episode, Shane knows his fixer-upper is perfect—if only he had a boyfriend to complete the application. Enter Rowan, a struggling actor who’s back in town after his parents' legal scandal derailed his career. The two meet in a bar, and after some mutual sparks and a crazy idea, they hatch a plan: pretend to be boyfriends, audition for the show, and make their holiday dreams come true.

As Shane and Rowan fake their way through coupledom, their connection quickly deepens. Rowan starts to see Shane as more than just a means to rebuild his reputation, while Shane finds himself falling for Rowan’s charm and vulnerability. The chemistry between them is electric, and the slow unraveling of their fake relationship into something real is both touching and satisfying.

The story takes a turn when Rowan’s past threatens to upend their budding romance. The weight of his parents’ scandal hangs over him, and he’s unsure if Shane can look past the baggage. But when Rowan finally opens up, Shane’s unwavering acceptance and love shine through, showcasing the book’s beautiful message about seeing and loving someone for who they truly are.

Adding to the charm is Shane’s large, chaotic family, who bring plenty of humour and warmth to the story. Their Christmas celebrations are a highlight, filled with lively traditions and moments that make Rowan realise just how much he’s come to treasure Shane and the life they’re building together.

With its cosy holiday vibes, swoon-worthy romance, and lovable characters, Fake it for Christmas is a must-read for fans of the series and anyone who enjoys fake-dating tropes with a festive twist. Raleigh Reubins delivers another winner with this feel-good tale of love, redemption, and finding home where you least expect it.

Raleigh Ruebins has created a real community with the Fixer Brothers Construction and the world around them.

In this Christmas offering, there's a chance to have couples apply to be on the Fixer Brothers' television show. Shane, a single but very popular guy in rural Tennessee wants to apply because it's his favorite show, and he has an old house that needs the work. Enter Rowan who happens to be in the same town having fled New York because his parents are in jail for embezzlement and tax fraud, and he, having the same last name, now can't get work as an actor because of the anger directed at his parents' academy, where he had also taught, but was unaware of what his parents were doing with the money.

Rowan agrees to help Shane make a video for submission to the Fixer Brothers, and through many interactions, truly falls in love with him. He agrees to be his fake boyfriend for the annual Christmas gathering his parents host. Through adventures and interactions, the two are more connected, and this delightful story endears them to each other and to the community.

The conflicts with Rowan and those affected by his parents' actions are the negatives in the room and in his life. And his living with the shame of who they are, and what they did, weighs heavily on him. And that he's come to live with his grandparents is a relief, but their support is not the emotional support he needs. Shane makes many attempts to show him that support, but without the backstory, it was difficult.

It's a great story and I hope Raleigh Ruebins continues at least some of it in the next two books in this series.

There are so many quirky characters that Ruebins has created around the Fixer Brothers. Each book is yet another fulfilling of our joy in reading the adventures of these unique, and mostly gay, men and their community.

It's a week until Christmas, so I'm pulling out the Christmas novels and novellas. This one just released, and I LOVE the Fixer Brothers and this author, so I figured why not? It's technically a novella but I'm still counting it.

Shane lives in small town Tennessee, and he has just found out that the Fixer Brothers, his favorite home renovation TV show, is looking for a new project and a couple to be on an episode. Shane has the perfect fixer upper house for the job, but all he's missing is a boyfriend.

Shane heads out to the local bar to try to find a date, and he meets Rowen. Rowen is a NYC resident in Tennessee for Christmas with his grandparents. He hasn't told anyone, but the reason he left New York was because his parents got arrested for tax fraud, embezzlement, the whole lot. Now, Rowen's name is tarnished as an actor and he's afraid he'll never work again.

Rowen is instantly drawn to Shane, although he's never been with a man before. After hearing his story, Rowen decides to pose as his fake boyfriend for the show.

Shane is thrilled, and they get started on their submission video. They didn't expect things to feel so natural, so good, so comforting pretending to be together. Rowen loves how kind and caring Shane is, and Shane can hardly believe someone as cool as Rowen wants to spend time with him. But they both know there's an expiration date to his "relationship"...or is there?

This one has exactly what I wanted in a Christmas book: holiday fun, twinkling lights, crazy relatives, and two gorgeous and sweet guys falling in love. SO cozy.

Rowen has run away from New York City to his grandparents in nowhere Tennessee because of shame. He didn’t do anything, but guilt by association goes a long way. It destroyed his career, losing his job as an acting coach and the possibility of getting an acting job. There was nothing left. Hiding for a few months was the answer. Then, he would go back and figure out his next steps.

Shane loved Christmas, even if he was a little lonely. He loved the Fixer Brothers almost as much, and the opportunity to win a renovation from them was almost too much to hope for. The fact it was the couple’s edition of the show was just a little bump he had to overcome.

When he finds someone to fill the position for the Fixer Brothers video, he is excited he might get considered. Shane accidentally tells his family he has a boyfriend and he is bringing to the Holiday Party. Good thing he knows an actor.

OPINION: I love the Fixer Brothers series and read this for that reason. Honestly, I don’t like holiday-specific books, and I tend to avoid novella’s, and this is both. Neither mattered because I liked it. Every character in these books is great and these two didn’t disappoint. I would have been just as happy reading more about them, but the story gave me a great holiday feel without it being over the top, plus a wonderful love story and HEA. There is a lot of story shoved into a few words, and like all the books in this series, I couldn’t put it down because I was drawn to them. If you like Christmas, this is a nice story in that category. If you like the Fixer Brothers, this is very much the periphery of the show, but it is still a nice little story in that world.

Super cute
Firstly, let me say I got this book from gay romance reviews, and this is me leaving my honest review.
And I have read four books out of this series. Sadly I didn’t find this author until book 5, but let me tell you I have thoroughly enjoyed every book and this book is no different. I actually enjoy the shorter reads the author managed to pack a punch with feelings and back stories and mostly connection. I couldn’t put this book down. I found the connection that these two had adorable. Shane is so excited when he finds out that the fixer Brothers show is looking for people/properties for there new series. Shane lives in his grandma’s house, who he has such fond memories of, but the house is in desperate need of some work doing. So he decides he’s gonna apply but he has a problem. The new series is for couples and he is very much single. So he plans to find a man and ask him to be his fake boyfriend.
Rowan thought his life was so good, helping his parents in an acting school, being actor, but what his parents had done. Had put shame on the family name. And by association that put Rowan in a very difficult spot. So he decided to go to Tennessee , and this is where he meets Shane. There is an instant feeling between them and Rowan as the good actor that he is says to Shane that he will pretend to be his fake boyfriend so he can get a chance to be on his favourite show. But of course that instant attraction builds. I just felt my heart singing whilst reading this book. But do these two even have a chance of making a new series??

Shane is a single gay man whose home is in need of repairs. His favorite show is the Fixer Brothers and when he see they have a contest he wants nothing more than to apply for the show. However he eventually sees it is a couples contest and he is single. He needs to come up with a plan to film a 5 min video of why he and his partner are perfect for the renovation. He heads to the bar to ponder what to do.

Rowen was shooting pool with a friend from the theater when he sees a sad guy at the bar. He decides to ask him about playing a round with him. Rowen is staying in Tennessee with his grandparents because his world in New York fell apart due to the actions of his parents. So since he can not work on Broadway he is doing local theater. Hearing about what Shane needs Rowen agrees to film the spot and hope for the best with the show.

Will Rowen and Shane have a good time filming the spot? Will it work to get them to the second round? Will this be the beginning of something more? Does Shane's sweetness pull Rowen in? Will Rowen finally tell Shane his secret? Does the secret matter to Shane? Will Rowen head back to New York or stay in Tennessee? Will they win the contest?

This one was sweet, I hope we get the rest of their story in the series!

I loved it!

This book is amazing! I love the Fixer Brothers series and this holiday tale fits right it! The brothers are looking for a house to feature in a couple’s episode and Shane just loves their show and has a house that needs quite a bit of love. Now if he just had the boyfriend. Enter Rowan. Back in town after his parents get caught doing some not so legal things, trying to rebuild his acting career. He meets Shane in a bar one night and there is no turning back once he approaches him. Soon the two are fake boyfriends and auditioning for the show. But the feelings don’t stay fake for long and Rowan finds himself loving every minute he spends with Shane. It will take him time to reveal the truth to Shane but when he does, Rowan finds that Shane still sees him for who he truly is not the scandal caused by his parents. When he finds himself truly enjoying himself at Shane’s family Christmas party, he realizes his feelings are anything but fake. Good thing Shane feels the same! It’s a wonderful tale and when you add in Shane’s rather large and chaotic family, you get a story that is an absolute must read!

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Okay, I admit it. I haven't read any of the other books, but the blurb grabbed me and now I'm adding MORE books that I just have to read on my TBR list.
Like Shane, I am a renovation show addict. I'll rewatch episodes over and over, although I don't quite deep dive into show host socials. His favorite show, The Fixer Brothers, is offering a house renovating contest. And Shane's house is perfect. But the show needs to feature a couple. And Shane is partnerless.
Rowen is in Tennessee, living with his grandparents. Temporarily. He left a terrible situation in NYC. A teacher at his family's famous acting school, he lost it all when his parents scammed the students and embezzled funds. All without his knowledge.
They agree on a fake boyfriend relationship. Which morphs into some sweet steam. There's lots of angst as both realize they want it all. Real boyfriends, real relationship. With each other.
I'm glad that I added this book to my ARC list. Going to have to take a gander at the rest of Raleigh Ruebins' books.
A fun, quick Christmas story. Only a bit of angst.
I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.

Aww! Shane and Rowen are delightful. Shane is kindness personified. He’s got a little bit of an inferiority complex—just enough to make him lack confidence and not believe that someone like Rowen could truly want to be with him. But Rowan, who’s been mostly straight his whole life, finds Shane to be utterly adorable. He recognizes that Shane has no idea how charming he is. But he is drawn to Shane as if he were a magnet and Shane were iron. Rowan has his own issues, secrets he carrying because he’s afraid of the new people he’s met since he moved to Tennessee (especially Shane) looking at him differently and judging him if they knew. But Shane and Rowen have so much fun together and feel so comfortable with each other that they can’t help falling for one another. I like that even though it takes a few tries, they’re ultimately good communicators.

The weakest part of the story are the side characters. No one else in the story has much personality besides the leads, which is mostly okay because this is a novella, so there isn’t much space for them to play bigger roles. I do love Shane’s love for his grandmother, though. Very sweet.

Very cute short Christmas story, portraying two sweet men who seem opposite, and who fake a relationship.

Shane is from a small town in Tennessee, working as a clerk in the local inn, who inherited her grandmother's house that needs a renovation but Shane does not have the money to do it, and his favorite renovation show is opening a couple competition.... but it's for couples and Shane is single. Rowen, comes from money, is an actor in New York, but he is hiding in Tennessee after his parents are convicted after scamming a lot of parents and actors in their acting school.
They meet in a bar and Rowen offers Shane to be his fake boyfriend to submit the application. As they spend time together they feel attracted to each other, but Rowen is straight, and hiding his big secret....
The story is sweet, it's an entertaining and quick read.

This is the first book I read from this author and while is part of a series, it can completely be read as a standalone

Fake It for Christmas by Raleigh Ruebins takes some fun tropes - rich vs. poor, sad backstory, fake boyfriend, interfering family, and more - and makes something new with them in this book. At first I wasn’t sure if I would like Rowen, the rich boy, but he turned out to be a nice guy behind his NYC facade. The author gave some hints this was the case, but it was rewarding to see it come forth. And Shane, the poor boy, has some hidden strengths that also came to light during their fake relationship. At first I did not see the Fixer Brothers connection except for their TV show being Shane’s favorite. Since the blurb does not give that away, I will leave it as an entertaining part of the book. I’ve been fortunate enough to have read all the Fixer Brothers books and was not sure where the author could go next with the series. Suffice it to say, they have me hooked on the new direction. I received a free advance readers copy of the book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Shane & Rowen
A cute little holiday novella in the Fixer Brothers universe! I love that we get the chance to step out of the regular Colorado setting for once, even though we're not given too many details about the area in Tennessee where the guys live.

Shane & Rowen had such a cute building relationship, despite the fact that they both generally thought they were faking it. It certainly didn't take long for them to come to terms with their feelings. It was a really sweet read, and even though we're only given a glimpse of the brothers, Shawn & Nathan, it's always fun to step into an established story universe.

I loved the quick read of Fake It for Christmas! It's an entertaining and charming holiday read with low angst and loving family fun!

I enjoy the Fixer Brothers series very much and I am so glad to have had this holiday novella as part of it. While it is really Fixer Brothers world adjacent, it had just enough tie in to make me feel like I was part of that world again.

This was just a really cute, really sweet novella without being over the top schmaltz. I loved both MCs - Shane and Rowen - and I enjoyed the premise of the audition to be on the Fixer Brothers show, along with the fake dating, the bit of angst, the first times, and the one or two steamy scenes. I think, though, what I enjoyed most was the depth of emotion for such a short book - both the MCs shed a tear or two and so of course, I did as well. Definitely one of my fave holiday reads this year and it's on the shelf again for next year.

Shane and Rowan are different men who each had their reason why being in a fake relationship was just what he needed at this time. Shane is the local boy living in Tennessee who is a huge fan of the Fixer Brothers and really wants to be on the show. But to apply for a fixer upper he has to be in a couple. Rowan is escaping from family drama in New York City. He agrees to be Shane's fake boyfriend but also sees the opportunity to lean into his bisexuality and to explore a bit with Shane. This was such a sweet and spicy holiday romance that featured two guys that were fun to get to know and the fact that it was connected to the Fixer brothers series just made it more enjoyable.

Lead with love, is an amazing saying. Shane, entered a contest for the Fixer Brothers Construction show that reequired him to be part of a couple. He is located in Bestens TN, but the contest was open to all of US. HIs GrandMa's house is old, but has the soul of a loving warm comforting family. As a single man, he had a challenge. Rowen, is hiding out at his GrandParents' place in Bestens shamed by his family's disgrace in NY. He and Shane have a really nice meet cute. Rowen agrees to play Shane's boyfriend for the video submission. Delightful story that embraces and amazing group of friends and family. This is a good story to reread. Totally hot cover art! The plot to this Christmas tale is very timely...a reality show...and the behind the scenes machinations, that a contestant is willing to go to win. Even to the point of arranging for a fake relationship. And that's just in order to even enter.

When you've found the perfect 'fake boyfriend' things could be easy, until your very real family arrives and your 'relationship' needs to look more 'real.'

This is a sweet low angst romance with some bargaining built in!

What wouldn't you do for love and family?

Shane & Rowan

Loved this book! A spinoff of the Fixer Brothers, sort of, leads us to Shane and his house that needs a renovation. Shane’s favorite show is offering a couples edition renovation for an episode. Shane doesn’t have the couple part down but his house definitely needs some TLC. Rowan is back in TN, hiding from his parents’ mistakes and trying to save his reputation since all others see is the sins of his parents. The two forge a fake relationship to help Shane get on the show and Rowan realizes he may like TN and Shane more than he thought. Really enjoyed this book!

A cute and fun holiday romance about Shane who desperately wants to win a competition to be on Fixer Brothers.

Enter Rowen who offers to fake a relationship. Rowen is laying low and licking his wounds after things go awry in New York.

I enjoyed their getting to know each other and falling in love while faking a relationship. It’s a classic trope for a reason, and the Fixer adjacent aspect is cute.

Sweet, sweet fake romance

The Fixer Brothers are only tangentially in this novella. If you just want a cute Christmas novella, it stands alone just fine.

The boys are at that awkward age where you feel like you should be a successful adult, but aren't quite there yet. I love that Shane somehow managed to buy a house, but doesn't have cups. The setup is unusual - needing a fake boyfriend to get on a reality show - and Shane hit the jackpot with Rowan, an actor who has taught acting classes.

Rowan's backstory is a little confusing, but there is low angst conflict and these guys are perfect for each other.

This is a novella from the author’s Fixer Brothers Construction series and I absolutely could not have loved it more!

Shane and Rowen, the MCs, were adorable together and so good for each other. They were each suffering from their own insecurities, and probably a bit from depression too, but a fake boyfriend arrangement brought them both everything they never knew they needed.

This was such an awesome book! It might not have been a full length novel as most of the author’s books are but it had everything necessary to make it into a fully fleshed out book—there was absolutely nothing missing and I. LOVED it!! It deserves every one of these 5 amazing stars!!

Rowen is a disgraced actor - not through any fault of his own - who ends up in Bestens TN and agrees to be the fake boyfriend for Shane who wants to be on a couples episode of the Fixer Brothers. A nice transition from the Fixer Brothers (wow, am I going to miss that series) to a new world by Ruebins, Fake it for Christmas is a cute Christmas novella featuring a fake boyfriend for a family Christmas party, light up overalls (where do I get a set of those?) and a guy who owns two cups, one of which is Lucy from I Love Lucy. For a novella it has a little bit of depth and angst, some finding yourself and finding your person, and a side of spice to boot — perfect for the Christmas season.

This is a short, but sweet novella about Rowen and Shane. Though, it is a Fixer Brothers novella, the company is mainly mentioned with a small cameo. I still loved thia story.

My heart broke for Rowen, who was suffering from his parent's choices. Meeting Shane would seem to be the fresh start he needs to see a new outlook on life.

Shane is desperate to be on the Fixer Brother's Couple edition. The only problem is... he is not part of a couple. Meeting Rowan was just what he needed. Now if only he could tell his heart not to crush on the new straight guy in town.

Short, but sweet. Loved it!

'I’d been hearing about my cousins’ accomplishments for my whole life, and I’d always felt just a bit lacking in comparison. Lawyers, doctors, engagements, kids— my mom was always so proud of them, when all I had to show for myself was more of the same old uneventful life.
But I also hated that it wasn’t the truth... but for one year— one of our annual Christmas parties— I wanted to have someone by my side.'

I really enjoyed this book. A fun fake relationship romance in time for Christmas. I loved both Rowen and Shane. They were really cute together and I love when feelings get involved. I also liked the supporting characters. A sweet romance. 4 stars.

Shane's only good at two things: sports and holiday spirit. But this Christmas feels different, even though he should have everything he wants. His family’s bugging him again about why he's still single, and he's getting desperate. Rowen’s nothing like him. He’s smart, accomplished, and back in Tennessee from the city, not by choice. Even though he’s straight, he agrees to be Shane's fake boyfriend for his family’s Christmas party.

This was a sweet Christmas story but I did struggle with the farce around whether to tell people about the fake relationship or admit their feelings for each other. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

I've read most of the books in this series and I thought it was a cute idea to set the novella in a different small town with a big fan of the Fixer Brothers show. Shane is a massive fan of the show and wants to be on the Couple Edition - but is not actually in a relationship. In steps Rowen, who has some baggage to deal with from his life in NYC, but who takes the role of BF very seriously and through their fake relationship end up falling for each other and having a Merry Christmas and a HEA. Super sweet read.
